Abstract
BACKGROUND The Glasgow coma score (GCS) is a clinical tool used to measure level of consciousness in traumatic brain injury and other settings. Despite its widespread use, there are many inaccuracies in its reporting. One source of inaccuracy is confounding factors which affect consciousness as well as each sub-score of the GCS. The purpose of this article was to create a comprehensive list of confounding factors in order to improve the accuracy of the GCS and ultimately improve decision-making. METHODS An English language literature search was conducted discussing GCS and multiple other keywords. Ultimately, 64 out of 3972 articles were included for further analysis. RESULTS A multitude of confounding factors were identified which may affect consciousness or GCS sub-scores including the eye exam, motor exam and the verbal response. CONCLUSIONS An up-to-date comprehensive list of confounding factors has been created that may be used to aide in GCS recording in hopes of improving its accuracy and utility.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the prevalence of neuropsychiatric sequelae following traumatic brain injury (TBI) among the Western Asian, South Asian and African regions of the global south. All studies on psychiatric disturbances or cognitive impairment following TBI conducted (until August 2021) in the 83 countries that constitute the aforementioned regions were reviewed; 6 databases were selected for the literature search. After evaluating the articles using the Joanna Briggs Institute guidelines, the random effects model was used to estimate the prevalence of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), TBI-related sleep disturbance (TBI-SD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and cognitive impairment. Of 56 non-duplicated studies identified in the initial search, 27 were eligible for systematic review and 23 for meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of depression in 1,882 samples was 35.35%, that of anxiety in 1,211 samples was 28.64%, that of PTSD in 426 samples was 19.94%, that of OCD in 313 samples was 19.48%, that of TBI-SD in 562 samples was 26.67% and that of cognitive impairment in 941 samples was 49.10%. To date, this is the first critical review to examine the spectrum of post-TBI neuropsychiatric sequelae in the specified regions. Although existing studies lack homogeneous data due to variability in the diagnostic tools and outcome measures utilised, the reported prevalence rates are significant and comparable to statistics from the global north.

Abstract
This brief report discusses the relationship between verbal function, disorders of consciousness, and neurological follow-up after acute brain injury. It provides valuable insights for improving the accuracy and reliability of Verbal Glasgow Coma Scale scoring in clinical practice. The report addresses the need for standardized training and underlines the importance of physiological stabilization before assessment. Clarity in communication, recognition of non-verbal cues, and serial assessments are emphasized as critical factors to reduce the Verbal Glasgow Coma Scale inconsistencies. It also promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and cultural sensitivity to refine the Verbal Glasgow Coma Scale evaluation, improving the prediction of long-term neurological outcomes after acute brain injury and optimizing effective rehabilitation programs. Possible strategies to implement in the routine clinical practice the provided tips are discussed.

Abstract
This study aims to assess the relationship between computed tomography (CT) findings, during the acute phase of hospitalization, and long-term language impairment in people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Another aim was to assess the receptive and expressive abilities of subjects with TBI based on the location of the injury. This is a retrospective observational study including 49 participants with TBI due to war injuries. The Arabic Diagnostic Aphasia Battery (A-DAB-1) was administered to the participants and the Helsinki CT score was computed to quantify brain damage. The results showed that the Helsinki CT score was negatively correlated with the total score of the A-DAB-1 (r = -0.544, p-value < 0.0001). Simple linear regression supported such findings and reflected an inversely proportional relationship between both variables (p-value < 0.0001). When compared with subjects having right hemisphere damage, subjects with left hemisphere and bilateral brain damage performed more poorly on language tasks respectively as follows: A-DAB-1 overall score (92.08-66.08-70.28, p-value = 0.021), Content of descriptive speech (9.57-6.69-7.22, p-value = 0.034), Verbal fluency (6.57-3.54-3.89, p-value = 0.002), Auditory comprehension (9.71-7.54-7.78, p-value = 0.039), Complex auditory commands (9.71-7.65-7.56, p-value = 0.043), Repetition (9.75-7.08-7.61, p-value = 0.036), Naming (9.93-7.15-8.11, p-value = 0.046). Following TBI, CT findings on admission can significantly predict long-term language abilities, with left side lesions inducing poorer outcomes.

