Abstract
As the global quest for sustainable energy keeps rising, exploring novel efficient and practical photocatalysts remains a research and industrial urge. Particularly, metal organic frameworks were proven to contribute to various stages of the carbon cycle, from CO2 capture to its conversion. Herein, we report the photo-methanation activity of three isostructural, nickel-based metal organic frameworks incorporating additional niobium, iron, and aluminum sites, having demonstrated exceptional CO2 capture abilities from thin air in previous reports. The niobium version exhibits the highest performance, with a CO2 to CH4 conversion rate in the order of 750-7500 µmol*gcatalyst-1*h-1 between 180 °C and 240 °C, achieving 97% selectivity under light irradiation and atmospheric pressure. The in-depth characterization of this framework before and after catalysis reveals the occurrence of an in-situ restructuring process, whereas active surface species are formed under photocatalytic conditions, thus providing comprehensive structure-performance correlations for the development of efficient CO2 conversion photocatalysts.

Abstract
Metal ions carry out a wide variety of functions, including acid-base/redox catalysis, structural functions, signaling, and electron transport. Understanding the interactions of transition metal complexes with biomacromolecules is essential for biology, medicinal chemistry, and the production of synthetic metalloenzymes. After the coincidental discovery of cisplatin, importance of the metal complexes in biochemistry became a top priority for inquiry. In this review, a decade update on various synthetic strategies to first row transition metal complex and their interaction with DNA through non-covalent binding are explored. Moreover, this effort provides an excellent analysis on the efficacy of theoretical and practical approaches to the systematic generation of new non-platinum based metallodrugs for anti-cancer therapeutics.

Abstract
The catecholase activities were routinely modeled using transition metal complexes as catalyst and in some case basic pH were used as a reaction condition. In this article, the catalytic aerobic oxidation of proxy substrate 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol (DTBC) in methanol using triethylamine/diethylamine as catalyst was demonstrated as a functional mimic of catecholase activity. The kinetic manifestation of DTBC oxidation was explained as enzymatic substrate inhibition pattern in Michaelis-Menten kinetic model. The mechanistic insight of the aerobic oxidation of DTBC was further validated using various spectroscopic techniques and DFT methods.

Abstract
Visible-light driven photoreactions using transition metal complexes as catalysts are currently a research hotspot in developing environmentally friendly sustainable processes. To develop a potential copper-based photocatalyst, a binuclear Cu(II) complex has been synthesized using a Mannich base ligand viz. 2,4-dichloro-6-((4-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazin-1-yl)methyl)phenol (H2L). The photocatalyst has been characterized using ESI-MS and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Under the irradiation of visible light, the catalyst can catalyze hydrogen auto-transfer in N-alkylated amine formation and benzyl alcohol oxidation reactions with excellent conversion. A plausible mechanistic pathway for catalytic reactions has been explored through ESI-MS spectrometric, UV-Vis spectroscopic and computational studies.

Abstract
A square-planar Cu(II) complex [Cu(L)Cl], 1, with sterically constrained tridentate phenol-based ligand (HL= N,N,N′-trimethyl-N′-(2-hydroxy-3,5-di-tert-butylbenzyl)-ethylenediamine) with N, N, O donor sites has been synthesized. The complex is characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction study as well as other spectroscopic techniques. The reported complex crystallizes in monoclinic space group C2/c with a = 30.248(6), b = 13.750(3) and c = 11.410(2) Å with β = 110.232(2)°. The Cu(II) ion adopts a square planar environment in this complex. Electrochemical study of the complex 1 gives quasi-reversible reductive response at E1/2 ≈ −0.5 V due to the reduction of the Cu(II) center along with a reversible oxidation peak at E1/2 ≈ 0.75 V. The oxidation peak arises due to the ligand-based oxidation of phenolate group to phenoxyl radical in the complex. The Cu(II) complex exhibits catechol oxidase activity in methanol as observed by the UV–vis spectroscopy of the aerial oxidation of 3,5-DTBC to 3,5-DTBQ and the reaction proceeds via the formation of ligand phenoxyl radical. The turnover number for complex 1 is 2560 h−1.

