The energetic and physical concept of gold nanorod-dependent fluorescence in cancer treatment and development of new photonic compounds|review

The optical features of gold nanorods (GNR) may be precisely controlled by manipulating their size, shape, and aspect ratio. This review explores the impact of these parameters on the optical tuning of (GNR). By altering the experimental conditions, like the addition of silver ions during the seed-mediated growth process, the aspect ratio of (GNR) may be regulated. The shape is trans from spherical to rod-like structures resulting in noticeable changes in the nanoparticles surface plasmons resonance (SPR) bands. The longitudinal SPR band, associated with electron oscillations along the long axis, exhibits a pronounced red shift into the (NIR) region as the aspect ratio increases. In contrast, the transverse SPR band remains relate unchanged. Using computational methods like the discrete dipole approximation (DDA) allows for analyzing absorption, scattering, and total extinction features of gold (G) nanoparticles. Studies have shown that increasing the aspect ratio enhances the scattering efficiency, indicating a higher scattering quantum yield (QY). These findings highlight the importance of size, shape, and aspect ratio in controlling the optical features of (GNR) providing valuable insights for various uses in nanophotonics and plasmonic-dependent fluorescence in cancer treatment and developing new photonic compound NRs.

Paper Sensor Modified with MoS2 for Detection of Dopamine Using a Machine-Intelligent Web App Interface

The sensing behavior of a MoS2-functionalized paper sensor towards dopamine was explored through a combinatorial approach of theoretical analysis, subsequent experimental validation, and machine-learning-driven predictive modeling of the measured electrochemical outputs. The suitability of the chosen 2D material for efficient detection of dopamine was confirmed using density functional theory. The physisorption behavior along with electrostatic interaction due to the incorporation of dopamine on MoS2 was unraveled under the purview of theoretically estimated noncovalent interaction and charge density difference plot. The theoretical Löwdin population analysis elucidates the alteration in oxidation potential of dopamine, as observed in electrochemical experiments. The electrochemical responses of the developed sensor with the spiked serum samples showed an average accuracy of more than 96% with a limit of detection of 10 nM. Furthermore, implementation of a machine-intelligent interactive web app interface improved the resolution of the sensing platform significantly with an enhanced accuracy of nearly 99%.

Sensitive detection of noradrenaline in human whole blood based on Au nanoparticles embedded vertically-ordered silica nanochannels modified pre-activated glassy carbon electrodes

Sensitive determination of noradrenaline (NE), the pain-related neurotransmitters and hormone, in complex whole blood is of great significance. In this work, an electrochemical sensor was simply constructed on the pre-activated glassy carbon electrode (p-GCE) modified with vertically-ordered silica nanochannels thin film bearing amine groups (NH₂-VMSF) and in-situ deposited Au nanoparticles (AuNPs). The simple and green electrochemical polarization was employed to pre-activate GCE to realize the stable binding of NH₂-VMSF on the surface of electrode without the use of any adhesive layer. NH₂-VMSF was conveniently and rapidly grown on p-GCE by electrochemically assisted self-assembly (EASA). With amine group as the anchor sites, AuNPs were in-situ electrochemically deposited on the nanochannels to improve the electrochemical signals of NE. Owing to signal amplification from gold nanoparticles, the fabricated AuNPs@NH₂-VMSF/p-GCE sensor can achieve electrochemical detection of NE ranged from 50 nM to 2 μM and from 2 μM to 50 μM with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 10 nM. The constructed sensor exhibited high selectivity and can be easily regenerated and reused. Owing to the anti-fouling ability of nanochannel array, direct electroanalysis of NE in human whole blood was also realized.

