Abstract
This paper describes a novel coordinating activation strategy that enables the synthesis of medium-to-large sized rings (11-17 members) via an unprecedented difluoroalkylamidation cyclization of alkynes. This method provides an efficient platform for accessing skeleton-diverse difluoroalkyl-containing cyclic enamides with complete regio- and stereoselectivity. The protocol features broad substrate compatibility, functional group tolerance, and ease of use at dilution concentrations (50 mM) that are not high. Moreover, the synthetic utility of this difunctional cyclization is underscored by its application in the late-stage modification of complex molecules. Additionally, the click reaction facilitates the derivation of alkynyl-substituted cyclization products, demonstrating the methodology's potential in biological sciences.

Abstract
Sigma bond cleavage through electronically excited states allows synthetically useful transformations with two radical species. Direct excitation of simple aryl halides to form both aryl and halogen radicals necessitates UV-C light, so undesired side reactions are often observed and specific equipment is required. Moreover, only aryl halides with extended π systems and comparatively low triplet energy are applicable to synthetically useful energy transfer catalysis. Here we show the conceptual advantages of arylthianthrenium salts (ArTTs) for energy transfer catalysis with high energy efficiency compared to conventional aryl (pseudo)halides and their utility in arylation reactions of ethylene. The fundamental advance is enabled by the low triplet energy of ArTTs that may originate in large part from the electronic interplay between the distinct sulfur atoms in the tricyclic thianthrene scaffold, which is not accessible in either simple (pseudo)halides or other conventional sulfonium salts.

Abstract
Radical reactions are powerful in the synthesis of diverse molecular scaffolds bearing functional groups. In previous review articles, we have presented 1,2-difunctionalizations, remote 1,3-, 1,4-, 1,5-, 1,6- and 1,7-difunctionalizations, and addition followed by cyclization reactions. Presented in this paper is radical cyclization followed by the second functionalization reaction. The second functionalization could be realized by atom transfer reactions, radical or transition metal-assisted coupling reactions, and reactions with neutral molecules, cationic and anionic species.

Abstract
This study presents a convenient approach to the synthesis of indole- and benzofuran-based benzylic sulfones using unactivated alkynes containing aryl iodides and sodium sulfinates under visible light irradiation. The procedure involves a sequential series of dehalogenation, carbo-cyclization, and radical sulfonylation. Plausible insights into the reaction mechanism are derived from control experiments, leading to the proposal of a radical cascade reaction pathway.

Abstract
A visible-light-promoted and transition-metal-free photoredox-catalysis strategy is developed for the synthesis of thioxanthone derivatives (TXs). The mechanistic study and density functional theory calculations suggest that visible-light-promoted intramolecular cyclization can be divided into hydrogen atom transfer, C-C formation, and oxidative dehydrogenation with high regioselectivity and reactivity. Significantly, this C-C formation strategy can be used in TXs-based commercial photoinitiators and drugs at the gram level.

Abstract
Precise photochemical control, using two-photon excitation (2PE), of the timing and location of activation of glutamate is useful for studying the molecular and cellular physiology of the brain. Antenna-based light harvesting strategies represent a general method to increase the sensitivity to 2PE of otherwise insensitive photoremovable protecting groups (PPGs). This was applied to the most commonly used form of "caged" glutamate, MNI-Glu. Computational investigation showed that a four- or six-carbon linker attached between the 4-position of thioxanthone (THX) and the 4-position of the 5-methyl derivative of MNI-Glu (MMNI-Glu) would position the antenna and PPG close to one another to enable Dexter energy transfer. Nine THX-MMNI-Glu conjugates were prepared and their photochemical properties determined. Installation of the THX antenna resulted in a red shift of the absorption (λmax = 385-405 nm) along with increased quantum yield compared to the parent compound MNI-Glu (λmax = 347 nm). The THX-MMNI-Glu conjugate with a four-carbon linker and attachment to the 4-position of THX underwent photolysis via 1PE at 405 and 430 nm and via 2PE at 770 and 860 nm, yielding glutamate. The two-photon uncaging action cross section (δu) was 0.11 and 0.29 GM at 770 and 860, respectively, which was greater than for MNI-Glu (0.06 and 0.072 GM at 720 and 770 nm, respectively). The THX sensitizer harvested the light via 2PE and transferred its resulting triplet energy to MMNI-Glu. Release of glutamate through 2PE at 860 nm from the compound (100 μM) activated iGluSnFR, a genetically encoded, fluorescent glutamate sensor, on the surface of cells in culture, portending its usefulness in studies of neurophysiology in acute brain slice.

Abstract
An efficient three-component radical iodosulfonylative cyclization of enynes is described. The visible-light irradiation of iodoform with sulfinates enables sulfonyl radical generation under catalyst- and oxidant-free conditions and triggers the radical addition, cyclization and iodination cascade reactions, giving various vinyl iodide containing sulfones in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
An atom economical protocol for the construction of 9-(diorganomethylidene)fluorenes through palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions of 2-iodobiphenyls with alkenyl bromides has been reported. The reaction proceeds through the C-H activation/oxidative addition/reduction elimination/intramolecular Heck coupling reaction to afford a series of 9-(diorganomethylidene)fluorenes with good yields. Control experiments demonstrate that a five-membered palladacycle acts as a key intermediate and β-H elimination serves as the rate-limiting step.

Abstract
Photoorganocatalysis has been recognised by the organic chemistry community as an important part of photochemistry and catalysis. In general, aromatic ketones constitute key players in this type of catalysis as they are involved in a plethora of examples in the literature. Among the various aromatic ketones, thioxanthone (TX) seems to play a unique role in photochemistry. In comparison with other aromatic ketones, TX has a high triplet energy and a relatively long triplet lifetime, while it has the ability to participate successfully in merger reactions with metal complexes. In this review, we will discuss the photophysical properties of this small organic molecule, as well as the numerous examples of photochemical reactions, where it is employed as a mediator and more specifically in polymerisation reactions, and organic transformations.

Abstract
A three-component synthesis of multisubstituted fluorene derivatives has been developed by devising a rhodium-catalyzed stitching reaction/remote nucleophilic substitution sequence. A variety of nucleophiles can be installed in the second step including both heteroatom and carbon nucleophiles. An efficient synthesis of 5H-benzo[a]fluoren-5-ones has also been realized using N-(2-alkynyl)benzoylpyrrole as the reaction partner through a new reaction pathway.