Abstract
Three ONNO donor tetradentate diamino bis(phenolato) "salan" ligands, N, N'-dimethyl-N, N'-bis-(5-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-methyl-benzyl)-1,2-diaminoethane (H2L1), N, N'-dimethyl-N, N'-bis-(5-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-isopropyl-6-methyl-benzyl)-1,2-diamino-ethane (H2L2) and N, N'-bis-(5-chloro-2-hydroxy-3-isopropyl-6-methyl-benzyl)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (H2L3) have been synthesized by following Mannich condensation reaction. Reaction of these ligands with their corresponding vanadium metal precursors gave one oxidomethoxidovanadium(V) [VVOL1(OCH3)] (1) and two monooxido-bridged divanadium (V, V) complexes [VVOL2-3]2(μ-O) (2-3). The complexes were characterized by IR, UV-vis, NMR and ESI mass spectrometry. Also, the structure of all the complexes (1-3) was confirmed by the Single-Crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, which revealed a distorted octahedral geometry around the metal centres. The solution behavior of the [VVOL1(OCH3)] (1) reveals the formation of two different types of V(V) species in solution, the structurally characterized compound 1 and its corresponding monooxido-bridged divanadium (V, V) complex [VVOL1]2(μ-O), which was further studied by IR, and NMR spectroscopy. The electrochemical behavior of all the complexes was evaluated through cyclic voltammetry. Interaction of the salan-V(V) complexes with human serum albumin (HSA) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were analysed through fluorescence quenching, UV-vis absorption titration, synchronous fluorescence, circular dichroism studies, and förster resonance energy transfer (FRET). Finally, the in vitro cytotoxicity of the complexes was investigated against MCF-7 and HT-29 and NIH-3T3 cell lines. Cytotoxicity value of complexes in both MCF-7 and HT-29 follows the same trend that is 3 > 1 > 2 which is in line with protein binding affinity of the complexes.

Abstract
A new, facile Cu(ii) template method has been employed for the unsymmetrical dicondensation of 1,2-ethylenediamine with salicylaldehyde and o-vanillin. The mononuclear complex, [CuL] (1), thus obtained, has been used as an O3 donor metalloligand for the synthesis of four new Cu(ii)-Mn(ii) complexes, [(CuL)MnCl2] (2), [(CuL)Mn(NO3)2(CH3OH)]n (3), {[(CuL)Mn(benz)(H2O)]2·(CuL)2(ClO4)2} (4) and [(CuL)Mn(benz)Cl]2 (5) (where benz = benzoate). Single-crystal structural analyses reveal that 2 is a dinuclear complex while complex 3 is polymeric with a repeating dinuclear [(CuL)Mn(NO3)2(CH3OH)] unit, linked via the nitrate ion. Both 4 and 5 are discrete tetranuclear complexes, where the dinuclear units [(CuL)Mn(benz)(H2O)] and [(CuL)Mn(benz)Cl] are connected by double benzoate and double chloride bridges, respectively. In complex 4, two monomeric [CuL] units are cocrystallized with the tetranuclear complex. An important difference in the structure of 4 from the other three complexes is that one solvent water molecule is coordinated to each Mn(ii) ion, which makes complex 4 catalytically very active towards mimicking catecholase and phenoxazinone synthase-like oxidation reactions. The turnover numbers (kcat) for the aerial oxidation of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol and o-aminophenol are 399 h-1 and 230 h-1, respectively. The evidence of the intermediate species in the mass spectra indicates possible heterometallic cooperation where the Mn(ii) center helps in substrate binding and Cu(ii) participates in the oxidation reactions with molecular oxygen. Cyclic voltammetry measurements suggest the reduction of Cu(ii) to Cu(i) during the catalytic process. Temperature-dependent dc molar magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that complexes 2-5 are antiferromagnetically coupled with the exchange coupling constants (J) of J = -13.5 cm-1 and J = -13.5 cm-1 for 2 and 3, respectively, J1 = -12.6 cm-1 and J2 = -1.20 cm-1 for complex 4 and J1 = -13.24 cm-1 and J2 = 0.36 cm-1 for complex 5 as is expected from the Cu-O-Mn bridging angles.

