Siderophores are small molecules of organic nature, released by bacteria to chelate iron from the surrounding environment and subsequently incorporate it into the cytoplasm. In addition to iron, these secondary metabolites can complex with a wide variety of metals, which is why they are commonly studied in the environment. Heavy metals can be very toxic when present in large amounts on the planet, affecting public health and all living organisms. The pollution caused by these toxic metals is increasing, and therefore it is urgent to find practical, sustainable, and economical solutions for remediation. One of the strategies is siderophore-assisted bioremediation, an innovative and advantageous alternative for various environmental applications. This research highlights the various uses of siderophores and metallophores in the environment, underscoring their significance to ecosystems. The study delves into the utilization of siderophores and metallophores in both marine and terrestrial settings (e.g. bioremediation, biocontrol of pathogens, and plant growth promotion), such as bioremediation, biocontrol of pathogens, and plant growth promotion, providing context for the different instances outlined in the existing literature and highlighting their relevance in each field. The study delves into the structures and types of siderophores focusing on their singular characteristics for each application and methodologies used. Focusing on recent developments over the last two decades, the opportunities and challenges associated with siderophores and metallophores applications in the environment were mapped to arm researchers in the fight against environmental pollution.

Comprehensive review on recent trends and perspectives of natural exo-polysaccharides: Pioneering nano-biotechnological tools

Exopolysaccharides (EPSs), originating from various microbes, and mushrooms, excel in their conventional role in bioremediation to showcase diverse applications emphasizing nanobiotechnology including nano-drug carriers, nano-excipients, medication and/or cell encapsulation, gene delivery, tissue engineering, diagnostics, and associated treatments. Acknowledged for contributions to adsorption, nutrition, and biomedicine, EPSs are emerging as appealing alternatives to traditional polymers, for biodegradability and biocompatibility. This article shifts away from the conventional utility to delve deeply into the expansive landscape of EPS applications, particularly highlighting their integration into cutting-edge nanobiotechnological methods. Exploring EPS synthesis, extraction, composition, and properties, the discussion emphasizes their structural diversity with molecular weight and heteropolymer compositions. Their role as raw materials for value-added products takes center stage, with critical insights into recent applications in nanobiotechnology. The multifaceted potential, biological relevance, and commercial applicability of EPSs in contemporary research and industry align with the nanotechnological advancements coupled with biotechnological nano-cleansing agents are highlighted. EPS-based nanostructures for biological applications have a bright future ahead of them. Providing crucial information for present and future practices, this review sheds light on how eco-friendly EPSs derived from microbial biomass of terrestrial and aquatic environments can be used to better understand contemporary nanobiotechnology for the benefit of society.

Synergizing biotechnology and natural farming: pioneering agricultural sustainability through innovative interventions

The world has undergone a remarkable transformation from the era of famines to an age of global food production that caters to an exponentially growing population. This transformation has been made possible by significant agricultural revolutions, marked by the intensification of agriculture through the infusion of mechanical, industrial, and economic inputs. However, this rapid advancement in agriculture has also brought about the proliferation of agricultural inputs such as pesticides, fertilizers, and irrigation, which have given rise to long-term environmental crises. Over the past two decades, we have witnessed a concerning plateau in crop production, the loss of arable land, and dramatic shifts in climatic conditions. These challenges have underscored the urgent need to protect our global commons, particularly the environment, through a participatory approach that involves countries worldwide, regardless of their developmental status. To achieve the goal of sustainability in agriculture, it is imperative to adopt multidisciplinary approaches that integrate fields such as biology, engineering, chemistry, economics, and community development. One noteworthy initiative in this regard is Zero Budget Natural Farming, which highlights the significance of leveraging the synergistic effects of both plant and animal products to enhance crop establishment, build soil fertility, and promote the proliferation of beneficial microorganisms. The ultimate aim is to create self-sustainable agro-ecosystems. This review advocates for the incorporation of biotechnological tools in natural farming to expedite the dynamism of such systems in an eco-friendly manner. By harnessing the power of biotechnology, we can increase the productivity of agro-ecology and generate abundant supplies of food, feed, fiber, and nutraceuticals to meet the needs of our ever-expanding global population.

The Roles of Plant-Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR)-Based Biostimulants for Agricultural Production Systems

The application of biostimulants has been proven to be an advantageous tool and an appropriate form of management towards the effective use of natural resources, food security, and the beneficial effects on plant growth and yield. Plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are microbes connected with plant roots that can increase plant growth by different methods such as producing plant hormones and molecules to improve plant growth or providing increased mineral nutrition. They can colonize all ecological niches of roots to all stages of crop development, and they can affect plant growth and development directly by modulating plant hormone levels and enhancing nutrient acquisition such as of potassium, phosphorus, nitrogen, and essential minerals, or indirectly via reducing the inhibitory impacts of different pathogens in the forms of biocontrol parameters. Many plant-associated species such as Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Streptomyces, Serratia, Arthrobacter, and Rhodococcus can increase plant growth by improving plant disease resistance, synthesizing growth-stimulating plant hormones, and suppressing pathogenic microorganisms. The application of biostimulants is both an environmentally friendly practice and a promising method that can enhance the sustainability of horticultural and agricultural production systems as well as promote the quantity and quality of foods. They can also reduce the global dependence on hazardous agricultural chemicals. Science Direct, Google Scholar, Springer Link, CAB Direct, Scopus, Springer Link, Taylor and Francis, Web of Science, and Wiley Online Library were checked, and the search was conducted on all manuscript sections in accordance with the terms Acinetobacter, Arthrobacter, Enterobacter, Ochrobactrum, Pseudomonas, Rhodococcus, Serratia, Streptomyces, Biostimulants, Plant growth promoting rhizobactera, and Stenotrophomonas. The aim of this manuscript is to survey the effects of plant-growth-promoting rhizobacteria by presenting case studies and successful paradigms in various agricultural and horticultural crops.

