Abstract
The current study reported a facile co-precipitation technique for synthesizing novel NiCo2S4/chitosan nanocomposite. The photocatalytic activity of the prepared nanocomposite was evaluated using congo red (CR) dye as a target pollutant. The central composite design was employed to examine the impact of different reaction conditions on CR dye degradation. This study selected the pH, photocatalyst loading, initial CR concentration and reaction time as reaction parameters, while the degradation efficiency (%) was selected as the response. A desirability factor of 1 suggested the adequacy of the model. Maximum degradation of 93.46% of 35 ppm dye solution was observed after 60 min of visible light irradiation. The response to surface methodology (RSM) is a helpful technique to predict the optimum reaction conditions of the photodegradation of CR dye. Moreover, NiCo2S4/Ch displayed high recyclability and reusability up to four consecutive cycles. The present study suggests that the prepared NiCo2S4/chitosan nanocomposite could prove to be a viable photocatalyst for the treatment of dye-contaminated wastewater.

Abstract
Graphene-based nanocomposites with inorganic (metal and metal oxide) nanoparticles leads to materials with high catalytic activity for a variety of chemical transformations. Graphene and its derivatives such as graphene oxide, highly reduced graphene oxide, or nitrogen-doped graphene are excellent support materials due to their high surface area, their extended π-system, and variable functionalities for effective chemical interactions to fabricate nanocomposites. The ability to fine-tune the surface composition for desired functionalities enhances the versatility of graphene-based nanocomposites in catalysis. This review summarizes the preparation of graphene/inorganic NPs based nanocomposites and their use in catalytic applications. We discuss the large-scale synthesis of graphene-based nanomaterials. We have also highlighted the interfacial electronic communication between graphene/inorganic nanoparticles and other factors resulting in increased catalytic efficiencies.

Abstract
A simple and fast method for preparing MXene hydrogels is proposed by introducing protonated thionine molecules into a MXene dispersion through electrostatic interaction. Such a 3D hydrogel effectively suppressed restacking and oxidation, and enlarged the surface utilization of the MXene, producing an improved specific capacitance of 163 F g-1 at 1 A g-1 and excellent stability when used as an electrode material for supercapacitors.

Abstract
Ultrathin two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor-mediated photocatalysts have shown their compelling potential and have arguably received tremendous attention in photocatalysis because of their superior thickness-dependent physical, chemical, mechanical and optical properties. Although numerous comprehensions about 2D semiconductor photocatalysts have been amassed up to now, low cost efficiency, degradation, kinetics of charge transfer along with recycling are still the big challenges to realize a wide application of 2D semiconductor-based photocatalysis. At present, most photocatalysts still need rare or expensive noble metals to improve the photocatalytic activity, which inhibits their commercial-scale application extremely. Thus, developing less costly, earth-abundant semiconductor-based photocatalysts with efficient conversion of sunlight energy remains the primary challenge. In this review, it begins with a brief description of the general mechanism of overall photocatalytic water splitting. Then a concise overview of different types of 2D semiconductor-mediated photocatalysts is given to figure out the advantages and disadvantages for mentioned semiconductor-based photocatalysis, including the structural property and stability, synthesize method, electrochemical property and optical properties for H2/O2 production half reaction along with overall water splitting. Finally, we conclude this review with a perspective, marked on some remaining challenges and new directions of 2D semiconductor-mediated photocatalysts.

Abstract
Skutterudite CoP3 holds a unique structural formation that exhibits much better electronic properties for obtaining high energy density supercapacitors. Herein, novel skutterudite Ni-CoP3 nanosheets are constructed by etching and coprecipitating at room temperature and subsequent low-temperature phosphorization reaction. Benefiting from the enhanced electrical conductivity and more electroactive sites brought about by adjusting the electronic structure with Ni incorporating the Ni-CoP3 electrode with a battery-type demonstrates an ultrahigh specific capacity of 0.7 mA h cm-2 and exceptional cycling stability. The asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device fabricated by employing Ni-CoP3 and activated carbon (AC) as positive and negative electrodes, resepectively, exhibits a remarkable high energy density of 89.6 Wh kg-1 at 796 W kg-1 and excellent stability of 93% after 10 000 cycles, due to the skutterudite structure. The skutterudite Ni-CoP3 shows a great potential to be an excellent next-generation electrode candidate for supercapacitors and other energy storage devices.

