Abstract
PURPOSE With the global epidemic of obesity, the importance of metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is greater than ever before. Performing these surgeries requires academic training and the completion of a dedicated fellowship training program. This study aimed to develop guidelines based on expert consensus using a modified Delphi method to create the criteria for metabolic and bariatric surgeons that must be mastered before obtaining privileges to perform MBS. METHODS Eighty-nine recognized MBS surgeons from 42 countries participated in the Modified Delphi consensus to vote on 30 statements in two rounds. An agreement/disagreement among ≥ 70.0% of the experts was regarded to indicate a consensus. RESULTS Consensus was reached on 29 out of 30 statements. Most experts agreed that before getting privileges to perform MBS, surgeons must hold a general surgery degree and complete or have completed a dedicated fellowship training program. The experts agreed that the learning curves for the various operative procedures are approximately 25-50 operations for the LSG, 50-75 for the OAGB, and 75-100 for the RYGB. 93.1% of experts agreed that MBS surgeons should diligently record patients' data in their National or Global database. CONCLUSION MBS surgeons should have a degree in general surgery and have been enrolled in a dedicated fellowship training program with a structured curriculum. The learning curve of MBS procedures is procedure dependent. MBS surgeons must demonstrate proficiency in managing postoperative complications, collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, commit to a minimum 2-year patient follow-up, and actively engage in national and international MBS societies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) database collects data from all accredited centers in the US. A prior study showed data quality issues limiting use of up to 20% of the 2015 database. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the completeness and data quality (internal validity, accuracy, and consistency) of the MBSAQIP database between 2015 and 2019. SETTING United States. METHODS All subsets of data from the MBSAQIP Participant User Data File (PUDF) were compiled into one main file. Completeness, internal validity, accuracy, and consistency were evaluated. Completeness was determined via missing values. Internal validity was assessed using the percentage of patients with a body mass index (BMI) < 30 kg/m2 who underwent primary bariatric surgery. Accuracy was evaluated using reported versus calculated BMI. Consistency was assessed using the percentage of patients with a gain of >5 or a loss of >20 units of BMI change in 30 days. Effects across years were assessed using a chi-squared test. RESULTS Missing data for age, BMI, and ASA was consistently low (<2.5%) with no significant difference across years. Only .02% of patients who underwent a primary bariatric procedure had a reported BMI <30 kg/m2. The mean difference between reported versus calculated BMI was -.02 units. A maximum of .33% of patients gained >5 units of BMI, and a maximum of .85% of patients lost > 20 units of BMI in early follow-up. CONCLUSIONS While the MBSAQIP is a database with acceptable data quality and minimal changes from 2015-2019, ongoing efforts are needed to improve data.

Abstract
This collaborative European Academy of Plastic Surgery (EAFPS) study aimed to provide an overview of rhinoplasty practices, informing clinician and patient decision making. It is a multicenter cross-sectional study, reported as per Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology guidelines. All EAFPS members were contacted via email, inviting them to participate. Members expressing an interest to participate were asked to anonymously complete a questionnaire, related to rhinoplasties that they performed as first/supervising surgeon over a period from January 1, 2019 to January 1, 2022. A descriptive analysis was performed. One hundred and fifteen surgeons submitted data on 41,259 rhinoplasties from 33 countries. Eighty percent of rhinoplasties were primary, and 20% were secondary. Thirty five percent of primary rhinoplasties were closed and 65% were open. Thirty one percent of primary rhinoplasties were for cosmetic indications, 11% functional and 58% were for both. Of the 8147 secondary rhinoplasties, 44% were closed and 56% were open. Thirty percent were for cosmetic indications, 11% functional, and 59% for both cosmetic and functional. Ninety-one percent of rhinoplasties were performed by ENT surgeons, 3% by plastic surgeons, 5% by maxillofacial surgeons, and 1% were dual (maxillofacial and ENT) trained. One-thousand seven-hundred thirty primary rhinoplasties underwent revision surgery (5%) and 102 secondary rhinoplasties underwent revision surgery (1%). The most commonly reported indications for revision surgery were dorsal