Abstract
Isocyanide is a promising synthetic reagent not only as a one-carbon homologation reagent but also as a nitrogen source for nitrogen-containing molecules. Because of their isoelectronic structure with carbon monoxide, isocyanides also react with nucleophiles, electrophiles, carbon radicals, and transition metal reagents, and are widely used in organic synthesis. On the other hand, the use of isocyanides in reactions with heteroatom radicals is limited. However, the reaction of isocyanides with heteroatom radicals is a promising synthetic tool for the construction of nitrogen-containing organic molecules modified with a variety of heteroatoms. In this Perspective, we review the addition and cyclization reactions of heteroatom radicals with isocyanides and discuss the synthetic prospects of the reaction of isocyanides with heteroatom radicals.

Abstract
Herein, we present a radical cascade addition cyclization sequence to access quinoline-based benzophosphole oxides from ortho-alkynylated aromatic phosphine oxides using various aryl isonitriles as radical acceptors and inexpensive tert-butyl-hydroperoxide (TBHP) as a terminal oxidant in the presence of a catalytic amount of silver acetate. Alternatively, the same cascade can be realized through a sustainable photochemical approach utilizing 1,2,3,5-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene (4CzIPN) as an organic photocatalyst at room temperature. The introduced modular approach shows broad functional group tolerance and offers straightforward access to complex P,N-containing polyheterocyclic arenes. These novel π-extended benzophosphole oxides exhibit interesting photophysical and electrochemical properties such as absorption in the visible region, emission and reversible reduction at low potentials, which makes them promising for potential materials science applications. The photophysical properties can further be tuned by the addition of external Lewis and Brønsted acids.

Abstract
A silver-catalyzed chemoselective cascade nucleophilic addition of a P-centered anion to isocyanides and cyclization reaction was developed for the efficient and practical synthesis of a wide range of 2-phosphinoyl indole and indol-3-ol derivatives. Unlike the well-documented synthesis of phosphorus-functionalized heterocycles via a P-centered radical, an anionic reactivity profile of phosphine oxides is most likely involved in this domino transformation.

Abstract
An efficient divergent approach to functionalized naphthalene derivatives, the naphthalenamides, via base-mediated and silver-catalyzed cyclization has been developed using enone-oxazolones as the precursors. This protocol utilized base in methanol with heating to construct the corresponding hydroxynaphthalenamides 2 by a C-C bond formation, oxazolone ring-opening, and aromatization in good yields. On the other hand, phosphorylated dihydronaphthylamides 3 were generated by using H-phosphonate as the phosphonating reagent in a silver-catalyzed cyclization involving the phospha-1,4-addition/intramolecular ring closure with concomitant C-P/C-C bond formation in good yields.

Abstract
An efficient procedure to access a variety of connected imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine and benzimidazole skeletons through the C-N bond was described as a new type of Buchwald-Hartwig reaction. Furthermore, the bis(imidazo[1,2-a]pyridin-3-yl)aryl-1,2-diamine scaffolds were obtained by changing the equivalent ratio of the starting materials. Some advantages of the protocol are the formation of four new bonds (C═C, C-N), a transition-metal-free reaction, a broad substrate scope, high yields, and mild reaction conditions. The reaction mechanism was confirmed on the basis of DFT calculations.

Abstract
Visible light-mediated facile synthesis of heteroarenes, namely, isoquinolines, benzothiazoles, and quinazolines, is demonstrated by employing isocyanides and inexpensive acyl peroxides. It is shown for the first time that singlet-excited isocyanides decompose acyl peroxides into aryl/alkyl radicals. The latter attack isocyanides, yielding imidoyl radicals that subsequently cyclize to afford heteroarene products. The protocol involving radical cascade reactions obviates the requirement of any external photocatalyst, oxidant, additive, and base.

Abstract
An electro-triggered cascade cyclization strategy was disclosed with concomitant phosphinylation and N-heterocycle construction. It provides a novel and environmentally friendly approach to access phosphinyl-substituted N-heterocycles with no external metal catalyst, oxidant, or heating. Mechanistic studies have revealed that anodic oxidation of H-phosphorus compounds occurs first to generate the key P-centered radical directly and cathodic reduction leads to the concurrent release of molecular hydrogen or methane. This protocol features simple operation, broad substrate scope, clean and mild conditions, and atom and step economy to form heterocycle-containing organophosphorus scaffolds.

