Abstract
In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the synthesis of thiopyran family compounds via cycloaddition reactions, with examples spanning from the year 2000 to the present. We have categorized the [4 + 2] cycloaddition processes using several criteria, particularly distinguishing between intermolecular and intramolecular types based on the Diels-Alder partners. Additionally, from a mechanism standpoint, we differentiate between concerted and stepwise [4 + 2] processes, offering an analysis of these mechanisms based on the current literature.

Abstract
Thiopyrans and their fused derivatives have significant synthetic relevance owing to their biological importance and occurrence in natural products. The current article provides an overview of synthetic strategies employed for the construction of thiopyran-fused heterocycles. In particular, this article discusses synthetic methods for the fusion of thiopyran with heterocycles such as indole, quinoline, pyrimidine, pyridine, thiophene, chromene, oxazole, pyrazole, pyran and furan and covers the literature from 2013 to 2024. The most common precursors for thiopyrano[2,3-b]indoles, thiopyranoquinolines and thiopyranothiazoles are indoline-2-thione, 2-mercaptoquinoline-3-carbaldehyde and thiazolidinone, respectively, and various reactions involving these are described in detail here. Asymmetric syntheses of thiopyranoindoles achieved using chiral catalysts based on thiourea, proline and metal complexes are also included. The biological activity associated with some compounds is also discussed.

Abstract
Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction is one of the most powerful strategies for the construction of six-membered carbocyclic and heterocyclic systems, in most cases with high regio- and stereoselectivity. In this review, an insight into the most relevant advances on sustainable Diels-Alder reactions since 2010 is provided. Various environmentally benign solvent systems are discussed, namely bio-based derived solvents (such as glycerol and gluconic acid), polyethylene glycol, deep eutectic solvents, supercritical carbon dioxide, water and water-based aqueous systems. Issues such as method's scope, efficiency, selectivity and reaction mechanism, as well as sustainability, advantages and limitations of these reaction media, are addressed.

Abstract
The first diastereoselective synthesis of spirothiooxindoles is reported via the Michael reaction between thiooxindoles and dibenzalacetones. The reaction was conducted without any catalyst or additive under green conditions, i.e., ethanol as the solvent and at room temperature. In addition, the described robust method benefits from scalability, simple work-up, and column chromatography-free purification. This work demonstrates the art of governing regio- and stereoselectivity, which has been discussed in the light of Density Functional Theory calculations. Our method represents the first synthesis of spiro[cyclohexanone-thiooxindoles] with the relative configuration of the aryl moieties at the cyclohexanone ring as cis. The obtained cis-spirothiooxindoles, can be used to afford cis-spirooxindoles, which their synthesis had not been explored before. According to our molecular docking studies, cis-spirooxindoles demonstrate higher binding affinities than corresponding trans-spirooxindoles for the OPRT domain of the Leishmania donovani uridine 5′-monophosphate synthase (LdUMPS). Thus, the reported method may eventually be utilized to develop new hit compounds for leishmaniasis treatment.

Abstract
Abstract Sultones, the cyclic esters of hydroxyl sulfonic acids, are a fascinating class of heterocycles and the recent years have witnessed an increasing interest in these molecules, especially in six-ring δ-sultones. The importance of these compounds is either because of their biological properties themselves or due to their versatility as intermediates in more complex target syntheses. Accordingly, the development of new synthesis methods to access δ-sultones is an important and rewarding task which we wish to highlight in this review. Graphical abstract ![]()

Abstract
Gold(III)-catalyzed synthesis of 14-π electron heteroaromatic thiopyrano[2,3-b]indole is reported using conjugated enyne tethered indole sulfides, featuring skeletal rearrangement conjoined with intramolecular hydroarylation (via C3-H functionalization of the indole core) and oxidative aromatization. Subsequent Pd-catalyzed C-C coupling resulted in a 16-π electron heteroaromatic isothiochromeno[1,8,7-bcd]indole.
