Silver nanoparticles biosynthesis using Saussurea costus root aqueous extract and catalytic degradation efficacy of safranin dye

Field emission scanning electron microscopic, X-ray diffraction and ultraviolet spectroscopic analysis of Terminalia bellerica based silver nanoparticles and evaluation of their antioxidant, catalytic and antibacterial activity

In recent years, scientists have come up with ways to make nanoparticles that are inexpensive and good for the environment. Terminalia bellerica-based silver nanoparticles (TBAgNPs) were made in this study using methanol extract from T. bellerica fruits. This method was quick, economical, and good for the environment. The biosynthesized TBAgNPs were used as antioxidants, antibacterial agents, and anti-catalytic agents. Analytical techniques like XRD, FESEM, and UV-Vis were used to find out more about the spherical TBAgNPs that were made. Also, Cefotaxime-resistant bacteria found in hospitals were used to test how well the TBAgNPs killed bacteria. With the Bauer-agar Kirby's gel diffusion and Mueller-Hinton broth methods, the ability of the synthesized TBAgNPs to stop bacterial growth was tested. After the TBAgNPs were studied, it was found that the average size of their crystals was between 10 and 25 nm. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) reducing tests showed that these AgNPs could act as antioxidants, and TBAgNPs (%inhibition = 20.90% to 94.94%) were better antioxidant than ascorbic acid (%inhibition = 13.80% to 86.10%) and extract (%inhibition = 16.90% to 80.50%). The reduction of methylene blue (MB) to leucomethylene blue (LMB) with sodium borohydride (NaBH₄) was used as a model to test the catalytic potential of TBAgNPs. On UV spectroscopic analysis at room temperature, TBAgNPs at different concentrations were able to reduce methylene blue effectively. For Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for TBAgNPs was 0.625 μg/mL and 1.25 μg/mL, respectively. Based on these results, silver nanoparticles made with Terminalia bellerica extract may have much biological importance and could be used in making useful therapeutic applications.

Green Synthesis of Bioinspired Nanoparticles Mediated from Plant Extracts of Asteraceae Family for Potential Biological Applications

The Asteraceae family is one of the largest families in the plant kingdom with many of them extensively used for significant traditional and medicinal values. Being a rich source of various phytochemicals, they have found numerous applications in various biological fields and have been extensively used for therapeutic purposes. Owing to its potential phytochemicals present and biological activity, these plants have found their way into pharmaceutical industry as well as in various aspects of nanotechnology such as green synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles. The nanoparticles developed from the plants of Asteraceae family are highly stable, less expensive, non-toxic, and eco-friendly. Synthesized Asteraceae-mediated nanoparticles have extensive applications in antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, and photocatalytic degradation activities. This current review provides an opportunity to understand the recent trend to design and develop strategies for advanced nanoparticles through green synthesis. Here, the review discussed about the plant parts, extraction methods, synthesis, solvents utilized, phytochemicals involved optimization conditions, characterization techniques, and toxicity of nanoparticles using species of Asteraceae and their potential applications for human welfare. Constraints and future prospects for green synthesis of nanoparticles from members of the Asteraceae family are summarized.

Aldehyde-mediated adaptive membranes with self-healing and antimicrobial properties for endometrial repair

Traditional treatment methods for irreversible endometrial damage face a number of challenges in clinical practice, the most important of which are bacterial infection and the inability to restore endometrial function. By modifying glucan, oxidized dextran (OD) with multifunctional aldehyde groups was obtained in this study. Based on the dynamic Schiff base reaction between gelatin (GA) and OD, a GA-OD adaptive membrane with good biocompatibility, self-healing, biodegradability, and antimicrobial properties was created. In vitro studies revealed that GA and OD cross-linking overcame GA's low gel temperature, accelerated gelling, and improved mechanical properties, hydrophilicity, and degradability. The dynamic bond formed by the reaction between GA and OD caused the GA-OD film to self-heal. Meanwhile, the GA-OD membrane had antibacterial properties. To assess the repair effect of GA-OD film, an in vivo rat endometrial injury model filled with GA-OD adaptive membrane was created. According to the results of the study, the GA-OD membrane was biocompatible, and the uterine tissue did not have edema and inflammation. Further study on the postoperative endometrial regeneration effect of GA-OD material showed that it had an excellent ability for epithelial reconstruction and cell proliferation. As a result, the use of GA-OD composite film in endometrial repair has promising therapeutic implications.

Valorization of agro-industrial biowaste to green nanomaterials for wastewater treatment: Approaching green chemistry and circular economy principles

Water pollution is one of the most critical issues worldwide and is a priority in all scientific agendas. Green nanotechnology presents a plethora of promising avenues for wastewater treatment. This review discusses the current trends in the valorization of zero-cost, biodegradable, and readily available agro-industrial biowaste to produce green bio-nanocatalysts and bio-nanosorbents for wastewater treatment. The promising roles of green bio-nanocatalysts and bio-nanosorbents in removing organic and inorganic water contaminants are discussed. The potent antimicrobial activity of bio-derived nanodisinfectants against water-borne pathogenic microbes is reviewed. The bioactive molecules involved in the chelation and tailoring of green synthesized nanomaterials are highlighted along with the mechanisms involved. Furthermore, this review emphasizes how the valorization of agro-industrial biowaste to green nanomaterials for wastewater treatment adheres to the fundamental principles of green chemistry, circular economy, nexus thinking, and zero-waste manufacturing. The potential economic, environmental, and health impacts of valorizing agro-industrial biowaste to green nanomaterials are highlighted. The challenges and future outlooks for the management of agro-industrial biowaste and safe application of green nanomaterials for wastewater treatment are summarized.
