Abstract
Described here is a direct entry to two examples of 3d transition metal catalysts that are active for the cyclic polymerization of phenylacetylene, namely, [(BDI)M{κ2 -C,C-(Me3 SiC3 SiMe3 )}] (2-M) (BDI=[ArNC(CH3 )]2 CH- , Ar=2,6-i Pr2 C6 H3 ; M=Ti, V). Catalysts are prepared in one step by the treatment of [(BDI)MCl2 ] (1-M, M=Ti, V) with 1,3-dilithioallene [Li2 (Me3 SiC3 SiMe3 )]. Complexes 2-M have been spectroscopically and structurally characterized and the polymers that are catalytically formed from phenylacetylene were verified to have a cyclic topology based on a combination of size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) and intrinsic viscosity studies. Two-electron oxidation of 2-V with nitrous oxide (N2 O) cleanly yields a [VV ] alkylidene-alkynyl oxo complex [(BDI)V(=O){κ1 -C-(=C(SiMe3 )CC(SiMe3 ))}] (3), which lends support for how this scaffold in 2-M might be operating in the polymerization of the terminal alkyne. This work demonstrates how alkylidynes can be circumvented using 1,3-dianionic allene as a segue into M-C multiple bonds.

Abstract
Synthesis of bottlebrush polymers (BBPs) and block copolymers by Z-/E-specific living ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of N-substituted-norbornene-2,3-dicarboximides containing long alkyl chains (n-octadecyl, n-tetradecyl, etc.) has been attained by the vanadium(V)-alkylidene catalysts V(CHSiMe3)(ArN)[OC(CF3)3](PMe3)2 [Ar = 2,6-Cl2C6H3 (1), C6F5 (2)] and V(CHSiMe3)(2,6-F2C6H3N)(OC6Cl5)(PMe3)2 (3). The ROMPs using 1 afforded the BBPs with exclusive Z selectivity (98 to >99% cis) even at high temperature (up to 80 °C) in the presence of PMe3, whereas the ROMPs using 3 gave the BBPs with high E selectivity (90% trans). These ROMPs proceeded in a living manner (even at 80 °C using 1), affording various (amphiphilic) block copolymers while maintaining high E/Z selectivity. The resultant Z- and E-selective BBPs especially prepared from N-(n-octadecyl)norbornene-2,3-dicarboximide possessed different melting temperatures due to different degrees of interpolymer alkyl side chain interaction (side chain crystallization).

Abstract
Organometallic catalysis is a powerful strategy in chemical synthesis, especially with the cheap and low toxic metals based on green chemistry principle. Thus, the selection of the metal is particularly important to plan relevant and applicable processes. The group VB metals have been the subject of exciting and significant advances in both organic and inorganic synthesis. In this Review, we have summarized some reports from recent decades, which are about the development of group VB metals utilized in various types of reactions, such as oxidation, reduction, alkylation, dealkylation, polymerization, aromatization, protein synthesis, and practical water splitting.

Abstract
[VCl3(THF)3] offers a convenient entrance point into the chemistry of carbene stabilized V(III) complexes. Herein we report the paramagnetic mono- and biscarbene complexes [VCl3(cAACMe)] 1, [VCl3(cAACMe)(THF)] 1(thf), [VCl3(IMes)] 2, [{VCl2(IiPrMe)(μ-Cl)}2] 3, [VCl3(IDipp)] 4, [VCl3(SIDipp)] 5, [VCl3(SIDipp)(THF)] 5(thf), [VCl3(ItBu)] 6, [VCl3(cAACMe)2] 7 and [VCl3(IiPrMe)2] 8. Reaction of 1 with MesMgCl, MesLi and LiNPh2 afforded the complexes [VCl2(Mes)(cAACMe)] 9, [cAACMeH]+[VCl2Mes2]-10 and [VCl2(NPh2)(cAACMe)] 11. The V(V) complexes [V(O)Cl3(IDipp)] 12 and [V(O)Cl3(SIDipp)] 13 were selectively prepared from oxygen oxidation of 4 and 5. [V(O)Cl3(IDipp)] 12 and [V(O)Cl3(IMes)] react with isocyanates to yield the NHC-ligated imido complexes [V(N-p-CH3C6H4)Cl3(IDipp)] 14, [V(N-p-FC6H4)Cl3(IDipp)] 15, [V(N-p-CH3C6H4)Cl3(SIDipp)] 16, [V(N-p-FC6H4)Cl3(SIDipp)] 17, [V(N-p-CH3C6H4)Cl3(IMes)] 18 and [V(N-p-FC6H4)Cl3(IMes)] 19.

