Abstract
UiO-66-NH2 -IM, a fluorescent metal-organic framework (MOF), was synthesized by post-synthetic modification of UiO-66-NH2 with 2-imidazole carboxaldehyde via a Schiff base reaction. It was examined using various characterization techniques (PXRD, FTIR, NMR, SEM, TGA, UV-Vis DRS, and photoluminescence spectroscopy). The emissive feature of UiO-66-NH2 -IM was utilized to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs), metal ions, and anions, such as acetone, Fe3+ , and carbonate (CO3 2- ). Acetone turns off the high luminescence of UiO-66-NH2 -IM in DMSO, with the limit of detection (LOD) being 3.6 ppm. Similarly, Fe3+ in an aqueous medium is detected at LOD=0.67 μM (0.04 ppm) via quenching. On the contrary, CO3 2- in an aqueous medium significantly enhances the luminescence of UiO-66-NH2 -IM, which is detected with extremely high sensitivity (LOD=1.16 μM, i. e., 0.07 ppm). Large Stern-Volmer constant, Ksv , and low LOD values indicate excellent sensitivity of the post-synthetic MOF. Experimental data supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations discern photo-induced electron transfer (PET), resonance energy transfer (RET), inner filter effect (IFE), or proton abstraction as putative sensing mechanisms. NMR and computational studies propose a proton abstraction mechanism for luminescence enhancement with CO3 2- . Moreover, the optical behavior of the post-synthetic material toward analytes is recyclable.

Abstract
The metal or metal clusters and organic ligands are relevant to the selectivity and performance of phosphate removal in MOFs, and the electron structure, chemical characteristics, and preparation method also affect efficiency and commercial promotion. However, few reports focus on the above, especially for 2D MOF nanomaterials. In this work, two 2D Ln-TDA (Ln = La, Ce) nanosheets assembled via microwave- and ultrasonic-assisted methods are employed as adsorbents for phosphate (H2PO4 -, HPO4 2-) removal for the first time. Their microstructure and performance were characterized using XRD, TEM, SEM, AFM, FTIR, zeta potential, and DFT calculations. The prepared 2D Ln-TDA (Ln = La, Ce) nanosheets exposed more adsorption sites and effectively reduced the restrictions of mass transfer. Based on this, the Langmuir model was employed to estimate the maximum adsorption capacities of the two kinds of nanosheets, which reached 253.5 mg g-1 and 259.5 mg g-1, which are 553 times and 3054 times larger than those for bulk Ln-TDA (Ln = La, Ce), respectively. Additionally, the kinetic data showed that the adsorption equilibrium time is fast, approximately 15 min by the pseudo-second-order model. In addition, the prepared products not only have a wide application range (pH = 3-9) but also offer eco-safety in terms of residuals (no Ln leak out). Based on the XPS spectra, FTIR spectra and DFT calculations, the main adsorption mechanisms included ligand exchange and electrostatic interactions. This new insight provides a novel strategy to prepare 2D MOF adsorbents, achieving a more eco-friendly method (microwave- and ultrasonic-assisted synthesis) for preparing 2D Ln-based MOF nanosheets by coordinative unsaturation to boost phosphate adsorption.

Abstract
Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) represent the organic and inorganic hybrid porous materials. MOFs are low dense and highly porous materials which in turn provide large surface area that can accumulate and store numerous molecules within the pores. The pore size may also act as a mesh to separate molecules. The porous nature of MOFs is beneficial for altering the intrinsic properties of the materials. Over the past decade, different types of hybrid MOFs have been reported in combination with polymers, carbon materials, metal nanoparticles, metal oxides, and biomolecules for various applications. MOFs have also been used in the fabrication of electronic devices, sensors, energy storage, gas separation, supercapacitors, drug delivery and environmental clean-up. In this review, the unique structural orientation, exceptional properties and recent applications of MOFs have been discussed in the first section along with their porosity, stability and other influencing factors. In addition, various methods and techniques involved in the synthesis and designing of MOFs such as solvothermal, electrochemical, mechanochemical, ultrasonication and microwave methods are highlighted. In order to understand the scientific feasibility of MOFs in developing new products, various strategies have been applied to obtain different dimensional MOFs (0D, 1D, 2D and 3D) and their composite materials are also been conferred. Finally, the future prospects of MOFs, remaining challenges, research gaps and possible solutions that need to be addressed by advanced experimental design, computational models, simulation techniques and theoretical concepts have been deliberated.

