Abstract
Objective: To assess changes in disease activity in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients on various disease-modifying-drugs, as well as immunogenicity, safety and clinical tolerability following combined tetanus- and diphtheria-vaccination. Methods: We conducted a prospective, multicentre, non-randomised real-world observational study at specialised outpatient MS care centres in Germany. We enrolled multiple sclerosis patients receiving a combined tetanus- and diphtheria-vaccination who had a stable MS-treatment regimen for at least six months and had an indication for this vaccination. Serum samples were obtained before and four weeks after vaccination for specific antibody response. Antibody concentrations against vaccine antigens were measured in duplicate via ELISA. Subjects were followed for one year after immunisation. MS disease activity (EDSS and relapse rates) was evaluated at follow-up visits. Local and systemic adverse events were registered four weeks after vaccination. Results: In total, 72 MS patients received tetanus and diphtheria vaccination. The annualised relapse rates in the year after vaccination were comparable to the year before vaccination (0.39 vs. 0.37). During the study period, the EDSS score did not change significantly. The score was 2.0 and 2.2 in the two years prior to vaccination and 2.5 in the year following vaccination. No subjects experienced severe adverse events. However, 14 (19.4%) had local adverse events, and 10 (13.9%) had systemic reactions. Following vaccination, all subjects had protective antibody titres against tetanus- and diphtheria-toxoid. Geometric mean antibody titres of tetanus toxoid antibodies increased from 0.64 IU/mL to 2.23 IU/mL (p < 0.0001) and of diphtheria toxoid antibodies from 0.1 IU/mL to 0.45 IU/mL (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Tetanus- and diphtheria vaccination proved to be safe and effective in MS patients in a real-world situation.

Abstract
Background Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS) with genetic and environmental factors playing a significant role in its development and progression. One of the most important genetic factors associated with MS is the HLA gene complex. The relationship between HLA and MS has been the subject of numerous studies, but no bibliometric analysis of this research has been reported to date. Therefore, this study aimed to provide a comprehensive overview of the publication output, citation impact, collaboration patterns, and research topics related to HLA and MS. Methods A bibliometric analysis of 488 studies published between 1988 and 2023 was conducted using RStudio, Tableau and VOSviewer software. Results The results indicated an increasing trend in the number of publications and citations over time, with the highest productivity and impact coming from researchers in the United States, Italy and Sweden. The analysis also revealed collaboration networks among researchers and institutions, with the most common research topics being the association of HLA alleles with MS susceptibility, disease course, and treatment response. This study's limitations stem from the inherent biases associated with bibliometric analysis, including database and coverage bias, citation bias, and biases related to accessibility and open access. Additionally, the exclusion of non-English language articles represents a further limitation. Conclusion Overall, this bibliometric analysis provides valuable insight into the research landscape of HLA and MS, highlighting the areas that have received the most attention and identifying potential avenues for future research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Multiple sclerosis is a common inflammatory neurological disease among young adults and is the tenth leading cause of the global burden of disease. Existing common treatments such as pharmacological and palliative therapies do not control the neurodegenerative process or cure multiple sclerosis. Numerous epidemiological surveys, randomised controlled trials, and systematic reviews with meta-analyses support the effects of physical activity on health-related outcomes among patients with multiple sclerosis. Moreover, bibliometric analysis can provide a broad evidence synthesis beyond systematic reviews and meta-analyses, allowing researchers and other stakeholders to obtain a one-stop overview of this research field. Therefore, this bibliometric analysis aims to provide insight into the knowledge structure of the field of physical activity for multiple sclerosis over the past three decades, and to predict emerging research trends. METHODS This study strictly complied with step-by-step guidelines of bibliometric analysis, combining performance analysis and science mapping. Four indexes from the Web of Science Core Collection were selected as data sources, and articles and review articles in the field of physical activity for multiple sclerosis from 1994 to 2023 were included in this analysis. Mircrosoft Excel, RStudio, VOSviewer 1.6.20, and CiteSpace 6.3.R1 (64-bit) Advanced were used to perform performance analysis and science mapping. RESULTS Over the past three decades, this field published a total of 1,271 documents, with the scientific output showing a rapid upward trend over the past two decades. Robbert W Motl was the most prolific author in this field, with a total of 300 publications. The USA contributed nearly half of the publications in this field (549 documents), and the University of Illinois System was the institution with the highest number of publications (222 documents). Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders was the journal that published the highest number of documents in this field (117 documents), while more than a third of this field's publications were included in the category: Clinical Neurology (438 documents). The Reference co-citation analysis identified three main research trends, including shifts in research methodology, changes in health outcomes in randomised controlled trials, and shifts in different types of physical activity interventions. Combining the results from reference co-citation analysis and citation burst analysis, the combination of behaviour change technique and telerehabilitation may be the emerging research trend. CONCLUSION This bibliometric analysis identifies rapid growth in the field of physical activity for multiple sclerosis over the past two decades. Moreover, the combination of performance analysis and science mapping provides insight into knowledge structure in this field and informed future research trends for researchers and the relevant stakeholders.

