Abstract
Ir(III) complexes are particularly noted for their excellent photophysical properties in giving blue OLED phosphors. In this study, two distinctive carbene pro-chelates LAH2 + and LBH2 + (or LCH2 +) were employed in preparation of heteroleptic Ir(III) complexes, to which LAH2 + bears a cyano substituted benzoimidazolium along with N-mesityl appendage, while LBH2 + (or LCH2 +) carries the symmetrical benzoimidazolium entity. Notably, the reversible equilibration at high temperature was observed for m, f-ct14 and m, f-ct15 with a single LA chelate. In contrast, only the mer-substituted m-ct16 was obtained upon employing two LA chelates. All Ir(III) complexes exhibited blue photoluminescence (ΦPL ≥ ${\ge }$ 78 %) with short radiative lifetimes (τrad ≤ ${\le }$ 1.05 μs) in solution. The Ph OLED device with m-ct16 afforded an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 22.8 % at 5000 cd ⋅ m-2. Moreover, the hyper-OLED based on m-ct16 and v-DABNA exhibited EQE1000 of 32.1 % (EQE recorded at 1000 cd ⋅ m-2) and J90 of 15.0 mA cm-2 (current density at 90 % of max. EQE). Its suppressed efficiency roll-off (EQE of 32.1 % and 27.7 % at 1000 cd ⋅ m-2 and 10000 cd ⋅ m-2) demonstrated a milestone in fabrication of blue OLED devices.

Abstract
In this study, a tetradentate Pt(II) complex designed to have N-heterocyclic carbene ligands modified with an anchor-shaped 2,6-diisopropylphenyl (dip) group is described to enhance molecular rigidity for narrow emission and high efficiency. The tetradentate ligand with the dip group significantly hinders steric interactions and restricts π-conjugation from benzocarbene, leading to shallow lowest unoccupied molecular orbital levels and a consequent reduction in the triplet metal-to-ligand charge transfer character. These structural modifications result in narrow emission spectra and enhanced efficiency for blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) over wide doping concentration ranges. These blue OLEDs exhibit deep-blue emissions at 455 nm with color coordinates of (0.139, 0.090), a full width at half-maximum of 17 nm, and a high maximum external quantum efficiency of 24.1% at a doping concentration of 10 wt %. In addition, the OLED performance was stably maintained at a doping concentration of 20 wt %. Overall, the anchor-shaped dip group significantly enhances the rigidity of the ligand in the tetradentate Pt(II) complex, effectively reducing intermolecular interactions and allowing the complex to function as a highly efficient and pure deep-blue emitter.

Abstract
Iridium(III) complexes are particularly noted for their excellent potentials in fabrication of blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), but the severe efficiency roll-off largely hampered their practical applications. To reveal the underlying characteristics, three Ir(III) complexes, namely f-ct5c, f-ct5d, and f-ct11, bearing imidazo[4,5-b]pyrazin-2-ylidene cyclometalates are prepared and characterized in detail. Both f-ct5c and f-ct5d (also their mixture f-ct5mix) gave intensive blue emissions peaking at ≈465 nm with short radiative lifetimes of 1.76 and 2.45 µs respectively, in degassed toluene. Alternatively, f-ct11 with two 4-tert-butylphenyl substituents on each imidazo[4,5-b]pyrazin-2-ylidene entity, possessed a bluish-green emission (508 nm) together with an extended radiative lifetime of 34.3 µs in the dispersed PMMA matrix. Consequently, the resulting solution-processed OLED with f-ct11 delivered a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 6.5% with serious efficiency roll-offs. In contrast, f-ct5mix based device achieved a high EQEmax of 27.2% and the EQE maintained at 23.0% of 1000 cd m-2. Furthermore, the hyper-OLEDs with f-ct5mix as the sensitizer and v-DABNA as the terminal emitter afford narrowed emission with a considerably high EQEmax exceeding 32%, affirming the potential of f-ct5mix to serve as both the emitter and sensitizer in OLEDs.

