Abstract
Harnessing the acidity of HF/base reagents is of paramount importance to improve the efficiency and selectivity of fluorination reactions. Yet, no general method has been reported to evaluate their acidic properties, and experimental designs are still relying on a trial-and-error approach. We report a new method based on 19F NMR spectroscopy which allows highly sensitive measures and short-time analyses. Advantageously, the basic properties of the indicators can be determined upstream by DFT calculations, affording a simple yet robust semiempirical approach. In particular, the indicators used in this study were rationally designed to fit on the conceptually appealing and commonly used Hammett scale. This method has been applied to commercially available and recently developed HF/base reagents.

Abstract
We present herein a copper-catalyzed three-component aminofluorination of unactivated alkenes with N-bromodialkylamines and readily available nucleophilic fluoride under the assistance of a bidentate auxiliary. This protocol exhibits excellent functional group tolerance toward a wide range of unactivated alkenes and N-bromodialkylamines to furnish the corresponding β-fluoroalkylamines in a highly regio- and diastereoselective manner. The appropriate choice of nucleophilic fluoro source is essential to make this reaction a reality. Further DFT calculations show that the exothermic ion exchange between external fluoride ion and Cu(II) intermediate provides additional driving force to the irreversible migratory insertion, which offsets the unfavorable reaction energetics associated with the subsequent C(sp3)-F reductive elimination. This finding offers a new avenue to catalytic intermolecular aminofluorination of unactivated alkenes with electron-rich amino sources via a remarkable reductive elimination of Cu(III) species to forge the C(sp3)-F bonds.

Abstract
We report a copper-catalyzed selective 1,2-phosphonoazidation of conjugated dienes. This three-component reaction is achieved by using readily available P(O)-H compounds and bench-stable NaN3. Salient features of this strategy include its mild reaction conditions, broad functional group tolerance, and high chemoselectivity and regioselectivity. Moreover, the compatibility with the late-stage functionalization of drug molecules, the potential for scalable production, and the feasibility of further modifications of the products underscore the practical utility of this protocol in synthetic applications.

Abstract
Herein, hypervalent iodine-catalyzed halogenation of aryl-activated alkenes using BX3 (X = Cl, Br) as the halogen source and activating reagents was reported. Various halogenated 1,3-oxazine/2-oxazoline derivatives were obtained in good-to-high yields. Using BF3 resulted in different substitute sites from BBr3 and BCl3 of the products, indicating different reactive intermediates and reaction pathways. The reaction underwent a "ligand coupling/oxidative addition/intermolecular nucleophilic attack/1,2-aryl migration/reductive elimination/intramolecular nucleophilic attack" cascade when BF3 was applied as the halogen source, while 1,2-aryl migration has "disappeared" when the halogen source was BBr3 or BCl3. Possible catalytic cycles were proposed, and DFT calculations were conducted to demonstrate the differences among BX3 (X = F, Cl, Br) in the hypervalent iodine-catalyzed halogenations.

Abstract
The asymmetric Mannich reaction of 2-fluoroindanone with ketimine was developed under the catalysis of a kind of chiral copper complex, affording a chiral tetrahedral center containing fluorine. A series of β-fluoroamine derivatives can be obtained in excellent yields (73-94%) with high diastereoselectivities (>99:1 dr) and enantioselectivities (89-99%). The possible transition state was supported by density functional theory calculation.

Abstract
A safe and operationally simple protocol for the preparation of β-d-glycosyl fluorides is presented. We demonstrate that a precise combination of XtalFluor-M, N-bromosuccinimide, and Et3N·3HF can mediate facile, high-yielding, and diastereoselective conversions of 2-O-acyl thioglycosides to β-d- and other 1,2-trans glycosyl fluorides. The key roles of these reagents are dissected in this work, as is the impact of their interplay on the fluorination stereoselectivity.

Abstract
Electrophilic aminating reagents have seen a renaissance in recent years as effective nitrogen sources for the synthesis of unprotected amino functionalities. Based on their reactivity, several noble and non-noble transition metal catalysed amination reactions have been developed. These include the aziridination and difunctionalisation of alkenes, the amination of arenes as well as the synthesis of aminated sulfur compounds. In particular, the use of hydroxylamine-derived (N-O) reagents, such as PONT (PivONH3OTf), has enabled the introduction of unprotected amino groups on various different feedstock compounds, such as alkenes, arenes and thiols. This strategy obviates undesired protecting-group manipulations and thus improves step efficiency and atom economy. Overall, this feature article gives a recent update on several reactions that have been unlocked by employing versatile hydroxylamine-derived aminating reagents, which facilitate the generation of unprotected primary, secondary and tertiary amino groups.

