Abstract
Fluorinated polymeric nanoparticles (FPNPs) combine unique properties of fluorocarbon and polymeric nanoparticles, which has stimulated massive interest for decades. However, fluoropolymers are not readily available from nature, resulting in synthetic developments to obtain FPNPs via free radical polymerizations. Recently, while increasing cutting-edge directions demand tailored FPNPs, such materials have been difficult to access via conventional approaches. Reversible-deactivation radical polymerizations (RDRPs) are powerful methods to afford well-defined polymers. Researchers have applied RDRPs to the fabrication of FPNPs, enabling the construction of particles with improved complexity in terms of structure, composition, morphology, and functionality. Related examples can be classified into three categories. First, well-defined fluoropolymers synthesized via RDRPs have been utilized as precursors to form FPNPs through self-folding and solution self-assembly. Second, thermally and photoinitiated RDRPs have been explored to realize in situ preparations of FPNPs with varied morphologies via polymerization-induced self-assembly and cross-linking copolymerization. Third, grafting from inorganic nanoparticles has been investigated based on RDRPs. Importantly, those advancements have promoted studies toward promising applications, including magnetic resonance imaging, biomedical delivery, energy storage, adsorption of perfluorinated alkyl substances, photosensitizers, and so on. This Review should present useful knowledge to researchers in polymer science and nanomaterials and inspire innovative ideas for the synthesis and applications of FPNPs.

Abstract
Nanoparticle morphology significantly affects the application of nanometer-scale materials. Understanding nanoparticle formation mechanisms and directing morphological control in nanoparticle self-assembly processes have received wide attention. Herein, a series of brush-like amphiphilic liquid crystalline block copolymers, PChEMA m- b-POEGMA n, containing cholesteryl mesogens with different hydrophobic/hydrophilic block ratios were designed and synthesized. The self-assembly behaviors of the resulting PChEMA m- b-POEGMA n block copolymers in different solvents (tetrahydrofuran/H2O, 1,4-dioxane/H2O, and N, N-dimethylformamide) were investigated in detail. Desirable micellar aggregates with well-organized architectures, including short cylindrical micelles, nanofibers, fringed platelets, and ellipsoidal vesicles with smectic micellar cores, were observed in 1,4-dioxane/H2O with an increasing hydrophobic block ratio. Although both amphiphilicity and smectic order governed the self-assembly, these two factors were differently balanced in the different solvents. This unique supramolecular system provides a new strategy for the design of advanced functional nanomaterials with tunable morphologies.

Abstract
We have contrasted the behavior of nanoparticles formed by the self-assembly of polymers based on poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(D,L-lactide), with linear, linear-dendritic and bottle-brush architectures in biologically relevant media. Polymer PEG content ranged between 14% and 46% w/w, and self-assembly was triggered by a rapid and large change in solvent quality inside a four-stream vortex mixer. We examined nanoparticle interaction with human serum albumin (HSA), and solute release in the presence of fetal bovine serum. Dynamic light scattering data showed that PEG surface brushes of all nanoparticles provided effective steric stabilization, thus limiting their interaction with human serum albumin. Calorimetric experiments revealed that nanoparticle-HSA interaction was relatively weak and enthalpically driven, whereas dynamic light scattering results of incubated nanoparticles showed the absence of larger aggregates for most of the polymers examined. Solute core partitioning was examined by the loss of Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) from a core-loaded donor-acceptor pair. The rate and magnitude of FRET efficiency loss was strongly dependent on the polymer architecture, and was found to be lowest for the bottle-brush, attributed to its covalent nature. Collectively, these findings are expected to impact the molecular design of increasingly stable polymeric carriers for drug delivery applications.

Synthesis of Fluorinated Amphiphilic Block Copolymers Based on PEGMA, HEMA, and MMA via ATRP and CuAAC Click Chemistry. INT J POLYM SCI 2014. Abstract
Synthesis of fluorinated amphiphilic block copolymers via atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and Cu(I) catalyzed Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (CuAAC) was demonstrated. First, a PEGMA and MMA based block copolymer carrying multiple side-chain acetylene moieties on the hydrophobic segment for postfunctionalization was carried out. This involves the synthesis of a series of P(HEMA-co-MMA) random copolymers to be employed as macroinitiators in the controlled synthesis of P(HEMA-co-MMA)-block-PPEGMA block copolymers by using ATRP, followed by a modification step on the hydroxyl side groups of HEMA via Steglich esterification to afford propargyl side-functional polymer, alkyne-P(HEMA-co-MMA)-block-PPEGMA. Finally, click coupling between side-chain acetylene functionalities and 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorobenzyl azide yielded fluorinated amphiphilic block copolymers. The obtained polymers were structurally characterized by1H-NMR,19F-NMR, FT-IR, and GPC. Their thermal characterizations were performed using DSC and TGA.

Abstract
A biodegradable multi-arm polymer β-cyclodextrin-poly (ε-caprolactone) (CD-PCL) with a ``jellyfish-like'' structure was obtained, in which flexible and hydrophobic PCL arms were selectively grafted to the wide side of the hydrophilic torus-shaped β-CD. The amphiphilic "jellyfish-like'' polymer with a hollow cavity and hydrophobic tails could orthogonally self-assemble into a new amphiphilic supramolecular copolymer CD-PCL/FcPEG with poly (ethylene oxide) end-decorated by ferrocene (FcPEG) in aqueous solution based on terminal hydrophobic interactions. The chemical structures of CD-PCL and CD-PCL/FcPEG were characterized by IR, NMR and UV and their self-assembled structures in water were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). CD-PCL alone self-assembled into nano vesicles in water, while CD-PCL/FcPEG into nanospheres. The supramolecular nanospheres were further investigated by cyclic voltammogram. The results indicated that the ferrocenyl groups which were embedded into the hydrophobic core of the supramolecular nanospheres could not transmit electrons or carry out electrochemical oxidation and reduction reaction.

Abstract
Poly(allyl glycidyl ether) (PAGE) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) blocks were sequentially grown via anionic polymerization to form four block copolymer arms on a cholic acid (CA) core, yielding star block copolymers (CA(AGE(8)-b-EG(n))(4)) with low polydispersities (ca. 1.05). The introduction of PAGE segments into CA(PEG)(4) significantly reduced their crystallinity. The polymers can aggregate in water at room temperature above their critical aggregation concentration. The copolymers are thermoresponsive; their behavior in aqueous solutions was studied by the use of UV-visible spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering, and transmission electron microscopy. Their cloud points vary from 13 to 55 °C with increasing length of the PEG segments. Double thermoresponsive behavior was observed with short PEG segments because of a two-step transition process: small micelles are formed upon heating and then further aggregate into micellar clusters through the association of PEG chains.

Abstract
This review deals with the synthesis, physical properties, and applications of amphiphilic block copolymers based on hydrophilic poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) or hydrophobic poly(propylene oxide) (PPO). Oligomeric PEO and PPO are frequently functionalized by converting their OH end groups into macroinitiators for atom-transfer radical polymerization. They are then used to generate additional blocks as part of complex copolymer architectures. Adding hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks, respectively, leads to polymers with amphiphilic character in water. They are surface active and form micelles above a critical micellization concentration. Together with recent developments in post-polymerization techniques through quantitative coupling reactions (‘click’ chemistry) a broad variety of tailored functionalities can be introduced to the amphiphilic block copolymers. Examples are outlined including stimuli responsiveness, membrane penetrating ability, formation of multi-compartmentalized micelles, etc.