Abstract
This study has investigated the potency and accuracy of early magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) to predict post-concussion syndrome (PCS) in adult patients with a single mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) without abnormality on a routine brain scan. A total of 48 eligible mTBI patients and 24 volunteers in the control group participated in this project. Brain MRS over regions of interest (ROI) and signal stop task (SST) were done within the first 72 hours of TBI onset. After six months, PCS appearance and severity were determined. In non-PCS patients, N-acetyl aspartate (NAA) levels significantly increased in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) relative to the control group, however, this increase of NAA levels were recorded in all ROI versus PCS subjects. There were dramatic declines in creatinine (Cr) levels of all ROI and a decrease in choline levels of corpus callosum (CC) in the PCS group versus control and non-PCS ones. NAA and NAA/Cho values in ACC were the main predictors of PCS appearance. The Cho/Cr level in ACC was the first predictor of PCS severity. Predicting accuracy was higher in ACC than in other regions. This study suggested the significance of neuro-markers in ACC for optimal prediction of PCS and rendered a new insight into the biological mechanism of mTBI that underpins PCS.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Insomnia is a serious problem after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and partially improves via sleeping pills. We investigated the efficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with a focus on the role of age and gender. MATERIALS AND METHODS In a randomized double-blind clinical trial, 60 eligible TBI-induced insomnia patients were assigned to real and sham tDCS groups and were treated for three weeks. Sham but not real tDCS took sleeping pills for the first three weeks of the study and then used the placebo until the end of the study. The placebo was used by the real-tDCS group throughout the study. Sleep quality and insomnia severity were respectively evaluated by Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) at three time points. RESULTS Real tDCS group reported lower mean ISI and PSQI scores at 3 weeks post treatment onset and maintained this decline for six weeks post treatment onset (P < 0.001). In younger participants and those identified as men, the treatment-induced attenuation of the mean PSQI score was reported higher and more lasting in real than sham tDCS groups. CONCLUSION Gender and age-specific tDCS protocols may be warranted to optimize the therapeutic effect of tDCS.

Abstract
Although several studies have documented the chronic phase of traumatic brain injury (TBI), few verified the nature and severity of cognitive impairments during the acute phase. Among the studies carried out during the acute phase, instrumental functions were rarely examined compared to attention, memory, and executive functions. This study aimed to compare the nature and intensity of cognitive problems in the acute phase according to TBI severity and age. It was hypothesized that cognitive impairments would increase in line with TBI severity and age, and that instrumental functions would be less affected in victims of mild or moderate TBI than in those with severe TBI. The Brief Cognitive Exam in Traumatology (EXACT), a new and reliable test specifically designed and validated to briefly assess global cognitive functioning during the acute phase, was administered to 319 mild to severe TBI victims (aged 16 to 96 years), within three months post-accident. The EXACT evaluates five domains: Language, Instrumental functions (other than language), Attention and working memory, Episodic memory, and Executive functions and behavioral regulation. Results confirmed the negative influence of TBI severity and age on global cognitive functioning. Also, compared to victims with a mild or moderate TBI, a higher proportion of those with a severe TBI presented impaired instrumental functions (calculation, praxis, and gnosis). Thus, during the acute phase, the nature and severity of cognitive impairments vary according to TBI severity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although previous research studies have defined several prognostic factors that affect cognitive-communication performance in patients with all traumatic brain injury (TBI) severity, little is known about what variables are associated with cognitive-communication impairment in complicated mild TBI (mTBI) specifically. AIMS To determine which demographic and trauma-related factors are associated with cognitive-communication performance in the early recovery phase of acute care following a complicated mTBI. METHODS & PROCEDURES Demographic and accident-related data as well as the scores on cognitive-communication skill measures in the areas of auditory comprehension (complex ideational material subtest of the Boston Diagnostic Aphasia Examination), verbal reasoning (verbal absurdities subtest of the Detroit Test of Learning Aptitude), confrontation naming (short form of the Boston Naming Test), verbal fluency (semantic category and letter category naming), and conversational discourse (conversational checklist of the Protocole Montréal d'évaluation de la communication) were retrospectively collected from the medical records of 128 patients with complicated mTBI admitted to a tertiary care trauma hospital. Multiple linear regressions analyses were carried out on the variables sex, age, education level, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, lesion