Abstract
The application of mixed-linker strategies in the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has garnered considerable interest owing to their potential as fluorescent sensors, attributed to their facile synthesis and incorporation of diverse functional ligands. In this study, we designed and synthesized a novel fluorescent Zr-based MOFs, denoted as MOF-808-NH2, through the post-synthetic modification of 2-amino terephthalic acid (BDC-NH2) on coordinatively unsaturated Zr sites, thereby preserving the structural stability of the parent framework. The MOFs exhibited exceptional turn-on fluorescence in aqueous solutions containing fluoride ions (F-). The interaction between the-NH2 groups on MOF-808-NH2 and F- facilitated the formation of hydrogen bonds, significantly enhancing the fluorescence emission intensity of BDC-NH2 at 450 nm and inducing a blue shift in the fluorescence emission peak, enabling the specific recognition of F- even in the presence of various anionic interferences. Notably, MOF-808-NH2 demonstrates an ultrafast response time (within 30 s), a high detection sensitivity with a limit of detection of 1.56 μM, and remarkable selectivity and anti-interference properties with pronounced fluorescence emission against a dark background. Furthermore, MOF-808-NH2 retained outstanding thermal, mechanical, and chemical stabilities, underscoring its potential for practical applications in selective F- detection.

Abstract
The development of a rapid and convenient detection method for nitrofurantoin (NFT) residual is of great significance for food safety. Herein, a new fluorescent probe (Eu-TDCA-Phen) was developed for the visual and sensitive assay of NFT through the fluorescence quenching effect of inner filter effect (IFE) and photo-induced electron transfer (PET). The probe suspension demonstrates a wide linear range (0-0.16 mM), low detection limit (90 nM), high sensitivity, and rapid response time (2 min) in the "turn-off" process. To quantify the visual detection process, a smartphone-assisted test paper sensing platform was established and was applied for NFT determination in real honey samples, achieving satisfactory recovery rate ranges from 98.04 % to 105.04 %. Furthermore, a logic gate device was integrated with the sensing platform to streamline the visual detection process. The sensing platform offers several merits, including simpleness, quantification, portability and cost-effectiveness, making it highly suitable for real-time and on-site detection of antibiotics in food samples.

Abstract
Pymetrozine (PYM) is an effective pyridine insecticide for controlling aphids, while its residues pose a serious threat to human health. Herein, a europium complex (Eu-DBPA, DBPA represents deprotonated 2,5-dibromoterephthalic acid ligand) probe was prepared for the detection of PYM via fluorescence quenching. The detection process has the advantages of short response time (2 min), wide linear range (0-4 and 4-45 mg/kg) and low detection limit (2.2 μg/kg). Furthermore, a portable detection platform was designed by integrating Eu-DBPA-based paper strip with smartphone and applied for the visual detection of PYM in real cucumber, tomato, cabbage and apple samples, obtaining satisfactory recovery (99.00 %-107.00 %) and low standard deviation (RSD < 3.4 %). In addition, a logic gate device was designed to simplify the detection process. The smartphone-integrated paper-based probe detection platform provides a new strategy for intelligent and online identification of hazards in environmental and biological samples.

Abstract
A novel ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe was developed to detect tryptophan enantiomers with high selectivity and sensitivity. Fluorescein (FL) was doped into SiO2 nanoparticles with little dye leakage, acting as an internal reference signal. The chiral center of L-histidine (L-His) was introduced by partially replacing the carboxyl on the surface of SiO2. The response signal of Eu3+ was coordinated with carboxyl to obtain the FL@SiO2-Eu/His nanoprobe. The nanoprobe shows enantioselective luminescence responses for tryptophan enantiomers. The red emission of Eu3+ can be effectively quenched by the tryptophan enantiomers, but the quenching efficiency is different due to the different interactions with the chiral recognition sites. The fluorescence intensity ratio (I613/I515) shows excellent linearity with tryptophan enantiomers in the range of 0-100 μM (R2 > 0.99). The limit of detection (LOD) is 1.0 μM and 1.3 μM for L-tryptophan (L-Trp) and D-tryptophan (D-Trp), respectively. The FL@SiO2-Eu/His nanoprobe shows good selectivity and specific recognition in serum actual samples. In addition, the nanoprobe can realize visual detection under UV light due to the obvious color change. This work provides an innovative idea for the development of new probes in the detection field.

