Abstract
We report three niobium-based initiators for the catalytic ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone, exhibiting good activity and molecular weight control. In particular, we have prepared on the gram-scale and fully characterized a monometallic cationic alkoxo-Nb(V) ε-caprolactone adduct representing, to the best of our knowledge, an unprecedented example of a metal complex with an intact lactone monomer and a functional ROP-initiating group simultaneously coordinated at the metal center. At 80 °C, all three systems initiate the immortal solution-state ROP of ε-caprolactone via a coordination-insertion mechanism, which has been confirmed through experimental studies, and is supported by computational data. Natural bond orbital calculations further indicate that polymerization may necessitate isomerization about the metal center between the alkoxide chain and the coordinated monomer. The observations made in this work are expected to inform mechanistic understanding both of amine tris(phenolate)-supported metal alkoxide ROP initiators, including various highly stereoselective systems for the polymerization of lactides and of coordination-insertion-type ROP protocols more broadly.

Abstract
Tetrafluoroborate (BF4 - ) has long been used as a spectator counter anion. Herein, we report an unprecedented salt metathesis between a variety of BF4 - salts and a series of organoboronic acids yielding the corresponding organotrifluoroborates. We identified conditions for fast and efficient fluoridation (<1 h) with minimal workup. Fundamentally, this work discloses the proclivity of BF4 - to exchange fluoride atoms with organoboronates, highlighting the lability of BF4 - .

Abstract
A series of iron(II) complexes with the general formula [FeII(L2-Qn)(L)]n+ (n = 1, L = F-, Cl-; n = 2, L = NCMe, H2O) have been isolated and characterized. The X-ray crystallographic data reveals that metal-ligand bond distances vary with varying ligand field strengths of the sixth ligand. While the complexes with fluoride, chloride and water as axial ligand are high spin, the acetonitrile-coordinated complex is in a mixed spin state. The steric bulk of the quinoline moieties forces the axial ligands to deviate from the Fe-Naxial axis. A higher deviation/tilt is noted for the high spin complexes, while the acetonitrile coordinated complex displays least deviation. This deviation from linearity is slightly less in the analogous low-spin iron(II) complex [FeII(L1-Qn)(NCMe)]2+ of the related asymmetric ligand L1-Qn due to the presence of only one sterically demanding quinoline moiety. The two iron(II)-acetonitrile complexes [FeII(L2-Qn)(NCMe)]2+ and [FeII(L1-Qn)(NCMe)]2+ generate the corresponding iron(IV)-oxo species with higher thermal stability of the species supported by the L1-Qn ligand. The crystallographic and spectroscopic data for [FeIV(O)(L1-Qn)](ClO4)2 bear resemblance to other crystallographically characterized S = 1 iron(IV)-oxo complexes. The hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) and oxygen atom transfer (OAT) reactivities of both the iron(IV)-oxo complexes were investigated, and a Box-Behnken multivariate optimization of the parameters for catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane by [FeII(L2-Qn)(NCMe)]2+ using hydrogen peroxide as the terminal oxidant is presented. An increase in the average Fe-N bond length in [FeII(L1-Qn)(NCMe)]2+ is also manifested in higher HAT and OAT rates relative to the other reported complexes of ligands based on the N4Py framework. The results reported here confirm that the steric influence of the ligand environment is of critical importance for the reactivity of iron(IV)-oxo complexes, but additional electronic factors must influence the reactivity of iron-oxo complexes of N4Py derivatives.

Abstract
Self-assembly and characterisation of a supramolecular trigonal bipyramidal iron cage containing an [FeIII(μ2-F)6(FeII)3]3+ star motif at its core is reported. The complex can be formed in a one step reaction using an heterotopic ligand that supports site-specific incorporation of iron in three distinct electronic configurations: low-spin FeII, high-spin FeII and high-spin FeIII, with iron(II) tetrafluoroborate as the source of the bridging fluorides. Formation of a μ2-F bridged mixed-valence FeII-FeIII star is unprecedented. The peripheral high-spin FeII centres of the mixed-valence tetranuclear star incorporated in the iron cage are highly anisotropic and engage in F-mediated antiferromagnetic exchange with the central FeIII ion.