Abstract
Four mononuclear bioefficient imine-based coordination complexes, [(L 1 ) 2 Cu], [(L 1 ) 2 Zn], [(L 2 )Cu(H 2 O)], and [(L 2 )Zn(H 2 O)], were synthesized using ligands [L 1 = 2-(((3-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)methylene)amino)-2-methylpropane-1,3-diol and L 2 = 4-(1-((1,3-dihydroxy-2-methylpropan-2-yl)imino)ethyl)benzene-1,3-diol]. The formation of the complexes was ascertained by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, electrospray ionization-mass spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and thermogravimetric analysis. The comparative binding propensity profiles of the above-synthesized complexes with the DNA/human serum albumin (HSA) were investigated via UV absorption, fluorescence, and Förster resonance energy-transfer studies. On the basis of extended conjugation and planarity, L 1 complexes exhibited superior bioactivity with greater calculated DNA binding constant values, (K b) 2.9444 × 103 [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] and 2.2693 × 103 [(L 1 ) 2 Zn], as compared to L 2 complexes, 1.793 × 103 [(L 2 )Cu(H 2 O)] and 9.801 × 102 [(L 2 )Zn(H 2 O)]. The competitive displacement assay of complexes was performed by means of fluorogenic dyes (EtBr and Hoechst), which corroborates the occurrence of minor groove binding because of the enhanced displacement activity with Hoechst 33258. The minor groove binding of the [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] complex is further confirmed by the molecular docking study. Moreover, the HSA study demonstrated effective static quenching of complexes with substantial K sv values. The [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] complex was found to have pronounced cleavage efficiency as evaluated from sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis electrophoresis. Furthermore, in vitro antioxidant activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide radicals further proclaimed the remarkable bioefficiency of compounds, which make them promising as active chemotherapeutic agents.

Abstract
Two new nickel (II) triphenylphosphine complexes derived from tridentate aroylhydrazone ligands [H2L1 = 2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)benzohydrazone and H2L2 = N'-(2-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)-2-hydroxybenzoylhydrazone] and triphenylphosphine were prepared and their molecular structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Both nickel(II) complexes showed slightly distorted square planar geometry with one tridentate aroylhydrazone ligand coordinated through ONO donor atoms and one triphenylphosphine ligand coordinated to the nickel center through the phosphorus atom. DNA interaction studies indicated that both complexes possessed higher affinity to herring sperm DNA (HS-DNA) than the corresponding free aroylhydrazone ligand. Molecular docking investigations showed that both complexes could bind to DNA through intercalation of the phenyl rings between adjacent base pairs in the double helix. Meanwhile, bovine serum albumin (BSA) binding studies revealed the complexes could effectively interact with BSA and change the secondary structure of BSA. Further pharmacological evaluations of the synthesized complexes by in vitro antioxidant assays demonstrated high antioxidant activity against NO· and O2˙- radicals. The anticancer activity of each complex was assessed through in vitro cytotoxicity assays (CCK-8 kit) toward A549 and MCF-7 cancer cell and normal L-02 cell lines. Significantly, the Ni(II) complex derived from H2L1 ligand was found to be more effective cytotoxic toward MCF-7cancerous cell with the IC50 value equaled 9.7 μM, which showed potent cytotoxic activity over standard drug cisplatin.