asymmetry, nasal blockage, and dissatisfaction with nasal tip. Three percent of rhinoplasties underwent preoperative psychological assessment. To the authors knowledge, this is the largest published rhinoplasty dataset. This study provides an overview of rhinoplasty practices that can be used for benchmarking and to guide clinician and patient decision making. Psychological assessment of prerhinoplasty appears insufficient with higher levels recommended to minimize unsuccessful outcomes. This study showcases the power of collaborative research and may serve as a catalyst for future collaborative facial plastic surgery research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The length of a patient's stay (LOS) in a hospital is one metric used to compare the quality of care, as a longer LOS may flag higher complication rates or less efficient processes. A meaningful comparison of LOS can only occur if the expected average length of stay (ALOS) is defined first. This study aimed to define the expected ALOS of primary and conversion bariatric surgery in Australia and to quantify the effect of patient, procedure, system, and surgeon factors on ALOS. METHODS This was a retrospective observational study of prospectively maintained data from the Bariatric Surgery Registry of 63 604 bariatric procedures performed in Australia. The primary outcome measure was the expected ALOS for primary and conversion bariatric procedures. The secondary outcome measures quantified the change in ALOS for bariatric surgery resulting from patient, procedure, hospital, and surgeon factors. RESULTS Uncomplicated primary bariatric surgery had an ALOS (SD) of 2.30 (1.31) days, whereas conversion procedures had an ALOS (SD) of 2.71 (2.75) days yielding a mean difference (SEM) in ALOS of 0.41 (0.05) days, P < 0.001. The occurrence of any defined adverse event extended the ALOS of primary and conversion procedures by 1.14 days (CI 95% 1.04-1.25), P < 0.001 and 2.33 days (CI 95% 1.54-3.11), P < 0.001, respectively. Older age, diabetes, rural home address, surgeon operating volume and hospital case volume increased the ALOS following bariatric surgery. CONCLUSIONS Our findings have defined Australia's expected ALOS following bariatric surgery. Increased patient age, diabetes, rural living, procedural complications and surgeon and hospital case volume exerted a small but significant increase in ALOS. Abstract
Patient surgical registries are essential tools for public health specialists, creating research opportunities through linkage of registry data with healthcare outcomes. However, little is known regarding data error sources in the management of surgical registries. In June 2022, we undertook a scoping study of the empirical literature including publications selected from the PUBMED and EMBASE databases. We selected 48 studies focussing on shared experiences centred around developing surgical patient registries. We identified seven types of data specific challenges, grouped in three categories- data capture, data analysis and result dissemination. Most studies underlined the risk for a high volume of missing data, non-uniform geographic representation, inclusion biases, inappropriate coding, as well as variations in analysis reporting and limitations related to the statistical analysis. Finally, to expand data usability, we discussed cost-effective ways of addressing these limitations, by citing aspects from the protocols followed by established exemplary registries.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bariatric surgery (BS) is a relatively novel surgical field and is in continuous expansion and evolution. PURPOSE Aim of this study was to report changes in Italian surgical practice in the last decade. METHODS The Società Italiana di Chirurgia dell'Obesità (SICOB) conducted annual surveys to cense activity of SICOB centers between 2011 and 2021. Primary outcome was to detect differences in frequency of performance of adjustable gastric banding (AGB), sleeve gastrectomy (SG), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), bilio-pancreatic diversion (BPD), and gastric plication (GP). Secondary outcome was to detect differences in performance of main non-malabsorptive procedures (AGB + SG) and overall bypass procedures (RYGB + OAGB). Geographical differences were also investigated. RESULTS Median response rate was 92%. AGB declined from 36% of procedures in 2011 to 5% in 2021 (p < 0.0001). SG increased from 30% in 2011 to 55% in 2021 (p < 0.0001). RYGB declined from 25 to 12% of procedures (p < 0.0001). OAGB rose from 0% of procedures in 2011 to 15% in 2021 (p < 0.0001). BPD underwent decrease from 6.2 to 0.2% in 2011 and 2021, respectively (p < 0.0001). Main non-malabsorptive procedures significantly decreased while overall bypass procedures remained stable. There were significant differences among regions in performance of SG, RYGB, and OAGB. CONCLUSIONS BS in Italy evolved significantly during the past 10 years. AGB underwent a decline, as did BPD and GP which are disappearing and RYGB which is giving way to OAGB. The latter is rising and is the second most-performed procedure after SG which has been confirmed as the preferred procedure by Italian bariatric surgeons.