Endophytic Streptomyces sp. NEAU-DD186 from Moss with Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Activity: Biocontrol Potential Against Soilborne Diseases and Bioactive Components

Soilborne diseases cause significant economic losses in agricultural production around the world. They are difficult to control because a host plant is invaded by multiple pathogens, and chemical control often does not work well. In this study, we isolated and identified an endophytic Streptomyces sp. NEAU-DD186 from moss, which showed broad-spectrum antifungal activity against 17 soilborne phytopathogenic fungi, with Bipolaris sorokiniana being the most prominent. The strain also exhibited strong antibacterial activity against soilborne phytopathogenic bacteria Ralstonia solanacearum. To evaluate its biocontrol potential, the strain was prepared into biofertilizer by solid-state fermentation. Response surface methodology was employed to optimize the fermentation conditions for maximizing spore production and revealed that the 1:1 ratio of vermicompost to wheat bran, a temperature of 28°C, and 50% water content with an inoculation amount of 15% represented the optimal parameters. Pot experiments showed that the application of biofertilizer with a spore concentration of 108 CFU/g soil could effectively suppress the occurrence of tomato bacterial wilt caused by R. solanacearum and wheat root rot caused by B. sorokiniana, and the biocontrol efficacy was 81.2 and 72.2%, respectively. Chemical analysis of strain NEAU-DD186 extracts using nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry and mass analysis indicated that 25-O-malonylguanidylfungin A and 23-O-malonylguanidylfungin A were the main active constituents, which showed high activity against R. solanacearum (EC50 of 2.46 and 2.58 µg ml-1) and B. sorokiniana (EC50 of 3.92 and 3.95 µg ml-1). In conclusion, this study demonstrates that Streptomyces sp. NEAU-DD186 can be developed as biofertilizer to control soilborne diseases.

Influence of microbial community succession on biodegradation of municipal sludge during biodrying coupled with photocatalysis

A 20-day sludge biodrying process was coupled with photocatalysis to improve biodrying efficiency and investigate the effect of photocatalysis on biodegradation. After biodrying, the moisture content in the coupled photocatalytic group (TCA) and the control group (TUCA) decreased from 63.61% to 50.82% and 52.94%, respectively, and the volatile solids content decreased from 73.18% to 63.42% and 64.39%, respectively. Neutral proteinase activity decreased by 9.38% and 28.69%, and lipase activity decreased by 6.12% and 26.17%, respectively, indicating that photocatalysis helped maintain neutral proteinase and lipase activities. The Chao1 and Shannon indices showed that photocatalysis increased fungal diversity and reduced bacterial richness and diversity. The β diversity clustering analysis indicated that the bacterial community structure during the thermophilic phase in TCA differed from that in TUCA. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes annotation showed that photocatalysis has the potential to promote the synthesis and degradation of ketone bodies. Biodrying coupled with photocatalysis can improve the dewatering of sludge without negatively affecting biodegradation.

Towards circular economy: Potential of microalgae - bacterial-based biofertilizer on plants

Biofertilizers encompass microorganisms that can be applied to plants, subsequently establishing themselves within the plant's rhizosphere or internal structures. This colonization stimulates plant development by enhancing nutrient absorption from the host. While there is growing literature documenting the applications of microalgae-based and bacterial-based biofertilizers, the research focusing on the effectiveness of consortia formed by these microorganisms as short-term plant biofertilizers is notably insufficient. This study seeks to assess the effectiveness of microalgae-bacterial biofertilizers in promoting plant growth and their potential contribution to the circular economy. The review sheds light on the impact of microalgae-bacterial biofertilizers on plant growth parameters, delving into factors influencing their efficiency, microalgae-bacteria interactions, and effects on soil health. The insights from this review are poised to offer valuable guidance to stakeholders in agriculture, including farmers, environmental technologists, and businesses. These insights will aid in the development and investment in more efficient and sustainable methods for enhancing crop yields, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and principles of the circular economy.

Use of biochar and a post-coagulation effluent as an adsorbent of malachite green, beneficial bacteria carrier, and seedling substrate for plants belonging to the poaceae family

Wastewater treatment plants produce solid and semi-solid sludge, which treatment minimises secondary environmental pollution because of wastewater treatment and obtaining new bioproducts. For this reason, in this paper, the co-pyrolysis of biogenic biomasses recovered from a biological reactor with immobilised fungal and bacterial biomass and a tertiary reactor with Chlorella sp. used for dye-contaminated wastewater treatment was carried out. Biogenic biomasses mixed with pine bark allowed the production and characterisation of two types of biochar. The raw material and biochar were on the "in vitro" germination of Lolium sp. seeds, followed by adsorption studies for malachite green (MG) dye using the raw material and the biochar. Results showed that using 60 mg L-1 of a cationic coagulant at pH 6.5 allowed for the recovery of more than 90% of the microalgae after 50 min of processing. Two biochar resulted: BC300, at pH 5.08 ± 0.08 and BC500, at pH 6.78 ± 0.01. The raw material and both biochars were co-inoculated with growth-promoting bacteria; their viabilities ranged from 1.7 × 106 ± 1.0 × 101 to 7.5 × 108 ± 6.0 × 102 CFU g-1 for total heterotrophic, nitrogen-fixing and phosphate-solubilising bacteria. Re-use tests on Lolium sp. seed germination showed that with the post-coagulation effluent, the germination was 100%, while with the biochar, with and without beneficial bacteria, the germination was 98 and 99%, respectively. Finally, BC500 adsorbed the highest percentage of malachite green at pH 4.0, obtaining qecal values of 0.5249 mg g-1 (R2: 0.9875) with the pseudo-second-order model.

Soil microbes: a natural solution for mitigating the impact of climate change

Soil microbes are microscopic organisms that inhabit the soil and play a significant role in various ecological processes. They are essential for nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration, and maintaining soil health. Importantly, soil microbes have the potential to sequester carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere through processes like carbon fixation and storage in organic matter. Unlocking the potential of microbial-driven carbon storage holds the key to revolutionizing climate-smart agricultural practices, paving the way for sustainable productivity and environmental conservation. A fascinating tale of nature's unsung heroes is revealed by delving into the realm of soil microbes. The guardians of the Earth are these tiny creatures that live beneath our feet and discreetly work their magic to fend off the effects of climate change. These microbes are also essential for plant growth enhancement through their roles in nutrient uptake, nitrogen fixation, and synthesis of growth-promoting chemicals. By understanding and managing soil microbial communities, it is possible to improve soil health, soil water-holding capacity, and promote plant growth in agricultural and natural ecosystems. Added to it, these microbes play an important role in biodegradation, bioremediation of heavy metals, and phytoremediation, which in turn helps in treating the contaminated soils. Unfortunately, climate change events affect the diversity, composition, and metabolism of these microbes. Unlocking the microbial potential demands an interdisciplinary endeavor spanning microbiology, ecology, agronomy, and climate science. It is a call to arms for the scientific community to recognize soil microbes as invaluable partners in the fight against climate change. By implementing data-driven land management strategies and pioneering interventions, we possess the means to harness their capabilities, paving the way for climate mitigation, sustainable agriculture, and promote ecosystem resilience in the imminent future.

