Abstract
Organosilicon and organotin compounds have been widely used in many fields, such as organic synthesis, materials science, and biochemistry, because of their unique physical and electronic properties. Recently, two novel compounds containing C-Si or C-Sn bonds have been synthesized. These compounds can be used for late modification of drug-like molecules such as probenecid, duloxetine, and fluoxetine derivatives. However, the detailed reaction mechanisms and the influencing factors that determine selectivity are still unclear. Moreover, several questions remain that are valuable to investigate further, such as (1) the influence of the solvent and the lithium salt on the reaction of the Si/Sn-Zn reagent, (2) the stereoselective functionalization of C-O bonds, and (3) the differences between silylation and stannylation. In the current study, we have explored the above issues with density functional theory and have found that stereoselectivity was most likely caused by the oxidative addition of cobalt to the C-O bond of alkenyl acetate with chelation assistance and that transmetalation was most likely the rate-determining step. For Sn-Zn reagents, the transmetalation was achieved by anion and cation pairs, whereas for Si-Zn reagents, the process was facilitated by Co-Zn complexes.

Abstract
![]()
We report the isolation and characterization of a series
of three
cobalt(II) bis(phosphine) complexes with varying numbers of coordinated
solvent ligands in the axial position. X-ray quality crystals of [Co(dppv)2][BF4]2(1), [Co(dppv)2(NCCH3)][BPh4]2(2), and [Co(dppv)2(NCCH3)2][BF4]2(3) (dppv = cis-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethylene) were grown under slightly different
conditions, and their structures were compared. This analysis revealed
multiple crystallization motifs for divalent cobalt(II) complexes
with the same set of phosphine ligands. Notably, the 4-coordinate
complex 1 is a rare example of a square-planar cobalt(II)
complex, the first crystallographically characterized square-planar
Co(II) complex containing only neutral, bidentate ligands. Characterization
of the different axial geometries via EPR and UV–visible spectroscopies
showed that there is a very shallow energy landscape for axial ligation.
Ligand field angular overlap model calculations support this conclusion,
and we provide a strategy for tuning other ligands to be axially labile
on a phosphine scaffold. This methodology is proposed to be used for
designing cobalt phosphine catalysts for a variety of oxidation and
reduction reactions. A
square-planar cobalt(II) complex featuring two chelating
diphosphine ligands was isolated with 0, 1, and 2 axial acetonitrile
ligands. AOM calculations, validated by EPR, suggest this “axial
ambivalence” results from the near degeneracy of the dx2 − y2/dz2 orbital energies, with a change in the parentage
of the SOMO upon axial ligation. The calculations additionally provide
a simple method of predicting square-planar ligand sets/geometries
tuned to bind axial substrates with varying s-donor strengths.

Abstract
Using a pyrazolate-bridged dinucleating ligand that provides two proximate pincer-type PNN binding sites ("two-in-one pincer"), different synthetic routes have been developed towards its dicobalt(I) complex 2 that features a twice deprotonated ligand backbone and two weakly activated terminal N2 substrate ligands directed into the bimetallic pocket. Protonation of 2 is shown to occur at the ligand scaffold and to trigger conversion to a tetracobalt(I) complex 4 with two end-on μ1,2 -bridging N2 ; in THF 4 is labile and undergoes temperature-dependent N2 /triflate ligand exchange. These pyrazolate-based systems combine the potential of exhibiting both metal-metal and metal-ligand cooperativity, viz. two concepts that have emerged as promising design motifs for molecular N2 fixation catalysts. Complex 2 serves as an efficient (pre)catalyst for the reductive silylation of N2 into N(SiMe3 )3 (using KC8 and Me3 SiCl), yielding up to 240 equiv N(SiMe3 )3 per catalyst.

Abstract
The reactivity of a paramagnetic T-shaped cobalt(i) complex, [(iPrboxmi)Co], stabilised by a monoanionic bis(oxazolinylmethylidene)-isoindolate (boxmi) NNN pincer ligand is described. The exposure to carbon monoxide as an additional neutral ligand resulted in the square-planar species [(iPrboxmi)Co(CO)], accompanied by a change in the electronic spin state from S = 1 to S = 0. In contrast, upon treatment with trimethylphosphine the formation of the distorted tetrahedral complex [(iPrboxmi)Co(PMe3)] was observed (S = 1). Reacting [(iPrboxmi)Co] with iodine (I2), organic peroxides (tBu2O2, (SiMe3)2O2) and diphenyldisulphide (Ph2S2) yielded the tetracoordinated complexes [(iPrboxmi)CoI], [(iPrboxmi)Co(OtBu)], [(iPrboxmi)Co(OSiMe3)] and [(iPrboxmi)Co(SPh)], respectively, demonstrating the capability of the boxmi-supported cobalt(i) complex to homolytically cleave bonds and thus its distinct one-electron reactivity. Furthermore, a square-planar cobalt(ii) alkynyl complex [(iPrboxmi)Co(CCArF)] was identified as the main product in the reaction between [(iPrboxmi)Co] and a terminal alkyne, 4-fluoro-1-ethynylbenzene. Putting such species in the context of the previously investigated hydroboration catalysis, its stoichiometric reaction with pinacolborane revealed its potential conversion into a cobalt(ii) hydride complex, thus confirming its original attribution as off-cycle species.

