Abstract
The platform C14-C40, which can be used to prepare bistramide C and 39-oxobistramide K, was synthesized in 19 steps with an overall yield of 6.2%. Furthermore, the chemoselective reduction of the ketone at C-39 was performed giving an easy access to bistramides A, B, D, K, and L. Finally, the versatility of the synthesis of the C14-C40 fragment can allow the preparation of a large variety of stereoisomers to produce bistramide analogues.

Abstract
The syntheses and anti-tuberculosis activity of quinolone-cephalosporin conjugates (1 and 2) are described. Both showed broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and significant anti-TB activity. The carbamate-linked quinolone-cephem 2 showed better antimycobacterial activity, including anti-TB activity, than the direct amine-linked quinolone-cephem 1, while quinolone-cephem 1 was slightly more effective against some Gram-negative bacterial strains.

Abstract
A novel series of non-nucleoside HCV NS5B polymerase inhibitors was prepared from a (2Z)-2-benzoylamino-3-(4-phenoxy-phenyl)-acrylic acid template. Solution and solid phase analog synthesis focused on the northern region of the template combined with structure based design led to the discovery of several potent and orally bioavailable lead compounds.

Abstract
The preparation of solid supported glycine phosphonate and its utilization for the total synthesis of two natural products is presented. The proposed protocol combines diversity with accessibility and speed, which makes this scaffold suitable for automated parallel synthesis and combinatorial chemistry. The preparation of a small library of dehydro-2,5-diketopiperazines, combining several natural amino acids with diverse heterocycles (including thiazoles, pyridines, indoles and imidazoles), is also demonstrated.

Abstract
N-acyl- and N-alkoxycarbonylaminophthalimides are prepared using a convenient reaction and are efficiently used as acid partners in Mitsunobu reaction. This reaction allows them to be alkylated by primary, secondary or benzyl groups. Comparison of the reactivities and pK(a) values of these N-substituted aminophthalimides suggest that the success of the Mitsunobu reaction in this case seems to be governed more by steric than by electronic effects. A final dephthaloylation step results in an efficient method for the preparation of 1,1-substituted hydrazines.
