Abstract
A novel Schiff base with imine/amine donors, 5-((3,3-diphenylalilidene)amino)pyrimidine-4-amine (L), and its new Platinum(II) and Ruthenium(II) complexes (I and II) were synthesized and characterized using FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectrometry and elemental analyses. The ability of these complexes to inhibit amyloid beta (Aβ1-42) aggregation was evaluated using the human neuroblastoma cell line (SH-SY5Y). The complexes effectively inhibited Aβ1-42 aggregation at a 1:1 M ratio. Both complexes increased cell viability up to 80 % at concentrations of 10 μM. At this concentration, the cell viability value found by Aβ1-42 aggregation is around 65 %. Aggregation kinetics were fluorometrically monitored using Thioflavin T. These findings were further supported by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. In addition, the interaction of the complexes with Aβ1-16 was investigated using MALDI-TOF/MS and 1H NMR spectroscopy. All findings showed that Aβ1-42 in both complexes is active in the inhibition of amyloid aggregation.

Abstract
To overcome the threat of corrosion and its cost, a new Schiff base was prepared and utilized to synthesize inorganic inhibitors to enhance corrosion resistance and reduce current density. The Schiff base was obtained from the interaction of cefotaxime with acetylacetone, while 1H NMR and IR spectra were used to confirm the preparation. Moreover, FeIII, CoII, NiII and CuII metal salts were reacted with the Schiff base to give the corresponding complexes. Meanwhile, the non-ionic behavior of the observed complexes in solutions was proved from the conductance results. In addition, the octahedral geometry and the postulated structure of complexes were determined from CHNM%, IR spectroscopy, UV-visible spectra, and TGA analysis. Also, the energy of molecular orbitals (HOMO and LUMO) and other quantum mechanics parameters were calculated using the DFT method. The observed results indicated the reactivity of metal complexes and their ability to donate electrons more than the Schiff base. Furthermore, the corrosion rate of a steel sample under various concentrations of inhibitors was calculated by a potentiodynamic polarization test. The obtained data displayed that metal complexes declined the corrosion rate more than the Schiff base; therefore, the binding between the metal ion and the Schiff base improved the inhibition efficiency.

Abstract
Schiff base ligand (L) was obtained by condensation reaction between 4-aminopyrimidin-2(1H)-one (cytosine) with 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde. The synthesized Schiff base was used for complexation with Cu(II) and Fe(II) ions used by a molar (2 : 1 mmol ration) in methanol solvent. The structural features of ligand, Cu(II), and Fe(II) metal complexes were determined by standard spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, elemental analysis, proton and carbon NMR spectra, UV/VIS, and mass spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility, thermal analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction). The synthesized compounds (Schiff base and its metal complexes) were screened in terms of their anti-proliferative activities in U118 and T98G human glioblastoma cell lines alone or in combination with electroporation (EP). Moreover, the human HDF (human dermal fibroblast) cell lines was used to check the bio-compatibility of the compounds. Anti-proliferative activities of all compounds were ascertained using an MTT assay. The complexes exhibited a good anti-proliferative effect on U118 and T98G glioblastoma cell lines. In addition, these compounds had a negligible cytotoxic effect on the fibroblast HDF cell lines. The use of compounds in combination with EP significantly decreased the IC50 values compared to the use of compounds alone (p<0.05). These results show that newly synthesized Cu(II) and Fe(II) complexes can be developed for use in the treatment of chemotherapy-resistant U118 and T98G glioblastoma cells and that treatment with lower doses can be provided when used in combination with EP.

Abstract
In this study, two novel binuclear Co(II) complexes, [Co4(L1)2(CH3CH2O)4·5.5H2O (1) and [Co2(L2)2(CH3COO)(H2O)]·2CH3OH·3H2O (2)], with the ligands H3L1 and H2L2 were synthesized and structurally characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structures of complex 1 and 2 belong to a monoclinic system with space group of P2(1)/n and triclinic system with space group of P-1, respectively. Their interaction with CT-DNA was investigated using electron absorption and fluorescent spectroscopy. The apparent binding constants (Kapp) of two complexes (1 and 2) were determined to be 5.34 × 105 and 5.82 × 105, respectively, and both exhibited a moderate intensity of insertion with 2 > 1. Fluorescence quenching studies indicated that the fluorescence quenching mechanism of complex 1 is dynamic quenching and that of complex 2 is a static quenching mechanism. The chemical nuclease activity of the complexes was studied using agarose gel electrophoresis. The results suggest that when H2O2 is added, complexes 1 and 2 exhibit chemical nuclease activity. The cleavage mechanisms between the complexes and plasmid DNA are the likely oxidative cleavage process of hydroxyl radical (OH) and singlet oxygen (1O2) as active species.