Abstract
AIM Determining patients' perceptions of multiple sclerosis, a disease with varying symptoms and prognosis for each individual, can significantly contribute to directing care and treatment. Metaphors may be an opportunity to determine perceptions of this unique illness experience. The aim of this study was to reveal the perceptions of patients with multiple sclerosis about "multiple sclerosis" through metaphors. METHODS This study was conducted with metaphor analysis technique based on phenomenological method. The sample included 184 patients with multiple sclerosis. Data was collected face-to-face between July 2022 and January 2023. Each participant was interviewed individually and was asked to fill in the blanks in the sentence, "multiple sclerosis is like… because…". Content analysis was performed for metaphors. RESULTS The study revealed five main themes and twelve subthemes that provided insight into the participants' multiple sclerosis perceptions. The themes address (i) Manipulator multiple sclerosis; ambiguous multiple sclerosis, attritive multiple sclerosis, controller multiple sclerosis, demander multiple sclerosis, and conditional multiple sclerosis (ii) Temporal multiple sclerosis; cyclical multiple sclerosis and perpetual multiple sclerosis (iii) Follower multiple sclerosis; unaccepted multiple sclerosis, partner multiple sclerosis and ambusher multiple sclerosis (iv) Different multiple sclerosis; bittersweet multiple sclerosis and unique multiple sclerosis (v) Restorative multiple sclerosis. CONCLUSION This study demonstrated that patients with multiple sclerosis mostly had negative perceptions regarding their relationship with multiple sclerosis. The results place a responsibility on healthcare professionals to improve how patients adapt to multiple sclerosis. This study's results can bridge theoretical knowledge and practice.

Abstract
Background Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a neuroautoimmune disease featured by the presence of antibodies targeting neuronal surface, synaptic, or intracellular antigens. An increasing number of articles on its clinical manifestations, treatments, and prognosis have appeared in recent years. The objectives of this study were to summarize this growing body of literature and provide an overview of hotspots and trends in AE research using bibliometric analysis. Methods We retrieved AE-related articles published between 1999 and 2022 from the Web of Science Core Collection. Using bibliometric websites and software, we analyzed the data of AE research, including details about countries, institutions, authors, references, journals, and keywords. Results We analyzed 3348 articles, with an average of 32.83 citations per article and an H-index of 141. The USA (1091, 32.587%), China (531, 15.860%), Germany (447, 13.351%), England (266, 7.945%), and Japan (213, 6.362%) had the greatest numbers of publications. The top five institutions by numbers of publications were Oxford (143, 4.271%), the Udice French Research Universities (135, 4.032%), the University of Pennsylvania (135, 4.032%), l'Institut National de la Sante de la Recherche Medicale Inserm (113, 3.375%), and the University of Barcelona (110, 3.286%). The most productive authors were J. Dalmau (98, 2.927%), A. Vincent (65, 2.479%), H. Pruess (64, 1.912%), C. G. Bien (43, 1.284%), and F. Graus (43, 1.284%). "autoimmune encephalitis" was the most frequently used keyword (430), followed by "antibodies" (420), "NMDA receptor encephalitis" (383), and "limbic encephalitis" (368). In recent years, research hotspots have focused on the diagnosis and immunotherapy of NMDAR encephalitis and on limbic encephalitis. Conclusion Developed Western countries have made significant contributions to this field. China has shown a steady increase in the number of publications in recent years, but the quality and influence of these articles warrant efforts at improvement. Future directions in AE research lie in two key areas: (i) the clinical manifestations, prevalence, and prognosis of AE (enabled by advances in diagnosis); and (ii) the efficacy and safety of targeted, individualized immunotherapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common global condition with high morbidity and mortality rates. Biomarkers can aid in the diagnosis, prediction, intervention, and outcome assessment of AKI. This study aimed to summarize the current research status and identify research hotspots for AKI biomarkers using bibliometric analysis. METHODS Relevant original English language articles were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection database, from inception to 31 December 2022. Full records and related cited references from all the documents were collected and analyzed. RESULTS A total of 16368 authors from 3379 institutions in 83 countries/regions contributed to 2916 documents that were published in 712 academic journals. Annual publication output followed exponential growth since 2008. The United States, the University of Pittsburgh, and the American Journal of Physiology-Renal Physiology were the most productive countries, institutions, and journals in terms of research outputs, respectively. The area of interest has shifted from neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin, cell cycle, and tubular damage toward sepsis and COVID-19. Apoptosis, inflammation, and chronic kidney disease have become popular in recent years, and studies on ferroptosis, machine learning, COVID-19, and renal fibrosis will be the focus of future research. IMPLICATIONS This bibliometric study suggests that future research on AKI biomarkers would focus on ferroptosis, renal fibrosis and COVID-19. Artificial intelligence, such as machine learning, maybe the most promising direction for the discovery and validation of AKI biomarkers.