Abstract
Blue tetradentate Pt(II) complexes, Pt-tBuCz and Pt-dipCz, are synthesized by introducing carbazoles with bulky substituents for improving the rigidity and inhibiting intermolecular interactions of phosphorescent emitter. tert-Butyl and 2,6-diisopropylphenyl groups are substituted as the blocking groups at 3 position of the carbazole in Pt-tBuCz and Pt-dipCz, respectively. These new phosphorescent emitters exhibit a narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) and a high horizontal emitting dipole orientation ratio. Pt-dipCz demonstrates a small FWHM of 24 nm, a high emitting dipole orientation ratio of 81%, and a high photoluminescence quantum yield value of 94%. As a result, the Pt-tBuCz and Pt-dipCz devices exhibited external quantum efficiencies (EQEs) of 23.7% and 25.0% with small FWHMs of 25 and 22 nm, respectively. For the Pt-dipCz device, the small FWHM and high EQE of >20% are maintained even at a doping concentration of 20 wt%. Furthermore, phosphor-sensitized organic light-emitting diodes fabricated using Pt-dipCz as a sensitizer achieved a high EQE of 31.4% with an FWHM of 18 nm. This result indicates that the 2,6-diisopropylphenyl group is a effective blocking group for Pt(II) complexes to develop highly efficient, color stable, doping concentration resistant, and efficiently sensitizing blue phosphors.

Abstract
Efficient blue phosphors remain a formidable challenge for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). To circumvent this obstacle, a series of Ir(III)-based carbene complexes bearing asymmetric di-N-aryl 6-(trifluoromethyl)-2H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-ylidene chelates, namely, f-ct6a‒c, are synthesized, and their structures and photophysical properties are comprehensively investigated. Moreover, these emitters can undergo interconversion in refluxing 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene, catalyzed by a mixture of sodium acetate (NaOAc) and p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (TsOH·H2O) without decomposition. All Ir(III) complexes present good photoluminescence quantum yield (ΦPL = 83-88%) with peak maximum (max.) at 443-452 nm and narrowed full width at half maximum (FWHM = 66-73 nm). Among all the fabricated OLED devices, f-ct6b delivers a max. external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 23.4% and Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage CIEx , y coordinates of (0.14, 0.12), whereas the hyper-OLED device based on f-ct6a and 5H,9H,11H,15H-[1,4] benzazaborino [2,3,4-kl][1,4]benzazaborino[4',3',2':4,5][1,4]benzazaborino[3,2-b]phenazaborine-7,13-diamine, N7,N7,N13,N13,5,9,11,15-octaphenyl (ν-DABNA) exhibits max. EQE of 26.2% and CIEx , y of (0.12, 0.13). Finally, the corresponding tandem OLED with f-ct6b as dopant gives a max. luminance of over 10 000 cd m-2 and max. EQE of 42.1%, confirming their candidacies for making true-blue OLEDs.

Abstract
Narrowband blue emitters are indispensable in achieving ultrahigh-definition OLED displays that satisfy the stringent BT 2020 standard. Hereby, a series of bis-tridentate Ir(III) complexes bearing electron-deficient imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-ylidene carbene coordination fragments and 2,6-diaryloxy pyridine ancillary groups were designed and synthesized. They exhibited deep blue emission with quantum yields of up to 89% and a radiative lifetime of 0.71 μs in the DPEPO host matrix, indicating both the high efficiency and excellent energy transfer process from the host to dopant. The OLED based on Irtb1 showed an emission at 468 nm with a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 22.7%. Moreover, the hyper-OLED with Irtb1 as a sensitizer for transferring energy to terminal emitter v-DABNA exhibited a narrowband blue emission at 472 nm and full width at half-maximum (FWHM) of 24 nm, a maximum EQE of 23.5%, and EQEs of 19.7, 16.1, and 12.9% at a practical brightness of 100, 1000, and 5000 cd/m2, respectively.

