Anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory activities of a new family of coordination compounds based on divalent transition metal ions and indazole-3-carboxylic acid. J Inorg Biochem 2020; 215:111308. Abstract
A new family of mononuclear coordination compounds has been synthetized and characterized: [M(3-ind)2(H2O)2] (M = Co (1), Ni (2), Zn (3), Fe (4), Mn (5); 3-ind = indazole-3-carboxylate). These materials are mononuclear coordination compounds that possess strong hydrogen bond interactions. The anti-inflammatory effects of these compounds were assayed in lipopolysaccharide activated RAW 264.7 macrophages by inhibition of NO production. Moreover, the cytotoxicity of the complexes and the ligand in RAW 264.7 cells were determined for the first time. The most significant results were obtained for the compounds 4 and 5 reaching values of NO inhibition close to 80% at 48 h, and above to 90% at 72 h of treatment. The highest inhibitory effects on NO production were showed at the range 7-23 μg/mL for compounds 4 and 5. As a consequence, compounds 4 and 5 could be potential drugs due to the interesting anti-inflammatory properties showed. The anti-cancer potential of these compounds has been also tested against different tumor cell lines. The cytotoxicity of the ligand and of compounds 2 and 3 were assayed in three cell lines: HT29, colon cancer cells, Hep-G2, hepatoma cells and B16-F10 melanoma cells. The best results have been achieved with compound 2 in HepG2 and B16-F10 cell lines, being between 1.5 and 2 times more effective that the ligand in HepG2 cells, and B16-F10 cells. All in all, indazole-3-carboxylic acid is a promising ligand for the formation of coordination compounds with biochemical properties.

Synthesis, Structures, Electrochemistry, and Catalytic Activity towards Cyclohexanol Oxidation of Mono-, Di-, and Polynuclear Iron(III) Complexes with 3-Amino-2-Pyrazinecarboxylate. Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a set of iron(III) complexes, viz. the mononuclear [Fe(L)3] (1) and [NHEt3][Fe(L)2(Cl)2] (2), the dinuclear methoxido-bridged [Fe(L)2(μ-OMe)]2.DMF.1.5MeOH (3), and the heteronuclear Fe(III)/Na(I) two-dimensional coordination polymer [Fe(N3)(μ-L)2(μ-O)1/2(Na)(μ-H2O)1/2]n (4), are reported. Reactions of 3-amino-2-pyrazinecarboxylic acid (HL) with iron(III) chloride under different reaction conditions were studied, and the obtained compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compound 1 is a neutral mononuclear complex, whereas 2 is mono-anionic with its charge being neutralized by triethylammonium cation. Compounds 3 and 4 display a di-methoxido-bridged dinuclear complex and a two-dimensional heterometallic Fe(III)/Na(I) polynuclear coordination polymer, respectively. Compounds 3 and 4 are the first examples of methoxido- and oxido-bridged iron(III) complexes, respectively, with 3-amino-2-pyrazinecarboxylate ligands. The electrochemical study of these compounds reveals a facile single-electron reversible Fe(III)-to-Fe(II) reduction at a positive potential of 0.08V vs. saturated calomel electrode (SCE), which is in line with their ability to act as efficient oxidants and heterogeneous catalysts for the solvent-free microwave-assisted peroxidative oxidation (with tert-butyl hydroperoxide) of cyclohexanol to cyclohexanone (almost quantitative yields after 1 h). Moreover, the catalysts are easily recovered and reused for five consecutive cycles, maintaining a high activity and selectivity.

Abstract
Six new copper(ii) complexes with 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (4'-Rn-terpy) [1 (R1 = furan-2-yl), 2 (R2 = thiophen-2-yl), and 3 (R3 = 1-methyl-1H-pyrrol-2-yl)] and 2,6-di(thiazol-2-yl)pyridine derivatives (Rn-dtpy) [4 (R1), 5 (R2), and 6 (R3)] have been synthesized by a reaction between copper(ii) chloride and the corresponding ligand. The complexes have been characterized by UV-vis and IR spectroscopy, and their structures have been determined by X-ray analysis. The antiproliferative potential of copper(ii) complexes of 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine and 2,6-di(thiazol-2-yl)pyridine derivatives towards human colorectal (HCT116) and ovarian (A2780) carcinoma as well as towards lung (A549) and breast adenocarcinoma (MCF7) cell lines was examined. Complex 1 and complex 6 were found to have the highest antiproliferative effect on A2780 ovarian carcinoma cells, particularly when compared with complex 2, 3 with no antiproliferative effect. The order of cytotoxicity in this cell line is 6 > 1 > 5 > 4 > 2 ≈ 3. Complex 2 seems to be much more specific towards colorectal carcinoma HCT116 and lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells. The viability loss induced by the complexes agrees with Hoechst 33258 staining and typical morphological apoptotic characteristics like chromatin condensation and nuclear fragmentation. The specificity towards different types of cell lines and the low cytotoxic activity towards healthy cells are of particular interest and are a positive feature for further developments. Complexes 1-6 were also tested in the oxidation of alkanes and alcohols with hydrogen peroxide and tert-butyl-hydroperoxide (TBHP). The most active catalyst 4 gave, after 120 min, 0.105 M of cyclohexanol + cyclohexanone after reduction with PPh3. This concentration corresponds to a yield of 23% and TON = 210. Oxidation of cis-1,2-dimethylcyclohexane with m-CPBA catalyzed by 4 in the presence of HNO3 gave a product of a stereoselective reaction (trans/cis = 0.47). Oxidation of secondary alcohols afforded the target ketones in yields up to 98% and TON = 630.