Peanut-based Rotation Stabilized Diazotrophic Communities and Increased Subsequent Wheat Yield

The introduction of legumes into rotations can improve nitrogen use efficiency and crop yield; however, its microbial mechanism involved remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the temporal impact of peanut introduction on microorganisms related to nitrogen metabolism in rotation systems. In this study, the dynamics of diazotrophic communities in two crop seasons and wheat yields of two rotation systems: winter wheat - summer maize (WM) and spring peanut → winter wheat - summer maize (PWM) in the North China Plain were investigated. Our results showed that peanut introduction increased wheat yield and biomass by 11.6% (p < 0.05) and 8.9%, respectively. Lower Chao1 and Shannon indexes of the diazotrophic communities were detected in soils that sampling in June compared with those sampling in September, although no difference was found between WM and PWM. Principal co-ordinates analysis (PCoA) showed that rotation system significantly changed the diazotrophic community structures (PERMANOVA; p < 0.05). Compared with WM, the genera of Azotobacter, Skermanella, Azohydromonas, Rhodomicrobium, Azospirillum, Unclassified_f_Opitutaceae, and Unclassified_f_Rhodospirillaceae were significantly enriched (p < 0.05) in PWM. Furthermore, rotation system and sampling time significantly influenced soil properties, which significantly correlated with the top 15 genera in relative abundance. Partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) analysis further showed that the diazotrophic community diversity (alpha- and beta-diversity) and soil properties (pH, SOC and TN) significantly affected wheat yield. In conclusion, legume inclusion has the potential to stabilize diazotrophic community structure at the temporal scales and increase subsequent crop yield.

Endophytic Streptomyces sp. NEAU-ZSY13 from the leaf of Perilla frutescens, as a promising broad-spectrum biocontrol agent against soil-borne diseases

Soil-borne diseases cause significant economic losses in global agricultural production. These diseases are challenging to control due to the invasion of multiple pathogens into host plants, and traditional chemical control methods often yield unsatisfactory results. In this study, we isolated and identified an endophytic Streptomyces, designated as NEAU-ZSY13, from the leaf of Perilla frutescens. This isolate exhibited broad-spectrum antifungal activity against 17 soil-borne phytopathogenic fungi, with Bipolaris sorokiniana being the most prominent. Additionally, it displayed strong antibacterial activity against the soil-borne phytopathogenic bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum. To assess its biocontrol potential, the isolate was utilized to produce a biofertilizer through solid-state fermentation. The fermentation conditions were optimized using response surface methodology to maximize the spore production. The results revealed that more abundant spores were produced with a 1:2 ratio of vermicompost to wheat bran, 60% water content, 20% inoculation amount and 28°C. Subsequent pot experiments demonstrated that the application of the biofertilizer with a spore concentration of 108 CFU/g soil effectively suppressed the occurrence of tomato bacterial wilt caused by R. solanacearum and wheat root rot caused by B. sorokiniana, with biocontrol efficacies of 72.2 and 78.3%, respectively. Chemical analysis of NEAU-ZSY13 extracts, using nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry and mass analysis, identified niphimycin C and niphimycin A as the primary active constituents. These compounds exhibited high activity against R. solanacearum (EC50 of 3.6 and 2.4 μg mL-1) and B. sorokiniana (EC50 of 3.9 and 3.4 μg mL-1). In conclusion, this study demonstrates the potential of Streptomyces sp. NEAU-ZSY13 as a biofertilizer for the control of soil-borne diseases.

Composition, structure, and functional shifts of prokaryotic communities in response to co-composting of various nitrogenous green feedstocks

BACKGROUND

Thermophilic composting is a promising method of sanitizing pathogens in manure and a source of agriculturally important thermostable enzymes and microorganisms from organic wastes. Despite the extensive studies on compost prokaryotes, shifts in microbial profiles under the influence of various green materials and composting days are still not well understood, considering the complexity of the green material sources. Here, the effect of regimens of green composting material on the diversity, abundance, and metabolic capacity of prokaryotic communities in a thermophilic compost environment was examined.

METHODS

Total community 16S rRNA was recovered from triplicate compost samples of Lantana-based, Tithonia-based, Grass-based, and mixed (Lantana + Tithonia + Grass)- based at 21, 42, 63, and 84 days of composting. The 16S rRNA was sequenced using the Illumina Miseq platform. Bioinformatics analysis was done using Divisive Amplicon Denoising Algorithm version 2 (DADA2) R version 4.1 and Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities by Reconstruction of Unobserved States version 2 (PICRUSt2) pipelines for community structure and metabolic profiles, respectively. In DADA2, prokaryotic classification was done using the Refseq-ribosomal database project (RDP) and SILVA version 138 databases.

RESULTS

Our results showed apparent differences in prokaryotic community structure for total diversity and abundance within the four compost regimens and composting days. The study showed that the most prevalent phyla during composting included Acidobacteriota, Actinobacteriota, Bacteroidota, Chloroflexi, and Proteobacteria. Additionally, there were differences in the overall diversity of metabolic pathways but no significant differences among the various compost treatments on major metabolic pathways like carbohydrate biosynthesis, carbohydrate degradation, and nitrogen biosynthesis.

CONCLUSION

Various sources of green material affect the succession of compost nutrients and prokaryotic communities. The similarity of amounts of nutrients, such as total Nitrogen, at the end of the composting process, despite differences in feedstock material, indicates a significant influence of composting days on the stability of nutrients during composting.