Abstract
Lanthanide-based metal-organic frameworks show good potential for applications due to their unique structures and functional properties. A highly thermally and acid-base stable Eu-MOF was synthesized by a solvothermal method with the molecular formula {[(CH3)2NH2]2[Eu2(NDDP)2(H2O)2]·H2O}n (Eu-MOF, H4NDDP = 5,5'-(naphthalene-2,6-diyl)diisophthalic acid). Eu-MOF takes a three-dimensional (4,4,8)-connected topology. The water molecules involved in the coordination, free water molecules, and [(CH3)2NH2]+ cations in the pore can be used as proton carriers. The proton conductivity attains 1.25 × 10-4 S cm-1 at room temperature and 2.42 × 10-3 S cm-1 at 70 °C and 98% relative humidity. Combined with the dual-emission properties from the ligands and Eu(III) ions enables Eu-MOF to be used as a ratiometric fluorescent sensor for phosphate efficiently and rapidly, with a limit of detection of 0.12 μM in the Tris-HCl buffer solution. These results provide a new approach for the construction of MOFs with high proton conductivity and a ratiometric fluorescence response.

Abstract
Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) is a commonly used flour whitener, but its excessive usage can have adverse effects on human health, such as nutrient loss, vitamin deficiencies and certain diseases. In this study, a europium metal organic framework (Eu-MOF) fluorescence probe was prepared, which exhibited a strong fluorescence emission at 614 nm upon excitation at 320 nm, with a high quantum yield of 8.11%. The red fluorescence of the probe could be effectively quenched by BPO through the inner filter effect (IFE) and photoinduced electron transfer (PET) mechanism. The detection process offered several advantages, including a wide linear range of 0-0.95 mM, a low detection limit of 66 nM and a fast fluorescence response of 2 min. Furthermore, an intelligent detection platform was designed to enhance the practical application of the detection method. This platform combined the portability and visuality of a traditional test strip with the color recognition capability of a smartphone, allowing for the visualization and quantitative detection of BPO in a convenient and user-friendly manner. The detection platform was successfully applied to the analysis of BPO in real flour samples with satisfactory recoveries (99.79%-103.94%), suggesting a promising strategy for the rapid and on-site detection of BPO in food samples.

Abstract
Single-emission luminescence sensors are less than satisfactory for complex systems due to their susceptibility to environmental disturbances. Lanthanum-based metal-organic frameworks (Ln-MOFs) with highly stable ratiometric dual-emission are regarded as promising luminescence probes owing to their fascinating ligand-to-metal energy transfer behaviors (also known as the antenna effect). Herein, we report the synthesis of a pair of isostructural europium-based MOFs (termed JNU-219 and JNU-220) by utilizing two X-shaped tetracarboxylate linkers, 4,4',4″,4‴-benzene-2,3,5,6-tetrayl-tetrabenzoate (BTEB) and 4,4',4″,4‴-pyrazine-2,3,5,6-tetrayl-tetrabenzoate (BTTB). Both JNU-219 and JNU-220 present the characteristic red luminescence of Eu3+, yet the pyrazine functionalization of the BTTB linker renders JNU-220 with significantly increased luminescence emission, almost 30 times that of JNU-219. As a result, the detection limit of JNU-220 for the ratiometric luminescence sensing of PO43- was determined to be as low as 0.22 μM, which is far superior to those of other reported MOF materials. Additionally, we demonstrate the excellent stability and reusability of JNU-220, further verifying its potential as a robust ratiometric luminescence probe.