Abstract
A series of low spin cobalt(i) complexes bearing a tetradentate phenanthroline-based PNNP ligand (2,9-bis((diphenylphosphanyl)methyl)-1,10-phenanthroline), [CoCl(PNNP)] (1), [CoMe(PNNP)] (2) and [Co(CH2SiMe3)(PNNP)] (3), were synthesized and structurally identified. Complex 3 underwent a structural rearrangement of the PNNP skeleton upon heating to form [Co(PNNP')] (4), which is supported by an asymmetrical PNNP' ligand with a dearomatized phenanthroline backbone. Mechanistic studies supported that the transformation from 3 to 4 was initiated by the homolysis of either a Co-CH2SiMe3 bond or a benzylic C-H bond. Complex 4 achieved H-H bond cleavage of H2 (1 atm) at ambient temperature, to form [Co(PNNP'')] (6), in which two H atoms were incorporated into the endocyclic double bond of the PNNP'' ligand backbone.

Abstract
This report discloses a combined experimental and computational study aimed at understanding C-S reductive elimination from Co(iii) supported by a diarylamido/bis(phosphine) PNP pincer ligand. Divalent (PNP)Co-aryl complexes could be easily oxidized to five-coordinate Co(iii) derivatives, and anion metathesis provided five-coordinate (PNP)Co(Ar)(SAr') complexes of Co(iii). In contrast to their previously described (POCOP)Co(Ar)(SAr') analogs, but similarly to the (PNP)Rh(Ar)(SAr') and (POCOP)Rh(Ar)(SAr') analogs, (PNP)Co(Ar)(SAr') undergo C-S reductive elimination with the formation of the desired diarylsulfide product ArSAr'. DFT studies and experimental observations are consistent with a concerted process. However, in contrast to the Rh analogs, the immediate product of such reductive elimination, the unobserved Co(i) complex (PNP)Co, un-dergoes rapid comproportionation with the (PNP)Co(Ar)(SAr') starting material to give Co(ii) compounds (PNP)Co-Ar and (PNP)Co-SAr'.

Abstract
A tridentate [PPP] ligand has been used to construct a series of dimeric cobalt complexes and explore cooperative multielectron redox processes that are both metal- and ligand-centered. Reduction of (PPClP)CoCl2 (1) with excess magnesium affords the CoICoI N-heterocyclic phosphido (NHP-)-bridged symmetric dimer [(μ-PPP)Co]2 (2). Two-electron oxidation of 2 with FcPF6 generates an asymmetrically bridged dication [(μ-PPP)Co]2[PF6]2 (3) in which the oxidation has occurred in a delocalized fashion throughout the Co2P2 core. In contrast, [(μ-PPP)Co]2+ (5), which can be generated either by one-electron oxidation of 2 with FcPF6 or comportionation of 2 and 3, features an asymmetric geometry and localized mixed valence. Treatment of 1 with the milder reductants CoCp2 and KBEt3H does not lead to formation of 2, 3, or 5 but instead generates dimeric species [(PPP)CoCl]2 (6) and [(PPP)CoH]2 (7). Unlike 2-5, where the phosphine side arms of the tridentate [PPP] ligand span the two Co centers, complex 6 and 7 are connected solely by NHP- ligands that bridge the two (PPP)Co fragments.

Abstract
The use of 3d metals in de/hydrogenation catalysis has emerged as a competitive field with respect to "traditional" precious metal catalyzed transformations. The introduction of functional pincer ligands that can store protons and/or electrons as expressed by metal-ligand cooperativity and ligand redox-activity strongly stimulated this development as a conceptual starting point for rational catalyst design. This review aims at providing a comprehensive picture of the utilization of functional pincer ligands in first-row transition metal hydrogenation and dehydrogenation catalysis and related synthetic concepts relying on these such as the hydrogen borrowing methodology. Particular emphasis is put on the implementation and relevance of cooperating and redox-active pincer ligands within the mechanistic scenarios.