site and bilingualism. OUTCOMES & RESULTS Females performed better than males on letter-category naming, while those more advanced in age performed worse on most cognitive-communication measures. Patients with higher education achieved better confrontation and letter-category naming, whereas reading comprehension results were worse with a lower GCS score. Bilingual individuals presented more difficulty in conversational discourse skills than those who spoke only one language. In terms of site of lesion, the presence of a right frontal injury was associated with worse auditory and reading comprehension and an occipital lesion was related to worse confrontation naming. CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS Cognitive-communication skills should be evaluated early in all patients with complicated mTBI, but especially in those who are advanced in age, those with fewer years of education and those who present with lower GCS scores, in order to determine rehabilitation needs. The findings of this study will allow acute care clinicians to better understand how various demographic and injury-related factors affect cognitive-communication skills after complicated mTBI and to better nuance the interpretation of their evaluation results in order to improve clinical care. Further study is required regarding the influence of lesion location, sex and bilingualism following complicated mTBI. What this paper adds What is already known on the subject In early acute recovery studies including all severity of TBI, cognitive-communication performance was poorer in individuals with more advanced age, those with fewer years of education and with more severe TBI. It is not yet known which demographic and injury-related variables predict cognitive-communication performance after a complicated mTBI specifically. What this paper adds to existing knowledge We confirmed that age, level of education and TBI severity, as measured with the GCS score, were associated with some areas of cognitive-communication performance for a group of patients in the acute stage of recovery from a complicated mTBI. We also identified that sex, bilingualism and site of lesion were new variables that show an influence on aspects of cognitive-communication skills in this group of patients. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work? The findings of this study on prognostic factors in the case of complicated mTBI will help acute care clinicians to better understand evaluation results knowing the variables that can influence cognitive-communication performance and to nuance the interpretation of these results with the goal of determining rehabilitation needs and enhancing clinical care.

Abstract
PURPOSE Several studies have investigated cognitive-communication disorders affecting oral expression skills following TBI but very few have dealt with reading comprehension abilities. The current study aims to measure reading comprehension and speed of reading in adults with uncomplicated and complicated mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to determine which demographic and TBI-related variables are predictive of their performance. METHOD The performances of three groups of participants were compared on the Chapman-Cook Speed of Reading Test (CCSRT). The CCSRT was administered in an acute care setting to 85 hospitalized participants with mild TBI showing traumatic cerebral lesions (complicated mild TBI), to 15 hospitalized participants with uncomplicated mild TBI (no cerebral lesions) and to 68 adults without TBI. Linear regression analyses were performed to determine which variables among sex, age, education, TBI severity (measured by the Glasgow Coma Scale score), speed of processing skills, and site of cerebral lesions significantly predicted CCSRT performances. RESULTS The control group showed a lower percentage of errors than both TBI groups. On the total score of the CCSRT, the uncomplicated and complicated TBI groups performed worse than the control group. Moreover, as age and speed of processing skills increased, and education decreased, the odds of having a lower score on the CCSRT increased. CONCLUSION These findings suggest that reading abilities are compromised after mild TBI. Furthermore, the CCSRT may be a useful bedside tool for clinicians who work with individuals with mild TBI.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study is to assess the association between the Computed Tomography (CT) findings on admission, according to the Helsinki computed tomography CT score, and patient's Quality of Life (QoL) following traumatic brain injury (TBI) in Lebanon. METHODS A retrospective study was performed on 49 males suffering from war induced TBI. Participants were stratified into two groups based on the date of injury. Helsinki CT score was calculated for CT scans of participants. Outcomes were assessed using QoL scales including the Project for the Epidemiological Analysis of Critical Care Patients scale (PAEEC). RESULTS Correlation analysis showed that QoL, up to 4 years post-TBI, was significantly associated with Helsinki CT classification. Group 1 of subjects living with TBI for 1-2 years revealed a correlation coefficient r = 0.536, p-value = 0.027, whereas, group 2 including subjects who are injured since 3-4 years, had a correlation coefficient r = 0.565, p-value = 0.001. CONCLUSION The present study showed that patients with traumatic brain injury experienced significant quality of life deterioration up to 4 years post-TBI. Our findings propose the important role of Helsinki score in predicting the quality of life among patients with TBI.