Abstract
Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are ubiquitous persistent organic pollutants that cause harmful effects on environmental safety and human health. There is an urgent need to develop an intelligent method for PCBs sensing. In this work, we proposed a logic gate biosensing platform for simultaneous detection of multiple PCBs. 2,3',5,5'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB72) and 3,3',4,4'-tetrachlorobiphenyl (PCB77) were used as the two inputs to construct biocomputing logic gates. We used 0 and 1 to encode the inputs and outputs. The aptamer was used to recognize the inputs and release the trigger DNA. A catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) module is designed to convert and amplify each trigger DNA into multiple programmable DNA duplexes, which initiate the trans-cleavage activity of CRISPR/Cas12a for the signal output. The activated Cas12 cleaves the BHQ-Cy5 modified single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) to yield the fluorescence reporting signals. In the YES logic gate, PCB72 was used as the only input to carry out the logic operation. In the OR, AND, and INHIBIT logic gates, PCB72 and PCB77 were used as the two inputs. The output signals can be visualized by the naked eye under UV light transilluminators or quantified by a microplate reader. Our constructed biosensing platform possesses the merits of multiple combinations of inputs, intuitive digital output, and high flexibility and scalability, which holds great promise for the intelligent detection of different PCBs.

Abstract
A lanthanide terbium/europium metal-organic framework (Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF) was prepared by one-step solvothermal method at room temperature. A series of characterizations including scanning electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction spectra, Fourier transform infrared spectra and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were carried out to clarify the physical characteristics of the synthesized material. The data clarified that the prepared Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF possessed rod-like morphology with a width of 1-2 μm, and had good crystal structure, good stability, response speed and excitation-independent emission feature. The bunchy Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF was then used to construct fluorescent sensors for rapid identification of malachite green and sulfamerazine. It was revealed that the detection mechanism was inner filter effect. The effects of different parameters such as excitation wavelength and incubation times were investigated on the fluorescence analysis performance. The data clarified that the optimal excitation wavelength and incubation time was 240 nm and 3 min, respectively. The detection platform exhibited the high sensitivity and selectivity toward malachite green in the linear range of 2-180 μM and determined limit of detection was 1.12 μM. Besides, the proposed sensor allowed sensitive detection of sulfamerazine in the linear range of 2-140 μM with a low detection limit of 0.1 μM. Meaningfully, a smartphone application was designed to assist the proposed sensor to realize visual, intelligent and rapid detection of malachite green and sulfamerazine. Furthermore, the practical application of the proposed sensor has been also verified by high performance liquid chromatography, showing good accuracy, sensitivity and satisfactory recoveries. The results suggested that the Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF-based ratiometric fluorescent sensor had the potential to become a promising technique for rapid detection of malachite green or sulfamerazine with smartphone application. Therefore, the prepared Tb0.6Eu0.4-MOF is one kind of efficient and cost-effective potential materials for developing fluorescent sensor for rapid, sensitive and selective detection of sulfamerazine and malachite.

Abstract
The identification of residual thiram (Tr) in foods is vital in view of its harmful effects on human health. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescence sensor (I435/I590) based on rhodamine B/NH2-MIL-53(Al0.75Fe0.25) was constructed for the detection of Tr. Interestingly, the probe RhB/NH2-MIL-53(Bim) assisted by Cu2+ could rapidly and sensitively recognize Tr with a low detection limit of 0.11 μg/mL in 10 min. The fluorescence sensing mechanism was investigated using fluorescence spectra, UV-Vis absorption spectra, the fluorescence lifetime and quantum yield. The results showed that the excellent sensing performance was attributed to fluorescence resonance energy transfer, electrostatic interaction, and photoinduced electron transfer. In addition, the practical application of this platform showed acceptable relative recoveries for Tr (84.03-107.81 %), and precisions were also achieved (relative standard deviation ≤ 8.69 %, n = 3). These results show that the presented herein can be applied to monitor the Tr content in real fruit samples.

