Abstract
The conjugate additions of nucleophiles to conjugate acceptors are among the most powerful hetero-carbon bond formation reactions. The conjugate addition normally occurs via a β-nucleophilic addition, resulting in the formation of a stabilized α-carbanion intermediate that can be subsequently quenched by electrophiles or protons. Nevertheless, the inverse conjugate addition involving an α-specific nucleophilic addition remains less explored because of the electronic mismatch. In this research, we disclosed an α-specific nucleophilic addition of the nucleophiles including Py·HF, TBACl, HOR, H2O, H218O, RCO2H, and pyrazole to conjugate acceptors concurrent with a trifluoromethylation. This umpolung and inversely regioselective conjugate addition, enabled by a visible light-induced redox photocatalysis, occurred via an unusual α-nucleophilic addition other than the normal β-nucleophilic addition to efficiently generate diverse α-functionalized CF3-containing amides/esters. The broad substrate scope, excellent functional-group tolerance, and versatile late-stage derivatizations as well as the biologically and functionally important CF3-containing products demonstrated the potential applications of this protocol in materials, agrochemicals, and pharmaceutical chemistry.

Abstract
A strategy for convenient and precise oxidative aminotrifluoromethylation of 1,4-naphthoquinone with the Togni reagent and amines has been demonstrated via a radical process. This method allows efficient access for the preparation of a wide range of CF3-functionalized 1,4-naphthoquinones under mild conditions, and its application in late-stage modification of drug molecules is achieved. Mechanistic studies indicate that 1,4-naphthoquinone serves as both a substrate and a catalyst and that the Togni reagent plays a dual role of a substrate and an oxidant. As a result, the title reaction can take place in the dark without external catalysts and oxidants.

Abstract
Radical transformations are powerful in organic synthesis for the construction of molecular scaffolds and introduction of functional groups. In radical difunctionalization reactions, the radicals in the first functionalized intermediates can be relocated through resonance, hydrogen atom or group transfer, and ring opening. The resulting radical intermediates can undertake the following paths for the second functionalization: (1) couple with other radical groups, (2) oxidize to cations and then react with nucleophiles, (3) reduce to anions and then react with electrophiles, (4) couple with metal-complexes. The rearrangements of radicals provide the opportunity for the synthesis of 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,5-, 1,6-, and 1,7-difunctionalization products. Multiple ways to initiate the radical reaction coupling with intermediate radical rearrangements make the radical reactions good for difunctionalization at the remote positions. These reactions offer the advantages of synthetic efficiency, operation simplicity, and product diversity.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed enantioselective functionalization of acyl radicals has so far not been realized, probably due to their relatively high reactivity, which renders the chemo- and stereocontrol challenging. Herein, we describe Cu(I)-catalyzed enantioselective desymmetrizing C-O bond coupling of acyl radicals. This reaction is compatible with (hetero)aryl and alkyl aldehydes and, more importantly, displays a very broad scope of challenging alcohol substrates, such as 2,2-disubstituted 1,3-diols, 2-substituted-2-chloro-1,3-diols, 2-substituted 1,2,3-triols, 2-substituted serinols, and meso primary 1,4-diols, providing enantioenriched esters characterized by challenging acyclic tetrasubstituted carbon stereocenters. Partnered by one- or two-step follow-up transformations, this reaction provides a convenient and practical strategy for the rapid preparation of chiral C3 building blocks from readily available alcohols, particularly the industrially relevant glycerol. Mechanistic studies supported the proposed C-O bond coupling of acyl radicals.

Abstract
A manganese-catalyzed radical relay strategy for the remote trifluoromethylation-peroxidation of unactivated alkenes is disclosed. The electrophilic CF3 group was added to the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C double bonds to afford remote C-centered radicals upon 1,5-HAT, which could be efficiently trapped by Mnn+1OOBu-t species to deliver 1,6-difunctionalized products selectively under mild conditions. t-BuOOH serves as both the oxidant and the peroxy precursor in this transformation.

Abstract
A novel α,α'-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN)-induced remote trifluoromethyl-alkynylation of thioalkynes with alkynyl triflones as both the trifluoromethyl and alkyne sources is described. Structurally diverse trifluoromethylated (Z)-enynes can be constructed with full control of regio-, stereo-, and site-selectivity, which serves as a highly selective method for the rapid construction of trifluoromethylated molecules.

Abstract
In spite of only a few naturally occurring products having one or more fluorine atoms, organofluorine compounds have been widely utilized in pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and functional material science fields due to the characteristic properties of the fluorine atom. Therefore, the development of new methods for the introduction of fluorine-containing functional groups has been a long-standing research topic. This article discusses our contributions to this area. The first topic is on the trifluoromethylations of C-C multiple bonds using Togni reagent based on our working hypothesis that hypervalent iodine could be activated by coordination of the carbonyl moiety to the Lewis acid catalyst. The second topic relates to asymmetric fluorofunctionalization of alkenes. A newly designed phase-transfer catalyst consisting of a carboxylate anion functioning as a phase-transfer agent and a primary hydroxyl group as a site that captures the anionic substrate was revealed to be an effective catalyst for asymmetric fluorolactonization. Inspired by the mechanistic studies of fluorolactonization, we produced a linked binaphthyl dicarboxylate catalyst, which catalyzes the 6-endo-fluorocyclization and the deprotonative fluorination of allylic amides in a highly enantioselective manner. The third topic is on C-H fluorofunctionalizations using either catalysis or photoactivation. Benzylic trifluoromethylation, which is still a rare reaction, using Togni reagent and aromatic C-H trifluoromethylation using Umemoto reagent under simple photoirradiation conditions were achieved. In addition, the Csp3-H fluorination of alkyl phthalimide derivatives is demonstrated.

Abstract
A Fe-catalyzed domino Knoevenagel-hetero-Diels-Alder reaction of alkenyl aldehydes and 1,3-diketones has been developed. It provides straightforward access to a series of oxabicyclo[3.3.1]nonene derivatives in promising yields with excellent diastereoselectivity and functional group tolerance. The resultant bridged dihydropyrans can be smoothly converted into chromene derivatives, thus highlighting the synthetic utility of this method.

Abstract
Copper- or silver-catalyzed cascade radical addition/dearomative spirocyclization of biaryl ynones with fluoroalkyl bromides or diethylphosphite has been realized for the first time. This method provides a novel and step-economical protocol for the divergent synthesis of a wide range of difluoromethylated or monofluoromethylated and phosphorated spiro[5.5]trienones in moderate to high yields.
