Excited state evolution towards ligand loss and ligand chelation at group 6 metal carbonyl centres

Studies on the Interaction of Poly(phenylene methylene) with Silver(I) and Hexacarbonylchromium(0)

Complexes of poly(phenylene methylene) (PPM) with silver(I) ions and tricarbonylchromium(0) moieties, respectively, were synthesized. ¹³C NMR spectra indicate interaction of phenylene groups with silver(I) and chromium(0), and peak broadening implies dynamic behavior of the silver(I) complexes, with all phenylene groups temporarily involved in coordination, in contrast to the chromium complexes. About 5–10% of the phenylene groups are coordinated to metal atoms. ¹H NMR and IR spectra, in the case of chromium(0), and the solubility of silver salts in the presence of PPM provide further evidence of coordination. The complexes are soluble in chloroform, but the silver complexes decay in tetrahydrofuran (second-order kinetics were observed in an example). The photoluminescence (fluorescence) of PPM is maintained upon complexation, although coordination of silver(I) seems to favor the so-called blue phase of PPM relative to the green phase by a factor of approximately two in PL spectra. The pronounced absorption of the tricarbonylchromium(0) units interferes with the blue phase, which almost disappears at a concentration of 50 mg/mL in PLE spectra, whereas the emission maximum of the green phase is hardly affected. This leads to a confinement of the emitted wavelength range of PPM. Thus, the perceived optical emission of PPM can be modified by coordinated entities.

Mechanism of action of the curcumin cis-diammineplatinum(ii) complex as a photocytotoxic agent

Computational studies of metal carbonyl complexes of 3[4-ethyl(phenly)imino][indoline-2-one] and 3[4-butyl(phenly)imino][indoline-2-one]

Use and application of Schiff bases are extended to many different fields of technology. (ISE)M(CO)₅ complex [M = Cr (1), Mo (2), W (3), and where ISE is 3[4-ethyl(phenly)imino][indoline-2-one]; and (ISB)M(CO)₅ [M = Cr (4), Mo (5), W (6)], where ISB is 3[4-butly(phenly)imino][indoline-2-one] were investigated by computational methods. Computations were carried out using density functional theory (DFT) with B3LYP and CAM-B3LYP functionals, in conjunction with LanL2DZ basis set for metals and cc-PVTZ basis set for other atoms. Time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) was used at the same level to obtain the electronic transitions. Molecular orbital energies, UV-Vis spectra, and total electron densities of investigated molecules were shown in the gas phase and in THF. Metal complexes showed higher absorption coefficients compared to ISE and ISB in the visible region. Additionally, they displayed absorption peaks at longer wavelengths and full MLCT character in solution, and W complexes required less energy compared to the complexes of other investigated metal ions. Among the investigated systems, (ISE)W(CO)₅ and (ISB)W(CO)₅ complexes with lowest HOMO-LUMO gaps are found to be the best candidates for photosensitive material production. An investigation into the photochemistry of, and the electrochemically induced CO-loss from, [(CO)5MC(OMe)Me](M = Cr or W) using low-temperature matrix isolation, picosecond infrared spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and time-dependent density functional theory

The photophysics and photochemistry of [(CO)5MC(OMe)Me] (M = Cr or W) were investigated using picosecond time-resolved infrared spectroscopy (M = Cr or W), low-temperature matrix isolation techniques (M = Cr), and time-dependent density functional calculations (M = Cr or W). These studies provide unambiguous evidence for the photochemical formation of a long-lived, 18-electron metallaketene species capable of acting as a synthetically useful intermediate. For the Cr complex, an intermediate metallacyclopropanone singlet excited state was detected on the reaction path to the metallaketene species. This metallacyclopropanone excited state species has a lifetime of less than 100 ps and a characteristic bridging carbonyl band at 1770 cm(-1). The tungsten ketene species was also detected but in contrast to the chromium system, this forms directly from a low-lying triplet excited state. The electrochemical release of CO showed a greater efficiency for the chromium complex when compared to the tungsten.
