Clinicopathological Characteristics of Thymic Tuberculosis- A Rare Entity

Tuberculosis is a severely debilitating disease and it rarely presents with involvement of the thymus. Only fifteen cases have been reported worldwide. We report a case of thymic tuberculosis in a 12-year-old female presenting with cervical lymphadenopathy. Computed tomographic imaging revealed a mediastinal mass which was then excised via thoracotomy. The gross appearance of the cut surface of both lobes was variegated with white, granular caseating material. Microscopy revealed multiple, caseating, epithelioid granulomas with dispersed Langhans giant cells surrounded by thymic parenchyma with Hassals corpuscles. The patient was treated with anti-tubercular drugs and her condition improved. On follow up, the patient is healthy and has gained weight.

Tuberculosis of the thymus in a 6-month-old infant with literature review

Tuberculosis of the thymus is very uncommon. Most previously reported cases have involved adolescents or adults. Herein, we report a case of tuberculosis of the thymus diagnosed in a 6-month-old infant, presenting with progressive dyspnea and a mediastinal mass. Both clinical and radiologic findings were nonspecific, while pathologic findings confirmed thymic tissue with massive caseous granulomas consistent with tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis of thymus--a case report

Tuberculosis rarely figures in the list of thymic masses. We hereby report a case of thymic tuberculosis successfully managed with surgical excision and antituberculouschemotherapy.

Severe airway obstruction in a child with Pott's disease

Airway obstruction associated with Pott's disease is rare. We present a case of severe airway obstruction caused by an extensive paravertebral mediastinal abscess in a 3-year-old boy with tuberculosis of the thoracic spine.
