Abstract
We report a domino reaction of 2-(2-acylvinyl)indoles as well as the corresponding pyrroles with styrylsulfonium salts under mild conditions, affording cyclopropamitosene analogues in high yields and complete diastereoselectivity. A wide range of (E)-β-hetaryl-α,β-unsaturated ketones were successfully employed for the synthesis of potentially bioactive cyclopropa[3,4]pyrrolo[1,2-a]indoles and related cyclopropa[a]pyrrolizines, demonstrating the versatility of the developed method. In contrast, (Z)-isomers of the substrates fail to give cyclopropamitosene derivatives but undergo cyclopropanation of the terminal methyl group.

Abstract
Pyrroles and indoles bearing N-allenyl tethers participate in a variety of iridium-catalyzed cycloisomerization processes initiated by a C-H activation step, to deliver a diversity of synthetically relevant azaheterocyclic products. By appropriate selection of the ancillary ligand and the substitution pattern of the allene, the reactions can diverge from simple intramolecular hydrocarbonations to tandem processes involving intriguing mechanistic issues. Accordingly, a wide range of heterocyclic structures ranging from dihydro-indolizines and pyridoindoles to tetrahydroindolizines, as well as cyclopropane-fused tetrahydroindolizines can be obtained. Moreover, by using chiral ligands, these cascade processes can be carried out in an enantioselective manner. DFT studies provide insights into the underlying mechanisms and justify the observed chemo- regio- and stereoselectivities.

Abstract
Herein, we present a straightforward approach to access hydroindoline-5-one-based 6/5/3-fused polycyclic ring structures through multistep cascade reactions involving α-aryl vinylsulfoniums and para-quinamines. The reactions proceed smoothly under mild conditions to deliver the desired products in generally good isolated yields. This protocol is also applicable to the cascade cycloaddition reactions of α-aryl vinylsulfoniums and para-quinols, effectively generating complex tricyclic scaffolds. In addition, the scale-up synthesis and further derivatizations demonstrate the potential synthetic application of the protocol.

Abstract
A convenient synthetic protocol for regioselective and diastereoselective construction of complex dispiro-indanone-fluorenone-oxindole motifs was developed by the base-promoted annulation reaction of bindone and MBH carbonates of isatins by adjusting reaction conditions. DABCO promoted the annulation reaction of bindone and MBH carbonates of isatins in DCM at room temperature, affording dispiro[indene-2,4'-fluorene-1',3″-indoline] derivatives in good yields and with high diastereoselectivity. Triethylamine promoted the annulation reaction of two molecular 1,3-indanediones and MBH esters of isatins in ethanol at elevated temperature and selectively gave dispiro[indene-2,4'-fluorene-3',3″-indolines] in moderate yields. However, triethylamine promoted the annulation reaction of excess 1,3-indanediones and MBH esters of isatins in refluxing ethanol, affording dispiro[indene-2,4'-fluorene-3',3″-indolines] with the Z-isomer as the major product and the E-isomer as the minor product.

Abstract
We report an unexpected dearomative periphery modification strategy for transforming quinolinium salts into structurally crowded pyrrolidine-tetrahydroquinoline polycyclic systems with complete regio- and diastereoselectivity. Importantly, the reaction pathway was regulated by simply tuning the substituents, achieving substituent-directed divergent synthesis. The notable features of this transformation include readily available starting materials, green conditions, a simple workup procedure, high bond- and ring-forming efficiency, and substituent-directed diverse synthesis.

Abstract
The mechanism for DMAP-promoted [4 + 2]-annulation of prop-2-ynylsulfonium with isatoic anhydride is investigated using the M06-2X functional. The reaction comprises isomerization of prop-2-ynylsulfonium in stage 1. Stage 2 includes DMAP-promoted deprotonation, nucleophilic addition, ring opening, and decarboxylation. Three steps of intramolecular cycloaddition, DMAP-promoted protonation, and dealkylation occur in stage 3, generating methylated DMAP and neutral thioether, which undergo double-bond isomerization to yield 3-methylthio-4-quinolone. The ability of DMAP to promote the reaction lies in the barrier decrease for alkyne isomerization, deprotonation/protonation of allenes, and dealkylation as effective bases for transferring protons and methyl groups. The roles of prop-2-ynylsulfonium and isatoic anhydride were demonstrated to be C2 and C4 synthons via Multiwfn analysis on the frontier molecular orbital. An alternative path was also confirmed by the Mayer bond order of the vital transition states.

Abstract
An efficient decarboxylative [3 + 2] annulation reaction of ethynylethylene carbonates and azlactones has been developed with a copper salt as catalyst. This practical methodology gives access to a diverse library of γ-butyrolactones bearing α,β-two vicinal quaternary carbon centers in good to high yields with good levels of diastereoselectivities (up to 98% yield, >95:5 dr). Preliminary trials on enantioselective variant with a chiral PyBox ligand provided chiral products in up to 71% ee. This synthetic method features mild reaction conditions, broad functional group tolerance, large-scale synthesis, and versatile products transformation. A plausible catalytic cycle for the protocol is proposed based on previous related studies and our experimental observations.

Abstract
An S-selective arylation of pyridylsulfides with good functional group tolerance was developed. To demonstrate synthetic utility, the resulting pyridylsulfonium salts were used in a scalable transition-metal-free coupling protocol, yielding functionalized bipyridines with extensive functional group tolerance. This modular methodology permits selective introduction of functional groups from commercially available pyridyl halides, furnishing symmetrical and unsymmetrical 2,2'- and 2,3'-bipyridines. Iterative application of the methodology enabled the synthesis of a functionalized terpyridine with three different pyridine components.