Abstract
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be serious partly due to the challenges of assessing and treating its neurocognitive and affective sequelae. The effects of a single TBI may persist for years and can limit patients’ activities due to somatic complaints (headaches, vertigo, sleep disturbances, nausea, light or sound sensitivity), affective sequelae (post-traumatic depressive symptoms, anxiety, irritability, emotional instability) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI, including social cognition disturbances, attention deficits, information processing speed decreases, memory degradation and executive dysfunction). Despite a growing amount of research, study comparison and knowledge synthesis in this field are problematic due to TBI heterogeneity and factors like injury mechanism, age at or time since injury. The relative lack of standardization in neuropsychological assessment strategies for quantifying sequelae adds to these challenges, and the proper administration of neuropsychological testing relative to the relationship between TBI, MCI and neuroimaging has not been reviewed satisfactorily. Social cognition impairments after TBI (e.g., disturbed emotion recognition, theory of mind impairment, altered self-awareness) and their neuroimaging correlates have not been explored thoroughly. This review consolidates recent findings on the cognitive and affective consequences of TBI in relation to neuropsychological testing strategies, to neurobiological and neuroimaging correlates, and to patient age at and assessment time after injury. All cognitive domains recognized by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) are reviewed, including social cognition, complex attention, learning and memory, executive function, language and perceptual-motor function. Affect and effort are additionally discussed owing to their relationships to cognition and to their potentially confounding effects. Our findings highlight non-negligible cognitive and affective impairments following TBI, their gravity often increasing with injury severity. Future research should study (A) language, executive and perceptual-motor function (whose evolution post-TBI remains under-explored), (B) the effects of age at and time since injury, and (C) cognitive impairment severity as a function of injury severity. Such efforts should aim to develop and standardize batteries for cognitive subdomains—rather than only domains—with high ecological validity. Additionally, they should utilize multivariate techniques like factor analysis and related methods to clarify which cognitive subdomains or components are indeed measured by standardized tests.

Abstract
Purpose The aim of this study was to characterize language comprehension in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) by testing a speed-based hypothesis. We hypothesized that adults with mTBI would perform worse than a group of adults with orthopedic injuries (OIs) on an experimental language comprehension task. Method The study employed a prospective experimental design. Participants were 19 adults with mTBI and 19 adults with OI ages 18-55 years. Participants completed the Whatdunit task, a sentence agent selection task in speeded and unspeeded conditions. Results In the unspeeded condition, the mTBI group performed with a marginally significant higher accuracy than the OI group. In the speeded condition, the mTBI group performed with lower accuracy than the OI group; however, this difference did not reach statistical significance. There was a marginally significant interaction of Sentence Type × Group for reaction time in the speeded condition. Conclusions While our task might have been sensitive to cognitive processing abilities in both groups (as evidenced by the main effects of condition and sentence type), the task was not specific enough to capture mTBI-related deficits. The similarities in performance between both groups have clinical implications for the treatment of not just brain-related trauma but also trauma in general.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The Montreal Cognitive Assessement (MoCA) is a brief and standardized cognitive screening tool that has been used with several clinical populations. The aim of this study was to screen the early cognitive status of patients following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) with the MoCA. METHODS The MoCA was administered within the first 2 weeks post-injury to 42 patients with uncomplicated mTBI, 92 patients with complicated mTBI and 50 healthy controls. RESULTS Patients with complicated mTBI had a significantly lower performance (more impairments) on the total score of the MoCA than both the group with uncomplicated mTBI and the control group. Also, the group with uncomplicated mTBI had a significantly lower performance than controls. Moreover, age, education and TBI severity had a significant effect on the MoCA total score where younger, more educated and patients with less severe (higher GCS score) mTBI performed significantly better. CONCLUSIONS The MoCA may be clinically useful to acutely screen cognition following mTBI.

