Abstract
The stereoselective construction of all-carbon quaternary stereocenters, especially acyclic ones, represents an important challenge in organic synthesis. In particular, homopropargyl amides with a quaternary stereocenter β to a nitrogen atom are valuable synthetic intermediates, which could be transformed to diverse chiral structures through alkyne transformations. However, highly enantioselective synthetic methods for homopropargyl amides with a β quaternary stereocenter are extremely rare. We report here unprecedented substrate-directed, iridium-catalyzed enantioselective hydroalkynylations of trisubstituted alkenes to form an acyclic all-carbon quaternary stereocenter β to a nitrogen atom. The hydroalkynylation of enamide occurred with unconventional selectivity, favoring the more hindered reaction site. Homopropargyl amides with β-stereocenters were prepared in high regio- and enantioselectivities. Combined experimental and computational studies revealed the origin of the regio- and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A simple one-pot synthesis of β-hydroxyallenamides is reported. This procedure entails chemo- and regioselective hydroboration of 3-en-1-ynyl-sulfonylamides with Cy2BH followed by homoallenylation of aldehydes to yield β-hydroxyallenamides (up to 94% yield and >20:1 dr). Controlled synthesis of up to three continuous stereochemical elements was realized. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggest a concerted Zimmerman-Traxler chair-like transition state. Initial results suggest that enantio- and diastereoselective synthesis of β-hydroxyallenamides with optically active hydroboration reagents is viable.

Abstract
The copper-catalyzed asymmetric propargylation of cyclic aldimines is reported. The influence of the imine trimer to inhibit the reaction was identified, and equilibrium constants between the monomer and trimer were determined for general classes of imines. Asymmetric propargylation of a diverse series of N-alkyl and N-aryl aldimines was achieved with good to high asymmetric induction. The utility was demonstrated by a titanium catalyzed hydroamination and reduction to generate the chiral indolizidines (-)-crispine A and (-)-harmicine.

Abstract
Reported is an iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydroalkynylation of enamides with terminal alkynes. The reaction occurs regioselectively at the β-position of an enamide to produce homopropargyl amides. Good to high enantioselectivity was observed with an iridium complex ligated by a chiral bis(phosphine) ligand. This method provides a straightforward route to synthesize chiral homopropargyl amides with a stereocenter β to the amide.

Abstract
Catalytic allylboron additions to aldimines are presented for which small amounts of Zn(OMe)2 serve as the co-catalyst to accelerate allyl exchange and 1,3-borotropic shift processes. Low-yielding and moderately α- and diastereoselective reactions are thus turned into highly efficient γ-, diastereo-, and enantioselective transformations that exhibit considerable scope.

Abstract
![]()
The
enantioselective silver-catalyzed propargylation of N-sulfonylketimines is described. This reaction proceeds
in high yield and excellent enantiomeric ratio and is compatible with
a wide variety of diaryl- and alkylketimines. Synthetic transformations
of homopropargylic products via enyne ring-closing metathesis, Sonogashira
cross-coupling, and reduction reactions proceed with high stereochemical
fidelity. Both allenyl and propargyl borolane reagents can be used
to obtain homopropargylic products, a distribution most consistent
with a mechanism involving transmetalation of the silver catalyst
with the borolane reagent.

Abstract
An organosilane-directed alkyne-alkene reductive coupling of readily available propargylsilanes is used to access densely functionalized chiral allylsilanes. The divergent reactivity of the allylsilanes can be controlled to afford a range of novel carbocyclic ring systems through an intramolecular allylation, [3+2] annulation, and Sakurai-like homodimerization.

Abstract
(E)-δ-Stannyl homoallylic alcohols are prepared by an allene hydroboration-aldehyde allylboration sequence ( Chen , M. et al. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010 , 132, 7881 ). Key to this reaction sequence is that the kinetic allene hydroboration product, 2a, is less stable than and isomerizes to the more sterically congested α-stannylallylborane 3a (see abstract figure). An M06-2X density functional analysis shows that the C-Sn to boron σ-π hyperconjugation interaction is sufficiently stabilizing to override the steric congestion in 3a.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective synthesis of (E)-delta-stannyl homoallylic alcohols 4 via aldehyde allylboration reactions of the double-chiral allylborane reagent 2a is reported. Allylborane 2a was generated from the hydroboration of commercially available allenylstannane 1 with ((d)Ipc)(2)BH at -40 to -20 degrees C followed by a kinetically controlled and highly diastereoselective 1,3-boratropic shift in intermediate 3a.

Abstract
Density functional theory and correlated ab initio quantum mechanical methods were used to locate and analyze alkene hydroboration transition structures for 10-R-9-borabicyclo[3.3.2]decane reagents. Transition-state ensembles quantitatively modeled enantioselectivity for hydroboration of cis-, trans-, and gem-disubstituted alkenes in excellent agreement with experiment. The 10-R group and borabicyclo[3.3.2]decane ring conformation effects were analyzed to understand the origin of asymmetric selectivity.

Abstract
Enantioenriched allenylsilanes are used as carbon nucleophiles in three-component reactions with in situ generated N-sulfonylimines to selectively form syn-homopropargylic sulfonamides. The reactions proceed with a variety of aldehyde and sulfonamide reaction partners. These novel reaction products are obtained with useful levels of diastereoselectivity, and the axial chirality of the allenylsilane is fully transferred to point chirality, forming products with >97% ee.

Abstract
The efficient stepwise construction of optically pure trans-4-substituted 2-boryl-1,3-butadienes 6 is described. Hydroboration of 1-alkynes with either enantiomeric form of 3 leads to the pure trans-1-alkenylboranes 4 which undergo addition of alpha-ethoxyvinyllithium followed by a BF(3)-mediated 1,2-B-->C vinylic group migration to provide 6. These organoboranes 6 serve as a new type of asymmetric allylborating agent providing an extremely selective protocol for the preparation of anti-1,2-disubstituted 3,4-pentadien-1-ols 8 as essentially single diastereomers in enantiomerically pure form. One example of a cis-2-boryl-1,3-butadiene (9) was prepared through a Grignard procedure. It was found to provide the corresponding syn-alcohol 11. The utility of 8 was demonstrated in their conversion to substituted beta-hydroxy acids 12 through ozonolysis and to substituted alpha,beta-unsaturated-delta-lactones 13 through Ru-catalyzed cyclocarbonylation.

Abstract
Simple Grignard procedures provide methallylboranes 1a and 1b in enantiomerically pure form from air-stable precursors in 98% and 95% yields, respectively. These reagents add smoothly to aldehydes and methyl ketones, respectively, providing branched 2 degrees- (6, 69-89%, 94-99% ee) and 3 degrees- (10, 71-87%, 74-96% ee) homoallylic alcohols.
