Abstract
A novel protocol for the transition metal-free 1,2-addition of polyfluoroaryl boronate esters to aldehydes and ketones is reported, which provides secondary alcohols, tertiary alcohols, and ketones. Control experiments and DFT calculations indicate that both the ortho-F substituents on the polyfluorophenyl boronates and the counterion K+ in the carbonate base are critical. The distinguishing features of this procedure include the employment of commercially available starting materials and the broad scope of the reaction with a wide variety of carbonyl compounds giving moderate to excellent yields. Intriguing structural features involving O-H⋅⋅⋅O and O-H⋅⋅⋅N hydrogen bonding, as well as arene-perfluoroarene interactions, in this series of racemic polyfluoroaryl carbinols have also been addressed.

Abstract
C3-selective C-C bond formation on benzothiophenes is challenging, and few direct functionalization methods are available. A gold-catalyzed reaction of alkynes with benzothiophene S-oxides provides regioselective entry into C3-alkylated benzothiophenes with the C7-alkylated isomer as the minor product. This oxyarylation reaction works with alkyl and aryl alkynes and substituted and unsubstituted benzothiophenes. Mechanistic studies identify that sulfoxide inhibits the catalyst [DTBPAu(PhCN)]SbF6, which also degrades and forms the unreactive complex [(DTBP)2Au]SbF6.

Abstract
We report a novel strategy to prepare valuable nitriles and ketones through the conversion of esters under metal-free conditions. By using the I2/PCl3 system, various substrates including aliphatic and aromatic esters could react with acetonitrile and arenes to afford the desired products in good to excellent yields. This method is compatible with a number of functional groups and provides a simple and practical approach for the synthesis of nitrile compounds and aryl ketones.

Abstract
Di(hetero)aryl ketones are important motifs present in natural products, pharmaceuticals or agrochemicals. In recent years, Pd(II)-catalyzed acylation of (hetero)arenes in the presence of an oxidant has emerged as a catalytic alternative to classical acylation methods, reducing the production of toxic metal waste. Different directing groups and acyl sources are being studied for this purpose, although further development is required to face mainly selectivity problems in order to be applied in the synthesis of more complex molecules. Selected recent developments and applications are covered in this review.

Abstract

Abstract
A mild and efficient palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative ortho-aroylation of N-acetyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines with α-oxoarylacetic acids via C–H bond activation is described. This protocol provides access to a series of C8-aroyl terahydroquinolines.