Abstract
Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of four new aroyl-hydrazone derivatives L1 -L4 , and their structural as well as biological activities have been explored. In addition to docking with bovine serum albumin (BSA) and duplex DNA, the experimental results demonstrate the effective binding of L1 -L4 with BSA protein and calf thymus DNA (ct-DNA) which is in agreement with the docking results. Further biological activities of L1 -L4 have been examined through molecular docking with different proteins which are involved in the propagation of viral or cancer diseases. L1 shows best binding affinity with influenza A virus polymerase PB2 subunit (2VY7) with binding energy -11.42 kcal/mol and inhibition constant 4.23 nm, whereas L2 strongly bind with the hepatitis C virus NS5B polymerase (2WCX) with binding energy -10.47 kcal/mol and inhibition constant 21.06 nm. Ligand L3 binds strongly with TGF-beta receptor 1 (3FAA) and L4 with cancer-related EphA2 protein kinases (1MQB) with binding energy -10.61 kcal/mol, -10.02 kcal/mol and inhibition constant 16.67 nm and 45.41 nm, respectively. The binding energies of L1 -L4 are comparable with binding energies of their proven inhibitors. L1 , L3 and L4 can be considered as both 3FAA and 1MQB dual targeting anticancer agents, while L1 and L3 are both 2VY7 and 2WCX dual targeting antiviral agents. On the other side, L2 and L4 target only one virus related target (2WCX). Furthermore, the geometry optimizations of L1 -L4 were performed via density functional theory (DFT). Moreover, all four ligands (L1 -L4 ) were characterized by NMR, FT-IR, ESI-MS, elemental analysis and their molecular structures were validated by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies.

Abstract
The molecular and QSAR (Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship) properties of title compound 2-((6-Methoxybenzo[d]thiazol-2-ylimino)methyl)-6-ethoxyphenol (HL) were evaluated employing HyperChem 7.5 tools. The interaction of the 1a-1e complexes of HL with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA) was investigated by absorption titrations, Fluorescence quenching and viscosity measurements. The experimental data suggest that these complexes bind to CT-DNA through an intercalative mode, wherein DNA-binding affinity of 1e is found to be greater compared to other complexes. The tryptophan emission-quenching with bovine serum albumin (BSA) experiment revealed stronger binding of 1e than other complexes in the hydrophobic region of protein. The photocleavage of plasmid pBR322 DNA investigated in the presence of the title complexes inferred conversion of supercoiled form of DNA plasmid to circular nicked form. Free-radical scavenging activity studies of HL and its metal complexes determined by their interaction with the stable free-radical DPPH have shown promising antioxidant property. Further cytotoxicity studies with HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines indicated that the compounds can efficiently inhibit the cell proliferation in a dose dependent manner. The DAPI staining assay studies revealed the higher potency of 1e to induce apoptosis. Abstract
A series of eight hexacoordinated mixed-ligand oxidovanadium(IV) complexes [VO(Lx)(LN-N)] (1-8), where Lx = L1 - L4 are four differently substituted ONO donor aroylhydrazone ligands and LN-N are N,N-donor bases like 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) (1, 3, 5 and 7) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) (2, 4, 6 and 8), have been reported. All synthesized complexes have been characterized by various physicochemical techniques and molecular structures of 1 and 6 were determined by X-ray crystallography. With a view to evaluate the biological activity of the VIVO species, the behavior of the systems VIVO2+/Lx, VIVO2+/Lx/bipy and VIVO2+/Lx/phen was studied as a function of pH in a mixture of H2O/DMSO 50/50 (v/v). DFT calculations allowed finding out the relative stability of the tautomeric forms of the ligands, and predicting the structure of vanadium complexes and their EPR parameters. To study their interaction with proteins, firstly the ternary systems VIVO2+/L1,2 with 1-methylimidazole, which is a good model for histidine binding, were examined. Subsequently the interaction of the complexes with lysozyme (Lyz), cytochrome c (Cyt) and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was studied. The results indicate that the complexes showed moderate binding affinity towards BSA, while no interaction takes place with lysozyme and cytochrome c. This could be explained with the higher number of accessible coordinating and polar residues for BSA than for Lyz and Cyt. Further, the complexes were also evaluated for their DNA binding propensity through UV-vis absorption titration and fluorescence spectral studies. These results were consistent with BSA binding affinity and showed moderate binding affinity towards CT-DNA.

