Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE Higher levels of resilience is associated with improved pain outcomes in chronic pain and other neurological populations, but the role of resilience in pain following spinal cord injury (SCI) remains unclear. This study examined resilience as a moderator in the relationship between perceived stress and both pain intensity and interference during acute rehabilitation for SCI. RESEARCH METHOD/DESIGN Individuals admitted to inpatient rehabilitation acutely following SCI (N = 57) completed measures of perceived stress, resilience, pain intensity, and interference. The Johnson-Neyman procedure was used to examine significance of conditional relationships that emerged. RESULTS Resilience was found to moderate the relationship between perceived stress and pain interference, but not pain intensity, during inpatient rehabilitation. CONCLUSIONS/IMPLICATIONS When resilience is low, perceived stress has a more profound and adverse impact on pain interference during inpatient rehabilitation, suggesting therapeutic strategies that build components of resilience are needed during acute rehabilitation following SCI. The relationship between stress, resilience, and pain may differ postinpatient rehabilitation for SCI and warrants further investigation. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved).

Abstract
Resilience is a positive psychological resource that promotes health. Trait mindfulness was found to be related to resilience. However, previous studies on this relationship have shown contradictory results. The current meta-analysis explored the relationship between trait mindfulness and resilience based on a three-level random-effects meta-analysis model. A significant and positive relationship between trait mindfulness and resilience (r = 0.385; p < 0.0001) was revealed by analyzing 197 effect sizes from 103 studies. Furthermore, the subsequent moderator analysis found that the facet of mindfulness (e.g., awareness, nonjudging) (F(6, 190) = 6.181; p < 0.001), measurement of mindfulness (e.g., the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale) (F(7, 191) = 4.758; p < 0.001), aspect of resilience (e.g., family resilience) (F(5, 191) = 3.455; p < 0.05), measurement of resilience (e.g., the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale) (F(11, 185) = 2.256; p < 0.05), and age (F(1, 150) = 4.588; p < 0.05) acted as significant moderators. Overall, this study confirmed the positive relationship between trait mindfulness and resilience, suggesting that people with higher levels of trait mindfulness were more likely to have higher levels of resilience. The current findings provided insightful information for interventions targeted at improving resilience.

Abstract
STUDY DESIGN A retrospective study. OBJECTIVES The quality of care (QoC) for spinal column/cord injury patients is a major health care concern. This study aimed to implement the QoC assessment tool (QoCAT) in the National Spinal Cord/Column Injury Registry of Iran (NSCIR-IR) to define the current state of pre- and post-hospital QoC of individuals with Traumatic Spinal Column and Spinal Cord Injuries (TSC/SCIs). METHODS The QoCAT, previously developed by our team to measure the QoC in patients with TSC/SCIs, was implemented in the NSCIR-IR. The pre-hospital QoC was evaluated through a retrospective analysis of NSCIR-IR registry data. Telephone interviews and follow-ups of patients with SCI evaluated the QoC in the post-hospital phase. RESULTS In the pre-hospital phase, cervical collars and immobilization were implemented in 46.4% and 48.5% of the cases, respectively. Transport time from the scene to the hospital was documented as <1 hour and <8 hours in 33.4% and 93.9% of the patients, respectively. Post-hospital indicators in patients with SCI revealed a first-year mortality rate of 12.5% (20/160), a high incidence of secondary complications, reduced access to electrical wheelchairs (4.2%) and modified cars (7.7%), and low employment rate (21.4%). CONCLUSION These findings revealed a significant delay in transport time to the first care facilities, low use of immobilization equipment indicating low pre-hospital QoC. Further, the high incidence of secondary complications, low employment rate, and low access to electrical wheelchairs and modified cars indicate lower post-hospital QoC in patients with SCI. These findings imply the need for further planning to improve the QoC for patients with TSC/SCIs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mindfulness has demonstrated strong utility for enhancing self-management and health outcomes in chronic illness. However, sensation-focused mindfulness techniques may not be appropriate for clinical populations with neurological injury. This study aimed to identify how expert mindfulness teachers with sensory loss/impairment naturalistically adapt and experience mindfulness. We aimed to highlight the rationale for and barriers to mindfulness practice when living with sensory loss. METHODS A qualitative, semi-structured interview design was used, analysed via Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Eight (5 females, 3 males) mindfulness teachers with neurological injury were recruited via a national registry of Mindfulness for Health teachers. Interviews (range: 50-93 min) were completed, transcribed verbatim and analysed idiographically for descriptive, linguistic and conceptual themes, before a cross-case analysis was completed. RESULTS Two superordinate themes were identified: (1) Overcoming a disrupted biography; and (2) Proactive self-management. These themes considered the challenge of reconciling, through grief, a past health status with the present reality of living with sensory loss due to Spinal Cord Injury, Multiple Sclerosis or Functional Neurological Disorder. Mindfulness was experienced as a method by which proactive choices could be made to maintain control and autonomy in health, reducing perceptions of suffering, psychological distress, cognitive reactivity and rumination. CONCLUSIONS Mindfulness was found to support the self-management of health after neurological injury/impairment. Mindfulness meditation presented an initial challenge as trauma and grief processes were (re-)activated during mindfulness sessions. However, mindfulness was found to support the resolution of these grief processes and encourage adaptive approach-based coping and acceptance of health and neurological impairment/injury.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Many people with chronic medical conditions experience symptoms that are complex and negatively impact their quality of life (QOL). This review and meta-analysis examined the benefits of mindfulness based art therapy (MBAT) to relieve symptoms. METHODS Included were studies that (a) evaluated an MBAT intervention in adults, (b) included a sufficient effect size and control group, and (c) assessed symptoms and QOL outcomes. RESULTS Fourteen studies sampling adolescents and adults met inclusion criteria. Participants who received MBAT interventions reported significant improvements in psychological and physical symptoms indices compared to controls; the meta-analysis MBAT interventions revealed a medium effect size whereas that for controls the effect size was equivalent to zero. CONCLUSION MBAT is a promising intervention for symptom relief. However, the literature is limited by the small number of studies. Randomized controlled trials with larger samples are needed to validate findings.
