Abstract
Polymorphic transformation is important in chemical industries, in particular, in those involving explosive molecular crystals. However, due to simulating challenges in the rare event method and collective variables, understanding the transformation mechanism of molecular crystals with a complex structure at the molecular level is poor. In this work, with the constructed order parameters (OPs) and K-means clustering algorithm, the potential of mean force (PMF) along the minimum free-energy path connecting β-HMX and δ-HMX was calculated by the finite temperature string method in the collective variables (SMCV), the free-energy profile and nucleation kinetics were obtained by Markovian milestoning with Voronoi tessellations, and the temperature effect on nucleation was also clarified. The barriers of transformation were affected by the finite-size effects. The configuration with the lower potential barrier in the PMF corresponded to the critical nucleus. The time and free-energy barrier of the polymorphic transformation were reduced as the temperature increased, which was explained by the pre-exponential factor and nucleation rate. Thus, the polymorphic transformation of HMX could be controlled by the temperatures, as is consistent with previous experimental results. Finally, the HMX polymorph dependency of the impact sensitivity was discussed. This work provides an effective way to reveal the polymorphic transformation of the molecular crystal with a cyclic molecular structure, and further to prepare the desired explosive by controlling the transformation temperature.

Abstract
Polymorphic transformation of molecular crystals is a fundamental phase transition process, and it is important practically in the chemical, material, biopharmaceutical, and energy storage industries. However, understanding of the transformation mechanism at the molecular level is poor due to the extreme simulating challenges in enhanced sampling and formulating order parameters (OPs) as the collective variables that can distinguish polymorphs with quite similar and complicated structures so as to describe the reaction coordinate. In this work, two kinds of OPs for CL-20 were constructed by the bond distances, bond orientations and relative orientations. A K-means clustering algorithm based on the Euclidean distance and sample weight was used to smooth the initial finite temperature string (FTS), and the minimum free energy path connecting β-CL-20 and ε-CL-20 was sketched by the string method in collective variables, and the free energy profile along the path and the nucleation kinetics were obtained by Markovian milestoning with Voronoi tessellations. In comparison with the average-based sampling, the K-means clustering algorithm provided an improved convergence rate of FTS. The simulation of transformation was independent of OP types but was affected greatly by finite-size effects. A surface-mediated local nucleation mechanism was confirmed and the configuration located at the shoulder of potential of mean force, rather than overall maximum, was confirmed to be the critical nucleus formed by the cooperative effect of the intermolecular interactions. This work provides an effective way to explore the polymorphic transformation of caged molecular crystals at the molecular level.

Abstract
We investigate the phase behavior of model ternary triacylglycerol blends, comprising triolein (C57H104O6, OOO), tripalmitin (C51H98O6, PPP) and tristearin (C57H110O6, SSS), building upon extensive characterisation of single and binary mixtures, in order to rigorously map the thermal transitions of model natural 'fats'. A combination of calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and FTIR spectroscopy is employed to determine crystallisation and melting temperatures and identify the corresponding phases in the complex ternary system. We recover the eutectic behaviour of SSS-PPP blends and the invariability of OOO neat transitions, and resolve the complex β' + β ternary surface, reflecting the roles of unsaturation and polymorphism of its constituents. Our results provide a representation of the OOO:PPP:SSS:temperature phase behaviour into a triangular prism, consistent with binary pair-wise data, which can inform a range of food science, cosmetic, pharmaceutical and cleaning applications that depend strongly on the physical-chemistry of such multicomponent 'triglycerides'.

Abstract
The crystallization properties of triacylglycerols (TAGs) strongly determine the functional properties of natural lipids. The polymorphic and mixing phase behavior of TAG molecules have long been, and still are, a hot topic of research with special relevance for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food industry. To avoid the difficulties arising from the study of whole real fats, studies at the molecular level on mixtures of a limited number of TAGs has become an indispensable tool to identify the underlying causes of the physical properties in lipid systems. In particular, phase diagrams of binary mixtures of TAGs exhibiting a different degree of heterogeneity (monoacid or mixed fatty acids; molecular symmetry; the presence of cis or trans double bonds) have resulted in a significant breakthrough in our knowledge about structure-interaction-function relationships. The present work aims to provide an overview of the main reports regarding binary and ternary TAG systems, from the early studies to the most recent developments.

Abstract
The study of triacylglycerols (TAGs) in their molten state is of fundamental importance for a deeper understanding of the TAG crystallization processes, being highly relevant for both manufacturing and medical applications. Although different models have been proposed to explain the nanostructured nature of the fluid state of TAGs, none of them are fully satisfactory. In this paper, we propose a new model consisting of positionally uncorrelated lamellar TAG assemblies embedded in an isotropic medium that assist as prenucleating structures. This model was validated by applying a novel global fitting method, resulting in an excellent agreement with the small-angle X-ray scattering data. A deeper analysis of the scattering patterns at different temperatures, both in cooling and heating directions, allowed us further to detect the crystalline traces of TAGs even after heating to 40 °C and record, on cooling, the onset of crystallization at 30-25 °C. The application of the presented novel model not only explains the outstandingly structured fluid of molten TAGs, but also lays the basis for analyzing first the crystallization steps in greater detail, which is outlined in our follow-up paper "Global Small-Angle X-ray Scattering Data Analysis of Triacylglycerols in the α-Phase (Part II)".