Abstract
Acquired language impairments may accompany different conditions. Most recent studies have shown that there is an important relationship between language and cognitive functions, such as executive functions (EF). Therefore, we aimed to investigate which main EF components appear to have the greatest impact in the most prevalent acquired communication disorders in adults, and which neuropsychological tests are being used to evaluate them. In addition, we sought to characterize the relationship between the executive functions and language in these conditions. Working memory (WM) was the most frequently chosen cognitive measure, being evaluated by different span tasks. A relationship between WM and narrative and conversational discourse, writing abilities and grammatical comprehension was found. Other currently used cognitive tests included the Trail Making, Wisconsin, Stroop and Verbal Fluency tests. Language and EF have a complex relationship; hence, a complete assessment should reflect the dynamic processing of cognitive brain functions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Delay and impairment in Speech and language are common developmental problems in younger populations. Hitherto, there has been minimal study of the association between common childhood infections (e.g. enterovirus [EV]) and speech and language. The impetus for evaluating this association is provided by evidence linking inflammation to neurodevelopmental disorders. Herein we sought to determine whether an association exists between EV infection and subsequent diagnoses of speech and language impairments in a nationwide population-based sample in Taiwan. METHODS Our study acquired data from the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database. The sample was comprised of individuals under 18 years of age with newly diagnosed EV infection during the period from January 1998 to December 2011. 39669 eligible cases were compared to matched controls and assessed during the study period for incident cases of speech and language impairments. Cox regression analyses were applied, adjusting for sex, age and other physical and mental problems. RESULTS In the fully adjusted Cox regression model for hazard ratios, EV infection as positively associated with speech and language impairments (HR = 1.14, 95% CI: 1.06-1.22) after adjusting for age, sex and other confounds. Compared to the control group, the hazard ratio for speech and language impairments was 1.12 (95% CI: 1.03-1.21) amongst the group of EV infection without hospitalization, and 1.26 (95% CI: 1.10-1.45) amongst the group of EV infection with hospitalization. CONCLUSIONS EV infection is temporally associated with incident speech and language impairments. Our findings herein provide rationale for educating families that EV infection may be associated with subsequent speech and language problems in susceptible individuals and that monitoring for such a presentation would be warranted. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS?: Speech and language impairments associated with central nervous system infections have been reported in the literature. EV are medically important human pathogens and associated with select neuropsychiatric diseases. Notwithstanding, relatively few reports have mentioned the effects of EV infection on speech and language problems. Our study used a nationwide longitudinal dataset and identified that children with EV infection have a greater risk for speech and language impairments as compared with control group. Infected children combined other comorbidities or risk factors might have greater possibility to develop speech problems. Clinicians should be vigilant for the onset of language developmental abnormalities of preschool children with EV infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Communication impairment following a traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been well documented, yet information regarding communication skills in the acute period following the injury is limited in the literature. Also, little is known about the influence of TBI severity (mild, moderate or severe) on cognitive-communication impairments and how these impairments are related to short-term functional outcome. The goal of this study was to assess the performance of adults with mild, moderate and severe TBI on different language tests and to determine how this performance is related to functional capacity. We also aimed to explore which variables among age, sex, education, TBI severity and site of cerebral damage would predict initial language impairments. METHODS Several language tests were administered to a sample of 145 adult patients with TBI of a range of severities admitted to an acute care service and to 113 healthy participants from the community. RESULTS TBI patients of a range of severities performed poorly on all language tests in comparison to the healthy controls. In addition, patients with mild TBI performed better than the moderate and severe groups, except on the reading test and on the semantic naming test. In addition, their performance on verbal fluency, conversational discourse and procedural discourse tasks predicted acute functional outcome. Finally, age, education and TBI severity and site of lesion predicted some language performance. A left temporal lesion was associated with poorer performance in conversational discourse and auditory comprehension tasks, a left frontal lesion with a decrease in the verbal fluency results and a right parietal lesion with decreased auditory comprehension and reasoning skills. CONCLUSION Health care professionals working in the acute care setting should be aware of the possible presence of cognitive-communication impairments in patients with TBI, even for those with mild TBI. These deficits can lead to functional communication problems and assistance may be required for tasks frequently encountered in acute care requiring intact comprehension and expression.