Abstract
Facile and rapid detection of residual organic pesticides on the fruits and vegetables has recently drawn increased attention in the food safety field. Herein, a surfactant-assisted solvothermal route with subsequent post-modification was designed for the preparation of Eu3+-functionated Zn-BDC ultrathin nanosheets (labeled as Eu3+@Zn-MOF-NS, BDC: 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate) with the thickness of 5 nm. The as-obtained Eu3+@Zn-MOF-NS could be homogeneously dispersed in aqueous systems to form a highly-stable collosol. Under the UV excitation of 325 nm, the as-obtained Eu3+@Zn-MOF-NS displayed red photoluminescence emission of Eu3+ ions, which could be notably quenched by an organochlorine pesticide, 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline (DCNA), without interferences from ions, organic small molecules, and other pesticides. The detection limit and Ksv were 0.17 μM (35 ppb) and 3.2 × 105 M-1 in the water system, respectively. Moreover, the present 2D Eu3+@Zn-MOF sensor was also employed for the detection of DCNA in Chaohu Lake water and tap water and in apple, cabbage, and pakchoi samples with the relative standard deviation (RSD) ranging from 4.74 to 9.77%. Further investigations revealed that the competitive absorption between DCNA and the as-obtained Eu3+@Zn-MOF-NS resulted in the fluorescence quenching of the probe.

Abstract
A luminescent 3D metal-organic framework [Zn(NDA)(AMP)] = PUC1 (where, NDA = naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid and AMP = 4-aminomethyl pyridine) was synthesized under solvothermal conditions. The synthesized 3D framework was fully characterized with the help of different analytical techniques such as SCXRD, FTIR, TGA, PXRD, SEM, BET, etc. PUC1 exhibited a strong emission peak at 371 nm when excited at 290 nm and the resulting emission was efficiently quenched in the presence of various organic explosive substances like pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), 2,4,6-trinitrophenyl-N-methylnitramine (Tetryl), trinitrotoluene (TNT), 1,3,5-trinitroperhydro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX), and 1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7-tetrazoctane (HMX). PUC1 revealed highly sensitive and selective detection of PETN and Tetryl with high quenching constant values of 0.1 × 106 and 0.12 × 105 M-1 and low detection limits of 0.315 and 0.404 μM respectively. The strong luminescent properties of PUC1 lead to its successful application in the development of latent fingermarks on different non-porous surfaces using the powder dusting method. The accuracy and applicability of the synthesized material were determined by developing fingerprints by using secretions from eccrine and apocrine glands on a glass slide and various other surfaces, followed by dusting the surfaces. The results so obtained were found to be very accurate and promising.

Abstract
The optical sensor with ratiometric and turn-off dual modes is constructed to detect H2O2 and glucose based on blue fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) and MnO2 nanosheets with great ability of fluorescence quenching and scattering. Employing CDs@MnO2 nanosheets nanocomposite as the probe, H2O2 is detected by simultaneously collecting first-order scattering (FOS, 353.5 nm), fluorescence (440 nm), and second-order scattering (SOS, 710 nm) under the excitation of 350 nm. H2O2 with strong oxidation property can etch the lamellar structure of MnO2 nanosheets into nano-fragments, which made the fluorescence of CDs in the system recover and the scattering intensity (FOS and SOS) of the system decrease significantly. Therefore, the optical sensor combined FOS and fluorescence signals in ratiometric mode, and SOS signal in turn-off mode to realize sensitive determination of H2O2. The linear ranges of ratiometric mode and turn-off mode for H2O2 detection were 0.2-40 and 0.2-15 μM, respectively. And the limits of detection (LODs) of two modes were 73 and 104 nM, respectively. Furthermore, the sensor was also successfully applied to the detection of glucose which can react to produce H2O2. Satisfactorily, the LODs of this sensor for glucose detection were 95 and 113 nM for ratiometric mode and turn-off mode, respectively. This work not only provides a new method for the accurate detection of H2O2 and glucose, but also extends a new idea for the study of the combination of scattering and fluorescence.