Effect of TX-100 pretreatment on carbon paste electrode for selective sensing of dopamine in presence of paracetamol

Dopamine (DA) is one of the chief neurotransmitters present in the central nervous system of mammals. Therefore detection of DA in presence of various analytes like paracetamol has great importance. In the current work, we are proposing that Triton X-100 (TX-100) pretreated carbon paste electrode (CPE) can be useful to detect the DA selectively in presence of PA. After the pretreatment CPE can detect DA in presence of PA effectively. Cyclic voltammetry was employed to observe the amplified electron transfer reaction between the modified CPE and DA. To understand electron transfer regioselectivity at the TX-100 pretreated CPE, a dual descriptor was used. The prepared electrode showed satisfactory stability when kept under ambient conditions. The proposed approach also showed excellent analytical applicability to identify DA and PA in commercial formulations. The scope of the work is limited to detecting DA in presence of PA. We will consider the other interferes for future works.

Point-of-care biochemical assays using electrochemical technologies: approaches, applications, and opportunities

Against the backdrop of hidden symptoms of diseases and limited medical resources of their investigation, in vitro diagnosis has become a popular mode of real-time healthcare monitoring. Electrochemical biosensors have considerable potential for use in wearable products since they can consistently monitor the physiological information of the patient. This review classifies and briefly compares commonly available electrochemical biosensors and the techniques of detection used. Following this, the authors focus on recent studies and applications of various types of sensors based on a variety of methods to detect common compounds and cancer biomarkers in humans. The primary gaps in research are discussed and strategies for improvement are proposed along the dimensions of hardware and software. The work here provides new guidelines for advanced research on and a wider scope of applications of electrochemical biosensors to in vitro diagnosis.

A high-performance electrochemical sensor based on a mesoporous silica/titania material and cobalt(II) phthalocyanine for sensitive pentachlorophenol determination

The synthesis and characterization of a novel titania/silica hybrid xerogel subsequently modified with 4-methylpyridine (4-Pic), named TiSi4Pic⁺Cl^- is reported. The physicochemical, structural and thermal properties of TiSi4Pic⁺Cl^- were characterized using several techniques. Anchoring cobalt(II) phthalocyanine (CoTsPc) in TiSi4Pic⁺Cl^- showed greater electroanalytical sensitivity over other sensors built with these materials. A novel electroanalytical method was developed to quantify the noxious biocide pentachlorophenol (PCP) for environmental monitoring. The peak current intensity increased linearly with the analyte concentration in the range between 0.99 and 4.21 μmol L^-1, based on the oxidation process (at + 0.81 V, vs. Ag/AgCl) of differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The estimated limit of detection (LOD) was 29 nmol L^-1. Recovery tests in environmental samples showed a PCP concentration of 2.05 ± 0.03 μmol L^-1 (n = 3). The method was statistically validated by comparing the PCP concentrations with those obtained by molecular absorption spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection (HPLC-DAD). At a 95% confidence level, no difference between the results was found, therefore confirming the excellent accuracy of the proposed method.

Fabrication of ionic liquid stabilized MXene interface for electrochemical dopamine detection

Development of MXene (Ti3C2Cl2)-based sensing platforms by exploiting their inherent active electrochemistry is highly challenging due to their characteristic poor stability in air and water. Herein, we report a cost-effective methodology to deposit MXene on a conductive graphitic pencil electrode (GPE). MXenes can provide active surface area due to their clever morphology of accordion-like sheets; however, the disposition to stack together limits their potential applications. A task-specific ionic liquid (1-methyl imidazolium acetate) is utilized as a multiplex host material to engineer MXene interface via π-π interactions as well as to act as a selective binding site for biomolecules. The resulting IL-MXene/GPE interface proved to be a highly stable interface owing to good interactions between MXene and IL that inhibited electrode leaching and boosted electron transfer at the electrode-electrolyte interface. It resulted in robust dopamine (DA) oxidation with amplified faradaic response and enhanced sensitivity (9.61 µA µM-1 cm-2) for DA detection. This fabricated sensor demonstrated large linear range (10 µM - 2000 µM), low detection limit (702 nM), high reproducibility, and good selectivity. We anticipate that such platform will pave the way for the development of stable and economically viable MXene-based sensors without sacrificing their inherent properties. Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins: Implications for Nanotechnological Applications in Biosensing and Drug/Gene Delivery

