Two New Compounds Based on Bi-Capped Keggin Polyoxoanions and Cu-Bpy Cations Contain Both CuII and CuI Complexes: Synthesis, Characterization and Properties

Two inorganic-organic hybrid complexes based on bi-capped Keggin-type cluster, {([Cu^II(2,2'-bpy)₂]₂[PMo^VI₈V^V₂V^IV₂O₄₀(V^IVO)₂])[Cu^I(2,2'-bpy)]}∙2H₂O (1) and {[Cu^II(2,2'-bpy)₂]₂[SiMo^VI_8.5Mo^V_2.5V^IVO₄₀(V^IVO)₂]}[Cu^I_0.5(2,2'-bpy)(H₂O)_0.5] (2) (bpy = bipyridine), had been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, TGA, PXRD and X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis. Compound 1 consists of a novel 1-D chain structure constructed from [Cu^I(2,2'-bpy)]⁺ unit linking bi-supported POMs anion {[Cu^II(2,2'-bpy)₂]₂[PMo^VI₈V^V₂V^IV₂O₄₀(V^IVO)₂]}^-. Compound 2 is a bi-capped Keggin cluster bi-supported Cu-bpy complex. The main highlights of the two compounds are that Cu-bpy cations contain both Cu^I and Cu^II complexes. Furthermore, the fluorescence properties, the catalytic properties, and the photocatalytic performance of compounds 1 and 2 have been assessed, and the results show that both compounds are active for styrene epoxidation and degradation and adsorption of Methylene blue (MB), Rhodamine B (RhB) and mixed aqueous solutions.

A Series of Compounds Based on [P2W18O62]6- and Transition Metal Mixed Organic Ligand Complexes with High Catalytic Properties for Styrene Epoxidation

Seven compounds based on [P₂W₁₈O₆₂]^6- ({P₂W₁₈}) were successfully prepared and carefully characterized. [HC₅H₅N][Cu(2,2'-bpy)₂]₂[HP₂W₁₈O₆₂]·2H₂O (bpy = bipyridine) (1) is constructed from {P₂W₁₈} bridged by [Cu(2,2'-bpy)₂]²⁺. [HC₅H₅N][Zn(2,2'-bpy)₂]₂[HP₂W₁₈O₆₂]·4H₂O (1a) is isostructural and isomorphous with compound 1. [Cu₄(2,2'-bpy)₃(nic)₃(OH)₂(H₂O)][H₃P₂W₁₈O₆₂]·0.5H₂O (nic = nicotinic acid) (2) is formed by {P₂W₁₈} and tetracopper transition metal mixed organic ligand complexes (TMMCs). [Cu₂(2,2'-bpy)₂(C₂O₄)]₃[P₂W₁₈O₆₂]·3H₂O (3) is made up of {P₂W₁₈} and bicopper TMMCs, [Cu₆(2,2'-bpy)₆(OH)₆][P₂W₁₈O₆₂]·2H₂O (4) is built up from {P₂W₁₈}, and hexacopper complexes of 2,2'-bpy and hydroxyls. [Cu(2,2'-bpy)(hnic)_0.5][Cu₃(2,2'-bpy)₃(hnic)₂(H₂O)₂][H₃P₂W₁₈O₆₂] (hnic = hydroxyl nicotinic acid) (5a) contains two different TMMCs. In addition, compound 5a is the first example of a compound that contains Cu-π interactions. [Cu₂(2,2'-bpy)₂(hnic)][H₄P₂W₁₈O₆₂]· xH₂O ( x ≈ 50) (5b) is based on {P₂W₁₈} and [Cu₂(2,2'-bpy)₂(hnic)]²⁺. We discuss the mechanisms for the formations of these compounds. All the catalytic performances of the compounds for styrene epoxidation to styrene oxide are high.

Formation Mechanisms of InGaAs Nanowires Produced by a Solid-Source Two-Step Chemical Vapor Deposition

The morphologies and microstructures of Au-catalyzed InGaAs nanowires (NWs) prepared by a two-step solid-source chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method were systematically investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The detailed structural characterization and statistical analysis reveal that two specific morphologies are dominant in InGaAs NWs, a zigzag surface morphology and a smooth surface morphology. The zigzag morphology results from the periodic existence of twining structures, and the smooth morphology results from a lack of twining structures. HRTEM images and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) indicate that the catalyst heads have two structures, Au₄In and AuIn₂, which produce InGaAs NWs in a cubic phase crystalline form. The growth mechanism of the InGaAs NWs begins with Au nanoparticles melting into small spheres. In atoms are diffused into the Au spheres to form an Au-In alloy. When the concentration of In inside the alloy reaches its saturation point, the In precipitate reacts with Ga and As atoms to form InGaAs at the interface between the catalyst and substrate. Once the InGaAs compound forms, additional precipitation and reactions only occur at the interface of the InGaAs and the catalyst. These results provide a fundamental understanding of the InGaAs NW growth process which is critical to the formation of high-quality InGaAs NWs for various device applications.