The biological and biochemical composition of wheat (Triticum aestivum) as affected by the bio and organic fertilizers

Microorganisms and organic compounds (humic and fulvic acid) offer viable alternatives to insecticides and mineral fertilizers. Even though many studies have shown the effects of biofertilizers and organic substances separately, little information is available on plant responses to the combined application of these bio-stimulants, even though these biological inputs have a high potential for simultaneous action. A two-year (2020/21-2021/22) field experiment was conducted to investigate the impact of organic and biofertilizers application on the growth, yield, and biochemical attributes of wheat (cv. Misr-1). Pre-planting, wheat seeds were inoculated with two biofertilizers including Mycorrhizae, and Azotobacter, and their combination (MIX), and control (un-inoculation) were considered the main plot factor. The subplot factor contained the foliar sprays of humic acid, fulvic acid, and control (no spray). The results revealed that the seed inoculation with mycorrhizae and azotobacter in combination with foliar-applied humic acid markedly (p ≤ 0.05) affected the growth, yield, and seed biochemical composition of wheat. Combination of mycorrhiza and azotobacter significantly (p ≤ 0.05) increased) plant height (100 cm), crop growth rate (18.69 g), number of spikelets per spike (22), biological yield (13.4 ton ha-1), grain yield (5.56 ton ha-1), straw yield (8.21 ton ha-1),), nitrogen (2.07%), phosphorous (0.91%), potassium (1.64%), protein content (12.76%), starch (51.81%), and gluten content (30.90%) compared to control. Among organic fertilizers, humic acid caused the maximum increase in plant height (93 cm), crop growth rate ( 15 g day-1 m-2),1000 grain weight (51 g), biological yield ( 11ton ha-1), grain yield (4.5 ton ha-1), protein content (11%), chlorophyll content (46 SPAD), and gluten (29.45%) as compared to all other treatments. The foliar application of humic acid combined with the mycorrhizae or azotobacter seed inoculation was efficient to induce wheat vegetative growth development, as well as yield and its components.

The effects of temperature, salt, and phosphate on biofilm and exopolysaccharide production by Azotobacter spp

Inoculation of agriculturally important biofilms to plants under stress conditions has been of great interest in recent years. Therefore, in this study, biofilm- and exopolysaccharide (EPS)-forming ability of Azotobacter spp. was examined under different temperatures, NaCl concentrations, and phosphate levels. Azotobacter strains formed varying levels of biofilm and EPS depending on the tested factors. The pattern of biofilm formation was similar to that of EPS production under the conditions tested. Biofilm and EPS production at 28 °C was consistently higher than at either 18 or 37 °C. Biofilm production significantly increased in A. chroococcum strains (SBS2, SBS4, and SBS12) and A. vinelandii SBS6 with increasing salinity. Furthermore, a strong negative correlation was observed between biofilm or EPS production and increasing phosphate concentrations. Higher phosphate concentrations decreased biofilm and EPS production. In conclusion, contrary to temperature and phosphate effect, salinity differently affected biofilm and EPS production by Azotobacter strains.

Screening of Azotobacter, Bacillus and Pseudomonas Species as Plant Growth-Promoting Bacteria

In this study, bacteria from the genus of Azotobacter, Bacillus and Pseudomonas were isolated from the roots of Phaseolus vulgaris and used as plant growth-promoting bacteria for Sinapis alba L., Brassica napus L., Amaranthus retroflexus L., Linum usitatissimum L., Panicum miliaceum L. and Rumex patientia L. plants. The results showed that all three bacteria had different effects on plants growth considering both sterile and non-sterile soil. Bacillus sp. induced the greatest influence in terms of the root length of Sinapis alba L. grown in sterile soil (with 28%), while considering non-sterile soil, Pseudomonas sp. increased the root and shoot length by 11.43% and 25.15%, respectively, compared to the blank sample. Azotobacter sp. exerted the highest beneficial influence on Brassica napus L. growth in non-sterile soil, since the root and shoot lengths were stimulated with 27.64% and 52.60%, respectively, compared to uninoculated plants. Bacillus sp. had a positive effect on the growth of the shoot length of Amaranthus retroflexus L. (with 30.30% in sterile soil and 3.69% in non-sterile soil compared to the control). Azotobacter sp. stimulated the growth of the root length of Rumex patientia L. with 35.29% in sterile soil and also the shoot length of Panicum miliaceum L. in non-sterile soil by 20.51% compared to the control. Further, the roots and shoots of Linum usitatissimum L. grown in non-sterile soil and in the presence of Pseudomonas sp. increased by 178.38% and 15.08%, respectively, compared to the flax grown in sterile soil. Statistically, according to Tukey’s Honestly Significant Difference (HSD) test results, not all observed differences in plants grown with the selected bacteria are significantly different compared to the control.

Impact of Plant-Beneficial Bacterial Inocula on the Resident Bacteriome: Current Knowledge and Future Perspectives

The inoculation of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) as biofertilizers is one of the most efficient and sustainable strategies of rhizosphere manipulation leading to increased plant biomass and yield and improved plant health, as well as the ameliorated nutritional value of fruits and edible seeds. During the last decades, exciting, but heterogeneous, results have been obtained growing PGPB inoculated plants under controlled, stressful, and open field conditions. On the other hand, the possible impact of the PGPB deliberate release on the resident microbiota has been less explored and the little available information is contradictory. This review aims at filling this gap: after a brief description of the main mechanisms used by PGPB, we focus our attention on the process of PGPB selection and formulation and we provide some information on the EU regulation for microbial inocula. Then, the concept of PGPB inocula as a tool for rhizosphere engineering is introduced and the possible impact of bacterial inoculant on native bacterial communities is discussed, focusing on those bacterial species that are included in the EU regulation and on other promising bacterial species that are not yet included in the EU regulation.

Rhizophagus irregularis and Azotobacter chroococcum Uphold Eggplant Production and Quality under Low Fertilization

Microorganisms are essential parts of soil and play an important role in mediating many processes and influencing plant health. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and nitrogen-fixing bacteria (NFB), the most common of such microorganisms, can benefit plants by enhancing the nutrient-absorbing ability of roots through bio-inoculation, also called biofertilization. Different methods have been tested and proven to be effective in the enhancement of soil nutrient availability. However, the effects of increased application of biological methods with minimal chemical fertilizers are still inconsistent. In this 2-year of fixed-point greenhouse test, we aimed to evaluate the impact of AMF (Rhizophagus irregularis) and/or NFB (Azotobacter) on growth, quality, and yield of eggplants under different N levels. Data showed that biofertilizer application with reduced chemical fertilizer had the highest impact on eggplant performance and yield. Indeed, low chemical fertilizers combined with adequate amounts of biofertilizers produced a higher plant height, length and width of leaves, dry matter, number of fruits per plant with better morphology, total yield per plant, and total soluble solids (TSS), suggesting that the use of Azotobacter and R. irregularis as biofertilizers could substantially reduce the use of chemical fertilizers without impairing the quality and yield of eggplant.

