Abstract
A novel one-pot reaction of anilines with acetylenedicarboxylate diesters in the presence of boron trifluoride, iodine, and trifluoroacetic acid or methylsulfonic acid has been developed under solvent-free ball-milling conditions, affording a variety of polysubstituted 1,2-dihydroquinolines bearing multiple ester groups in moderate to excellent yields. The present protocol features mild reaction conditions, short reaction time, and feasibility of large-scale synthesis, providing a facile and practical alternative to 1,2-dihydroquinoline synthesis. Intriguingly, the generated 1,2-dihydroquinolines can be further transformed into quinoline derivatives.

Abstract
4-Acylchromene is an important core structure found in bioactive natural products and bioactive synthetic compounds. Moreover, this core structure is frequently used as a key precursor for the synthesis of more complex molecules. In this work, we discovered that a combination of acetone and catalytic I2 could lead to selective activation of acetal in alkynylarylether dimethylacetal substrates while alkyne moiety remained intact. This activation of acetal led to the generation of oxonium ion intermediate which triggered intramolecular cyclization and elimination of methanol to provide the desired 4-acylchromene as the sole product in up to 95% yield. Moreover, this method could be applied in a broad range of substrates under a mild and metal-free catalytic conditions for the synthesis of 4-acylchromene derivatives.

Abstract
Nazarov reactions of 2-furyl vinyl ketones and related heteroaromatic enones, to produce furan-fused cyclopentanones using a flow photochemical approach, are described. Compounds possessing this connectivity between heterocycle and ketone (2-furyl, 2-benzofuryl, 2-thiophene-yl, and 2-benzothiophene-yl) have traditionally proven difficult or impossible to cyclize with typical Brønsted and Lewis acid mediated methods. Using mild flow photochemistry conditions and acetic acid (AcOH) or hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as solvent, these compounds were found to cyclize in 45-97% yields, with typical UV exposure times of 3.4-6.8 min. In all cases, 2-furyl and 2-thiophene-yl enones cyclized, whereas 2-benzofuryl and 2-benzothiophene-yl enones exhibited divergent properties with reactivity patterns tied to the identity of the vinyl group. This report discloses the first photo-Nazarov reactions of tetrahydropyridine-substituted 2-furyl ketones, providing a direct approach to the corresponding fused heterocyclic motifs built around a central cyclopentanone. These motifs constitute the core structures of biologically active natural products, including the marine alkaloid nakadomarin A.

Abstract
A three component reaction with two different ketones and aromatic amines was firstly investigated. The difference in reactivity between ordinary ketones and ketone esters allowed for the production of 1,2-DHQs efficiently. The possible Skraup reaction with 2 equiv. of the same ketones was prohibited due to the fast formation of imines.

Abstract
N-Methyl-N-((trimethylsilyl)methyl)aniline was employed as reagent in visible-light-induced, iridium-catalyzed addition reactions to cyclic α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds. Typical reaction conditions included the use of one equivalent of the reaction substrate, 1.5 equivalents of the aniline and 2.5 mol % (in MeOH) or 1.0 mol % (in CH2Cl2) [Ir(ppy)2(dtbbpy)]BF4 as the catalyst. Two major reaction products were obtained in combined yields of 30–67%. One product resulted from aminomethyl radical addition, the other product was a tricyclic compound, which is likely formed by attack of the intermediately formed α-carbonyl radical at the phenyl ring. For five-membered α,β-unsaturated lactone and lactam substrates, the latter products were the only products isolated. For the six-membered lactones and lactams and for cyclopentenone the simple addition products prevailed.

Abstract
Highly functionalized cyclopentenones can be generated by a chemoselective copper(II)-mediated Nazarov/Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement sequence of divinyl ketones. A detailed investigation of this sequence is described including a study of substrate scope and limitations. After the initial 4π electrocyclization, this reaction proceeds via two different sequential [1,2]-shifts, with selectivity that depends upon either migratory ability or the steric bulkiness of the substituents at C1 and C5. This methodology allows the creation of vicinal stereogenic centers, including adjacent quaternary centers. This sequence can also be achieved by using a catalytic amount of copper(II) in combination with NaBAr(4)(f), a weak Lewis acid. During the study of the scope of the reaction, a partial or complete E/Z isomerization of the enone moiety was observed in some cases prior to the cyclization, which resulted in a mixture of diastereomeric products. Use of a Cu(II)-bisoxazoline complex prevented the isomerization, allowing high diastereoselectivity to be obtained in all substrate types. In addition, the reaction sequence was studied by DFT computations at the UB3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level, which are consistent with the proposed sequences observed, including E/Z isomerizations and chemoselective Wagner-Meerwein shifts.

Understanding the fate of the oxyallyl cation following Nazarov electrocyclization: sequential Wagner-Meerwein migrations and the synthesis of spirocyclic cyclopentenones. Abstract
A general reaction sequence is described that involves Nazarov cyclization followed by two sequential Wagner-Meerwein migrations, to afford spirocyclic compounds from divinyl ketones in the presence of 1 equiv of copper(II) complexes. A detailed investigation of this sequence is described including a study of substrate scope and limitations. It was found that after 4π electrocyclization, two different pathways are available to the oxyallyl cation intermediate: elimination of a proton can give the usual Nazarov cycloadduct, or ring contraction can give an alternative tertiary carbocation. After ring contraction, either [1,2]-hydride or carbon migration can occur, depending upon the substitution pattern of the substrate, to furnish spirocyclic products. The rearrangement pathway is favored over the elimination pathway when catalyst loading is high and the copper(II) counterion is noncoordinating. Several ligands were found to be effective for the reaction. Thus, the reaction sequence can be controlled by judicious choice of reaction conditions to allow selective generation of richly functionalized spirocycles. The three steps of the sequence are stereospecific: electrocyclization followed by two [1,2]-suprafacial Wagner-Meerwein shifts, the ring contraction and then a hydride, alkenyl, or aryl shift. The method allows stereospecific installation of adjacent stereocenters or adjacent quaternary centers arrayed around a cyclopentenone ring.

Abstract
An easy, efficient and concise approach to tetrahydrofluorene [6,5,6]ABC tricyclic core embedded new polycycles has been achieved under relatively mild and catalytic Nazarov type electrocyclization conditions, using 2 mol% of Sc(OTf)(3) in anhydrous DCM (dichloromethane) at room temperature, with high yields. The generality of the reaction has been illustrated by synthesizing diverse polycycles embedded with rare heterotricyclic [6,5,5]ABC skeletons.
