Abstract
Designing and modulating the electronic and spatial environments surrounding metal centers is a crucial issue in a wide range of chemistry fields that use organometallic compounds. Herein, we demonstrate a Lewis-acid-mediated reversible expansion, contraction, and transformation of the spatial environment surrounding nickel(0) centers that bear N-phosphine oxide-substituted N-heterocyclic carbenes (henceforth referred to as (S)PoxIms). Reaction between tetrahedral (syn-κ-C,O-(S)PoxIm)Ni(CO)2 and Al(C6F5)3 smoothly afforded heterobimetallic Ni/Al species such as trigonal-planar {κ-C-Ni(CO)2}(μ-anti-(S)PoxIm){κ-O-Al(C6F5)3} via a complexation-induced rotation of the N-phosphine oxide moieties, while the addition of 4-dimethylaminopyridine resulted in the quantitative regeneration of the former Ni complexes. The corresponding interconversion also occurred between (SPoxIm)Ni(η2:η2-diphenyldivinylsilane) and {κ-C-Ni(η2:η2-diene)}(μ-anti-SPoxIm){κ-O-Al(C6F5)3} via the coordination and dissociation of Al(C6F5)3. The shape and size of the space around the Ni(0) center was drastically changed through this Lewis-acid-mediated interconversion. Moreover, the multinuclear NMR, IR, and XAS analyses of the aforementioned carbonyl complexes clarified the details of the changes in the electronic states on the Ni centers; i.e., the electron delocalization was effectively enhanced among the Ni atom and CO ligands in the heterobimetallic Ni/Al species. The results presented in this work thus provide a strategy for reversibly modulating both the electronic and spatial environment of organometallic complexes, in addition to the well-accepted Lewis-base-mediated ligand-substitution methods.

Abstract
The phosphine-borane iPr2P(o-C6H4)BFxyl2 (Fxyl = 3,5-(F3C)2C6H3) 1-Fxyl was found to promote the reductive elimination of ethane from [AuMe2(μ-Cl)]2. Nuclear magnetic resonance monitoring revealed the intermediate formation of the (1-Fxyl)AuMe2Cl complex. Density functional theory calculations identified a zwitterionic path as the lowest energy profile, with an overall activation barrier more than 10 kcal/mol lower than without borane assistance. The Lewis acid moiety first abstracts the chloride to generate a zwitterionic Au(III) complex, which then readily undergoes C(sp3)-C(sp3) coupling. The chloride is finally transferred back from boron to gold. The electronic features of this Lewis-assisted reductive elimination at gold have been deciphered by intrinsic bond orbital analyses. Sufficient Lewis acidity of boron is required for the ambiphilic ligand to trigger the C(sp3)-C(sp3) coupling, as shown by complementary studies with two other phosphine-boranes, and the addition of chlorides slows down the reductive elimination of ethane.

Abstract
Bis(perchlorocatecholato)silane and bidentate N,N- or N,P-heteroleptic donors were reacted to form hexacoordinated complexes. Depending on the ring strain and hemilability in the adducts, frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) reactivity with aldehydes and catalytic ammonia borane dehydrocoupling was enabled. All reactions were analyzed using density functional theory. This approach represents an alternative way, beyond relying on steric bulk, to achieve frustration in bimolecular FLPs.

Abstract
The ability of a phosphine-appended-2,2'-bipyridine ligand ((Ph2P)2bpy) to serve as a platform for late-stage ligand modifications was evaluated using tetrahedral (Ph2P)2bpyFeCl2. We employed a post-metalation Staudinger reaction to install a series of functionalized arenes, including those containing Brønsted and Lewis acidic groups. This reaction sequence represents a versatile strategy to both tune the ligand donor properties as well as directly incorporate appended functionality.

Abstract
Iron complexes supported by novel π-acidic bis(imino)pyrazine (PPzDI) ligands can be functionalized at the nonligated nitrogen atom, and this has a marked effect on the redox properties of the resulting complexes. Dearomatization is observed in the presence of cobaltocene, which reversibly reduces the pyrazine core and not the imine functionality, as observed in the case of the pyridinediimine-ligated iron analogues. The resulting ligand-based radical is prone to dimerization through the formation of a long carbon-carbon bond, which can be subsequently cleaved under mild oxidative conditions.

Abstract
Presented herein is a set of bimetallic and trimetallic "coordination booster-catalyst" assemblies in which the coordination complexes [RuII (terpy)2 ] and [OsII (terpy)2 ] acted as boosters for enhancement of the catalytic activity of [RuII (NHC)(para-cymene)]-based catalytic site. The boosters accelerated the oxidative loss of para-cymene from the catalytic site to generate the active catalyst during the oxidation of alkenes and alkynes into corresponding aldehydes, ketones and diketones. It was found that the boosting efficiency of the [OsII (terpy)2 ] units was considerably higher than its congener [RuII (terpy)2 ] unit in these assemblies. Mechanistic studies were conducted to understand this unique improvement.

The unique combination of a divalent
organolanthanide fragment,
Cp*2Yb, with bipyrimidine (bipym) and a palladium
bis-alkyl fragment, PdMe2, allows the rapid formation and
stabilization of a PdIV tris-alkyl moiety after oxidative
addition with MeI. The crucial role of the organolanthanide
fragment is demonstrated by the substitution of bipym by the 4,5,9,10-tetraazaphenanthrene
ligand, which drastically modifies the electronic structure and tunes
the stability of the PdIV species.

Abstract
4,5-Diazafluoren-9-one (DAF) has been identified as a highly effective ligand in a number of Pd-catalyzed oxidation reactions, but the mechanistic basis for its utility has not been elucidated. Here, we present the complex coordination chemistry of DAF and palladium(II) carboxylate salts. Multiple complexes among an equilibrating mixture of species have been characterized by (1)H and (15)N NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. These complexes include monomeric and dimeric Pd(II) species, with monodentate (κ(1)), bidentate (κ(2)), and bridging (μ:κ(1):κ(1)) DAF coordination modes. Titration studies of DAF and Pd(OAc)2 reveal the formation of two dimeric DAF/Pd(OAc)2 complexes at low [DAF] and four monomeric species at higher [DAF]. The dimeric complexes feature two bridging acetate ligands together with either a bridging or nonbridging (κ(1)) DAF ligand coordinated to each Pd(II) center. The monomeric structures consist of three isomeric Pd(κ(1)-DAF)2(OAc)2 complexes, together with Pd(κ(2)-DAF)(OAc)2 in which the DAF exhibits a traditional bidentate coordination mode. Replacing DAF with the structurally related, but more-electron-rich derivative 9,9-dimethyl-4,5-diazafluorene (Me2DAF) simplifies the equilibrium mixture to two complexes: a dimeric species in which the Me2DAF bridges the two Pd centers and a monomeric species with a traditional κ(2)-Me2DAF coordination mode. The use of DAF in combination with other carboxylate ligands (CF3CO2(-) or tBuCO2(-)) also results in a simplified collection of equilibrating Pd(II)-DAF complexes. Collectively, the results highlight the ability of DAF to equilibrate rapidly among multiple coordination modes, and provide valuable insights into the utility of DAF as a ligand in Pd-catalyzed oxidation reactions.
