Abstract
Curcumin is the main colorant of the curcuma longa plant, a food with many benefits for human health. This work aims to synthesize a novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for the selective detection of curcumin in real samples obtained from the local market of Peru. MIPs were synthesized via bulk polymerization using curcumin, acrylamide, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, ABCV, and acetonitrile. FTIR spectra showed equal spectra for MIP and NIP. N2 physisorption analysis presented a higher value BET surface for the MIP (28.5 m2 g-1) compared to the NIP (18.5 m2 g-1). The adsorption capacity of the MIP was evaluated using UV-vis spectrophotometry in the band around 430 nm. The adsorption kinetics found were of pseudo-second-order and a Qe value of 16.2 mg g-1. Furthermore, the adsorption process resembles the Freundlich adsorption model with a heterogeneity factor of less than 1 (0.61) and Kf greater for MIP (1.97). The selectivity test indicated that MIP is more selective for curcumin (Q = 13.20 mg g-1) than against interferents (Q = 2.19 mg g-1). The specific selectivity factor (S) obtained for the interferents was greater than 1 which indicates a good selectivity. Finally, the application of MIP in real samples using UV-vis spectrophotometry yielded a recovery value greater than 70%.

Abstract
Applications of analytical quality by design (QbD) approach for developing HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) methods for food components assays, and separations of complex natural product mixtures, are still limited. The current study developed and validated, for the first time, a stability-indicating HPLC method for simultaneous determinations of curcuminoids in Curcuma longa extracts, tablets, capsules, and curcuminoids' forced degradants under different experimental conditions. Towards separation strategy, critical method parameters (CMPs) were defined as the mobile phase solvents' percent-ratio, the pH of the mobile phase, and the stationary-phase column temperature, while the peaks resolution, retention time, and the number of theoretical plates were recognized as the critical method attributes (CMAs). Factorial experimental designs were used for method development, validation, and robustness evaluation of the procedure. The Monte Carlo simulation evaluated the developing method's operability, and that ensured the concurrent detections of curcuminoids in natural extracts, commercial-grade pharmaceutical dosage-forms, and the forced degradants of the curcuminoids in a single mixture. The optimum separations were accomplished using the mobile phase, consisting of an acetonitrile-phosphate buffer (54:46 v/v, 0.1 mM) with 1.0 mL/min flow rate, 33 °C column temperature, and 385 nm wavelength for UV (Ultra Violet) spectral detections. The method is specific, linear (R2 ≥ 0.999), precise (% RSD < 1.67%), and accurate (% recovery 98.76-99.89%), with LOD (Limit of Detection) and LOQ (Limit of Quantitation) at 0.024 and 0.075 µg/mL for the curcumin, 0.0105 µg/mL and 0.319 µg/mL for demethoxycurcumin, and 0.335 µg/mL and 1.015 µg/mL for the bisdemethoxycurcumin, respectively. The method is compatible, robust, precise, reproducible, and accurately quantifies the composition of the analyte mixture. It exemplifies the use of the QbD approach in acquiring design details for developing an improved analytical detection and quantification method.

Abstract
Abstract:
Food forensics is an emerging branch that applies scientific knowledge for the verification
and authentication of food supplements. The term “dietary supplement” refers to a diverse
set of preparations that are deemed to be essential for the well-being of the human body.
These supplements consist of various physiologically active substances that produce effects on
the body. However, a major issue with these supplements is that they are neither considered as
medicines nor as a food products. Due to this, such food supplements are prone to adulteration
and counterfeiting. In this review, three widely used supplements, namely Curcuma longa,
Withania somnifera, and Garcinia cambogia supplements, are considered. Chemistry, pharmacology,
and benefits of three are being discussed along with the analytical techniques for their
analysis. Chromatographic techniques are popular for the examination of dietary supplements.
Several such analytical techniques are being used to detect and identify the physiologically active
constituents as well as adulterants in dietary products. This review intends to demonstrate
the overall issues regarding dietary supplements.

Abstract
Nowadays due to the concern with the environmental impact of analytical techniques and in order to reduce the ecological footprint there is a tendency to use more efficient and faster procedures that use a smaller amount of organic solvents. Polyphenols have been widely studied in plant-based matrices due to their wide and potent biological properties; however there are no standardized procedures both for sample preparation and analysis of these compounds. The second of a two-part review will carry out a critical review of the extraction procedures and analytical methods applied to polyphenols and their selection criteria over a wide range of factors in relation to commerce-associated, environmental, and economic factors. It is foreseen that in the future the analysis of polyphenols in plant-based matrices includes the use of techniques that allow the simultaneous determination of different subclasses of polyphenols using fast, sophisticated, and automated techniques that allow the minimal consumption of solvents.