Abstract
1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) is a polar, strongly hydrogen bond-donating solvent that has found numerous uses in organic synthesis due to its ability to stabilize ionic species, transfer protons, and engage in a range of other intermolecular interactions. The use of this solvent has exponentially increased in the past decade and has become a solvent of choice in some areas, such as C-H functionalization chemistry. In this review, following a brief history of HFIP in organic synthesis and an overview of its physical properties, literature examples of organic reactions using HFIP as a solvent or an additive are presented, emphasizing the effect of solvent of each reaction.

Abstract
The regio‐ and enantio‐selective, intermolecular vicinal fluoroamination of α‐trifluoromethyl styrenes has been achieved by enantioselective II/IIII catalysis. Leveraging C2‐symmetric resorcinol‐based aryl iodide catalysts, it has been possible to intercept the transient iodonium intermediate using simple nitriles, which function as both the solvent and nucleophile. In situ Ritter reaction provides direct access to the corresponding amides (up to 89 % yield, e.r. 93 : 7). This main group catalysis paradigm inverts the intrinsic regioselectivity of the uncatalyzed process, thereby providing facile access to tertiary, benzylic stereocenters bearing both CF3 and F groups. Privileged phenethylamine pharmacophores can be generated in which there is complete local partial charge inversion (CF3δ−/Fδ− versus CH3δ+/Hδ+). Crystallographic analyses of representative β‐fluoroamide products reveal highly pre‐organized conformations that manifest the stereoelectronic gauche effect.

Bifunctional sulfilimines enable synthesis of multiple N-heterocycles from alkenes. Nat Chem 2022; 14:898-904. Abstract
Intramolecular cyclization of nitrogen-containing molecules onto pendant alkenes is an efficient strategy for the construction of N-heterocycles, which are of paramount importance in, for example, pharmaceuticals and materials. Similar intermolecular cyclization reactions, however, are scarcer for nitrogen building blocks, including N-centred radicals, and divergent and modular versions are not established. Here we report the use of sulfilimines as bifunctional N-radical precursors for cyclization reactions with alkenes to produce N-unprotected heterocycles in a single step through photoredox catalysis. Structurally diverse sulfilimines can be synthesized in a single step, and subsequently engage with alkenes to afford synthetically valuable five-, six- and seven-membered heterocycles. The broad and diverse scope is achievable by a radical-polar crossover annulation enabled by the bifunctional character of the reagents, which distinguishes itself from all other N-centred-radical-based reactions. The modular synthesis of the sulfilimines allows for larger structural diversity of N-heterocycle products than is currently achievable with other single cyclization methods. ![]()
Intermolecular cyclization reactions using nitrogen-containing building blocks are scarce. Now, bifunctional sulfilimines have been shown to enable the modular construction of a diverse range of N-heterocycles by reacting with alkenes in a single photocatalysed step. Both sulfilimines and alkenes are easily accessible, providing access to a wide range of N-heterocycles with different ring types, ring sizes and substituents on the skeleton.

Abstract
Hypervalent iodine catalyst-catalyzed nucleophilic fluorination of unsaturated amides using BF3·Et2O as the fluorine source and activating reagent was reported. Various 5-fluoro-2-oxazoline derivatives were synthesized in good to excellent yields (up to 95% isolated yield) within 10 min. The process was efficient and metal-free under mild conditions. A mechanism involving a fluorination/1,2-aryl migration/cyclization cascade was proposed on the basis of previous work and experimental results.

Abstract
A deoxygenative geminal fluorosulfonimidation of 1,2-diketones was achieved for the synthesis of tetrasubstituted α-fluoroamines under mild conditions. In this study, a transition metal-free formal N-F insertion of N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide was enabled via the Kukhtin-Ramirez reaction employing a dealkylation-resistant P(III) reagent developed in our laboratory. Computational analysis was also performed to obtain a general mechanistic picture, which explained the reactivity and selectivity for this type of reaction.