Electro-Hydraulic Effect as a Factor of Increasing the Efficiency of Organic Fertilizers in Agro-Industrial Production

Background. The development of the agro-industrial complex, the intensification of crop production cause soil pollution with the remains of fertilizers and herbicides. Therefore, reducing the amount of mineral fertilizers used, application of modern ecologically safe agricultural technologies is an urgent task. Among promising methods of obtaining organic fertilizers and soil treatment, the method of electrohydraulic effect (EHE) is especially noteworthy. This approach contributes to enriching soils with nitrogen and phosphorus, improving their structure and fertility. Objective. The aim of the work is evaluation of the effect of EHE on the qualitative and quantitative composition of organic extracts (cattle manure, earthworm coprolites, chicken droppings) and the effect of the obtained fertilizers on the morphometric indicators of corn seedlings and the content of photosynthetic pigments. Methods. The processing of organic substrates by EHE was carried out on a pulse generator with a power of 5 kW. Ammonia content in fertilizers was determined with the Nesler reagent, phosphates – with the Lowry–Lopez method, nitrates – with the Griess reagent, humic acids – with UV/Vis spectroscopy. Morphometric indicators, the content of photosynthetic pigments of corn seedlings were determined on the 7th day. Results. EHE treatment contributed to an increase in the content of phosphates, nitrates (by 15–60%), ammonium (8–14%) and humic acids (50–58%) in fertilizers. As a result, the morphometric indicators of seedlings increased compared to variants without EHE treatment (root mass – by 160–200%) under the action of processed fertilizers from chicken droppings and coprolites. Under the influence of all organic fertilizers, the content of photosynthesis pigments in plants also increased after the action of EHE: the content of carotenoids increased by 8.7% when using chicken manure and by 10% for coprolites. Conclusions. The treatment of organic waste from cattle manure, earthworm coprolites and chicken droppings by the EHE method is an effective approach to obtaining environmentally safe fertilizers characterized by a high content of phosphates, nitrates and ammonium, which is a favorable factor in growing plants, in particular in the early stages. Under the action of organic fertilizers from extracts of chicken droppings and coprolites, the morphometric indicators of corn seedlings significantly increased compared to the control. Our results show promising research on the effectiveness of the EHE method in various fields, in particular for cleaning and enriching soils, decontamination of industrial wastes, etc.

Overview of biofertilizers in crop production and stress management for sustainable agriculture

With the increase in world population, the demography of humans is estimated to be exceeded and it has become a major challenge to provide an adequate amount of food, feed, and agricultural products majorly in developing countries. The use of chemical fertilizers causes the plant to grow efficiently and rapidly to meet the food demand. The drawbacks of using a higher quantity of chemical or synthetic fertilizers are environmental pollution, persistent changes in the soil ecology, physiochemical composition, decreasing agricultural productivity and cause several health hazards. Climatic factors are responsible for enhancing abiotic stress on crops, resulting in reduced agricultural productivity. There are various types of abiotic and biotic stress factors like soil salinity, drought, wind, improper temperature, heavy metals, waterlogging, and different weeds and phytopathogens like bacteria, viruses, fungi, and nematodes which attack plants, reducing crop productivity and quality. There is a shift toward the use of biofertilizers due to all these facts, which provide nutrition through natural processes like zinc, potassium and phosphorus solubilization, nitrogen fixation, production of hormones, siderophore, various hydrolytic enzymes and protect the plant from different plant pathogens and stress conditions. They provide the nutrition in adequate amount that is sufficient for healthy crop development to fulfill the demand of the increasing population worldwide, eco-friendly and economically convenient. This review will focus on biofertilizers and their mechanisms of action, role in crop productivity and in biotic/abiotic stress tolerance.

Rhizophagus irregularis and Nitrogen Fixing Azotobacter with a Reduced Rate of Chemical Fertilizer Application Enhances Pepper Growth along with Fruits Biochemical and Mineral Composition

Bell pepper is an important vegetable crop containing lots of bioactive compounds. The present study was designed to improve the productivity and quality of bell pepper with the application of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Rhizophagus irregularis) and plant growth-promoting bacteria (Azotobacter chroococcum) in a combination of chemical fertilizer. Five treatments consisted of 75% chemical fertilizer (T1), 100% chemical fertilizer (T2), 75% chemical fertilizer + R. irregularis (T3), 75% chemical fertilizer + A. chroococcum (T4) and 75% chemical fertilizer + R. irregularis + A. chroococcum (T5). Out of 18 morphological parameters, 11 morphometric fruit parameters were recorded in detail by a tomato analyzer. The morphological and biochemical (TSS, ascorbic acid and capsaicin content) attributes of bell pepper were recorded higher in the case of a mixed consortium of chemical fertilizers having R. irregularis and A. chroococcum. Similarly, the amount of mineral content recorded was highest after 75% chemical fertilizer + R. irregularis + A. chroococcum, followed by the treatment with only 100% chemical fertilizer. The root mycorrhization (%) and the number of spores were observed highest in 75% chemical fertilizer + R. irregularis + A. chroococcum, and there was no mycorrhization and spore formation in 75% CF, 100% CF and 75% CF+AC. The treatment involving 75% chemical fertilizer + R. irregularis + A. chroococcum proved better for pepper’s growth, yield and yield-related traits.

Synergetic effects of microbial-phytoremediation reshape microbial communities and improve degradation of petroleum contaminants

Microbial-phytoremediation is an effective bioremediation technology that introduces petroleum-degrading bacteria and oil-tolerant plants into oil-contaminated soils in order to achieve effective degradation of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH). In this work, natural attenuation (NA), microbial remediation (MR, using Acinetobacter sp. Tust-DM21), phytoremediation (PR, using Suaeda glauca), and microbial-phytoremediation (MPR, using both species) were utilized to degrade petroleum hydrocarbons. We evaluated four different biological treatments, assessing TPH degradation rates, soil enzyme activities, and the structure of microbial community in the petroleum-contaminated soil. This finding revealed that the roots of Suaeda glauca adsorbed small amounts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, causing the structure of soil microbiota community to reshape. The abundance of petroleum-degrading bacteria and plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) has increased, as has microbial diversity. According to correlation research, these genera increased soil enzyme activity, boosted the number of degradation-functional genes in the petroleum hydrocarbon degradation pathway, and accelerated the dissipation and degradation of TPH in petroleum-contaminated soil. This evidence contributes to a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in the combined microbial-phytoremediation strategies for contaminated soil, specifically the interaction between microflora and plants in co-remediation and the effects on the structural reshaping of rhizosphere microbial communities.

