Abstract
The palladium-catalyzed dehydrogenative [4+2] annulation of 1-indanones with alkynes has been reported. In this protocol, the palladium-catalyzed desaturation of 1-indanones to indenones occurs, followed by the palladium catalyzed oxidative cyclization of indenones with alkynes, generating diverse benzo[c]fluorenone derivatives in satisfactory yields and regioselectivity.

Abstract
A practical and effective nickel-catalyzed dehydrogenative [4 + 2] annulation of 1-indanones with alkynes was reported. In this protocol, nickel-catalyzed desaturation of 1-indanones and nickel hydride catalyzed coupling with alkynes were first incorporated. A cyclopentadiene-type nickel hydride species was generated in situ via β-H elimination, and they subsequently reacted with a wide variety of alkynes to afford various benzo[a]fluorenone derivatives in good yields and regioselectivity.

Abstract
Catalytic cyclotrimerization routes to symmetrical [9]helical indenofluorene were explored by using different transition-metal complexes and thermal conditions. Depending on the reaction conditions, the cyclotrimerizations were accompanied by dehydro-Diels-Alder reaction giving rise to another type of aromatic compounds. Structures of both symmetrical [9]helical cyclotrimerization product as well as the dehydro-Diels-Alder product were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. Limits of enantioselective cyclotrimerization were assessed as well. DFT calculations shed light on the reaction course and the origin of diminished enantioselectivity.

Abstract
This report illustrates the rapid construction of two divergent classes of polycyclic frameworks, benzo[a]fluorenones and spiro-chromenone indenes, via a double Heck cascade and an acid-driven cyclization from easily accessible precursors, alkyl 2-bromocinnamate esters and diphenylacetylenes. The present strategy has surveyed a broad substrate scope and delivered an array of products with interesting structural features. Besides, fluorescence studies were performed for the synthesized benzo[a]fluorenones.

Abstract
An efficient, base-promoted, one-pot, metal-free, open-flask synthesis of diverse, functionally enriched benzo[b]fluoren-11-ones has been discovered, and wide applicability of this exceptionally simple protocol with green flavors has been scoped. This synthesis proceeds via an unanticipated, tandem, double-aldol condensation between in situ-generated 1-indanone dianions and o-bis-ynones to furnish benzo[b]fluoren-11-ones harboring as many as six variegated substituents on their tetracyclic framework. This methodology has also been amplified to access heterocyclic analogues 2- and 4-azabenzo[b]fluorenones of benzo[b]fluoren-11-ones and extended to mixed linear-angular annulated pentacyclic dibenzo[a,h]fluoren-13-one.

Abstract
2,3-Dichloro-5,6-dicyano-1,4-benzoquinone (DDQ) is a commonly known oxidant. Herein, we report that DDQ can be used to synthesize 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles and quinazolin-4(3H)-ones via the intra- and intermolecular C-N coupling reaction under solvent-free mechanochemical (ball milling) conditions. In the presence of DDQ, the intramolecular C(sp2)-H amidation of N-(2-(arylideneamino)phenyl)-p-toluenesulfonamides leads to 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles and the one-pot coupling of 2-aminobenzamides with aryl/alkyl aldehydes resulted in substituted quinazolin-4(3H)-one derivatives in high yields.

Abstract
Herein, a facile diversity-oriented approach to access functionalized benzo[a]fluorenes, benzo[b]fluorenones, and naphthyl ketones has been demonstrated via site-selective intramolecular cyclization of aryl-fused 1,6-diyn-3-ones. Synthesis of benzo[a]fluorenes and naphthyl ketones has been achieved selectively using TfOH and AgBF4, respectively, via in situ-formed acetals. Aryl-fused 1,6-diyn-3-ones undergo triflic acid-mediated intramolecular cyclization, leading to benzo[b]fluorenone derivatives via a radical intermediate as supported by EPR studies. Kinetic studies of these transformations have also been performed by UV-visible spectroscopic analysis to shed light on the reaction profile.