Abstract
Environmental pollutants, including antibiotics (ATBs), have become an increasingly common health hazard in the last several decades. Overdose and abuse of ATBs led to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs), which represent a serious health threat. Moreover, water bodies and reservoirs are places where a wide range of bacterial species with ARGs originate, owing to the strong selective pressure from presence of ATB residues. In this regard, graphene oxide (GO) has been utilised in several fields including remediation of the environment. In this review, we present a brief overview of resistant genes of frequently used ATBs, their occurrence in the environment and their behaviour. Further, we discussed the factors influencing the binding of nucleic acids and the response of ARGs to GO, including the presence of salts in the water environment or water pH, because of intrinsic properties of GO of not only binding to nucleic acids but also catalysing their decomposition. This would be helpful in designing new types of water treatment facilities.

Abstract
Galactose Oxidase (GOase) and catechol oxidase (COase) are the metalloenzymes of copper having monomeric and dimeric sites of coordination, respectively. This paper summarizes the results of our studies on the structural, spectral and catalytic properties of new mononuclear copper (II) complexes [CuL(OAc)] (1), and [CuL2] (2), (HL = 2,4‑dichloro‑6‑{[(2'‑dimethyl‑aminoethyl)methylamino]methyl}‑phenol) which can mimic the functionalities of the metalloenzymes GOase and COase. The structure of the compounds has been elucidated by X-ray crystallography and the mimicked Cu(II) catalysts were further characterized by EPR. These mimicked models were used for GOase and COase catalysis. The GOase catalytic results were identified by GC-MS and, analyzed by HPLC at room temperature. The conversion of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde were significant in presence of a strong base, Bu4NOMe in comparison to the neutral medium. Apart from that, despite of being monomeric in nature, both the homogeneous catalysts are very prone to participate in COase mimicking oxidation reaction. Nevertheless, during COase catalysis, complex 1 was found to convert 3,5‑ditertarybutyl catechol (3,5-DTBC) to 3,5‑ditertarybutyl quinone (3,5-DTBQ) having greater rate constant, kcat or turn over number (TON) value over complex 2. The generation of reactive intermediates during COase catalysis were accounted by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Through mechanistic approach, we found that H2O2 is the byproduct for both the GOase and COase catalysis, thus, confirming the generation of reactive oxygen species during catalysis. Notably, complex 1 having mono-ligand coordinating atmosphere has superior catalytic activity for both cases in comparison to complex 2, that is having di-ligand environment.

Abstract
Two novel copper (II) substituted thiosemicarbazone Schiff base complexes [Cu(L1)(µ-SCN)]n(NO3)2 (1) and [Cu2(µ-SCN)(SCN)(L2)2](NO3) (2) have been synthesized by condensing substituted thiosemicarbazides like 4-methyl-3-thiosemicarbazide or 4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazide with 2-acetylpyridine. Both the metal complexes 1 and 2 are characterized using different spectroscopic techniques like IR, UV-Vis, ESR spectroscopy followed by elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetric measurement and single crystal X-ray structure analysis. X-ray crystal structure analysis reveal that complex 1 is polymeric while complex 2 is dimeric in nature. The coordination geometry around Cu(II) are square pyramidal in which thiosemicarbazone Schiff base ligand coordinate to the central Cu(II) atom in tridentate fashion. The prominent interaction patterns of 1 and 2 with CT-DNA were examined by employing electronic absorption and emission spectral titrations, cyclic voltammetry and viscosity measurements. All the results show that CT-DNA binds with both copper (II) complexes 1 and 2. Furthermore, protein binding ability in vitro of complexes 1 and 2 with both BSA and HSA were carried out using multispectroscopic techniques and a static quenching pattern was observed in both cases. Molecular docking study was employed to ascertain the exact mechanism of action of 1 and 2 with DNA and protein molecules (BSA and HSA). In vitro cytotoxicity activity of complexes 1 and 2 toward AGS and A549 was evaluated using MTT assay which demonstrates that both complexes 1 and 2 have superior prospectus to act as anticancer agents.