Abstract
![]()
Herein, we study
the mechanism of iron-catalyzed direct synthesis
of unprotected aminoethers from olefins by a hydroxyl amine derived
reagent using a wide range of analytical and spectroscopic techniques
(Mössbauer, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance, Ultra-Violet Visible
Spectroscopy, X-ray Absorption, Nuclear Resonance Vibrational Spectroscopy,
and resonance Raman) along with high-level quantum chemical calculations.
The hydroxyl amine derived triflic acid salt acts as the “oxidant”
as well as “amino” group donor. It activates the high-spin
Fe(II) (St = 2) catalyst [Fe(acac)2(H2O)2] (1) to generate
a high-spin (St = 5/2) intermediate (Int I), which decays to a second intermediate (Int II) with St = 2. The analysis of spectroscopic
and computational data leads to the formulation of Int I as [Fe(III)(acac)2-N-acyloxy] (an alkyl-peroxo-Fe(III)
analogue). Furthermore, Int II is formed by N–O
bond homolysis. However, it does not generate a high-valent
Fe(IV)(NH) species (a Fe(IV)(O) analogue), but instead a high-spin
Fe(III) center which is strongly antiferromagnetically coupled (J = −524 cm–1) to an iminyl radical,
[Fe(III)(acac)2-NH·], giving St = 2. Though Fe(NH) complexes as isoelectronic surrogates
to Fe(O) functionalities are known, detection of a high-spin Fe(III)-N-acyloxy intermediate (Int I), which undergoes
N–O bond cleavage to generate the active iron–nitrogen
intermediate (Int II), is unprecedented. Relative to
Fe(IV)(O) centers, Int II features a weak elongated Fe–N
bond which, together with the unpaired electron density along the
Fe–N bond vector, helps to rationalize its propensity for N-transfer reactions onto styrenyl olefins, resulting in
the overall formation of aminoethers. This study thus demonstrates
the potential of utilizing the iron-coordinated nitrogen-centered
radicals as powerful reactive intermediates in catalysis.

Abstract
Herein, we report the development of an iron-catalyzed olefin oxyamidation by utilizing tethered dioxazolones as the nitrenoid precursor to produce valuable β-lactam scaffolds. Mechanistic studies revealed that a relatively strong π-accepting ability of the phthalocyanine ligand is critical in generating the key triplet iron-imidyl radical intermediate to enable the 4-exo-trig-lactamization with the incorporation of oxygen nucleophiles in high diastereoselectivity. This cyclization approach was readily extended to the highly efficient γ-lactam synthesis (TON > 300).

Abstract
The development of environmentally benign, inexpensive, and earth-abundant metal catalysts is desirable from both an ecological and economic standpoint. Certainly, in the past couple decades, iron has become a key player in the development of sustainable coupling chemistry and has become an indispensable tool in organic synthesis. Over the last ten years, organic chemistry has witnessed substantial improvements in efficient synthesis because of domino reactions. These protocols are more atom-economic, produce less waste, and demand less time compared to a classical stepwise reaction. Although iron-catalyzed domino reactions require a mindset that differs from the more routine noble-metal, homogenous iron catalysis they bear the chance to enable coupling reactions that rival that of noble-metal-catalysis. This review provides an overview of iron-catalyzed domino coupling reactions of π-systems. The classifications and reactivity paradigms examined should assist readers and provide guidance for the design of novel domino reactions.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalysed, non-enzymatic transformations of C-H and C=C bonds to C-N bonds through nitrene transfer (NT) are powerful synthetic tools to prepare valuable amine building blocks. Although the first examples of racemic NT were reported more than 50 years ago, catalysts that mediate enantioselective NT with a broad substrate scope have been slow to emerge. However, the past ten years have seen the discovery of several first-row, second-row and third-row transition metal catalysts for asymmetric NT. This Review covers recent developments in asymmetric aziridination and C-H bond amination reactions. We describe catalyst design principles, re-evaluate traditional catalyst architectures, show how the scope of nitrene precursors has expanded and present new mechanistic insights. Following this, we highlight remaining opportunities and challenges to developing more practical and general synthetic methodologies. Realizing chemoselective, site-selective and enantioselective intermolecular NT will streamline amine synthesis and allow us to explore new chemical space.

Abstract
A cobalt-catalyzed aminofluorination reaction of styrenes with N-fluorosulfonamides serving as both the amination and fluorination agents has been developed. The switch of selectivity in this catalytic reaction from aminofluorination to diamination could be easily achieved by the addition of 1.0 equiv of PPh3. Both transformations tolerated a wide array of substrates under mild reaction conditions.

