Abstract
How different is carbon compared to other elements in the periodic table? Can carbon compounds be regarded as coordination complexes with carbon as the central element undergoing a facile exchange of its ligands? Although carbon clearly plays a special role among the elements of the periodic table, recent studies have drawn parallels between the bonding situation and the reactivity of carbon compounds to transition metal complexes. This Perspective summarizes recent reports about ylidic and zwitterionic compounds that were shown to exhibit ambiguous bonding situations that can be interpreted as donor-acceptor interactions similar to the bond between a metal and a neutral ligand. Based on this conception, ligand exchange reactions prototypical of transition metal complexes were realized at carbon atoms, enabling new synthetic strategies for the synthesis of reactive species and building blocks. In particular, the exchange of N2, CO, and phosphine ligands led to the development of a mild method for accessing new compounds and reagents with unusual properties, such as vinylidene ketenes or stable ketenyl anions, that open up a diverse but still poorly explored follow-up chemistry.

Abstract
We report hydroboration of carbodiimide and isocyanate substrates catalyzed by a cyclic carbodiphosphorane catalyst. The cyclic carbodiphosphorane outperformed the other Lewis basic carbon species tested, including other zerovalent carbon compounds, phosphorus ylides, an N-heterocyclic carbene, and an N-heterocyclic olefin. Hydroborations of seven carbodiimides and nine isocyanates were performed at room temperature to form N-boryl formamidine and N-boryl formamide products. Intermolecular competition experiments demonstrated the selective hydroboration of alkyl isocyanates over carbodiimide and ketone substrates. DFT calculations support a proposed mechanism involving activation of pinacolborane by the carbodiphosphorane catalyst, followed by hydride transfer and B-N bond formation.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are an important class of reactive organic molecules used as ligands, organocatalysts, and σ-donors in a variety of electroneutral ylide or betaine adducts with main-group compounds. An emerging class of betaine adducts made from the reaction of NHCs with carbodiimides (CDIs) form zwitterionic amidinate-like structures with tunable properties based on the highly modular NHC and CDI scaffolds. The adduct stability is controlled by the substituents on the CDI nitrogens, while the NHC substituents greatly affect the configuration of the adduct in the solid state. This Perspective is intended as a primer to these adducts, touching on their history, synthesis, characterization, and general properties. Despite the infancy of the field, NHC-CDI adducts have been applied as amidinate-type ligands for transition metals and nanoparticles, as junctions in zwitterionic polymers, and to stabilize distonic radical cations. These applications and potential future directions are discussed.

Abstract
Herein, we present a series of hexaphenyl carbodiphosphorane (CDPPh) adducts of heavier group 15 trichlorides ECl3 (E = P-Bi). The reaction with PCl3 yields the known salt [CDPPh-PCl2][Cl] ([1][Cl]), the heavier element trichlorides ECl3 (E = Sb (4), Bi (5)) give the neutral adducts CDPPh-ECl3 which were characterised crystallographically and spectroscopically. The reaction of CDPPh with AsCl3 does not yield CDPPh-AsCl3 (2), but in the presence of GaCl3 the corresponding salt [CDPPh-AsCl2][GaCl4] ([3][GaCl4]) is formed. DFT (density functional theory) calculations were carried out to examine the molecular frontier orbitals in 1+-5. Additional reactivity studies revealed an intramolecular electrophilic aromatic substitution (SEAr) in 1+, which represents an excellent starting point for further selective C-P bond formation reactions.

Abstract
This review is dedicated to the chemistry of stable and isolable species that bear two lone pairs at the same C center, i.e., geminal dianions, stabilized by main group elements. Three cases can thus be considered: the geminal-dilithio derivative, for which the two substituents at C are neutral, the yldiide derivatives, for which one substituent is neutral while the other is charged, and finally the geminal bisylides, for which the two substituents are positively charged. In this review, the syntheses and electronic structures of the geminal dianions are presented, followed by the studies dedicated to their reactivity toward organic substrates and finally to their coordination chemistry and applications.

Abstract
The revitalized concept of "coordination at carbon" allows relationships between seemingly unrelated families of carbon-centered compounds to be discovered generating fascinating patchwork families of compounds. It is shown how olefins and cyclopropanes can be regarded as donors for carbon acceptors C(1), C(2), and C(3). Through this approach, hydrocarbons such as spiropentane and dicyclopropylidene are found to be counterparts of the bis-ylidic carbodiphosphoranes and the corresponding mixed mono-ylidic systems.

Abstract
Vinylporphyrins containing one vinyl group at the pyrrole or benzene ring and their complexes with Cu 2+ and Zn 2+ have been obtained by the Wittig reaction. The compounds obtained were characterized by physicochemical methods. X-ray diffraction analysis of 5-(4-vinylphenyl)-10,15,20-triphenylporphyrin has been carried out. It is likely that the inclusion of the vinyl group is accompanied by weak electron effects on the macrocycles. The radical-induced copolymerization of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin monomers with the vinyl group in a benzene or pyrrole ring and their copper and zinc complexes with styrene and methacrylate was studied. Porphyrin comonomers decrease the overall polymerization rate and the number-average molecular weight of the products formed compared with the weight of polystyrene obtained under similar conditions. The main reasons for termination of chain growth by vinylporphyrins were revealed and some quantitative parameters of these reactions were obtained. IR and electronic absorption spectra of porphyrin-containing copolymers are discussed. According to the ESR spectra, the copper-containing centres in the copolymers are fairly remote from each other, and the metal-containing polymeric systems are magnetically dilute. The spectral luminescence properties of solutions of zinc 5-(4-vinylphenyl)-10,15,20-triphenylporphyrin–methyl methacrylate copolymers with various contents of porphyrin groups were studied. It was shown that a new long-wave band appears in the absorption spectra of the copolymers, the intensity of which depends on the copolymer composition, and the quantum yield of fluorescence decreases with increasing molar fraction of porphyrin groups.

Abstract
We report about the first X-ray structure analyses of the CS2 and CO2 adducts with carbodiphosphorane C(PPh3)2 and the synthesis and X-ray structure analysis of group 6 carbonyl complexes with compound S2CC(PPh3)2 as a ligand [(CO)4MS2CC(PPh3)2] (M = Cr, Mo, W). The nature of the carbon-carbon bonding in X2CC(PPh3)2 and in the model compounds X2CC(PH3)2 and the metal-ligand bonding in [(CO)4MoS2CC(PH3)2] have been analyzed with charge and energy decomposition methods using DFT calculations. Carbodiphosphoranes C(PR3)2 are double electron pair donors having sigma- and pi-carbon lone-pair orbitals as the two highest occupied MOs.
