Abstract
The C2- or C3-selective direct C-H arylation of nonsubstituted 1H-pyrrole with aryl chlorides/nonaflates was achieved using catalysts derived from palladium and appropriate phosphine ligands. The site selectivity of the arylation can be switched by changing the ligands, and the C3-selective arylation of nonsubstituted 1H-pyrrole was realized for the first time. tBuOLi played an important role in suppressing N-arylation and accelerating C2- or C3-arylation.

Abstract
Herein, we report the Pd(II)-catalyzed direct C-H arylation of pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives with aryl iodides, which is enabled by bidentate pyridine-pyridine ligands. A range of aryl iodides proved to be suitable coupling partners affording the desired products in good yields with high levels of C6 selectivity. This protocol features good tolerance of reactive functional groups, mild reaction conditions, and a simple reaction system, which provides an expeditious route to an essential class of 6-arylpyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidines frequently found in bioactive compounds, and provides a step-economical access to the second-generation EGFR inhibitor AEE-788.

Abstract
Abstract:
Abstract: This unprecedented review with 322 references provides a critical up-to-date picture of the Pd-catalysed intermolecular direct C–H bond arylation of heteroarenes with arylating reagents alternative to aryl halides that include aryl sulfonates (aryl triflates, tosylates, mesylates, and imidazole-1-sulfonates), diaryliodonium salts, [(diacetoxy)iodo]arenes, arenediazonium salts, 1-aryltriazenes, arylhydrazines and N’-arylhydrazides, arenesulfonyl chlorides, sodium arenesulfinates, arenesulfinic acids, and arenesulfonohydrazides. Particular attention has been paid to summarise the preparation of the various arylating reagents and to highlight the practicality, versatility, and limitations of the various developed arylation protocols, also comparing their results with those achieved in analogous Pd-catalysed arylation reactions involving the use of aryl halides as electrophiles. Mechanistic proposals have also been briefly summarised and discussed. However, data concerning Pd-catalysed direct C–H bond arylations involving the C–H bonds of aryl substituents of the examined heteroarene derivatives have not been taken into account.

Abstract
The interest in the NLO response of organic compounds is growing rapidly, due to the ease of synthesis, availability, and low loss. Here, in this study, Cu(II)-catalyzed selective N-arylation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles derivatives were achieved in the presence of different bases Et3N/TMEDA, solvents DCM/MeOH/H2O, and various aryl boronic acids under open atmospheric conditions. Two different copper-catalyzed pathways were selected for N-arylation in the presence of active nucleophilic sites, providing a unique tool for the preparation of NLO materials, C-NH (aryl) derivatives of 2-aminobenzimidazoles with protection and without protection of NH2 group. In addition to NMR analysis, all synthesized derivatives (1a–1f and 2a–2f) of 5-bromo-2-aminobenzimidazole (1) were computed for their non-linear optical (NLO) properties and reactivity descriptor parameters. Frontier molecular orbital (FMO) analysis was performed to get information about the electronic properties and reactivity of synthesized compounds.

Abstract
The direct functionalization of C-H bonds is among the most fundamental chemical transformations in organic synthesis. However, when the innate reactivity of the substrate cannot be utilized for the functionalization of a given single C-H bond, this selective C-H bond functionalization mostly relies on the use of directing groups that allow bringing the catalyst in close proximity to the C-H bond to be activated and these directing groups need to be installed before and cleaved after the transformation, which involves two additional undesired synthetic operations. These additional steps dramatically reduce the overall impact and the attractiveness of C-H bond functionalization techniques since classical approaches based on substrate pre-functionalization are sometimes still more straightforward and appealing. During the past decade, a different approach involving both the in situ installation and removal of the directing group, which can then often be used in a catalytic manner, has emerged: the transient directing group strategy. In addition to its innovative character, this strategy has brought C-H bond functionalization to an unprecedented level of usefulness and has enabled the development of remarkably efficient processes for the direct and selective introduction of functional groups onto both aromatic and aliphatic substrates. The processes unlocked by the development of these transient directing groups will be comprehensively overviewed in this review article.

