Abstract
We report herein our studies on the direct photoactivation of carbonyl cyclopropanes to give biradical intermediates, leading to selective cleavage of the more substituted carbon-carbon bond. Depending on the substrate structure, extended alkenes were isolated or directly reacted in a photo-Nazarov process to give bicyclic products. Based on these results, a unified reductive ring-opening reaction was developed by using diphenyl disulfide as a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) reagent. By performing a sequential cyclopropanation/selective ring opening reaction, we achieved a CH2 insertion into the α,β bond of both acyclic and cyclic unsaturated carbonyl compounds. Our protocol provides a further tool for the modification of the carbon framework of organic compounds, complementing the recent progress in "skeletal editing".

Abstract
The mechanistic understanding of how alkylamines impact Ni-metallophotoredox C-N coupling to form diarylamines remains unclear. In this study, 12-alkylamines were evaluated as additives to determine their effects on the synthesis of diarylamines in a flow photochemical system. Notably, n-hexylamine demonstrated the most significant promotional effect. Spectroscopic studies and experimental data reveal n-hexylamine substitutes DABCO as a Ni catalyst ligand, enhancing yields particularly in sterically hindered arylamines.

Abstract
We report herein the enantioselective photoinduced Nazarov reaction using a relay strategy of an electrocyclization, followed by parallel kinetic resolution (PKR). No enantioselectivity was observed during electrocyclization due to weak coordination between chiral ligands and the substrate's carbonyl group. However, PKR was successfully achieved in the deprotonation step with a bifunctional chiral thiourea ligand. Regioselective deprotonation, controlled by the chiral N,N-dimethyl amine motif, produced cis-6,5,6-fused tricyclic stereoisomers with high ee and yields.

Abstract
We report herein the first asymmetric photoinduced excited-state Nazarov reaction of non-aromatic dicyclic divinyl ketones by using hydrogen-bonding catalysis. The enantioselectivity of photoinduced electrocyclization is highly dependent on the structural features of the substrate and its interaction with chiral catalysts. For the simple dicyclic divinyl ketone substrates, there is no discernible selectivity of the hydrogen bond coordination between the thiourea and carbonyl groups of the substrates in the ground state. However, we found that the direction of the electrocyclization was well controlled in each coordination model and the N,N'-dimethylamine motif acts as a base in the regioselective deprotonation process, which leads to the formation of two stereoisomers with high enantioselectivity. Photolysis of dicyclic divinyl ketones bearing a 1,3-dioxolane motif in the presence of bifunctional hybrid peptide-thiourea chiral catalysts gave the tricyclic cis-hydrofluorenones with good enantioselectivity. Mechanistic and DFT studies suggested that the amide and thiourea groups in the bifunctional chiral catalysts play a key role as H-bond donors, which coordinate with both the carbonyl group and the 1,3-dioxolane motif to provide a more favorable chiral species, and control the direction of the electrocyclization. Due to the presence of the rigid 1,3-dioxolane ring, the deprotonation/protonation process occurs regiospecifically with high driving force. This photo-electrocyclization is mild (room temperature and neutral solution), which results a broad reaction scope and functional group tolerance and demonstrates its synthetic potential in organic synthesis.

Abstract
1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) is a polar, strongly hydrogen bond-donating solvent that has found numerous uses in organic synthesis due to its ability to stabilize ionic species, transfer protons, and engage in a range of other intermolecular interactions. The use of this solvent has exponentially increased in the past decade and has become a solvent of choice in some areas, such as C-H functionalization chemistry. In this review, following a brief history of HFIP in organic synthesis and an overview of its physical properties, literature examples of organic reactions using HFIP as a solvent or an additive are presented, emphasizing the effect of solvent of each reaction.

Abstract
The SnCl4 mediated reactions of cross conjugated aryl enynone-Co2(CO)6 and dienynone-Co2(CO)6 complexes afford benzocycloheptynone complexes or cycloheptenynone complexes in a thermal vinylogous Nazarov process. The rate of ring closure is strongly dependent on the ketone α-substituent.

Abstract
The reaction conditions and scope of the excited-state Nazarov reaction of dicyclicvinyl ketones were studied. The stereochemistry of this electrocyclization is consistent with the mechanism of the pericyclic reaction and Woodward-Hoffmann rule. UV-light-promoted excited-state Nazarov reactions gave hydrofluorenones bearing a syn-cis configuration via a disrotatory cyclization. The core tricyclic hydrofluorenones of pyrrocidines and wortmannines were constructed via the excited-state Nazarov reactions, which demonstrated their synthetic potential in complex natural product total synthesis.

Abstract
The cyclization of a series of nonheterocyclic allenyl aryl ketones was examined using boron trifluoride etherate and indium triflate to mediate the reaction. Yields with BF3 were low in most instances due mainly to competitive destruction of the substrates. With In(OTf)3, there was less decomposition, and the yields of the cyclized product were much higher, but only for substrates with electron-donating substituents. Cyclization did not occur without those substituents. A computational study using the ωB97X-D/6-311+G(2d,p)//ωB97X-D/6-31+G(d,p) method confirmed better stability of the σ-complexed substrate by indium(III) and that meta-substituents on the phenyl ring of the substrate significantly influenced the activation barrier of the cyclization, whereas the effect of para-substituents was almost negligible. The computational results supported the idea that the cyclization is a 4π-electrocyclization and not a 5-endo-dig ring closure as had been proposed in the literature.