Abstract
The cycloaddition reaction of o-diisocyanoarenes with interelement compounds under light is a very important reaction system to clarify whether this reaction proceeds by radical cyclization or by aza-Bergman cyclization. In this study, a series of diphosphines with phosphorus-phosphorus single bonds were selected as interelement compounds, and their cycloaddition reactions with o-diisocyanoarenes under light were investigated in detail to achieve a novel photoinduced synthesis of bisphosphinated quinoxalines via the radical cyclization pathway. In addition, the photoinduced reaction of diphosphines with isocyanides having o-functional groups such as cyano and ethenyl groups allowed us to elucidate the reaction pathway and product selectivity of this bisphosphination. Furthermore, the one-pot synthesis of PdII -quinoxaline complex was successfully achieved by applying the developed reaction.

Abstract
The nitrile or cyano (-CN) group is one of the most appreciated and effective functional groups in organic synthesis, having a polar unsaturated C-N triple bond. Despite sufficient stability and being intrinsically inert, the nitrile group can be easily transformed into many other functional groups, such as amines, carboxylic acids, ketones, etc. which makes it a vital group in organic synthesis. On the other hand, despite several boronic acids having a low level of genotoxicity, they have found wide applicability in the field of organic synthesis, especially in transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Recently, transition-metal-catalyzed cascade additions or addition/cyclization processes of boronic acids to the nitrile group open up exciting and useful strategies to prepare a variety of functional molecules through the formation of C-C, C-N and CO bonds. Boronic acids can be added to the cyano functionality through catalytic carbometallation or through a radical cascade process to provide newer pathways for the rapid construction of various important acyclic ketones or amides, carbamidines, carbocycles and N,O-heterocycles. The present review focuses on various transition-metal-catalyzed additions of boronic acids via carbometallation or radical cascade processes using the cyano group as an acceptor.

Highly Regioselective Tandem Reaction of Ene-Yne-Oxazolones Induced by H-Phosphonates: Construction of Phosphinylindane Derivatives. J Org Chem 2021; 86:9360-9383. Abstract
A highly regioselective divergent approach for the phosphine-containing indane/indene derivatives from the ene-yne-oxazolone precursors was reported. An insight into the reaction mechanism involving the phospha-1,4-addition followed by 5-exo-dig ring closure with a concomitant C-P/C-C bond formation was also proposed. This promising protocol utilized H-phosphonate as the phosphonating reagent in a silver-catalyzed or base-mediated cascade cyclization to construct the corresponding phosphorylated spiroindenoxazolones and amidoindenes, respectively, in good yields (up to 88% yield).

Abstract
The introduction of phosphorus functional groups into the skeleton of thioflavones is an attractive task and of great significance. Herein, a metal-free visible-light-induced radical cascade cyclization was developed for the preparation of 2-phosphorylated thioflavones from methylthiolated alkynones and phosphine oxides. In water as a green reaction medium, a large number of such 2-phosphorylated thioflavones were prepared, catalyzed by 4CzIPN [1,2,3,5-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene] under visible-light irradiation. These reactions could be performed at ambient temperature and feature simple operation, wide reaction scope, and recyclability of aqueous media.

Abstract
A simple and practical method for the synthesis of phosphoryl-substituted indolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-6(5H)-ones and benzimidazo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-6(5H)-ones through manganese(iii)-promoted tandem phosphinoylation/cyclization of 2-arylindoles or 2-arylbenzimidazoles with disubstituted phosphine oxides was developed. In this transformation, new C-P bond and C-C bond were constructed simultaneously under silver-free conditions, exhibiting a broad substrate scope. It was noted that not only diarylphosphine oxides but also dialkyl and arylalkyl-phosphine oxides were compatible with the conditions.

Abstract
A novel and practical fluoroalkyl radical-initiated cascade reaction was developed to access diverse 2-fluoroalkylbenzothiazoles by reacting various fluoroalkyl radical sources, including perfluoroalkyl iodide (IC nF2 n+1, n = 3-8, 10), ICF(CF3)2, ICF2COOEt, ICF2CF2Cl, or ICF2CF2Br, tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine (TMEDA), and 2-isocyanoaryl thioethers in tetrahydrofuran under nitrogen atmosphere and blue-light irradiation conditions. Furthermore, this one-pot protocol could well be expanded to access various 2-fluoroalkylbenzoselenazoles starting from (2-isocyanophenyl)(methyl)selane, perfluoroalkyl iodides (IC nF2 n+1, n = 3-8) or ICF2COOEt and TMEDA.