Abstract
Herein, a multifunctional ratiometric fluorescent (RF) probe Fe-MIL-88NH2@RhB was fabricated for individual detection of Cu2+/Glu and continuous sensing of Glu based on unique coordination principle by encapsulating RhB into the porous of metal-organic-framework-Fe-MIL-88NH2. Designed Fe-MIL-88NH2@RhB platform could selectively identify Cu(II)/Glu accompanying a turn-off/turn-on fluorescent behavior with good linearity. Moreover, if the Fe-MIL-88NH2@RhB/Cu2+ is treated with Glu continuously, the quenching fluorescence of this platform (after Cu2+ sensing at blue emission) would be further in turn restored. Utilizing Fe-MIL-88NH2@RhB probe, the imaging of intracellular Cu(II) and Glu in living A549 cells was successful conducted through divisional channels with a satisfactory low cytotoxicity, meanwhile, the sensing results of Glu in serum by the molecular logic gate was also superior, which may use for development of an medical occupational tool for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis tentative diagnosis. In addition, the MOF shows di-modal response (color and lumescence) to Cu2+ and Glu with excellent selectivity against a wide range of other interference analytes, and the corresponding portable low-toxicity on-line test strips for Cu2+ and Glu recognize has exhibited a remarkable visually chromogenic phenomena, which may utilize for monitoring these contaminants in real water sample. Finally, the feasibility of probe to monitor Cu2+ and Glu in foodstuffs was also evaluated.

Abstract
Three 1D coordination polymers (CPs) [M(pdca)(H2O)2] n (M = Zn, Cd, and Co; 1-3), and a 3D coordination framework {[(CH3)2NH2][CuK(2,3-pdca)(pa)(NO3)2]} n (4) (2,3-pdca = pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylate and pa = picolinic acid), have been synthesized adopting a solvothermal reaction strategy. The CPs have been thoroughly characterized using various spectral techniques, that is, elemental analyses, FT-IR, TGA, DSC, UV/vis, and luminescence. Structural information on 1-4 was obtained by PXRD and X-ray single-crystal analyses, whereas morphological insights were attained through FESEM, AFM, EDX, HRTEM, and BET surface area analyses. Roughness parameters were calculated from AFM analysis, whereas dimensions of small domains and interplanar spacing were defined with the aid of HRTEM. CPs 1-3 are 1D isostructural networks, whereas 4 is a 3D framework. Moreover, 1-4 display moderate luminescence at rt. In addition, 1-4 have been applied as economic and efficient porous catalysts for the Knoevenagel condensation reaction and C-H bond activation under mild conditions with good yields (95-98 and 97-99%), respectively. Notably, 1-3 can be reused up to seven cycles, whereas 4 can be reused up to five catalytic cycles with retained catalytic efficiency. Relative catalytic efficacy toward the Knoevenagel condensation reaction follows in the order 2 > 1 > 3 > 4, whereas 2 > 4 > 1 > 3 for C-H activation. The present result demonstrates synthetic, structural, optical, morphological, and catalytic aspects of 1-4.

Abstract
Through a solvothermal reaction between the corresponding lanthanide(III) nitrate, 1,10 o-phenanthroline and pyridine 3,5-dicarboxylic acid ligands, a novel two-dimensional terbium-based metal-organic framework (Tb-MOF), named {Tb2O0.5(C12H8N2)2(C7H3NO4)3(H2O)2.75}n (1) with strong fluorescence was synthesized by hydrothermal method. The single crystal structure and phase purity of the as-synthesized Tb-MOF were verified by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Subsequently, some studies on the morphology, structure, and optical properties of the compound were carried out. The results show that the synthesized Tb-MOF (1) can be used for the fluorescence sensing of nitrite and ferric ions. Simultaneously, the as-synthesized crystal structure offers good chemical stability in different environments, such as common organic solvents, solutions with a wide pH range, and aqueous solutions of metal ions. Besides, it has good chemical stability in a certain temperature range. In addition, a detection method for nitrite and iron ions was established based on the principle of fluorescence quenching of Tb-MOF by the analytical target, showing good recovery and precision. The proposed method provides a reliable new method for detecting nitrite and ferric ions concentrations in actual water samples.

Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted growing interest due to excellent performance in gas separation, energy conversion and storage, catalysis, and sensing, but their homochirality and exfoliation as well as related enantioselective catalysis and sensing remain a stage of pending exploration owing to the scarcity of homochiral MOFs and intrinsic aggregation of nanosheets. Herein, a homochiral 2D MOF (HMOF-3) with polymeric chirality, good thermostability, and solvent stability is designed and constructed by a homochiral organic ligand 5,5'-((1R,2R)-cyclohexane dicarbonyl bis(azanediyl)) diisophthalic acid (R,R-CHCAIP), a ditopic coligand 4,4'-bipyridine, and Zn salts. Remarkably, HMOF-3 can be exfoliated via solvent-assisted sonication to achieve 2D HMOF-3 nanosheets (HMOF-3-NS), which exhibit a sensitive turn-on effect with the fluorescence enhancement up to 63.5 times in the presence of R/S-mandelic acid, d/l-tartaric acid, d/l-lactic acid, d/l-alanine, and d/l-tryptophan. More importantly, the high surface area, polymeric chirality environment, and highly accessible functional sites on the surface of HMOF-3 nanosheets enable close contact with probed enantiomers, leading to highly enantioselective and sensitive sensing. The turn-on mechanism of host-guest-assisted electronic transfer is confirmed by DFT calculation and the relative experiment. This work highlights the promise of homochiral 2D MOF nanosheets for enantioselective sensing applications.