Abstract
Continuous accumulation of Al3+ in the human body and unintended leakage of UO22+ have posed a great threat to human health and the global environment; thus searching an efficient probe for the detection of Al3+ and UO22+ is of great importance. Herein, we designed and synthesized two hydrolytically stable Eu3+- and Tb3+-functionalized MOF materials Eu@MOF-808-TDA and Tb@MOF-808-TDA via thiodiglycolic acid (TDA) intermediates by the postsynthetic modification method. Among them, Tb@MOF-808-TDA was applied to construct numerical recognition systems of multiples of three and four by the combination of fluorescent signals, hierarchical cluster analysis, and logical gates. In addition, Tb@MOF-808-TDA exhibits good selectivity and sensitivity for the detection of Al3+ and UO22+. The detection limit is calculated to be 0.085 ppm for Al3+ and 0.082 ppm for UO22+ in aqueous solutions, which is lower than or close to that of latest reported Ln-MOFs. Moreover, the probe shows excellent hydrolytic stability and luminescence stability in the pH range of 4-11, further providing solid evidence for the practical application of Tb@MOF-808-TDA. More importantly, a mixed matrix hydrogel PVA-Tb@MOF-808-TDA was prepared to achieve the visual detection of Al3+, which broadens the potential in real-world sensing applications.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have excellent applicability in several fields and have significant structural advantages, due to their open pore structure, high porosity, large specific surface area, and easily modifiable and functionalized porous surface. In addition, a variety of luminescent guest (LG) species can be encapsulated in the pores of MOFs, giving MOFs a broader luminescent capability. The applications of a variety of LG@MOF sensors, constructed by doping MOFs with LGs such as lanthanide ions, carbon quantum dots, luminescent complexes, organic dyes, and metal nanoclusters, for fluorescence detection of various target analyses such as ions, biomarkers, pesticides, and preservatives are systematically introduced in this review. The development of these sensors for portable visual fluorescence sensing applications is then covered. Finally, the challenges that these sectors currently face, as well as the potential for future growth, are briefly discussed.

Abstract
By immobilizing the chiral center l-histidine (l-His) into a Zr-based metal-organic framework (MOF) through post-synthetic ligand exchange, a chiral compound MOF-His has been prepared. On this basis, MOF-His is hybridized with Eu3+ ions to obtain the final responsive compound Eu@MOF-His. It is worth noting that the bifunctional material exhibits enantioselective luminescence properties for tryptophan enantiomers. The experimental results demonstrate that tryptophan enantiomers can effectively quench the red-light emission of Eu3+ ions, and also, the quenching rates are various, which may originate from the differences in the interaction between analytes and chiral recognition sites. In addition, Eu@MOF-His can realize the sensing of tryptophan enantiomers in serum. Concurrently, the compound possesses reusability, high sensitivity, and fast response speed, which means that it has the potential to serve as an excellent fluorescent sensor for detecting and identifying tryptophan enantiomers.

Abstract
Fast, simple, and low-cost on-site visualized detection of inorganic phosphate (Pi) is in great demand since phosphate is the major reason of eutrophication. In this work, a ratiometric fluorescent probe composed by green carbon dots (GCDs) and red carbon dots (RCDs) has been established for high-sensitivity and selective sensing of Pi. A trend of color change from red to green is observed for the detection of Pi under ultraviolet light and the detection limit is 0.09 μM in the range of 0 to 55 μM. Fluorescent test paper prepared from the probe solution was successfully applied to semi-quantitative visual detection of Pi in real-world water and soil samples, which shows great real-world application potentials.

Abstract
Herein, a fluorescent nanosensor has been constructed for detection of glutathione (GSH) based on NH2-UiO-66 and AgNPs. The NH2-UiO-66 was synthesized where 2-amino-terephthalic acid as the organic ligand and Zr4+ as the center metal ions. The AgNPs can enhance the fluorescence of NH2-UiO-66 based on metal enhanced fluorescence (MEF) effect. Moreover, in the present of GSH, the fluorescence of NH2-UiO-66@AgNPs was quenched via electrostatic interaction and Ag-S reaction. The present sensing strategy shows good linear relation with the concentration of GSH in the range of 0.2-1.0 μM and 1.0-30 μM, and the limit of detection is 79 nM. Furthermore, our fluorescent nanosensor was utilized to detect GSH in human serum with a recovery of 96.8-102.5%. The results indicated that NH2-UiO-66@AgNPs is successfully applied for high sensitive and selective detection of GSH in human serum.