Stimulating effects of reduced graphene oxide on the growth and nitrogen fixation activity of nitrogen-fixing bacterium Azotobacter chroococcum

Graphene has found important applications in various areas and hundred tons of graphene materials are annually produced. It is crucial to investigate both the negative and positive environmental effects of graphene materials to ensure the safe applications and develop environmental applications. In this study, we reported the stimulating effects of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) to nitrogen-fixing bacterium Azotobacter chroococcum. RGO stimulated the cell growth of A. chroococcum at 0.010-0.500 mg/mL according to the growth curves and the colony-forming unit (CFU) increases. RGO wrapped over the A. chroococcum cells without inducing ultrastructural changes. RGO decreased the leakage of cell membrane, but slight oxidative stress was observed in A. chroococcum. RGO promoted the nitrogen fixation activity of A. chroococcum at 0.5 mg/mL according to both isotope dilution method and acetylene reduction activity measurements. Consequently, the increases of soil nitrogen contents were evidenced, in particular about 30% increase of organic nitrogen occurred at 0.5 mg/mL of RGO. In addition, RGO might possibly benefit the plant growth through enhancing the indoleacetic acid production of A. chroococcum. These results highlighted the positive environmental effects of graphene materials to nitrogen-fixing bacteria in nitrogen cycle.

Characterization and diversity of native Azotobacter spp. isolated from semi-arid agroecosystems of Eastern Kenya

Declining food production in African agroecosystems is attributable to changes in weather patterns, soil infertility and limited farming inputs. The exploitation of plant growth-promoting soil microbes could remedy these problems. Such microbes include Azotobacter; free-living, nitrogen-fixing bacteria, which confer stress tolerance, avail phytohormones and aid in soil bioremediation. Here, we aimed to isolate, characterize and determine the biodiversity of native Azotobacter isolates from soils in semi-arid Eastern Kenya. Isolation was conducted on nitrogen-free Ashby's agar and the morphological, biochemical and molecular attributes evaluated. The isolates were sequenced using DNA amplicons of 27F and 1492R primers of the 16S rRNA gene loci. The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLASTn) analysis of their sequences revealed the presence of three main Azotobacter species viz., Azotobacter vinelandii, Azotobacter salinestris and Azotobacter tropicalis. Kitui County recorded the highest number of recovered Azotobacter isolates (45.4%) and lowest diversity index (0.8761). Tharaka Nithi County showed the lowest occurrence (26.36%) with a diversity index of (1.057). The diversity was influenced by the soil pH, texture and total organic content. This study reports for the first time a wide diversity of Azotobacter species from a semi-arid agroecosystem in Kenya with potential for utilization as low-cost, free-living nitrogen-fixing bioinoculant.

Improvement of Plant Responses by Nanobiofertilizer: A Step towards Sustainable Agriculture

Drastic changes in the climate and ecosystem due to natural or anthropogenic activities have severely affected crop production globally. This concern has raised the need to develop environmentally friendly and cost-effective strategies, particularly for keeping pace with the demands of the growing population. The use of nanobiofertilizers in agriculture opens a new chapter in the sustainable production of crops. The application of nanoparticles improves the growth and stress tolerance in plants. Inoculation of biofertilizers is another strategy explored in agriculture. The combination of nanoparticles and biofertilizers produces nanobiofertilizers, which are cost-effective and more potent and eco-friendly than nanoparticles or biofertilizers alone. Nanobiofertilizers consist of biofertilizers encapsulated in nanoparticles. Biofertilizers are the preparations of plant-based carriers having beneficial microbial cells, while nanoparticles are microscopic (1-100 nm) particles that possess numerous advantages. Silicon, zinc, copper, iron, and silver are the commonly used nanoparticles for the formulation of nanobiofertilizer. The green synthesis of these nanoparticles enhances their performance and characteristics. The use of nanobiofertilizers is more effective than other traditional strategies. They also perform their role better than the common salts previously used in agriculture to enhance the production of crops. Nanobiofertilizer gives better and more long-lasting results as compared to traditional chemical fertilizers. It improves the structure and function of soil and the morphological, physiological, biochemical, and yield attributes of plants. The formation and application of nanobiofertilizer is a practical step toward smart fertilizer that enhances growth and augments the yield of crops. The literature on the formulation and application of nanobiofertilizer at the field level is scarce. This product requires attention, as it can reduce the use of chemical fertilizer and make the soil and crops healthy. This review highlights the formulation and application of nanobiofertilizer on various plant species and explains how nanobiofertilizer improves the growth and development of plants. It covers the role and status of nanobiofertilizer in agriculture. The limitations of and future strategies for formulating effective nanobiofertilizer are mentioned.

Application of Psychrotolerant Antarctic Bacteria and Their Metabolites as Efficient Plant Growth Promoting Agents

Iron is the fourth most abundant element on earth. However, its low bioavailability is a key plant-growth limiting factor. Bacteria play an important role in plant growth promotion since they produce specific secondary metabolites that may increase macro- and micronutrient accessibility in soil. Therefore, bacterial-derived iron chelators, as well as surface-active compounds, are recognised as essential to plant welfare. In this study, three cold-active Antarctic bacterial strains, i.e. Pseudomonas sp. ANT_H12B, Psychrobacter sp. ANT_H59 and Bacillus sp. ANT_WA51, were analysed. The physiological and genomic characterisation of these strains revealed their potential for plant growth promotion, reflected in the production of various biomolecules, including biosurfactants (that may lower the medium surface tension of even up to 53%) and siderophores (including ANT_H12B-produced mixed-type siderophore that demonstrated the highest production, reaching the concentration of up to 1.065 mM), increasing the availability of nutrients in the environment and neutralising fungal pathogens. Tested bacteria demonstrated an ability to promote the growth of a model plant, alfalfa, increasing shoots’ length and fresh biomass even up to 26 and 46% respectively; while their metabolites increased the bioavailability of iron in soil up to 40%. It was also revealed that the introduced strains did not disrupt physicochemical conditions and indigenous soil microbial composition, which suggests that they are promising amendments preserving the natural biodiversity of soil and increasing its fertility.

