Abstract
Side substitution is an effective method for the chemical modification and functionalization of linear polyesters. The presence of side groups can have a profound effect on the crystalline structure and phase transition of semicrystalline polyesters. Herein, we synthesized the long-spaced polyesters with -OH and -CH3 side groups and various methylene segment lengths and studied the effects of the side groups on the crystal polymorph and phase transition of substituted polyesters. The substituted polyesters grow in the thermally stable phase (form I) at a higher temperature. However, the polyesters crystallize in a metastable hexagonal phase (form II) with trans chain conformation at a lower temperature. The metastable form II transforms into the more stable form I during long-time annealing or upon heating; this phase transition is accompanied by chain tilting and crystal lamellar thickening. This study has elucidated the critical role of side groups in the polymorphic crystallization and phase transition of linear polyesters.

Abstract
Supramolecular polymers allow access to dynamic materials, where noncovalent interactions can be used to offer both enhanced material toughness and stimuli-responsiveness. The versatility of self-assembly has enabled these supramolecular motifs to be incorporated into a wide array of glassy and elastomeric materials; moreover, the interaction of these noncovalent motifs with their environment has shown to be a convenient platform for controlling material properties. In this Viewpoint, supramolecular polymers are examined through their self-assembly chemistries, approaches that can be used to control their self-assembly (e.g., covalent cross-links, nanofillers, etc.), and how the strategic application of supramolecular polymers can be used as a platform for designing the next generation of smart materials. This Viewpoint provides an overview of the aspects that have garnered interest in supramolecular polymer chemistry, while also highlighting challenges faced and innovations developed by researchers in the field.

Abstract
![]()
The
origin of unique rheological response in supramolecular brush
polymers is investigated using different polymer chemistries (poly(methyl
acrylate) (PmA) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)), topologies (linear
or star), and molecular weights. A recently developed hydrogen-bonding
moiety (1-(6-isocyanatohexyl)-3-(7-oxo-7,8-dihydro-1,8-naphthyridin-2-yl)-urea)
(ODIN) was coupled to PmAs and PEGs to form supramolecular brush polymers,
the backbone of which is formed by the associated moieties. At low
molecular weights of monofunctionalized polymers (both PmA and PEG),
the formed brushes are mostly composed of a thick backbone (with very
short arms) and are surrounded by other similar brush polymers, which
prevent them from diffusing and relaxing. Therefore, the monofunctionalized
PmA with a low Mn does not show terminal
flow even at the highest experimentally studied temperature (or at
longest time scales). By increasing the length of the chains, supramolecular
brushes with longer arms are obtained. Due to their lower density
of thick backbones, these last ones have more space to move and their
relaxation is therefore enhanced. In this work, we show that despite
similarities between covalent and transient brush polymers, the elastic
response in the latter does not originate from the brush entanglements
with a large Me (entanglement molecular
weight), but it rather stems from the impenetrable rigid backbone
and caging effect similar to the one described for hyperstars.

Abstract
Over the past few years, the concurrent (1) development of polymer synthesis and (2) introduction of new mathematical models for polymer dynamics have evolved the classical framework for polymer dynamics once established by Doi-Edwards/de Gennes. Although the analysis of supramolecular polymer dynamics based on linear rheology has improved a lot recently, there are a large number of insecurities behind the conclusions, which originate from the complexity of these novel systems. The interdependent effect of supramolecular entities (stickers) and chain dynamics can be overwhelming depending on the type and location of stickers as well as the architecture and chemistry of polymers. This Perspective illustrates these parameters and strives to determine what is still missing and has to be improved in the future works.

Abstract
This paper presents the effect of end groups, chain structure, and stereocomplexation on the microparticle and nanoparticle morphology and thermal properties of the supramolecular triblock copolyesters. Therefore, the series of the triblock copolymers composed of l,l- and d,d-lactide, trimethylene carbonate (TMC), and ε-caprolactone (CL) with isopropyl ( iPr) or 2-ureido-4-[1 H]-pyrimidinone (UPy) end groups at both chain ends were synthesized. In addition, these copolymers were intermoleculary stereocomplexed by polylactide (PLA) blocks with an opposite configuration of repeating units to promote their self-assembly in various organic solvents. The combination of two noncovalent interactions of the end groups and PLA enantiomeric chains leads to stronger interactions between macromolecules and allows for alteration of their segmental mobility. The simple tuning of the copolymer microstructure and functionality induced the self-assembly of macromolecules at liquid/liquid interfaces, which consequently leads to their phase separation in the form of particles with diameters ranging from 0.1 μm to 10 μm. This control is essential for their potential applications in the biomedical field, where biocompatible and well-defined microparticles and nanoparticles are highly desirable.

Abstract
A novel UPy-functionalized alcohol was synthesized and used to initiate the solvent-free ROP of lactide to attain UPy-functionalized PLLA and PDLA. The crystallization rate and stereocomplexation ability of UPy-functionalized PLLA/PDLA blends were promoted.