Abstract
Transition metal catalysed C-H bond activation chemistry has emerged as an exciting and promising approach in organic synthesis. This allows us to synthesize a wider range of functional molecules and conjugated polymers in a more convenient and more atom economical way. The formation of C-C bonds in the construction of pi-conjugated systems, particularly for conjugated polymers, has benefited much from the advances in C-H bond activation chemistry. Compared to conventional transition-metal catalysed cross-coupling polymerization such as Suzuki and Stille cross-coupling, pre-functionalization of aromatic monomers, such as halogenation, borylation and stannylation, is no longer required for direct arylation polymerization (DArP), which involve C-H/C-X cross-coupling, and oxidative direct arylation polymerization (Ox-DArP), which involves C-H/C-H cross-coupling protocols driven by the activation of monomers' C(sp2 )-H bonds. Furthermore, poly(annulation) via C-H bond activation chemistry leads to the formation of unique pi-conjugated moieties as part of the polymeric backbone. This review thus summarises advances to date in the synthesis of conjugated polymers utilizing transition metal catalysed C-H bond activation chemistry. A variety of conjugated polymers via DArP including poly(thiophene), thieno[3,4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione)-containing, fluorenyl-containing, benzothiadiazole-containing and diketopyrrolopyrrole-containing copolymers, were summarized. Conjugated polymers obtained through Ox-DArP were outlined and compared. Furthermore, poly(annulation) using transition metal catalysed C-H bond activation chemistry was also reviewed. In the last part of this review, difficulties and perspective to make use of transition metal catalysed C-H activation polymerization to prepare conjugated polymers were discussed and commented.

Abstract
The skeletal presence of 1,3-azoles in a variety of bioactive natural products, pharmacophores, and organic materials demands the derivatization of such heteroarenes regioselectively. Plenty of cross-coupling as well as cyclocondensation reactions have been performed to build up these skeletons but remained commercially unrealizable. A couple of severe drawbacks are faced by these traditional protocols that require a more straightforward strategy to obviate them. Transition metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization has emerged as a superior alternative in that context. 1,3-Azoles and their benzo counterparts have been extensively functionalized exploiting both noble and earth-abundant transition metals. Lately, C-2 functionalization have gained much traction due to the ease of attaining high regioselectivity and installation of synthetically manipulative functionalities. This critical review presents a bird's eye view of all major C-2 functionalization of (benz)azoles catalyzed by a diverse set of metals performed over the past 15 years.

Abstract
A computational study on the base-assisted orthogonal C-H arylation of azoles with halides is reported. Although concerted metalation-deprotonation (CMD) is favored under acetate assistance at the C5 site that displays the best balance of nucleophilic and acidic character, the most acidic C2 site may be selectively targeted under carbonate assistance by taking advantage of a carbanionic-type (or non-concerted) metalation-deprotonation mechanism (nCMD). For the latter, several experimental probes including base, ligand, and solvent effects have been collected in favor of an outer-sphere deprotonation process after the formation of a [(Ln)(N1-heteroaryl)PdArX] complex. However, no computational analysis of this fundamental elementary step has been so far provided. We have carried out a series of density functional theory (DFT) calculations that delineate the structural and energetic aspects of the nCMD pathway. Starting with the oxa(thia)zole-4-carboxylates selected in our group to engineer the competitive C2 vs C5 arylation in azoles, we show that the energy barrier of the C2 anion generation is lying unexpectedly lower than the prior heterocycle coordination to Pd that is eventually identified as the rate-determining step. These calculations provide satisfactory explanations for the experimental observations of the divergence between nCMD and CMD reactivity, and notably a lower barrier at the C2 site for the nCMD process. On the other hand, the nCMD process is ineffective at the C5 site. Evaluation of various azoles reveals that the nCMD mechanism at C2 is viable from the most acidic (benzo)oxazoles to moderately acidic (benzo)thiazoles, as well as weakly acidic imidazoles. In all cases, in accordance with previously reported experimental data in orthogonal direct C-H arylation of azoles, the nCMD route is found energetically competitive to the CMD one at C5 for all azoles, except for imidazole which needs stronger basic conditions than simple carbonate assistance. Additionally, the acetate ligand, which is the base of choice for CMD, was found inefficient for nCMD and the comparative performance of acetate vs carbonate to assist CMD in the azole series reveals also considerable changes from electronically close but environmentally divergent C5-H vs C2-H bonds.