Encapsulation of Azotobacter vinelandii ATCC 12837 in Alginate-Na Beads as a Tomato Seedling Inoculant

Encapsulation is an immobilization method characterized by restricting microbial cells to a delimited area while preserving their metabolic viability. This technique represents an alternative to improve the adaptive capacity of bacteria in the face of interactions with native microorganisms and environmental factors that limit their inoculation. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Azotobacter vinelandii ATCC 12837 encapsulated in alginate-Na beads as an inoculant of tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum L) seedlings. Two inoculation treatments were carried out: liquid and encapsulated, and the control without microorganisms. Physiological variables, microbial viability, and the presence of A. vinelandii were determined by qPCR. Inoculation with A. vinelandii in liquid and encapsulated form favored seedling growth. Plants with the encapsulated inoculum significantly increased germination percentage (20%), stem diameter (38%), seedling height (34%), root length (69%), NO₃ concentration (41%), and Na (30%); compared to the control. Encapsulation of A. vinelandii in alginate-Na macrocapsules allowed its establishment in the rhizosphere and was corroborated by viable count and molecular methods. The viability of the bacteria was maintained for 28 days using both inoculation methods, and not detected in the control treatment.

Analytical and regulatory considerations to mitigate highly hazardous toxins from environmental matrices

The ubiquitous occurrence, toxicological influence, and bioaccumulation of toxic entities, e.g., pesticides and toxic elements in the environment, biota, and humans, directly or indirectly, are posing severe social, ecological, and human health concerns. Much attention has been given to the rising bioaccumulation of toxins and their adverse impact on various environmental matrices. For example, the inappropriate and exacerbated use of xenobiotics and related hazardous substances have caused the deterioration of the agricultural environment, e.g., fertile soils where plants are grown. Moreover, the harmful toxins have negatively impacted human health through the trophic chains. However, the analytical and regulatory considerations to effectively monitor and mitigate any or many pesticides and toxic elements from environmental matrices are still lacking in the existing literature. For decades, the scientific community has overseen the consequences caused by pollutants, however, the improvement of analytical detection methods and regulatory considerations are not yet fully covered. This review covers the notable literature gap by stressing the development and deployment of robust analytical and regulatory considerations for an efficient abatement of hazardous substances. Following detailed information on occurrence, toxicological influence, and bioaccumulation of pesticides and toxic elements, the most relevant analytical detection tools and regulatory measures are given herein, with suitable examples, to mitigate or reduce the damage caused by these pollutants.

Fertilization and Soil Microbial Community: A Review

The present paper reviews the most recent advances regarding the effects of chemical and organic fertilizers on soil microbial communities. Based on the results from the articles considered, some details are presented on how the use of various types of fertilizers affects the composition and activity of soil microbial communities. Soil microbes have different responses to fertilization based on differences in the total carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) contents in the soil, along with soil moisture and the presence of plant species. These articles show that the use of chemical fertilizers changes the abundance of microbial populations and stimulates their growth thanks to the nutrient supply added. Overall, however, the data revealed that chemical fertilizers have no significant influence on the richness and diversity of the bacteria and fungi. Instead, the abundance of individual bacterial or fungal species was sensitive to fertilization and was mainly attributed to the changes in the soil chemical properties induced by chemical or organic fertilization. Among the negative effects of chemical fertilization, the decrease in enzymatic activity has been highlighted by several papers, especially in soils that have received the largest amounts of fertilizers together with losses in organic matter.

Growth, respiratory activity and chlorpyrifos biodegradation in cultures of Azotobacter vinelandii ATCC 12837

This study aimed to evaluate the growth, respiratory activity, and biodegradation of chlorpyrifos in cultures of Azotobacter vinelandii ATCC 12837. A strategy based on the modification of culture media and aeration conditions was carried out to increase the cell concentration of A. vinelandii, in order to favor and determine its tolerance to chlorpyrifos and its degradation ability. The culture in shaken flasks, using sucrose as a carbon source, significantly improved the growth compared to media with mannitol. When the strain was cultivated under oxygen-limited (5.5, 11.25 mmol L⁻¹ h⁻¹) and no-oxygen-limited conditions (22 mmol L⁻¹ h⁻¹), the growth parameters were not affected. In cultures in a liquid medium with chlorpyrifos, the bacteria tolerated a high pesticide concentration (500 ppm) and the growth parameters were improved even under conditions with a reduced carbon source (sucrose 2 g L⁻¹). The strain degraded 99.6% of chlorpyrifos at 60 h of cultivation, in co-metabolism with sucrose; notably, A. vinelandii ATCC 12837 reduced by 50% the initial pesticide concentration in only 6 h (DT₅₀).

Response of Indian gooseberry (Emblica officinalis Gaertn.) to Different Sources of Plant Nutrients

The Indian gooseberry is a monoecious tree and bears a unisexual flower where a high degree of cross-pollination is required for an ideal fruit set as well as better productivity. The fruit set, retention and yield in gooseberry depends on the nutritional and hormonal balance of the tree. The current work is based on the objective to estimate the fruit set, retention, sex ratio and yield in gooseberry after application of a recommended dose of fertilization (RDF) in association with farm yard manure (FYM) and biofertilizers (Azotobacter, Azospirillum and phosphate solubilizing bacteria). The maximum sex ratio was estimated in control (250.22 and 251.09) due to sufficient nitrogen fertilization. However, the highest fruit set, retention percent and yield per tree were reported with the treatment containing three-fourth of RDF in combination with Azotobacter, Azospirillum and PSB (phosphate solubilizing bacteria). Further, it was observed that about 25 to 50% replacement in RDF could be possible through biofertilizer application as a constant source of nutrients to trees.

Efecto de la aplicación de Azospirillum sp. y Azotobacter sp. sobre el crecimiento y productividad de kikuyo (Pennisetum clandestinum)

El uso de bacterias promotoras de crecimiento vegetal (BPCV), es considerada como una alternativa para sustituir los fertilizantes químicos, ya que favorece la productividad de las especies vegetales. El presente estudio evalúo el efecto de BPCV de los géneros Azospirillum sp. y Azotobacter sp. en el cultivo del Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyo), sobre altura de la planta, largo máximo de la hoja, largo de raíces, biomasa fresca y proteína total. La aplicación de las bacterias se realizó periódicamente sobre el cultivo, la primera inoculación fue luego del arado del terreno y posterior a ello cada 15 días, hasta el día 45. Los resultados muestran que Azospirillum sp. y Azotobacter sp. influyeron sobre el crecimiento y rendimiento de kikuyo. La aplicación de Azospirillium sp. mostró un incremento significativo en kikuyo sobre los parámetros altura de la planta y el largo de raíz, mientras Azotobacter sp. en la producción de biomasa fresca, largo de raíz y proteína total, por lo cual el uso de estos microorganismos benéficos podría ser de gran importancia en las actividades de producción de pasto para la ganadería, además de ser una alternativa para reducir el uso de productos químicos, con lo que se contribuiría a un mejor manejo de cultivos y al cuidado del medio ambiente.