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is a gold-standard procedure for treatment of obesity and associated comorbidities. No consensus on the optimal design of this operation has been achieved, with various lengths of bypassed small bowel limb lengths being used by bariatric surgeons. This aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine whether biliopancreatic limb (BPL) length in RYGB affects postoperative outcomes including superior reduction in weight, body mass index (BMI), and resolution of metabolic comorbidities associated with obesity. METHODS A systematic search of the literature was conducted up until 1st June 2021. Meta-analysis of primary outcomes was performed utilising a random-effects model. Statistical significance was determined by p value < 0.05. RESULTS Ten randomised controlled trials were included in the final quantitative analysis. No difference in outcomes following short versus long BLP in RYGB was identified at 12-72 months post-operatively, namely in BMI reduction, remission or improvement of type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, and complications (p > 0.05). Even though results of four studies showed superior total body weight loss in the long BPL cohorts at 24 months post-operatively (pooled mean difference -6.92, 95% CI -12.37, -1.48, p = 0.01), this outcome was not observed at any other timepoint. CONCLUSION Based on the outcomes of the present study, there is no definitive evidence to suggest that alteration of the BPL affects the quantity of weight loss or resolution of co-existent metabolic comorbidities associated with obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bariatric surgery is an established treatment for severe obesity; however, fewer than 1 per cent of eligible patients undergo surgery. The perceived risk of surgery may contribute to the low uptake. The aim of this study was to determine perioperative mortality associated with bariatric surgery, comparing different operation types and data sources. METHODS A literature search of Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials was conducted to identify studies published between 1 January 2014 and 31 July 2020. Inclusion criteria were studies of at least 1000 patients reporting short-term mortality after bariatric surgery. Data were collected on RCTs. Meta-analysis was performed to establish overall mortality rates across different study types. The primary outcome measure was perioperative mortality. Different operation types were compared, along with study type, in subgroup analyses. The study was registered at PROSPERO (2019: CRD 42019131632). RESULTS Some 4356 articles were identified and 58 met the inclusion criteria. Data were available on over 3.6 million patients. There were 4707 deaths. Pooled analysis showed an overall mortality rate of 0.08 (95 per cent c.i. 0.06 to 0.10; 95 per cent prediction interval 0 to 0.21) per cent. In subgroup analysis, there was no statistically significant difference between overall, 30-day, 90-day or in-hospital mortality (P = 0.29). There was no significant difference in reported mortality for RCTs, large studies, national databases or registries (P = 0.60). The pooled mortality rates by procedure type in ascending order were: 0.03 per cent for gastric band, 0.05 per cent for sleeve gastrectomy, 0.09 per cent for one-anastomosis gastric bypass, 0.09 per cent for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, and 0.41 per cent for duodenal switch (P < 0.001 between operations). CONCLUSION Bariatric surgery is safe, with low reported perioperative mortality rates.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Duodenal switch (DS) still comprises less than 1% of the overall primary procedures in the United States. Our aim is to explore the reasons behind surgeons' reluctance to DS adoption. OBJECTIVES To determine perceived reasons for the widespread lack of adoption of the DS. SETTING Worldwide survey of closed bariatric surgery social media groups. METHODS A standardized questionnaire was posted on 2 closed social media bariatric groups. DS was used as an umbrella term that includes traditional BPD with duodenal switch, single anastomosis duodeno-ileostomy (SADI) and loop DS. The questionnaire link was accessible to bariatric surgeons only for a period of 1 week. RESULTS Survey responses (n = 193) were analyzed. The majority (75%) were fellowship-trained bariatric surgeons, and 58% were practicing in the United States. Although 72.9% believed DS to be a good bariatric procedure, it was not being performed by 64% of the