Abstract
A formal C-H carboxylation of unactivated arenes using CO2 in green solvents is described. The present strategy combines a sterically controlled Ir-catalyzed C-H borylation followed by a Cu-catalyzed carboxylation of the in situ generated organoboronates. The reaction is highly regioselective for the C-H carboxylation of 1,3-disubstituted and 1,2,3-trisubstituted benzenes, 1,2- or 1,4-symmetrically substituted benzenes, fluorinated benzenes and different heterocycles. The developed methodology was applied to the late-stage C-H carboxylation of commercial drugs and ligands.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative arylation is reported using pyrroles N-protected with the 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethoxymethyl (SEM) group and featuring 2-, 3-, and 4-substituents about the pyrrolic framework. In contrast to N-protected pyrroles previously used in decarboxylative arylation, the use of SEM allows deprotection under mild conditions.

Abstract
The reactivity of 2-bromo- and 2,5-dibromoselenophenes in Pd-catalyzed direct heteroarylation was investigated. From 2-bromoselenophene, only the most reactive heteroarenes could be employed to prepare 2-heteroarylated selenophenes; whereas, 2,5-dibromoselenophene generally gave 2,5-di(heteroarylated) selenophenes in high yields using both thiazole and thiophene derivatives. Moreover, sequential catalytic C2 heteroarylation, bromination, catalytic C5 arylation reactions allowed the synthesis of unsymmetrical 2,5-di(hetero)arylated selenophene derivatives in three steps from selenophene.

Abstract
Several reported methods allow access to α-arylated selenophenes, whereas the synthesis of β-arylated selenophenes remains very challenging. Here, the Pd-catalysed coupling of benzenesulfonyl chlorides with selenophenes affording regiospecific β-arylated selenophenes is reported. The reaction proceeds with easily accessible catalyst, base and substrates, and tolerates a variety of substituents both on the benzene and selenophene moieties. This transformation allows the programmed synthesis of polyarylated selenophenes with potential applications in pharmaceutical and materials chemistry, as the installation of aryl groups at the desired positions can be achieved.

Abstract
We have developed metal-free regiocontrolled dehydrogenative C-H/C-H cross-coupling of aryl sulfoxides with phenols by means of trifluoroacetic anhydride. Because the reaction would proceed through an interrupted Pummerer reaction followed by sulfonium-tethered [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement, the C-H/C-H coupling takes place exclusively between the ortho positions of both substrates. Various functional groups including carbonyl, halo, siloxy, and even boryl moieties are compatible. The biaryl products naturally possess hydroxy and sulfanyl groups, which allows the products to be useful synthetic intermediates, as evidenced by the syntheses of π-expanded heteroarenes such as unprecedented 7,12-dioxa[8]helicene.

Abstract
Tailoring of the pre-catalyst, the oxidant and the arylsilane enables the first room-temperature, gold-catalysed, innate C-H arylation of heteroarenes. Regioselectivity is consistently high and, in some cases, distinct from that reported with palladium catalysis. Tolerance to halides and boronic esters, in both the heteroarene and silane partners, provides orthogonality to Suzuki-Miyaura coupling.

Abstract
A selective functionalization of thiazolo[5,4-f]quinazolin-9(8H)-one has been developed through sequential activation of C-H bonds to furnish diarylated compounds. This strategy allows the regioselective C2 and C7 arylation by a judicious choice of coupling partners and bases, requiring no additional ligands or directing groups. Differently substituted N(8)-benzylated-2,7-diaryl-thiazoloquinazolin-9(8H)-ones were thereby obtained in a facile manner. A one-pot procedure was also performed. These protocols provide a synthetically useful route for late-stage functionalization of this highly valuable scaffold, required in drug discovery.