Abstract
PURPOSE (i) To systematically review longitudinal and prognostic studies relating to the trajectory of cognitive-communication recovery after TBI and (ii) to provide recommendations to strengthen future research. METHOD Thirteen health literature databases were accessed up until July 2014. MAIN MEASURES Articles were screened systematically against pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Quality reviews were performed on the selected articles using a modified Downs & Black Rating Scale. Two independent reviewers performed the reviews. RESULT Sixteen longitudinal and prognostic articles met the inclusion criteria. There was evidence of either maintenance or improvement of cognitive-communication skills during the first 3 years post-injury. However, the studies did not provide detailed recovery trajectories, by failing to evaluate numerous data points over time. No studies evaluated recovery beyond 3 years post-injury. Injury severity, lesion location, brain volume loss and conversation skills may predict specific cognitive-communication outcomes. There was high variability in study characteristics and measures. CONCLUSION There is currently scarce evidence regarding cognitive-communication recovery and prognosis. People with TBI may recover or maintain pre-morbid cognitive-communication skills during the early rehabilitation stage. Further research detailing the recovery trajectory with a view to evaluating predictive factors is strongly indicated. Guidelines for future research are provided.

Abstract
O traumatismo cranioencefálico (TCE) pode acarretar mudanças no cotidiano e prejuízos social laboral comunicativo e cognitivo (dificuldades atencionais mnemônicas e executivas). Este estudo buscou caracterizar a ocorrência de déficits neuropsicológicos após o TCE em uma amostra de adultos e verificar se há impacto do nível de severidade do trauma no desempenho cognitivo dos pacientes. Participaram 96 adultos divididos em dois grupos: TCE leve (n=39) e grave (n=57). A gravidade do trauma foi classificada pela Escala de Coma de Glasgow pela duração da perda de consciência. ou pela amnésia pós-traumática. Não houve diferença nas variáveis sociodemográficas idade e escolaridade entre os grupos. Para a comparação entre grupos quanto a ocorrência de déficits neuropsicológicos. utilizou-se o Qui-quadrado. Tarefas verbais e visuoespaciais de funções executivas habilidades linguísticas. mnemônicas verbais compuseram uma bateria neuropsicológica flexível.Os pacientes com TCE leve tiveram menos déficits comparados aos com TCE grave (erros e categorias completadas do Wisconsin Teste de Classificação de Cartas; erros da parte B do Teste Hayling; e na interferência pró e retroativa do teste de aprendizagem verbal de Rey). A severidade do trauma parece diferenciar indivíduos no desempenho de memória episódica no contexto de maior sobrecarga de informações novas e no controle da interferência entre memórias; o mesmo se aplica às funções de flexibilidade e inibição. Fazse necessário um maior investimento em ações de políticas públicas de saúde priorizando intervenção neurognitiva remediativa e métodos de prevenção para acidentes relacionados a lesões traumáticas com alta ocorrência de sequelas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The objective was to determine the predictors of posttraumatic psychiatric disorders (PTPD) during the first 6 months following traumatic brain injury (TBI) focusing on neuroimaging, clinical and neuropsychological appraisements during acute and discharge phase of TBI. MATERIALS AND METHODS We designed a prospective, longitudinal study in which 150 eligible TBI patients were entered. Postresuscitation brain injury severity and discharged functional outcome were evaluated by standard clinical scales. First neuroimaging was done at a maximum of 24 h after head trauma. Early posttraumatic (PT) neuropsychological outcomes were assessed using Persian neuropsychological tasks at discharge. The standardized psychiatric assessments were carefully implemented 6 months postinjury. A total of 133 patients returned for follow-up assessment at 6 months. They were divided into two groups according to the presence of PTPD. RESULTS Apparently, aggression was the most prevalent type of PTPD (31.48%). There was no significant difference between groups regarding functional outcome at discharge. Diffuse axonal injury (12.96%) and hemorrhages (40.74%) within the cortex (42.59%) and sub-cortex (33.33) significantly occurred more prevalent in PTPD group than non-PTPD ones. Primary postresuscitation TBI severity, early PT lingual deficit and subcortical lesion on first scan were able to predict PTPD at 6 months follow-up. CONCLUSION Almost certainly, the expansive dissociation risk of cortical and subcortical pathways related to linguistic deficits due to severe intracranial lesions over a period of time can augment possibility of subsequent conscious cognitive-emotional processing deficit, which probably contributes to latter PTPD. Hence, early combined therapeutic supplies including neuroprotective pharmacotherapy and neurofeedback for neural function reorganization can dampen the lesion expansion and latter PTPD.