Over various scientific fields in biochemistry, amino acids have been highlighted in research works. Protein, peptide- and amino acid-based drug delivery systems have proficiently transformed nanotechnology via immense flexibility in their features for attaching various drug molecules and biodegradable polymers. In this regard, novel nanostructures including carbon nanotubes, electrospun carbon nanofibers, gold nanoislands, and metal-based nanoparticles have been introduced as nanosensors for accurate detection of these organic compounds. These nanostructures can bind the biological receptor to the sensor surface and increase the surface area of the working electrode, significantly enhancing the biosensor performance. Interestingly, protein-based nanocarriers have also emerged as useful drug and gene delivery platforms. This is important since, despite recent advancements, there are still biological barriers and other obstacles limiting gene and drug delivery efficacy. Currently available strategies for gene therapy are not cost-effective, and they do not deliver the genetic cargo effectively to target sites. With rapid advancements in nanotechnology, novel gene delivery systems are introduced as nonviral vectors such as protein, peptide, and amino acid-based nanostructures. These nano-based delivery platforms can be tailored into functional transformation using proteins and peptides ligands based nanocarriers, usually overexpressed in the specified diseases. The purpose of this review is to shed light on traditional and nanotechnology-based methods to detect amino acids, peptides, and proteins. Furthermore, new insights into the potential of amino protein-based nanoassemblies for targeted drug delivery or gene transfer are presented.

Actualities in immunological markers and electrochemical sensors for determination of dopamine and its metabolites in psychotic disorders (Review)

Psychotic disorders represent a serious health concern. At this moment, anamnestic data, international criteria for diagnosis/classification from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 and the International Classification of Diseases-10 and diagnostic scales are used to establish a diagnosis. The most commonly used biomarkers in psychotic illnesses are those regarding the neuroimmune system, metabolic abnormalities, neurotrophins and neurotransmitter systems and proteomics. A current issue faced by clinicians is the lack of biomarkers to help develop a more accurate diagnosis, with the possibility of initiating the most effective treatment. The detection of biological markers for psychosis has the potential to contribute to improvements in its diagnosis, prognosis and treatment effectiveness. The mixture of multiple biomarkers may improve the ability to differentiate and classify these patients. In this sense, the aim of this study was to analyze the literature concerning the potential biomarkers that could be used in medical practice and to review the newest developments in electrochemical sensors used for dopamine detection, one of the most important exploited biomarkers.

Tailoring Mesoporous Titania Features by Ultrasound-Assisted Sol-Gel Technique: Effect of Surfactant/Titania Precursor Weight Ratio

A mesoporous titania structure has been prepared using the ultrasound-assisted sol-gel technique in order to find out a way to tailor its structure. The TiO₂ obtained was compared to the same version of titania but synthesized by a conventional sol-gel method with the objective of understanding the effect of ultrasound in the synthesis process. All synthesis experiments were focused on the preparation of a titania photocatalyst. Thus, the anatase photocatalytic active phase of titania was proven by X-ray diffraction. Additionally, the ultrasonation treatment proved to increase the crystallinity of titania samples, being one of the requirements to having good photocatalytic activity for titania. The influence of surfactant/titania precursor weight ratio on the structural (XRD), textural (N₂-sorption measurements), morphological (TEM), surface chemistry (FTIR) and optical properties (UVDR) was investigated. It was observed that the crystallite size, specific surface area, band gap energy and even photocatalytic activity was affected by the synergism occurring between cavitation effect and the surfactant/titania precursor weight ratio. The study yielded interesting great results that could be considered for further application of ultrasound to tailor mesoporous titania features via sol-gel soft template synthesis, against conventional sol-gel process.