Abstract
As one of primary biomarkers of ovarian cancer in early stages, β-galactosidase (β-Gal) is significant in the discovery and diagnosis of the disease. In this work, we constructed a multi-signal sensing platform based on silicon nanoparticles (Si NPs) for β-Gal activity determination. When β-Gal was introduced to the sensing system, 2-Nitrophenyl β-D-galactopyranoside (ONPG) could be converted to o-Nitrophenol (o-NP), which had a characteristic absorption peak at 416 nm and the colorless solution turned yellow. The fluorescence emission of Si NPs at 450 nm can be greatly quenched by o-NP as a consequence of inner filter effect (IFE). This dual-signal fluorometric and colorimetric determination approach could be utilized to detect β-Gal in the range of 2-120 U/L and 6-120 U/L. The limits of detection were 1.36 U/L and 1.07 U/L, respectively. This sensing platform could be successfully utilized to detect β-Gal in real samples. Additionally, a visual detection method was designed to achieve quantitative analysis of β-Gal with the assistance of the smartphone.

Abstract
As a crucial biothiol, glutathione (GSH) plays a key role in the organisms. Monitoring GSH level is of great significance for disease diagnosis and biomedical research. In this work, polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles-red fluorescent carbonized polymer dots (r-CPDs) based ratiometric fluorescence sensing platform was constructed and employed for GSH assay. Dopamine (DA) could be oxidized by cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoOOH) nanosheets and further polymerized into PDA nanoparticles with green fluorescence. However, in the presence of GSH, CoOOH nanosheets were reduced and decomposed, which prevented the production of PDA nanoparticles. In the sensing system, green-emitting PDA nanoparticles were employed as a response unit and r-CPDs were used as an internal reference unit. With the addition of GSH, the green fluorescence of PDA nanoparticles decreased as well as the red fluorescence of system remained relatively stable. Importantly, a distinct fluorescence color evolution from green to red was presented with a serious of GSH concentrations. Based on this, a portable smartphone-assisted ratiometric chromaticity analytical method was developed to achieve the on-site visual detection of GSH. Both the established ratiometric fluorescence and ratiometric chromaticity sensing methods for GSH assay have the merits of wide linear range, high sensitivity and excellent accuracy, which are suitable for the determination of GSH in human serum and exhibit great application potential in rapid and accurate monitoring of the GSH levels in clinical. Moreover, an ingenious logical device reflecting GSH levels was designed based on the two different fluorescence signals, which provided a new strategy for the intelligent online detection of GSH in complex biological matrices.

Abstract
Luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) as chemosensors, can sense various analytes, such as heavy metal ions, antibiotics, pesticides, and small biological molecules. Based on the fluorescence characteristics of LMOFs, a variety of logic gates have been developed. In this review, we mainly discuss some common logic systems based on LMOFs, and then summarize the strategies of constructing logic gates from two perspectives. One is based on superior characteristics of MOFs, which can be synthesized from Ln3+ based MOFs (Ln-MOFs) or form hybrids by encapsulating different materials, including metal ions, dyes, and quantum dots (QDs). The other is to control the presence of inputs by reactions between different reactants and then further control switches of logic gates. Additionally, the common sensing mechanisms of LMOFs in logic gates are discussed. In the end, we have envisioned MOFs that possess a promising future in logic computing areas.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are exceptionally large surface area materials with organized porous cages that have been investigated for nearly three decades. Due to the flexibility in their design and predisposition toward functionalization, they have shown promise in many areas of application, including chemical sensing. Consequently, they are identified as advanced materials with potential for deployment in analytical devices for chemical and biochemical sensing applications, where high sensitivity is desirable, for example, in environmental monitoring and to advance personal diagnostics. To keep abreast of new research, which signposts the future directions in the development of MOF-based chemical sensors, this review examines studies since 2015 that focus on the applications of MOF films and devices in chemical sensing. Various examples that use MOF films in solid-state sensing applications were drawn from recent studies based on electronic, electrochemical, electromechanical and optical sensing methods. These examples underscore the readiness of MOFs to be integrated in optical and electronic analytical devices. Also, preliminary demonstrations of future sensors are indicated in the performances of MOF-based wearables and smartphone sensors. This review will inspire collaborative efforts between scientists and engineers working within the field of MOFs, leading to greater innovations and accelerating the development of MOF-based analytical devices for chemical and biochemical sensing applications.
