Abstract
Aminocarbonylation reactions play a critical role in the synthesis of amides. Traditional aminocarbonylation processes often rely on carbon monoxide (CO) gas, a highly toxic and challenging reagent to handle. Recent advancements in CO surrogates address these challenges. This review looks at the various CO substitutes used in aminocarbonylation reactions. These include metal carbonyls, acids, formates, chloroform, and others that release CO. Use of CO surrogates not only improves safety but also broadens the substrate scope and operational simplicity of the aminocarbonylation reactions. This review provides a summary of recent progress made in aminocarbonylation reactions using different CO surrogates. We discuss key methodologies, catalytic systems, and mechanistic insights, highlighting the efficiency and versatility of CO surrogates in amide bond formation.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed carbonylative cross-coupling reactions with various carbon monoxide (CO) sources cultivate competent routes for the synthesis of bulk and value-added chemicals. However, the practical use of this odorless, inflammable, lethal gas has always raised a concern for chemists. The attention and advancement of various CO-surrogates is surely welcomed as a green alternative to CO-gas. However, the main concern lies in the suitability and scalability of these CO-surrogate-driven reactions. Literature showed the progress of various ways to make in-situ CO from these CO surrogates. One of the most convenient sources is using metal carbonyls which are already known to lose CO easily. Among all the kinds, Mo(CO)6 gained much popularity but its toxic nature and demand for high temperatures restricted its use. However, Co2(CO)8 is popular as a catalyst but as an in-situ CO-source reports are scarce. This low-melting CO-releaser was found effective in flourishing aminocarbonylation, alkoxycarbonylation, and reductive carbonylation under mild conditions. This mini-review portrays the recent developments of palladium-catalyzed carbonylation reactions using Co2(CO)8 as a CO source.

Abstract
In this study, we present the development of two catalytic processes: a Pd-PEPPSI-catalyzed aminocarbonylation and a Pd(OAc)2-Xantphos-catalyzed alkoxycarbonylation of d-glycals, utilizing carbonylative cross-coupling reactions. We explored successfully various types of aromatic amines, as well as alkyl amines and amino acids, to synthesize new d-glycal amides. However, we observed limitations in the reactivity of alkyl and heteroaromatic amines. The processes enabled the synthesis of 20 novel C1-branched glycoamides and 7 new d-gluco esters.

Abstract
A simple, broadly applicable protocol for amidation and esterification reactions is described. Thereby, 4-acetamidophenyl triflimide (AITF), a crystalline stable reagent, is employed for the activation of carboxylic acids. The use of AITF as a coupling agent is demonstrated in the synthesis of peptides, amides and esters under mild conditions in good to excellent yields. Notably, peptide segment condensations were also accomplished. A diverse array of synthetic protocols showcasing a broad substrate scope and good functional group compatibility were accomplished. Herein, we systematically summarized the use of AITF in peptide synthesis strategies.

Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) have been widely used in transition metal-catalyzed processes, but the precise behavior of ILs and catalysts in these reactions is unknown. Herein, the role of ILs and the interaction pattern between Shvo's catalyst and ILs have been revealed with characterization by 1H NMR and crystallography based on the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2. ILs promote the dissociation of Shvo's catalyst and enhance the rate of production of CO. The CO that is produced is subsequently used in the tandem hydroformylation-reduction of alkenes to produce valuable alcohols. In the absence of ILs, formamides can be obtained by N-formylation of most primary or secondary amines.

Abstract
The carbonyl group forms an integral part of several drug molecules and materials; hence, synthesis of carbonylated compounds remains an intriguing area of research for synthetic and medicinal chemists. Handling toxic CO gas has several limitations; thus, using safe and effective techniques for in or ex situ generation of carbon monoxide from nontoxic and cheap precursors is highly desirable. Among several precursors that have been explored for the generation of CO gas, chloroform can prove to be a promising CO surrogate due to its cost-effectiveness and ready availability. However, the one-pot chloroform-based carbonylation reaction requires strong basic conditions for hydrolysis of chloroform that may affect functional group tolerability of substrates and scale-up reactions. These limitations can be overcome by a two-chamber reactor (COware) that can be utilized for ex situ CO generation through hydrolysis of chloroform in one chamber and facilitating safe carbonylation reactions in another chamber under mild conditions. The versatility of this "Chloroform-COware" technique is explored through palladium-catalyzed aminocarbonylation of medicinally relevant heterocyclic cores, viz., isoquinoline and quinoline.

Abstract
Mechanochemical transformations have made chemists enter unknown territories, forcing a different chemistry perspective. While questioning or revisiting familiar concepts belonging to solution chemistry, mechanochemistry has broken new ground, especially in the panorama of organic synthesis. Not only does it foster new "thinking outside the box", but it also has opened new reaction paths, allowing to overcome the weaknesses of traditional chemistry exactly where the use of well-established solution-based methodologies rules out progress. In this Review, the reader is introduced to an intriguing research subject not yet fully explored and waiting for improved understanding. Indeed, the study is mainly focused on organic transformations that, although impossible in solution, become possible under mechanochemical processing conditions, simultaneously entailing innovation and expanding the chemical space.

Abstract
The synthesis of amides from thiols through a cobalt-catalyzed aminocarbonylation is shown. After optimizing all the reaction parameters, the methodology makes possible the obtention of amides with variable yields, while competing reactions such as the formation of disulfides and ureas can be limited. The process works well with aromatic thiols with electron donating groups (EDG) whereas other thiols give reaction with lower yields. The previous process has been transferred and optimized into flow equipment, thus allowing using less CO in a safer way, and permitting the scaling up of the synthesis. Two drugs, moclobemide and itopride were prepared with this methodology, albeit only in the second case with good results. A mechanistic pathway is proposed.