Abstract
The nickel PNP pincer complex ( i PrPNP)NiPh ( i PrPNP = κP,κN,κP-N(CH2CH2P i Pr2)2) was prepared by reacting ( i PrPNP)NiBr with PhMgCl or deprotonating [( i PrPNHP)NiPh]Y ( i PrPNHP = κP,κN,κP-HN(CH2CH2P i Pr2)2; Y = Br, PF6) with KO t Bu. The byproducts of the PhMgCl reaction were identified as [( i PrPNHP)NiPh]Br and ( i PrPNP')NiPh ( i PrPNP' = κP,κN,κP-N(CH=CHP i Pr2)(CH2CH2P i Pr2)). The methyl analog ( i PrPNP)NiMe was synthesized from the reaction of ( i PrPNP)NiBr with MeLi, although it was contaminated with ( i PrPNP')NiMe due to ligand oxidation. Protonation of ( i PrPNP)NiX (X = Br, Ph, Me) with various acids, such as HCl, water, and MeOH, was studied in C6D6. Nitrogen protonation was shown to be the most favorable process, producing a cationic species [( i PrPNHP)NiX]+ with the NH moiety hydrogen-bonded to the conjugate base (i.e., Cl-, HO-, or MeO-). Protonation of the Ni-C bond was observed at room temperature with ( i PrPNP)NiMe, whereas at 70 °C with ( i PrPNP)NiPh, both resulting in [( i PrPNHP)NiCl]Cl as the final product. Protonation of ( i PrPNP)NiBr was complicated by site exchange between Br- and the conjugate base and by the degradation of the pincer complexes. Indene, which lacks hydrogen-bonding capability, was unable to protonate ( i PrPNP)NiPh and ( i PrPNP)NiMe, despite being more acidic than water and MeOH. Neutral and cationic nickel pincer complexes involved in this study, including ( i PrPNP')NiBr, ( i PrPNP)NiPh, ( i PrPNP')NiPh, ( i PrPNP)NiMe, [( i PrPNHP)NiPh]Y (Y = Br, PF6, BPh4), [( i PrPNHP)NiPh]2[NiCl4], [( i PrPNHP)NiMe]Y (Y = Cl, Br, BPh4), [( i PrPNHP)NiBr]Br, and [( i PrPNHP)NiCl]Cl, were characterized by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
Thermal or photolytic activation of well-defined mononuclear [Co(N3)(PNP)] (PNP = 2,2'-bis(diisopropylphosphino)-4,4'-ditolylamido) results in the structurally characterized dinuclear species [Co(μ-N;κ3-P,N,N-PNPN)]2 (3), with two N-bridging phosphiniminato bridgeheads. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations indicate the intermediacy of a mononuclear cobalt-nitrido complex, followed by N-migratory insertion into a Co-P bond. Reaction of 3 with two equiv. HCl leads to rupture of the dimer with formation of mononuclear [CoCl(PNPNH)] (4) by protonation of the N-bridges.

Abstract
A T-shaped NiI complex was synthesized using a rigid acridane-based pincer ligand to prepare a metalloradical center. Structural data displays a nickel ion is embedded in the plane of a PNP ligand. Having a sterically exposed half-filled dx2-y2 orbital, this three-coordinate NiI species reveals unique open-shell reactivity including the homolytic cleavage of various σ-bonds, such as H-H, N-N, and C-C.

Abstract
Readily accessible ( i-PrPDI)CoCl2 [ i-Pr PDI = 2,6-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyliminoethyl)pyridine] reacts with 2 equivalents of NaEt3BH at -78 °C in toluene to generate a catalyst that effects highly selective anti-Markovnikov hydrosilylation of the terminal double bond in 1,3- and 1,4-dienes. Primary and secondary silanes such as PhSiH3, Ph2SiH2 and PhSi(Me)H2 react with a broad spectrum of terminal dienes without affecting the configuration of the other double bond. When dienes conjugated to an aromatic ring are involved, both Markovnikov and anti-Markovnikov products are formed. The reaction is tolerant of various functional groups such as an aryl bromide, aryl iodide, protected alcohol, and even a silyl enol ether. Reactions of 1-alkene under similar conditions cleanly lead to a mixture of Markovnikov and anti-Markovnikov hydrosilation products, where ratio of the products increasingly favors the latter, as the size of the 2,6-substituents in the iminoylaryl group becomes larger. The complex ( i-PrPDI)CoCl2 gives exclusively the linear silane for a wide variety of terminal alkenes. Mechanistic studies suggest a pathway that involves a key role for an in situ generated metal hydride, (L)Co(I)-H. Exclusive reduction of the terminal double bond (vis-a-vis hydrosilylation) when (EtO)2Si(Me)H is used in the place of PhSiH3 is explained on the basis of an alternate silane-mediated decomposition path for the linear Co(I)-alkyl intermediate.