Abstract
Alkenes are versatile building blocks in modern organic synthesis. In the difunctionalization reactions of alkenes, two functional groups can be simultaneously introduced into the π system. This is an efficient strategy for the synthesis of multifunctional compounds with complex structures and has the advantages of atom and step economy. Nitrogen-containing organic compounds are widely found in natural products and synthetic compounds, such as dyes, pesticides, medicines, artificial resins, and so on. Many natural products with high biological activity and a broad range of drugs have nitrogen-containing functional groups. The research on the construction methods of C-N bonds has always been one of the most important tasks in organic synthesis, especially in drug synthesis, and the synthetic methods starting from simple and easily available raw materials have been a topic of interest to chemists. The aminative difunctionalization of alkenes can efficiently construct C-N bonds, and at the same time, prepare some compounds that usually require multiple steps of reaction. It is one of the most effective strategies for the simple and efficient synthesis of functionalized nitrogen-containing compounds. This review outlines the major developments focusing on the transition metal-catalyzed or metal-free diamination, aminohalogenation, aminocarbonation, amino-oxidation and aminoboronation reactions of alkenes from 2015-2020.

Abstract
An iron catalyzed reaction for the selective transformation of thiols (-SH) to sulfinamides (-SONH2 ) by a direct transfer of -O and free -NH2 groups has been developed. The reaction operates under mild conditions using a bench stable hydroxylamine derived reagent, exhibits broad functional group tolerance, is scalable and proceeds without the use of any precious metal catalyst or additional oxidant. This novel, practical reaction leads to the formation of two distinct new bonds (S=O and S-N) in a single step to chemoselectively form valuable, unprotected sulfinamide products. Preliminary mechanistic studies implicate the role of the alcoholic solvent as an oxygen atom donor.

Abstract
Carbonyl propargylation has been established as a valuable tool in the realm of carbon-carbon bond forming reactions. The 1,3-enyne moiety has been recognized as an alternative pronucleophile in the above transformation through an ionic mechanism. Herein, we report for the first time, the radical carbonyl propargylation through dual chromium/photoredox catalysis. A library of valuable homopropargylic alcohols bearing all-carbon quaternary centers could be obtained by a catalytic radical three-component coupling of 1,3-enynes, aldehydes and suitable radical precursors (41 examples). This redox-neutral multi-component reaction occurs under very mild conditions and shows high functional group tolerance. Remarkably, bench-stable, non-toxic, and inexpensive CrCl3 could be employed as a chromium source. Preliminary mechanistic investigations suggest a radical-polar crossover mechanism, which offers a complementary and novel approach towards the preparation of valuable synthetic architectures from simple chemicals.

Abstract
The regioselective synthesis of fluorinated allenes via a metal-free 1,4-fluoroamination of 1,3-enynes is presented. This method employs commercially available N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide serving as both the nitrogen source and the fluorine source, affording access to various tetrasubstituted allenes in a straightforward and atom-economic pathway. Preliminary mechanistic studies and theoretical studies revealed that this reaction might undergo an intimate ion-pair mechanism.

Abstract
Reactions of difluoroiodotoluene with NH‐sulfoximines provide new hypervalent iodine(III) reagents, which photocatalytically transfer a fluoro and a sulfoximidoyl group onto styrenes with high regioselectivity. The substrate scope is broad with respect to both sulfoximines and olefins. Following an operationally simple protocol, a large library of fluorine‐containing N‐functionalized sulfoximines can be accessed. Results from mechanistic investigations revealed the importance of radical intermediates.

Abstract
An economical and practical azol-halogenation protocol of alkenes, which provides a general approach to construct a series of structurally diverse β-halogenated amine derivatives, is reported. The wide substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, ease of large-scale preparation and potential for product derivatization make this reaction attractive. Mechanistic studies suggest that the azol-halogenation process might involve a radical halogenation followed by nucleophilic azolyation.

Abstract
An enantioselective oxidative coupling of 2-naphthol derivatives is developed with the use of chiral Fe(ii)-diphosphine oxide complexes. Optically active 1,1-bi-2-naphthol derivatives can be synthesized in high yields when a 2 : 1 complex of (S)-xylyl-iPrO-BIPHEP-oxide and Fe(OTf)2 is used in the presence of t-butyl hydroperoxide as an oxidant. The non-linear effect, X-ray crystal structure and ESI-MS suggest that a 2 : 1 complex of (S)-xylyl-iPrO-BIPHEP-oxide and Fe(OTf)2 is a pre-catalyst for a Fe(iii)/Fe(iv) redox cycle.

Abstract
A three-component reaction for 1,2-amino oxygenation of 1,3-dienes has been achieved using O-acyl hydroxylamines and carboxylic acids. The reaction occurs through copper-catalyzed amination of olefins followed by nucleophilic addition of carboxylic acids, offering high levels of chemo-, regio-, and site-selectivity. The method is effective for both terminal and internal 1,3-dienes, including those bearing multiple, unsymmetrical substituents. The amino oxygenation conditions also exhibited remarkable selectivity toward 1,3-dienes over alkenes, good tolerance of sensitive functional groups, and reliable scalability.
