Abstract
The title compound, bis[butyltris(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)borato]iron(II), belongs to the class of neutral scorpionate complexes. The crystal structure at low temperature and the magnetic susceptibility measurement in the high-temperature region reveal the low-spin character of the iron(II) ion. The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Fe(C13H18BN6)2], contains two half independent complex molecules. In each complex, the FeII atom is located on an inversion center and is surrounded by two scorpionate ligand butyltris(1H-pyrazol-1-yl)borate molecules that coordinate to the iron(II) ion through the N atoms of the pyrazole groups. The two independent complex molecules differ essentially in the conformation of the butyl substituents. In the crystal, the complex molecules are linked by a series of C—H⋯π interactions, which generate a supramolecular three-dimensional structure. At 120 K, the average Fe—N bond distance is 1.969 Å, indicating the low-spin state of the iron(II) atom, which does not change upon heating, as demonstrated by high-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements.

Abstract
Functionalization of 1,4-di(4-pyridinyl)benzene with poly(arylester) dendrimers bearing cyanobiphenyl end-groups gives a bidentate dendromesogenic ligand (L) that exhibits thermotropic liquid-crystalline properties. Combination of the diruthenium complex [Ru2(p-cymene)2(donq)][DDS]2 (M) with L, by coordination-driven self-assembly, affords the discrete and well-defined metallacycle M2L2. Like L, this supramolecular dendritic system displays mesomorphic properties above 50 °C. Both compounds L and M2L2 show smectic phases, characterized by a multilayered organization of the multiple components.

Anion Influence on Spin State in Two Novel Fe(III) Compounds: [Fe(5F-sal2333)]X. CRYSTALS 2018. [DOI: 10.3390/cryst9010019] [Citation(s) in RCA: 11] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.8] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/16/2022]
Abstract
Structural and magnetic data on two iron (III) complexes with a hexadentate Schiff base chelating ligand and Cl− or BPh4− counterions are reported. In the solid state, the Cl− complex [Fe(5F-sal2333)]Cl, 1, is high spin between 5–300 K while the BPh4− analogue [Fe(5F-sal2333)]BPh4, 2, is low spin between 5–250 K, with onset of a gradual and incomplete spin crossover on warming to room temperature. Structural investigation reveals different orientations of the hydrogen atoms on the secondary amine donors in the two salts of the [Fe(5F-sal2333)]+ cation: high spin complex [Fe(5F-sal2333)]Cl, 1, crystallizes with non-meso orientations while the spin crossover complex [Fe(5F-sal2333)]BPh4, 2, crystallizes with a combination of meso and non-meso orientations disordered over one crystallographic site. Variable temperature electronic absorption spectroscopy of methanolic solutions of 1 and 2 suggests that both are capable of spin state switching in the solution.

Abstract
We report the synthesis and characterisation of the new polytopic ligands, ddta (N,N-di(pyridin-2-yl)-4,6-di(1,4,7,10-tetraoxa-13-azacyclopentadecan-13-yl)-1,3,5-triazin-2-amine) and tptd (N(2),N(2),N(4),N(4)-tetra(pyridin-2-yl)-6-(1,4,7,10-tetraoxa-13-azacyclopentadecan-13-yl)-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine). Each contains N-donor dipyridylamino binding sites as well as separate and distinct mono-aza-15-crown-5 binding sites. The ligand ddta has been used to synthesise the polymeric heterometallic SCO compound trans-[Fe(II)(NCS)(2)(ddta)(2)Na(2)](ClO(4))(2)·4CH(3)CH(2)CH(2)OH, 1, and tptd has been used to synthesise the polymeric SCO compound trans-[Fe(II)(NCS)(2)(tptd)]·CH(3)OH, 2, and the dinuclear compound cis-[(Fe(II))(2)(NCS)(4)(tptd)(2)], 3. Magnetic susceptibility measurements show that 1 and a desolvated sample of 2 each undergo a gradual, one-step spin transition with T(½) values of ~240 K and ~110 K, respectively. The paucity of inter-chain intermolecular interactions, as well as the flexible, covalent bridges between Fe(II) spin crossover sites, are likely to contribute to the gradual nature of the spin transition observed in each case. Variable temperature powder X-ray diffraction studies on 1 show the anisotropic behaviour of the unit cell parameters, where c and the b-c plane are most affected by structural changes occurring as the temperature is lowered.