Abstract
Purpose This study aims to analyze global and regional (China, Japan, and South Korea) research on virtual reality (VR) in the field of pain medicine over the past 30 years. Specifically, we quantify VR-related publications, examine the distribution of research topics on chronic and acute pain, and identify trends and future directions. Methods The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was used for bibliometric analysis. This study included articles written in English between 1993 and 2022. The search strategy used predefined terms related to VR and pain. Based on the articles' titles and abstracts, two pain physicians independently reviewed and classified them as acute or chronic pain. Quantitative data on countries, institutions, journals, and research categories were analyzed. VOSviewer software was used for keyword mapping and clustering. Results We analyzed 808 VR-related articles on pain medicine. Over the past three decades, the number of publications in this field has increased steadily. The United States of America (n = 259) had the highest number of publications. Moreover, China (n = 42), Japan (n = 18), and South Korea (n = 24) also contributed continuously. Acute and chronic pain research accounted for 44.2% and 37.9% of the articles, respectively. The most common acute pain topic was procedure-related (n = 129, 16.0%), whereas the most common chronic pain topic was neuropathic (n = 104, 12.9%). Keywords clustered around neuroscience, pediatric pain management, and chronic pain management. Conclusion Our study revealed academic achievements and growing interest in VR-related research in pain medicine. Researchers worldwide have shown balanced interest in applying VR technology to acute and chronic pain, with specific contributions from China, Japan, and South Korea. Harnessing VR technology is promising for improving pain management and enhancing patients' quality of life in the field of pain medicine.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to perform a descriptive analysis of scientific articles about primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) using bibliometric approaches. By analyzing the links between the various research components (authors, journals, institutions, countries) of the academic outputs, it was aimed to summarize the intellectual structure of PHPT, identify recent research trends, and determine the global productivity. Three thousand nine hundred fifty-four articles on PHPT published between 1980 and 2022 were pulled from the Web of Science database and analyzed using bibliometric approaches. Bibliometric network visualization maps were used to identify trending topics, citation analysis, and international collaborations. Spearman correlation coefficient was used for correlation analysis. The 3 most prolific authors are Bilezikian JP. (n = 87), Silverberg SJ. (n = 72) and Akerstrom G. (n = 57). The top 3 most productive institutions were Columbia University (n = 133), Udice French Research Universities (n = 127) and Uppsala University (n = 98). The top 3 most productive journals were Surgery (n = 216), Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism (n = 201) and World Journal of Surgery (n = 148). The top 3 contributing countries to the PHPT literature were United States of America (n = 1062, 26.8%), Italy (346, 8.7%) and United Kingdom (274, 6.9%). The most studied topics from past to present are parathyroidectomy, hypercalcemia, parathyroid hormone/adenoma/glands, calcium/calcimimetics, scintigraphy/sestamibi, bone mineral density, ultrasound, vitamin D, osteoporosis, minimally invasive parathyroidectomy, brown tumor, nephrocalcinosis/nephrolithiasis, multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1, normocalcemia, pregnancy, imaging/preoperative imaging, parathyroid cancer/carcinoma, asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism, and cinacalcet. The trending topics in recent years were normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism, trabecular bone score, children, CDC73, microwave ablation, radiofrequency ablation, denosumab, cinacalcet, preoperative imaging, imaging, diagnosis, CT, PET, PET/CT, 4D/CT, SPECT/CT, F-18-fluorocholine, quality of life, fractures, and metabolic syndrome. We can say that there will be an increasing research trend on PHPT in the coming years. In addition to the Western countries such as the United States and European countries with large economies, Japan and Turkey were also identified as leading countries in the development of the PHPT literature. This study provides significant information about the intellectual structure and global productivity of PHPT to clinicians and other researchers interested on PHPT.