Abstract
Catalytic olefin metathesis based on the second- and third-row transition metals has become one of the most powerful transformations in modern organic chemistry. The shift to first-row metals to produce fine and commodity chemicals would be an important achievement to complement existing methods with inexpensive and greener alternatives. In addition, those systems can offer unusual reactivity based on the unique electronic structure of the base metals. In this Minireview, we summarize the progress of the development of alkylidenes and metallacycles of first-row transition metals from scandium to nickel capable of performing cycloaddition and cycloreversion steps, crucial reactions in olefin metathesis. In addition, we will discuss systems capable of performing olefin metathesis; however, the nature of active species is not yet known.

Abstract
Reactions of a series of (arylimido)vanadium(V) trialkyl complexes, V(NAr')(CH2SiMe3)3 (Ar' = C6H5, 2-MeC6H4, 2,6-Me2C6H3, 2,6-Cl2C6H3), with various phenols (ArOH, Ar = 2,6-F2C6H3, 2,6-Cl2C6H3, 2,6-Me2C6H3, 2,6- i Pr2C6H3, 2- t BuC6H4, 2,6- t Bu2C6H3; 1.0 equiv) affording V(NAr')(CH2SiMe3)2(OAr) were conducted in C6D6 at 25 °C, and the effects of both arylimido ligands and phenols on the substitution rate were explored. Sterically hindered arylimido ligands showed lower reactivity, and the reaction proceeded in the order: Ar' = 2,6-Me2C6H3 < 2,6-Cl2C6H3 < 2-MeC6H4 < C6H5. This order is somewhat different from that obtained from the chemical shifts in V(NAr')(CH2SiMe3)3 in the 51V NMR spectra. The conversions with various disubstituted phenols increased in the order: 2,6- i Pr2C6H3OH < 2,6-Me2C6H3OH < 2,6-Cl2C6H3OH < 2,6-F2C6H3OH, irrespective of the kind of arylimido ligands. The reactions of V(NAr')(CH2SiMe3)3 with 2,6- t Bu2C6H3OH (1.0 or 3.0 equiv) did not take place even upon heating at 60 °C. These results suggest that the reactions proceed via coordination of ArOH toward vanadium, and the reactivity is highly dependent on steric bulk of both the arylimido ligand and the phenol.

Abstract
Polypentenamer macroinitiators are synthesized through variable temperature ring opening metathesis polymerization of 3-cyclopentenyl α-bromoisobutyrate, which has sufficient ring strain (ΔHp = -22.6 kJ mol-1) to produce targeted molar mass (<5% from theoretical), low dispersity (1.17 ≤ Đ ≤ 1.23), and high conversion (∼72%). An initiation site for atom-transfer radical polymerization at every fifth backbone carbon allows "grafting-from" of styrene with quantitative initiation and linear molar mass increase with time. These bottlebrushes retain a low dispersity (Đ ≤ 1.34) at varying graft degrees of polymerization (5 ≤ Nsc ≤ 49) and have a glass transition temperature highly sensitized to graft length. Extension of the grafts with methyl methacrylate produces a core-shell brush polymer with high molar mass (>1000 kg mol-1) and Đ = 1.33. This system exhibits high synthetic versatility and control with a unique flexible backbone to expand the suite of densely grafted polymers.