Abstract
The reaction of a triazole ligand, 2-(1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)pyridine (L1), with 2-bromopyridine afforded three new ligands, 2,2'-(1H-1,2,3-triazole-1,4-diyl)dipyridine (L2), 2,2'-(2H-1,2,3-triazole-2,4-diyl)dipyridine (L3) and 2,2'-(1H-1,2,3-triazole-1,5-diyl)dipyridine (L4). A series of luminescent mononuclear copper(I) complexes of these ligands [Cu(Ln)(P^P)](ClO4) [n = 1, P^P = (PPh3)2 (1); n = 1, P^P = POP (2); n = 2, P^P = (PPh3)2 (3); n = 2, P^P = POP (4); n = 3, P^P = (PPh3)2 (5); n = 3, P^P = POP (6); n = 4, P^P = (PPh3)2 (9); n = 4, P^P = POP (10)] have been obtained from the reaction of Ln with [Cu(MeCN)4]ClO4 in the presence of PPh3 and POP. L3 was also found to form dinuclear compounds [Cu2(L3)(PPh3)4](ClO4)2 (7) and [Cu2(L3)(POP)2](ClO4)2 (8). All of the Cu(I) compounds have been characterized by IR, UV/vis, CV, 1H NMR, and 31P{1H} NMR. The molecular structures of 1-3, 5, and 7 have been further determined by X-ray crystallography. In CH2Cl2 solutions, these Cu(I) complexes exhibit tunable green to orange emissions (563-621 nm) upon excitation at λex = 380 nm. In the solid state, these complexes show intense emissions and it is interesting to note that 1 and 3 are blue-light emitters. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the lowest energy electronic transition associated with these complexes predominantly originates from metal-to-ligand charge transfer transitions (MLCT).

Abstract
In this work, we present a series of luminescent platinum acetylide complexes with acetylides that are electronically modified and/or π-extended. Six isocyanide-supported complexes with the general formula cis-[Pt(CNAr)2(C≡CR)2] and six acyclic diaminocarbene (ADC) complexes of the form trans-[Pt(ADC)2(C≡CR)2], all using the same five acetylide ligands, are described. The compounds are characterized by multinuclear NMR, FT-IR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In most cases, the phosphorescence arises from an acetylide-centered 3(π → π*) excited state, although in one of the isocyanide compounds there is evidence for a charge-transfer excited state. The photoluminescence wavelength depends strongly on the substitution pattern and extent of the π conjugation on the acetylide, with maxima spanning the range of ca. 460-540 nm. Most photoluminescence lifetimes are long, beyond 50 μs, and quantum yields are low to moderate, 0.043-0.27. The photoluminescence quantum yields and lifetimes in these compounds do not systematically improve in the ADC complexes compared to the isocyanide versions, suggesting the neutral ligand σ-donor character does not play a large role in the excited-state dynamics when the triplet excited state is delocalized over a large π system.

Abstract
Efficient Förster energy transfer from a phosphorescent sensitizer to a thermally activated delayed fluorescent terminal emitter constitutes a potential solution for achieving superb blue emissive organic light-emitting diodes, which are urgently needed for high-performance displays. Herein, we report the design of four Ir(III) metal complexes, f-ct1a ‒ d, that exhibit efficient true-blue emissions and fast radiative decay lifetimes. More importantly, they also undergo facile isomerization in the presence of catalysts (sodium acetate and p-toluenesulfonic acid) at elevated temperature and, hence, allow for the mass production of either emitter without decomposition. In this work, the resulting hyper-OLED exhibits a true-blue color (Commission Internationale de I'Eclairage coordinate CIEy = 0.11), a full width at half maximum of 18 nm, a maximum external quantum efficiency of 35.5% and a high external quantum efficiency 20.3% at 5000 cd m‒2, paving the way for innovative blue OLED technology.