Abstract
Fractures of the acetabulum are one of the most challenging injuries treated by orthopedic surgeons. However, a bibliometric analysis has not been performed in the literature on acetabular fractures, which seriously affect the quality of life of patients. The aim of this study was to summarize the bibliometric and intellectual structure, and determine and map the most recent trends on the topic of acetabular fractures by analyzing the social and structural relationships between the different research components of articles published on the acetabular fractures. 1599 articles on acetabular fractures published between 1980 and 2022 were extracted from the Web of Science (WoS) database and analyzed. Bibliometric visualization maps were used to reveal trending topics, citation analyses, and international collaborations. Spearman correlation analysis was performed for correlation investigations. The trend in the expected number of articles to be published over the next few years was displayed using the exponential smoothing estimator. The top 3 contributing countries to the literature were United States of America (USA) (551, 34.4%), China (170, 10.6%), and Germany (160, 10%). The most active author was Berton R. Moed (n = 29) and the most active institution was the University of California System (n = 41). A high-level statistically significant correlation was found between the number of articles on the topic of acetabular fractures published by nations and the gross domestic product (GDP) and GDP per capita values of those countries (R = 0.719, P < .001; R = 0.701, P < .001, respectively). The trending topics researched in recent years were 3D printing, 3-dimensional printing, outcomes, Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF), mortality, Kocher-Langenbeck, Pararectus approach, tranexamic acid, transfusion, epidemiology, fracture mapping, modified Stoppa approach, post-traumatic osteoarthritis, pelvis fracture, pelvic trauma, fracture reduction, and pelvic ring injury. The leading countries in research on the subject of acetabular fractures were seen to be western countries with large economies (especially the USA, European countries, and Canada) and China, India and Turkey.

Abstract
Background Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major public health concern with far-reaching consequences on individuals' lives. Despite the abundance of works published on TBI rehabilitation, few studies have bibliometrically analyzed the published TBI rehabilitation research. This study aims to characterize current international trends and global productivity by analyzing articles on TBI rehabilitation using bibliometric approaches and visualization methods. Methods We conducted a bibliometric analysis of data retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection database to examine the evolution and thematic trends in TBI rehabilitation research up until December 31, 2022. The specific characteristics of the research articles on TBI rehabilitation were evaluated, such as publication year, countries/regions, institutions, authors, journals, research fields, references, and keywords. Results Our analysis identified 5,541 research articles on TBI rehabilitation and observed a progressive increase in publications and citations over the years. The United States (US, 2,833, 51.13%), Australia (727, 13.12%), and Canada (525, 9.47%) were the most prolific countries/regions. The University of Washington (226, 4.08%) and Hammond FM (114, 2.06%) were the most productive institution and author, respectively. The top three productive journals were Brain Injury (862; 15.56%), Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (630; 11.37%), and Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation (405, 7.31%). The most frequent research fields were Rehabilitation, Neurosciences, and Clinical Neurology. Co-citation references primarily addressed "outcome assessment," "community integration" and "TBI management," and "injury chronicity" and "sequelae" have gained more attention in recent years. "Mild TBI," "outcome," "stroke" and "children" were the commonly used keywords. Additionally, the analysis unveiled emerging research frontiers, including "return to work," "disorder of consciousness," "veterans," "mild TBI," "pediatric," "executive function" and "acquired brain injury." Conclusion This study provides valuable insights into the current state of TBI rehabilitation research, which has experienced a rapid increase in attention and exponential growth in publications and citations in the last three decades. TBI rehabilitation research is characterized by its multi-disciplinary approach, involving fields such as Rehabilitation, Neurosciences, and Clinical Neurology. The analysis revealed emerging research subjects that could inform future research directions.

Abstract
Post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN) is one of the most painful diseases, which has made it a major concern for pain physicians. We aimed to quantitatively analyze the research outputs of studies on PHN published over the past 30 years using bibliometric analysis. We also aimed to analyze the research outputs of studies on interventional treatments for PHN and evaluate the academic achievements of Korean pain physicians. Bibliometric analysis was performed by searching the Web of Science database for PHN-related articles published between 1991 and 2020. Publication number, year, source, country, institution, and citation-related information were retrieved from the database. We also quantitatively analyzed publications related to interventional treatments for PHN. A total of 3285 publications were extracted from the database; 101 (3.1%) of the articles were published by South Korean authors, making South Korea the 11th in the order of countries that published the most articles. There were 185 articles on the effects of interventional treatments for PHN. South Korean authors published 30 (16.2%) articles out of these, making South Korea the 3rd in the order of countries that published the most articles on the effects of interventional treatment for PHN. Our results showed an increasing trend in the number of PHN-related publications and the academic achievements of Korean pain physicians in this field over the past 3 decades. However, the proportion of studies on interventional treatments is relatively small. Korean pain physicians need to establish academic evidence on interventional treatment to expand their role in this field and improve the outcomes of PHN patients.