Abstract
The exfoliation of bulk two-dimensional metal-organic framework (MOF) into few-layered nanosheets has attracted much attention recently. In this work, an environmental-friendly route has been developed for layered-MOF (MAMS-1) delamination using deep eutectic solvent (DES), which is more sustainable and efficient alternative than conventional organic solvents for MOF nanosheet preparation. Under sonication condition, DES as solvents, the highest exfoliation rate of MAMS-1 is up to 70% with two host layers via poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) surfactant-assisted method. The presence of tert-butyl exteriors and the atomically thickness endow the MOF nanosheets stable suspension for at least one month. Due to the 2D structure and excellent stability, MAMS-1 nanosheet (MAMS-1-NS) was chosen as a good candidate to encapsulate Eu3+ cations. The obtained Eu3+@MAMS-1-NS acts as a multi-responsive luminescent sensor through fluorescence quenching, and can specifically recognize Fe3+ (LOD = 0.40 μM, KSV = 1.05 × 105 M-l), Hg2+ (LOD = 0.038 μM, KSV = 5.78 × 106 M-l), Cr2O72- (LOD = 0.33 μM, KSV = 1.55 × 105 M-l) and MnO4- (LOD = 0.088 μM, KSV = 4.49 × 105 M-l). Compared with bulk Eu3+@MAMS-1, the sensitivity of Eu3+@MAMS-1-NS is greatly improved owing to its ultrathin nanosheet morphology and highly accessible active sites on the surface.

Abstract
Direct transfer of protons and electrons between two tandem reactions is still a great challenge, because overall reaction kinetics is seriously affected by diffusion rate of the proton and electron carriers. We herein report a host–guest supramolecular strategy based on the incorporation of NADH mimics onto the surface of a metal-organic capsule to encapsulate flavin analogues for catalytic biomimetic monooxygenations in conjunction with enzymes. Coupling an artificial catalysis and a natural enzymatic catalysis in the pocket of an enzyme, this host–guest catalyst–enzyme system allows direct proton and electron transport between two catalytic processes via NADH mimics for the monooxygenation of both cyclobutanones and thioethers. This host–guest approach, which involves the direct coupling of abiotic and biotic catalysts via a NADH-containing host, is quite promising compared to normal catalyst–enzyme systems, as it offers the key advantages of supramolecular catalysis in integrated chemical and biological synthetic sequences. Combining artificial and natural enzymes is a strategy to mimic biocatalytic processes with high efficiency and selectivity. This study reports a dual catalytic system composed of flavin adenine dinucleotide model and NADH mimics to catalyze the monooxygenation of cyclobutanones and thioethers.

Abstract
Colorimetric sensors have attracted wide scope of attentions due to its fascinating advantages, like handy, equipment-free and naked eye detections. In this investigation, a new and novel hydrazone based dual-responsive ratiometric/colorimetric chemosensor have been developed for highly selective and sensitive detection of Cu2+ and F- ions in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solvent. The probe showed highly selective sensing towards Cu2+ and F- ions by exhibiting a color change from pale yellow to yellowish green and pale yellow to yellowish brown respectively., in DMSO without any interference of other ions at same concentration. These experimental results have also substantiated by the NMR, HR-MS, UV-Vis spectroscopic, cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry techniques and DFT calculations. The detection limits are found to be 5.8 μM for Cu2+ and 0.025 μM for F- ions which is far below to the values recommended by WHO. The stoichiometric ratios between NAPCBH and Cu2+/ F- ions were confirmed from the Job's plots and 1H NMR titration experiments which are found to be 2:1 and 1:1 respectively. The tracking ability of the DNA with NAPCBH-Cu2+ was studied by UV-Vis titration and Cyclic voltammetry measurements. It shows efficient affinity towards DNA with NAPCBH-Cu2+. The probe can also quantitatively determine the Copper and fluoride ions present in environmental samples & toothpaste. The NAPCBH was promptly recovered by utilizing very low concentration of HCl, showing that was found feasible and re-usable sensor for the convenient detection of Cu2+ and F- ions.