Abstract
A new ditopic ligand, N-(2,2-bis(pyrazolyl)ethyl)-2,2-bis(pyrazolyl)acetamide ((pz)2CH-C(O)-NH-CH2-CH(pz)2, L4Pz, pz = pyrazolyl ring), comprising two bis(pyrazolyl)methane donor groups linked via an amide bridge, has been prepared from the reaction of HOOCCH(pz)2 and H2NCH2CH(pz)2. The ligand coordinates to various metallic salts (i.e. AgO3SCF3, PdCl2, Re(CO)5Br, and Fe(BF4)2), in either a κ2-μ-κ2 or a κ3-μ-κ2 fashion, depending on the coordination preferences of the metallic center. These compounds were characterized by NMR, UV-Vis and IR spectroscopy, and in solid state by single crystal X-ray diffraction. In the case of silver(i), a mono-dimensional coordination polymer was obtained, while the others were found to be discrete complexes. The synthesis and characterization of a heterobimetallic complex is also described. In solid state, all compounds are associated into supramolecular architectures via hydrogen bonding and pyrazolyl embrace interactions.

Abstract
A straightforward synthesis of a new hybrid scorpionate ligand [(allyl)2B(CH2PPh2)(Pz)](-) ([A2BPN](-)) is reported. Coordination to rhodium resulted in square-planar complexes [Rh(κ(2)-A2BPN)(L)(L')] [L = L' = (1)/2cod (1,5-cyclooctadiene), CN(t)Bu, CO (6); L = CO, L' = NH3, pyridine, PPh3, PMe3] for which spectroscopic data and the molecular structure of [Rh(κ(2)-A2BPN)(CO)PPh3] (11) indicate the ligand to be κN,κP-bound to rhodium with two dangling free allyl groups. Studies in solution point out that the six-membered Rh-N-N-B-C- P metallacycle undergoes a fast inversion in all of them. The bis(carbonyl) complex 6 easily loses a CO group to give [{Rh(A2BPN)(CO)}2], a dinuclear compound in which two mononuclear subunits are brought together by two bridging allyl groups. Coordination to iridium is dominated by a tripodal κN,κP,η(2)-C═C binding mode in the TBPY-5 complexes [Ir(κ(3)-A2BPN)(L)(L')] [L = L' = (1)/2cod (3), CN(t)Bu (5), CO (7); L = CO, L' = PPh3 (13), PMe3 (14), H2C═CH2, (17), MeO2CC≡CCO2Me (dmad, 18)], as confirmed by the single-crystal structure determination of complexes 3 and 18. A fast exchange between the two allyl arms is observed for complexes having L = L' (3, 5, and 7), while those having CO and L ligands (14, 17, and 18) were found to be nonfluxional species. An exception is complex 13, which establishes an equilibrium with the SP-4 configuration. Protonation reactions on complexes 13 and 14 with HCl yielded the hydride complex [Ir(κ(2)-A2BPN)(CO)(Cl)(H)PPh3] (15) and the C-alkyl compound [ Ir{κ(3)-(allyl)B(CH2 CHCH3)(CH2PPh2)(Pz)}(Cl)(CO)PMe3] (16), respectively. The bis(isocyanide) complex 5 reacts with dmad to form [Ir(κ(2)-A2BPN)(CN(t)Bu)2(dmad)]. On the whole, the electronic density provided to the metal by the [A2BPN](-) ligand is very sensitive to the coordination mode. The basicity of the new ligand is similar to that of the Tp(Me2) ligand in the κN,κP mode but comparable to Tp if coordinated in the κN,κP,η(2)-C═C mode.