Abstract
In this study, we designed and synthesized three series of blue emitting homoleptic iridium(III) phosphors bearing 4-cyano-3-methyl-1-phenyl-6-(trifluoromethyl)-benzo[d]imidazol-2-ylidene (mfcp), 5-cyano-1-methyl-3-phenyl-6-(trifluoromethyl)-benzo[d]imidazol-2-ylidene (ofcp), and 1-(3-(tert-butyl)phenyl)-6-cyano-3-methyl-4-(trifluoromethyl)-benzo[d]imidazol-2-ylidene (5-mfcp) cyclometalates, respectively. These iridium complexes exhibit intense phosphorescence in the high energy region of 435-513 nm in the solution state at RT, to which the relatively large T1 → S0 transition dipole moment is beneficial for serving as a pure emitter and an energy donor to the multiresonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) terminal emitters via Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET). The resulting OLEDs achieved true blue, narrow bandwidth EL with a max EQE of 16-19% and great suppression of efficiency roll-off with ν-DABNA and t-DABNA. We obtained the FRET efficiency up to 85% using titled Ir(III) phosphors f-Ir(mfcp)3 and f-Ir(5-mfcp)3 to achieve true blue narrow bandwidth emission. Importantly, we also provide analysis on the kinetic parameters involved in the energy transfer processes and, accordingly, propose feasible ways to improve the efficiency roll-off caused by the shortened radiative lifetime of hyperphosphorescence.

Abstract
The isomerization of iridium(III) complexes with metalated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands was studied. The fac isomers of complexes with 1-phenyl-3-methylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene or 1-phenyl-3-benzylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene ligands are transformed cleanly into the mer isomers when solutions of the complexes are treated with first HNTf2 and then NEt3. The transformation can be accomplished within a few minutes and the side product (NEt3H)(NTf2) is easy to separate. Spectroscopic and structural analyses indicate that the isomerization proceeds by protonation of the carbene ligand at the metalated phenyl group, accompanied by a fac → mer rearrangement of the carbene donors. An iridium complex with a 1-phenyl-1,2,4-triazolo[4,3-f]phenanthridine-based carbene ligand could not be isomerized under similar conditions, most likely because of its reduced conformational flexibility.

Abstract
Four isomeric, homoleptic iridium(III) metal complexes bearing 5-(trifluoromethyl)imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-ylidene and 6-(trifluoromethyl)imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-2-ylidene-based cyclometalating chelates are successfully synthesized. The meridional isomers can be converted to facial isomers through acid induced isomerization. The m-isomers display a relatively broadened and red-shifted emission, while f-isomers exhibit narrowed blue emission band, together with higher photoluminescent quantum yields and reduced radiative lifetime relative to the mer-counterparts. Maximum external quantum efficiencies of 13.5% and 22.8% are achieved for the electrophosphorescent devices based on f-tpb1 and m-tpb1 as dopant emitter together with CIE coordinates of (0.15, 0.23) and (0.22, 0.45), respectively. By using f-tpb1 as the sensitizing phosphor and t-DABNA as thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) terminal emitter, hyperluminescent OLEDs are successfully fabricated, giving high efficiency of 29.6%, full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 30 nm, and CIE coordinates of (0.13, 0.11), confirming the efficient Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) process.

Abstract
The synthesis, structure, photophysical properties, and electrochemistry of the first series of Pt(IV) tris-chelates bearing cyclometalated aryl-NHC ligands are reported. The complexes have the general formula [Pt(trz)2(C∧N)]+, combining two units of the cyclometalated, mesoionic aryl-NHC ligand 4-butyl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene (trz) with a cyclometalated 2-arylpyridine [C∧N = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine (dfppy), 2-phenylpyridine (ppy), 2-(p-tolyl)pyridine (tpy), 2-(2-thienyl)pyridine (thpy), 2-(9,9-dimethylfluoren-2-yl)pyridine (flpy)], and presenting a mer arrangement or metalated aryls. They exhibit a significant photostability under UV irradiation and long-lived phosphorescence in the blue to yellow color range, arising from 3LC excited states involving the C∧N ligands, with quantum yields of up to 0.34 in fluid solution and 0.77 in the rigid matrix at 298 K. The time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations reveal that nonemissive, deactivating excited states of ligand-to-metal charge-transfer (LMCT) character are pushed to high energies as a consequence of the strong σ-donating ability of the carbenic moieties, making the Pt(trz)2 subunit an essential structural component that enables efficient emissions from the chromophoric C∧N ligands, with potential application for the development of different Pt(IV) emitters with tunable properties.
