Abstract
Here, we describe highly efficient intramolecular hydroarylations mediated by Re2O7/HReO4. Styrene derivatives of different electronic properties have been activated to effect a challenging intramolecular hydroarylation for the facile access to various substituted 1-aryltetralin structures. This method is characterized by mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope, high chemical yields, and 100% atom economy. The potential synthetic application of this methodology was exemplified by the efficient total synthesis of an isoCA-4 analogue.

Abstract
This review covers the synthetic applications of 1,4-dithianes, as well as derivatives thereof at various oxidation states. The selected examples show how the specific heterocyclic reactivity can be harnessed for the controlled synthesis of carbon-carbon bonds. The reactivity is compared to and put into context with more common synthetic building blocks, such as 1,3-dithianes and (hetero)aromatic building blocks. 1,4-Dithianes have as yet not been investigated to the same extent as their well-known 1,3-dithiane counterparts, but they do offer attractive transformations that can find good use in the assembly of a wide array of complex molecular architectures, ranging from lipids and carbohydrates to various carbocyclic scaffolds. This versatility arises from the possibility to chemoselectively cleave or reduce the sulfur-heterocycle to reveal a versatile C2-synthon.

Abstract
Recyclization of the ring-opening species of alkyl cyclopropyl ketones to cyclopentanones, which proceeds through an unfavored 5-endo-trig cyclization predicted by Baldwin's rules, is elusive. Herein, as assisted by a strong aryl donor and the Thorpe-Ingold strain on a quaternary cyclopropyl center, stereoconvergent direct ring expansion of cyclopropyl ketones to cyclopentanones promoted by TfOH or BF3·Et2O is described, providing a modular construction of polysubstituted cyclopentanones from aldehydes, alkyl methyl ketones, and α-keto esters within three steps.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the synthesis of indole-substituted indanes from o-alkenylbenzaldehydes under acetalization conditions has been presented. The cyclization occurs via a nucleophilic addition of indole on the oxacarbenium ion generated from acetal formed under the reaction condition followed by a conrotatory 4π-electrocyclization reaction, which takes care of the exclusive diastereoselectivity observed during the cyclization step. Olefin geometry of o-alkenylbenzaldehyde and the amount of indole play a decisive role in the success of this cyclization process.

Abstract
In contrast to transition metal-catalysed C-H functionalisation, highly efficient construction of C-C and C-X (X = N, O, S, B, Si, etc.) bonds through metal-free catalytic C-H functionalisation remains one of the most challenging tasks for synthetic chemists. In recent years, electron-deficient boron-based catalyst systems have exhibited great potential for C-H bond transformations. Such emerging systems may greatly enrich the chemistry of C-H functionalisation and main-group element catalysis, and will also provide enormous opportunities in synthetic chemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical biology. This article aims to give a timely comprehensive overview to recognise the current status of electron-deficient boron-based catalysis in C-H functionalisation and stimulate the development of more efficient catalytic systems.

Abstract
Readily prepared cis-β-(α',α'-dimethyl)-4'-methindolylstyrenes undergo acid-catalyzed intramolecular hydroindolation to afford tetrahydrobenzo[ cd]indoles. Our experimental and computational investigations suggest that dispersive interactions between the indole and styrene preorganize substrates such that 6-membered ring formation is preferred, apparently via concerted protonation and C-C bond formation. When dispersion is attenuated (by a substituent or heteroatom), regioselectivity erodes and competing oligomerization predominates for cis substrates. Similarly, all trans-configured substrates that we evaluated failed to cyclize efficiently.

Abstract
A general method for the regioselective synthesis of a series of ortho-substituted chrysenyl N, N-diethyl- O-carbamates by the directed ortho-metalation (D oM) strategy is reported. The starting O-carbamates were prepared from the corresponding chrysenols, available by oxidative photochemical cyclization or directed remote metalation tactics. Chrysen-1-yl and chrysene-3-yl ring site selectivity of directed ortho-metalation (D oM) and anionic ortho-Fries rearrangement (A oF) protocols, with s-BuLi/TMEDA, followed by electrophilic quench using a selection of electrophiles, were observed, leading to new chrysenyl derivatives. 5-Chrysenyl N,N-diethyl- O-carbamate underwent instant A oF rearrangement even at -100 °C to furnish chrysenyl o-hydroxycarboxamide. Iterative D oM reactions were carried out to gain insight into the regioselectivity factors.