Abstract
The reaction of M(BF(4))(2).xH(2)O, where M is Fe, Co, Cu, and Zn, and the ditopic, bis(pyrazolyl)methane ligand m-[CH(pz)(2)](2)C(6)H(4), L(m), where pz is a pyrazolyl ring, yields the monofluoride bridged, binuclear [M(2)(mu-F)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(3) complexes. In contrast, a similar reaction of L(m) with Ni(BF(4))(2).6H(2)O yields dibridged [Ni(2)(mu-F)(2)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(2). The solid state structures of seven [M(2)(mu-F)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(3) complexes show that the divalent metal ion is in a five-coordinate, trigonal bipyramidal, coordination environment with either a linear or nearly linear M-F-M bridging arrangement. NMR results indicate that [Zn(2)(mu-F)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(3) retains its dimeric structure in solution. The [Ni(2)(mu-F)(2)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(2) complex has a dibridging fluoride structure that has a six-coordination environment about each nickel(II) ion. In the solid state, the [Fe(2)(mu-F)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(3) and [Co(2)(mu-F)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(3) complexes show weak intramolecular antiferromagnetic exchange coupling between the two metal(II) ions with J values of -10.4 and -0.67 cm(-1), respectively; there is no observed long-range magnetic order. Three different solvates of [Cu(2)(mu-F)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(3) are diamagnetic between 5 and 400 K, thus showing strong antiferromagnetic exchange interactions of -600 cm(-1) or more negative. Mossbauer spectra indicate that [Fe(2)(mu-F)(mu-L(m))(2)](BF(4))(3) exhibits no long-range magnetic order between 4.2 and 295 K and isomer shifts that are consistent with the presence of five-coordinate, high-spin iron(II).

Abstract
A new pentadentate ligand, alpha,alpha,alpha',alpha'-tetra(pyrazolyl)lutidine, pz 4lut, has been prepared by a CoCl 2-catalyzed rearrangement reaction between 2,6-pyridinedicarboxaldehyde and dipyrazolylthione. The coordination chemistry with some divalent first-row transition metal (Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Zn) chlorides has been explored. The electronic properties indicate that the new kappa (5)N ligand is a slightly stronger-field donor to Ni (2+) and Co (2+) than a related pentadentate ligand with five pyridyl donors presumably because of greater interaction between the metal and axial pyridyl.

Abstract
A series of 13 silver(I) double and multiple salts containing 1,3-butadiynediide, C4(2-), were synthesized by dissolving the silver carbide Ag2C4 in a concentrated aqueous solution of one or more of the silver salts AgNO3, AgCF3CO2, AgC2F5CO2, AgF, AgBF4, and AgPF6. The 1,3-butadiynediide anion invariably adopts a mu4,mu4 coordination mode in these compounds, which indicates that the Ag4[cap]C[triple bond]C-C[triple bond]C[cap]Ag4 moiety can be used as a new type of metalloligand supramolecular synthon for the construction of coordination networks. Fine-tuning with various ancillary anionic ligands caused the Ag4 aggregate at each ethynide terminus to adopt a butterfly-shaped, planar, or barblike configuration, within which the silver-ethynide interactions can be classified into three types: sigma, pi, and mixed (sigma,pi). The effect of coexisting nitrile ligands and quaternary ammonium salts on supramolecular assembly with the above synthon was also explored. The hydrolysis of PF6(-) and BF4(-) led to the formation of the quadruple salt Ag2C4 x 4 AgNO3 x AgPF2O2 x Ag3PO4 and a novel (F)2(H2O)18 hydrogen-bonded tape in the triple salt Ag2C4 x 2 AgF x 10 AgC2F5CO2 x CH3CN x 12 H2O, respectively. The largest silver-ethynide cluster aggregate described to date, (C4)3@Ag18, occurs in 3 Ag2C4 x 12 AgC2F5CO2 x 5 [(BnMe3N)C2F5CO2] x 4 H2O (Bn = benzyl).

Abstract
Reactions of the Schiff base oligopyrrolic octaazamacrocycle 1 with BF4- salts of divalent zinc and cadmium result in fluoride anion abstraction and the formation of difluoride-bridged metal complexes. X-ray diffraction analyses provide support for the notion that hydrogen-bonding interactions, involving the N-H groups of the macrocycle and the coordinated fluoride ions, play an important role in stabilizing these new complexes.
