Abstract
We report two practical and step-economical methodologies for the chemodivergent synthesis of tri-substituted pyrroles and 3-oxazolines from the domino reactions of 2H-azirines and acetone. For instance, acetone served as a nucleophile to react with 2H-azirines under the basic conditions to furnish pyrroles. Upon changing the catalyst to TfOH, acetone served as an electrophile to synthesize 3-oxazolines. Moreover, the products could be synthesized on a gram scale, and the possible catalytic cycles were proposed.

Abstract
An efficient and general cascade synthesis of pyrroles from nitroarenes using an acid-tolerant homogeneous iron catalyst is presented. Initial (transfer) hydrogenation using the commercially available iron-Tetraphos catalyst is followed by acid catalysed Paal-Knorr condensation. Both formic acid and molecular hydrogen can be used as green reductants in this process. Particularly, under transfer hydrogenation conditions, the homogeneous catalyst shows remarkable reactivity at low temperatures, high functional group tolerance and excellent chemoselectivity transforming a wide variety of substrates. Compared to classical heterogeneous catalysts, this system presents complementing reactivity, showing none of the typical side reactions such as dehalogenation, debenzylation, arene or olefin hydrogenation. It thereby enhances the chemical toolbox in terms of orthogonal reactivity. The methodology was successfully applied to the late-stage modification of multi-functional drug(-like) molecules as well as to the one-pot synthesis of the bioactive agent BM-635.

Abstract
The Cu/ABNO-catalyzed aerobic oxidative coupling of diols and primary amines to access N-substituted pyrroles is highlighted (ABNO = 9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane N-oxyl). The reaction proceeds at room temperature with an O2 balloon as the oxidant using commercially available materials as the substrates and catalysts. The catalyst system is characterized by a broad range of substrates and a good tolerance to sensitive functional groups. The gram-scale experiment proves this system's practicability.

Abstract
Herein, a new strategy for the direct synthesis of functionalized pyrroles from β-amino alcohols and ynones via ruthenium-catalyzed acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling has been demonstrated. This developed methodology proceeds in an atom- and step-economic fashion together with the merits of broad substrate scope, operational simplicity, and water and hydrogen gas as the sole by-products, which provides an alternative and sustainable way to access functionalized pyrroles. Further, this method was applied to the rapid synthesis of the COX-1/COX-2 inhibitor and boron dipyrromethene derivative successfully.

Abstract
N-Heterocycles, such as pyrroles, pyrimidines, quinazolines, and quinoxalines, are important building blocks for organic chemistry and the fine-chemical industry. For their synthesis, catalytic borrowing hydrogen and acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling reactions of alcohols as sustainable reagents have received significant attention in recent years. To overcome the problems of product separation and catalyst reusability, several metal-based heterogeneous catalysts have been reported to achieve these transformations with good yields and selectivity. In this Minireview, we summarize recent developments using both noble and non-noble metal-based heterogeneous catalysts to synthesize N-heterocycles from alcohols and N-nucleophiles via acceptorless dehydrogenation or borrowing hydrogen methodologies. Furthermore, this Minireview introduces strategies for the preparation and functionalization of the corresponding heterogeneous catalysts, discusses the reaction mechanisms and the roles of metal electronic states, and the influence of support Lewis acid-base properties on these reactions.

Abstract
(1,n) annulation reactions using (de)-hydrogenative coupling with alcohols or diols represent a straightforward technique for the synthesis of cyclic moieties. Utilization of such renewable resources for chemical transformations in a one-pot manner is the main focus, which avoids generation of stoichiometric waste. Application of such (1,n) annulation approaches drives the catalysis research in a more sustainable way and generates dihydrogen and water as by-products. This feature article highlights the recent (from 2015 to March 2021) progress in the synthesis of stereo-selective cycloalkanes and cycloalkenes, saturated and unsaturated N-heterocycles (cyclic amine, imide, lactam, tetrahydro β-carboline, quinazoline, quinazolinone, 1,3,5-triazines etc.) and other N-heterocycles with the formation of multiple bonds in a one pot operation. Mechanistic studies, new catalytic approaches, and synthetic applications including drug synthesis and post-drug derivatization, scope, and limitations are discussed.

Abstract
(Cyclopentadienone)iron tricarbonyl complexes are catalytically active, inexpensive, easily accessible and air-stable that are extensively studied as an active pre-catalyst in homogeneous catalysis. Its versatile catalytic activity arises exclusively due to the presence of a non-innocent ligand, which can trigger its unique redox properties effectively. These complexes have been employed widely in (transfer)hydrogenation (e. g., reduction of polar multiple bonds, Oppenauer-type oxidation of alcohols), C-C and C-N bond formation (e. g., reductive aminations, α-alkylation of ketones) and other synthetic transformations. In this review, we discuss the remarkable advancement of its various synthetic applications along with synthesis and mechanistic studies, until February 2021.

Abstract
Reported herein is a synthetic method of polysubstituted pyrroles from easily available materials, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and primary amines, via electro-oxidative intermolecular annulation. Under similar conditions, enamines are also converted smoothly into desired products, indicating that in situ formed enamines are crucial intermediates for the first transformation. Neither transition-metal salts nor harsh conditions are required to facilitate the dehydrocyclization process.

Abstract
An acceptorless dehydrogenative strategy for the synthesis of polyfluoroalkylated bis-indoles is described by employing an earth-abundant nickel-based catalytic system under air. The notable feature of the present transformation is the use of bench stable and easily affordable polyfluorinated alcohols without any pre-functionalization for the introduction of precious polyfluoroalkyl groups. The developed straightforward protocol accomplished biologically relevant fluoroalkyl bis-indoles in a sustainable fashion. Extensive DFT study predicts the unique role of indole molecules which stabilizes the transition states during the dehydrogenation process of polyfluorinated alcohols, presumably through non-covalent π⋅⋅⋅π and H-bonding interactions.

Abstract
A modular and waste-free strategy for constructing N-substituted cyclic amines via decarboxylative N-alkylation of α-amino acids employing ruthenium- and iron-based catalysts is presented. The reported method allows the synthesis of a wide range of five- and six-membered N-alkylated heterocycles in moderate-to-excellent yields starting from predominantly proline and a broad range of benzyl alcohols, and primary and secondary aliphatic alcohols. Examples using pipecolic acid for the construction of piperidine derivatives, as well as the one-pot synthesis of α-amino nitriles, are also shown.

Abstract
Applications of Acceptorless Dehydrogenation (AD) process for the synthesis of important heterocycles are discussed. The key features of AD process are the generation of more reactive carbonyl/imine compounds from alcohols/amines by the release of dihydrogen as a stoichiometric byproduct. In this review, we document recent advances in this field by using first row transition metal catalysts and easily accessible coupling partners, thus offering cost-effective access to different heterocyclic rings.

Abstract
α-Azidochalcones were coupled with 1/2-naphthols or 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone using Ru(bpy)3(PF6)2 as a photocatalyst under blue LED light irradiation to yield 2,3-fused pyrroles in high yields (68-84%). The overall transformation involves photosensitized decomposition of α-azidochalcones into highly reactive 2 H-azirines which are trapped by 1/2-naphthols or 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone, leading to the construction of two new C-N and one new C-C bonds.