Rhamnolipid Enhances the Nitrogen Fixation Activity of Azotobacter chroococcum by Influencing Lysine Succinylation

The enhancement of nitrogen fixation activity of diazotrophs is essential for safe crop production. Lysine succinylation (KSuc) is widely present in eukaryotes and prokaryotes and regulates various biological process. However, knowledge of the extent of KSuc in nitrogen fixation of Azotobacter chroococcum is scarce. In this study, we found that 250 mg/l of rhamnolipid (RL) significantly increased the nitrogen fixation activity of A. chroococcum by 39%, as compared with the control. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) confirmed that RL could remarkably increase the transcript levels of nifA and nifHDK genes. In addition, a global KSuc of A. chroococcum was profiled using a 4D label-free quantitative proteomic approach. In total, 5,008 KSuc sites were identified on 1,376 succinylated proteins. Bioinformatics analysis showed that the addition of RL influence on the KSuc level, and the succinylated proteins were involved in various metabolic processes, particularly enriched in oxidative phosphorylation, tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) cycle, and nitrogen metabolism. Meanwhile, multiple succinylation sites on MoFe protein (NifDK) may influence nitrogenase activity. These results would provide an experimental basis for the regulation of biological nitrogen fixation with KSuc and shed new light on the mechanistic study of nitrogen fixation.

Nitrogen Fixing Azotobacter Species as Potential Soil Biological Enhancers for Crop Nutrition and Yield Stability

Biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) refers to a microbial mediated process based upon an enzymatic "Nitrogenase" conversion of atmospheric nitrogen (N₂) into ammonium readily absorbable by roots. N₂-fixing microorganisms collectively termed as "diazotrophs" are able to fix biologically N₂ in association with plant roots. Specifically, the symbiotic rhizobacteria induce structural and physiological modifications of bacterial cells and plant roots into specialized structures called nodules. Other N₂-fixing bacteria are free-living fixers that are highly diverse and globally widespread in cropland. They represent key natural source of nitrogen (N) in natural and agricultural ecosystems lacking symbiotic N fixation (SNF). In this review, the importance of Azotobacter species was highlighted as both important free-living N₂-fixing bacteria and potential bacterial biofertilizer with proven efficacy for plant nutrition and biological soil fertility. In addition, we described Azotobacter beneficial plant promoting traits (e.g., nutrient use efficiency, protection against phytopathogens, phytohormone biosynthesis, etc.). We shed light also on the agronomic features of Azotobacter that are likely an effective component of integrated plant nutrition strategy, which contributes positively to sustainable agricultural production. We pointed out Azotobacter based-biofertilizers, which possess unique characteristics such as cyst formation conferring resistance to environmental stresses. Such beneficial traits can be explored profoundly for the utmost aim to research and develop specific formulations based on inoculant Azotobacter cysts. Furthermore, Azotobacter species still need to be wisely exploited in order to address specific agricultural challenges (e.g., nutrient deficiencies, biotic and abiotic constraints) taking into consideration several variables including their biological functions, synergies and multi-trophic interactions, and biogeography and abundance distribution.

Impact of metal-oxide nanoparticles on growth, physiology and yield of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) modulated by Azotobacter salinestris strain ASM

The current study for the first time demonstrates the interference of a free-living, N₂-fixing, and nanoparticle (NP) tolerant Azotobacter salinestris strain ASM recovered from metal-polluted soil with tomato plant-metal oxide NPs (ZnO, CuO, Al₂O_3, and TiO₂) interactions in a sandy clay loam soil system with bulk materials as control. Tomato plants were grown till full maturity in soils amended with 20-2000 mg kg^-1 of each metal-oxide NP with and without seed biopriming and root-inoculation of A. salinestris. A. salinestris was found metabolically active, producing considerably high amounts of bioactive indole-3-acetic-acid, morphologically unaffected, and with low alteration of cell membrane permeability under 125-1500 μgml^-1 of NPs. However, ZnO-NPs slightly alter bacterial membrane permeability. Besides, A. salinestris secreted significantly higher amounts of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) even under NP exposure, which could entrap the NPs and form metal-EPS complex as revealed and quantified by SEM-EDX. NPs were also found adsorbed on bacterial biomass. EPS stabilized the NPs and provided negative zeta potential to NPs. Following soil application, A. salinestris improved the plant performance and augmented the yield of tomato fruits and lycopene content even in NPs stressed soils. Interestingly, A. salinestris inoculation enhanced photosynthetic pigment formation, flower attributes, plant and fruit biomass, and reduced proline level. Bacterial inoculation also reduced the NP's uptake and accumulation significantly in vegetative organs and fruits. The organ wise order of NP's internalization was roots > shoots > fruits. Conclusively, A. salinestris inoculation could be an alternative to increase the production of tomato in metal-oxide NPs contaminated soils.

Efficiency of using biostimulants Agrinos 1 and Agrinos 2 in adaptation of microplants of garden strawberry to ex vitro conditions

This article presents the results of experimental studies of the effect of biostimulants Agrinos 1 and Agrinos 2, containing strains of microorganisms Azotobacter vinelandii and Clostridium pasteurinum, etc., as well as a complex of nutrients (macro-, microelements, protein, amino acids, chitin, chitosan) on the activation of metabolic processes and reduction of stress effects on strawberry plants obtained by in vitro method. The effectiveness of the reaction of biostimulants on the adaptive processes of growth and development of microplants of garden strawberry varieties Alba, Kemiya, Clery has been studied. In the course of the research, a positive effect of biological products on the growth of the vegetative mass of plants was established: an increase in the height of the plants compared to the control by 20-25%, the number of leaves by 25-28% and an increase in the root system of plants by 30-40%. In the Clery variety, the use of the biostimulants promoted the formation of the runners. In addition, the introduction of biostimulants into the soil contributed to the improvement of the quality indicators of the soil. The content of nitrate nitrogen in the soil increased by 18%.