respondents. The main reasons behind DS nonadoption included a perceptible high long-term complication rate (43.5%), lack of training (38.1%), and procedure seldomly demanded by patients (31.5%). For surgeons who perform DS, 16.4% use it as a revisional procedure, mainly following sleeve gastrectomy (40.5%). Finally, 29.5% of surgeons believed that the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery endorsement of SADI will encourage them to add DS to their practice. They are mostly planning to do so by visiting other surgeons and getting proctored (42.6%). CONCLUSION This survey will help guide bariatric societies and governing bodies in addressing the issues and concerns preventing surgeons from adopting DS in their practice by elucidating the chief reasons and circumstances behind this occurrence.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine whether sleeve gastrectomy (SG) or Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) should be the optimal choice in patients stratified by diabetes duration and body mass index (BMI) level. METHODS Classification tree analysis was performed to identify the influential factors for surgical procedure selection in real setting. Meta-analyses stratified by influential factors were conducted to compare the complete diabetes remission rates between SG and RYGB. The cost-effectiveness analysis was performed when results from meta-analysis remain uncertain. RESULTS Among 3198 bariatric procedures in China, 824 (73%) SGs and 191 (17%) RYGBs were performed in patients with T2DM. Diabetes duration with a cutoff value of 5 years and BMI level with 35.5 kg/m2 were identified as the influential factors. For patients with diabetes duration > 5 years, RYGB showed a significant higher complete diabetes remission rate than SG at 1 year: 0.52 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.46-0.58) versus 0.36 (95% CI: 0.30-0.42). For patients with diabetes duration ≤ 5 years and BMI ≥ 35.5 kg/m2, there was no significant difference between 2 procedures: 0.57 (95% CI: 0.43-0.71) for SG versus 0.66 (95% CI: 0.62-0.70) for RYGB. The cost-effectiveness ratios of SG and RYGB were 244.58 and 276.97 dollars per QALY, respectively. CONCLUSIONS For patients with diabetes duration > 5 years, RYGB was the optimal choice with regard to achieving complete diabetes remission at 1 year after surgery. However, for patients with diabetes duration ≤ 5 years and BMI ≥ 35.5 kg/m2, SG appeared to provide a cost-effective choice.

Abstract
Introduction Pooling population-based data from all national bariatric registries may provide international real-world evidence for outcomes that will help establish a universal standard of care, provided that the same variables and definitions are used. Therefore, this study aims to assess the concordance of variables across national registries to identify which outcomes can be used for international collaborations. Methods All 18 countries with a national bariatric registry who contributed to The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) Global Registry report 2019 were requested to share their data dictionary by email. The primary outcome was the percentage of perfect agreement for variables by domain: patient, prior bariatric history, screening, operation, complication, and follow-up. Perfect agreement was defined as 100% concordance, meaning that the variable was registered with the same definition across all registries. Secondary outcomes were defined as variables having “substantial agreement” (75–99.9%) and “moderate agreement” (50–74.9%) across registries. Results Eleven registries responded and had a total of 2585 recorded variables that were grouped into 250 variables measuring the same concept. A total of 25 (10%) variables have a perfect agreement across all domains: 3 (18.75%) for the patient domain, 0 (0.0%) for prior bariatric history, 5 (8.2%) for screening, 6 (11.8%) for operation, 5 (8.8%) for complications, and 6 (11.8%) for follow-up. Furthermore, 28 (11.2%) variables have substantial agreement and 59 (23.6%) variables have moderate agreement across registries. Conclusion There is limited uniform agreement in variables across national bariatric registries. Further alignment and uniformity in collected variables are required to enable future international collaborations and comparison. Graphical abstract ![]()

Abstract
