Abstract
Vinyl difluoromethylene units (-CF-) significantly enhance the bioactivity and physical and chemical properties of compounds. Despite recent advances in introducing vinyl difluoromethylene units, radical-mediated formation of these motifs remains largely unexplored. A novel serial catalytic strategy for selective defluoroalkylation of trifluoromethyl alkenes has been developed, utilizing photocatalytic defluorocarboxylation followed by photoinduced iron-catalyzed decarboxylation/isomerization. The defluoroalkylation reaction involves generating difluoroallyl radicals, tautomerizing to vinyl difluoromethylene radicals, and proceeding through radical addition and alkylation.

Abstract
Fluorinated molecules are of paramount importance because of their unique properties. As a result, the search for innovative approaches to the synthesis of this class of compounds has been relentless over the years. Among these, the combination of photocatalysis and organofluorine chemistry turned out to be an effective partnership to access unattainable fluorinated molecules. This Perspective provides an overview of the recent advances in synthesizing fluorinated molecules via an organophotoredox-catalyzed defluorination process from trifluoromethylated compounds. It encompasses the preparation of difluoromethylated (hetero)arenes, amides, and esters as well as gem-difluoroalkene derivatives using C(sp3)-F bond activation or β-fragmentation. This Perspective will highlight remaining challenges and discuss future research opportunities.

Abstract
A practical and efficient method for the N-acrylation of amines with (trifluoromethyl)alkenes is achieved via the cleavage of three C(sp3)-F bonds, affording a diverse range of useful tertiary and secondary α-arylacrylamides in high yields. This protocol features mild conditions, is transition-metal free, operationally simple, gram-scalable, and compatible with valuable functional groups, and has a broad substrate scope. Mechanistic studies indicate that exchange of an oxygen atom happens between H2O and NaOH, and that the oxygen atom is incorporated into the α-arylacrylamides via the ipso-defluorooxylation of the (trifluoromethyl)alkene. This method is also applied in the late-stage N-acrylation of pharmaceuticals.

Abstract
A convenient method for synthesizing β-trifluoromethyl vinyl ethers and diethers through the base-mediated C-O coupling of (E)-1,2-dichloro-3,3,3-trifluoroprop-1-ene and phenols has been developed. Remarkably, the present process shows perfect regioselective and stereoselective yield of the Z/E isomers for β-trifluoromethyl vinyl ethers with high efficiency. Additionally, β-trifluoromethyl vinyl diethers with identical/diverse phenoxy groups were also obtained and the regulation of the product configuration was achieved. These reactions feature transition-metal-free conditions, wide substrate scope, and atom economy.

Abstract
A straightforward and efficient strategy for the construction of tertiary and secondary α-aryl acrylamido carboxylic acids is reported. This N-acrylation protocol of unprotected amino acids is achieved by triple C-F bond cleavage of (trifluoromethyl)alkenes. This method features mild conditions, is operationally simple, is free of transition metals and racemization, can be used on a gram scale, and is compatible with various functional moieties. Abstract
A three-component strategy was developed to enable hydrodefluoroamination of β-trifluoromethyl enones by selectively activating two C(sp3)-F bonds in the trifluoromethyl group. The method involved a sequence of carbonyl reduction, hydrodefluorination, and defluoroamination under transition-metal-free conditions. Synthetically useful (E)-stereospecific α-fluoroenamides were obtained in good yields with diverse functional group tolerance, which could be easily transformed into valuable organofluorides and heterocycles. The carbonyl auxiliary exerts both electronic and steric impacts on the CF3-alkenes, allowing for controllable and selective defluorination.

Abstract
Much progress has been made in the development of methods to both create compounds that contain C-F bonds and to functionalize C-F bonds. As such, C-F bonds are becoming common and versatile synthetic functional handles. This review summarizes the advantages of defluorinative functionalization reactions for small molecule synthesis. The coverage is organized by the type of carbon framework the fluorine is attached to for mono- and polyfluorinated motifs. The main challenges, opportunities and advances of defluorinative functionalization are discussed for each class of organofluorine. Most of the text focuses on case studies that illustrate how defluorofunctionalization can improve routes to synthetic targets or how the properties of C-F bonds enable unique mechanisms and reactions. The broader goal is to showcase the opportunities for incorporating and exploiting C-F bonds in the design of synthetic routes, improvement of specific reactions and advent of new methods.

Abstract
A switchable synthesis of alcohols and ketones bearing a CF2-OR scaffold using visible-light promotion is described. The method of PDI catalysis is characterized by its ease of operation, broad substrate scopes, and the ability to switch between desired products without the need for transition metal catalysts. The addition or absence of a base plays a key role in controlling the synthesis of the major desired products.

Abstract
An alkyl radical-triggered dual C-F bond cleavage of α-CF3-ortho-hydroxystyrenes for the synthesis of 2-fluorobenzofurans was developed. The visible-light-induced defluorinative cross-coupling reactions of α-CF3-ortho-hydroxystyrenes with a variety of carboxylic acids produced gem-difluoroalkenes, which underwent SNV-type 5-endo-trig cyclization to give 2-fluorobenzofurans. Mechanistic studies indicated that the electron transfer between phenoxyl radicals and carboxylates was the major pathway for the generation of alkyl radicals.