Metabolic and bariatric surgery has grown beyond 'experimental' weight-loss surgery. As techniques have advanced over the last few decades, so has the growing body of research and evidence, proving that both weight-loss and metabolic health improvement are induced. Metabolic surgery has become the more appropriate term for weight-loss surgery because of the altered gastrointestinal anatomy and subsequent beneficial metabolic effects. Although the tool of metabolic surgery has been well refined, a large portion of the global population does not have adequate access to it. This clinical update aims to (a) inform healthcare providers from all disciplines about the myriad of benefits of metabolic surgery and (b) equip them with the necessary knowledge to bridge the gap between patients in need of metabolic treatment and the therapies in metabolic surgery available to them.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to assess outcomes of bariatric surgical procedures after the implementation of an enhanced recovery after bariatric surgery protocol in the National Bariatric Centre in Ireland. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data on consecutive bariatric procedures performed over a 36-month period was prospectively recorded. ERABS interventions utilized included preoperative counselling, shortened preoperative fasts, specific anaesthetic protocols, early postop mobilization and feeding, and extended post-discharge thromboprophylaxis. RESULTS A total of 280 primary bariatric procedures were performed over a 36-month period. The primary procedures were laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (57.5%), laparoscopic one anastomosis gastric bypass (33.2%) and laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (9.3%). Mean (SD) age was 48 (± 10) years, mean (SD) preoperative BMI 49.5 (± 9) kg/m2 and 68% were female. Median ASA score was 3, and median OSMRS also 3. Over 50% of patients had a diagnosis of hypertension or OSA, and over one-third had a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus or dyslipidemia. All procedures were completed laparoscopically and 29 patients underwent a simultaneous procedure. The mean (SD) length of stay was 2.3 (± 1.4) days (median 2 days, range 2-47 days). Overall postoperative morbidity rate was 10.0% (n = 29). The 30-day readmission and reoperation rates were 3.6% and 2.5% respectively. There was no mortality recorded in this series. CONCLUSION Implementing an ERABS protocol was feasible, safe, associated with low morbidity, no mortality, acceptable LOS and low readmission and reoperation rates. Although patients with obesity have a spectrum of disease-related complications, this should not preclude the use of an ERABS protocol in bariatric surgery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to compare the use and short-term outcome of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) in Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands. BACKGROUND Although bariatric surgery is performed in high volumes worldwide, no consensus exists regarding the choice of bariatric procedure for specific groups of patients. METHODS Data from 3 national registries for bariatric surgery were used. Patient selection, perioperative data (severe complications, mortality, and rate of readmissions within 30 days), and 1-year results (follow-up rate and weight loss) were studied. RESULTS A total of 47,101 primary operations were registered, 33,029 (70.1%) RYGB and 14,072 (29.9%) SG. Patients receiving RYGB met international guidelines for having bariatric surgery more often than those receiving SG (91.9% vs 83,0%, P < 0.001). The 2 procedures did not differ in the rate of severe complications (2.6% vs 2.4%, P = 0.382), nor 30-day mortality (0.04% vs 0.03%, P = 0.821). Readmission rates were higher after RYGB (4.3% vs 3.4%, P < 0.001).One-year post surgery, less RYGB-patients were lost-to follow-up (12.1% vs 16.5%, P < 0.001) and RYGB resulted in a higher rate of patients with total weight loss of more than 20% (95.8% vs 84.6%, P < 0.001). While the weight-loss after RYGB was similar between hospitals, there was a great variation in weight loss after SG. CONCLUSION This study reflects the pragmatic use and short-term outcome of RYGB and SG in 3 countries in North-Western Europe. Both procedures were safe, with RYGB having higher weight loss and follow-up rates at the cost of a slightly higher 30-day readmission rate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The "perfect" bariatric procedure remains the topic of debate. The aim of this study is to compare the safety and outcome of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) to those of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and adjustable gastric band (AGB) in a single centre, amongst those patients who made their own choice of which procedure they prefer. METHODS After the multi-disciplinary team's assessment, the patients could make their own choice of procedures (self-selected, SS), unless medical/surgical conditions limited this (medically restricted, MR). All consecutive primary bariatric procedures were involved and reviewed between June 2010 and September 2014. The primary outcomes included 30-day complication and readmission rates, excess weight loss (%EWL) and co-morbidity resolution at 24 months postoperatively. RESULTS A total of 303 patients were included and 271 of them made their own choice (SS 90%). One hundred eighty-three chose LRYGB (60.4%), and 57 underwent LSG (SS 45 and MR 12; overall 18.8%), with the initial BMI of 50.7 and 52.5 kg/m2, respectively. Sixty-two patients (SS 43, MR 19, overall 20%) underwent AGB, with a BMI of 52.1 kg/m2. Thirty-day complication rates for LRYGB and LSG were 10.2 and 2.9% (p < 0.05), and the readmission rates were 4.7 and 2.9%, respectively. %EWL for LRYGB was significantly higher than that of other procedures at 24 months (67.8 vs SS-sleeve 43.9%, MR-sleeve 47%, SS-band 33.8% and MR-band 36%; FU rate 94%). Diabetes remission was achieved in 31/50 patients in the LRYGB group (62%) and 2/9 patients (22%) in the LSG group. CONCLUSIONS Self-selected bariatric procedures yield excellent weight loss and metabolic outcome. Providing an information-dense environment augments the choice of the right operation and could improve patients' compliance with weight loss surgery programmes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In the Netherlands, the number of bariatric procedures increased exponentially in the 90s. To ensure and improve the quality of bariatric surgery, the nationwide Dutch Audit for Treatment of Obesity (DATO) was established in 2014. The audit was coordinated by the Dutch Institute for Clinical Auditing (DICA). This article provides a review of the aforementioned process in establishing a nationwide registry in the Netherlands. MATERIALS AND METHODS In collaboration with the DATO's scientific committee and other stakeholders, an annual list of several external quality indicators was formulated. This list consists of volume, process, and outcome indicators. In addition to the annual external indicators, the database permits individual hospitals to analyze their own data. The dashboard provides several standardized reports and detailed quality indicators, which are updated on a weekly base. RESULTS Since the start, all 18 Dutch bariatric centers participated in the nationwide audit. A total of 21,941 cases were registered between 2015 and 2016. By 2016, the required variables were registered in 94.3% of all cases. A severe complicated course was seen in 2.87%, and mortality in 0.05% in 2016. The first-year follow-up shows a > 20% TWL in 86.1% of the registered cases. DISCUSSION The DATO has become rapidly a mature registry. The well-organized structure of the national audit institution DICA and governmental funding were essential. However, most important were the bariatric teams themselves. The authors believe reporting the results from the registry has already contributed to more knowledge and acceptance by other health care providers.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The regulation of surgical implants is vital to patient safety, and there is an international drive to establish registries for all implants. Hearing loss is an area of unmet need, and industry is targeting this field with a growing range of surgically implanted hearing devices. Currently, there is no comprehensive UK registry capturing data on these devices; in its absence, it is difficult to monitor safety, practices and effectiveness. A solution is developing a national registry of all auditory implants. However, developing and maintaining a registry faces considerable challenges. In this systematic review, we aimed to identify the essential features of a successful surgical registry. METHODS A systematic literature review was performed adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis recommendations. A comprehensive search of the Medline and Embase databases was conducted in November 2016 using the Ovid Portal. Inclusion criteria were: publications describing the design, development, critical analysis or current status of a national surgical registry. All registry names identified in the screening process were noted and searched in the grey literature. Available national registry reports were reviewed from registry websites. Data were extracted using a data extraction table developed by thematic analysis. Extracted data were synthesised into a structured narrative. RESULTS Sixty-nine publications were included. The fundamentals to successful registry development include: steering committee to lead and oversee the registry; clear registry objectives; planning for initial and long-term funding; strategic national collaborations among key stakeholders; dedicated registry management team; consensus meetings to agree registry dataset; established data processing systems; anticipating challenges; and implementing strategies to increase data completion. Patient involvement and awareness of legal factors should occur throughout the development process. CONCLUSIONS This systematic review provides robust knowledge that can be used to inform the successful development of any UK surgical registry. It also provides a methodological framework for international surgical registry development.