Abstract
Dual-functional NiCo2S4 polyhedral architectures with outstanding electrochemical performance for supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have been rationally designed and successfully synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The as-synthesized NiCo2S4 electrode for supercapacitor exhibits an outstanding specific capacitance of 1298Fg-1 at 1Ag-1 and an excellent rate capability of ~80.4% at 20Ag-1. Besides, capacitance retention of 90.44% is realized after 8000 cycles. In addition, the NiCo2S4 as anode in LIBs delivers high initial charge/discharge capacities of 807.6 and 972.8mAhg-1 at 0.5C as well as good rate capability. In view of these points, this work provides a feasible pathway for assembling electrodes and devices with excellent electrochemical properties in the next generation energy storage applications.

Abstract
Supercapacitors, based on fast ion transportation, are among the most promising energy storage solutions that can deliver fast charging-discharging within seconds and exhibit excellent cycling stability. The development of a good electrode material is one of the key factors in enhancing supercapacitor performance. Graphene (G), an allotrope of carbon that consists of a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice, elicits research attention among scientists in the field of energy storage due to its remarkable properties, such as outstanding electrical conductivity, good chemical stability, and excellent mechanical behavior. Furthermore, numerous studies focus on 2D materials that are analogous to graphene as electrode supercapacitors, including transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). Recently, scientists and researchers are exploring TMDs because of the distinct features that make 2D TMDs highly attractive for capacitive energy storage. This study provides an overview of the structure, properties, synthesis methods, and electrochemical performance of G/TMD supercapacitors. Furthermore, the combination of G and TMDs to develop a hybrid structure may increase their energy density by introducing an asymmetric supercapacitor system. We will also discuss the future prospect of this system in the energy field.

Abstract
Nanosheets of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDs), the graphene-like two-dimensional (2D) materials, exhibit a unique combination of properties and have attracted enormous research interest for a wide range of applications including catalysis, functional electronics, solid lubrication, photovoltaics, energy materials and most recently in biomedical applications. Their potential for use in biosensors, drug delivery, multimodal imaging, antimicrobial agents and tissue engineering is being actively studied. However, the commercial translation of exfoliated TMDs has been limited due to the low aqueous solubility, non-uniformity, lack of control over the layer thickness, and the long-term colloidal stability of the exfoliated material. There is wide interest in the synthesis and exfoliation of TMDs resulting in the reporting of increasing numbers of new methods and their biomedical applications. The unique physicochemical characteristics of the TMD nanosheets have been exploited to tether them with biological payload to achieve selective localized delivery in vivo. The large surface-to-volume ratio, good cytocompatibility, ease of surface modification, tunable bandgap, strong spin-orbit coupling, and high optical and thermal conversion efficiency of TMD nanosheets make them favorable over traditional nanomaterials for biomedical research. Moreover, the presence of abundant active edge sites on the 2D TMDs makes them suitable for catalytic activities, while the large surface area and the interspace between layers are particularly conducive to ion or small molecule intercalation, making them useful for energy storage applications with rapid redox reaction capabilities. One of the major limitations of the exfoliated TMDs has been their limited colloidal stability in aqueous media. In this review, we summarize the recent advances in the exfoliation and synthesis of single-layered TMDs, their biomedical efficacy in terms of cytotoxicity, combinatorial therapy and diagnostic imaging, as well as antimicrobial activity. We highlight the current challenges in the field and propose strategies for the future.

Abstract
Honeycomb-like nickel cobalt sulfide (NiCo2S4) nanosheets were directly deposited on fluorine-doped tin oxide substrate by a rapid voltammetric deposition method. The method was also controllable and feasible for preparing NiCo2S4 on flexible Ti foil without any heating processes. Compared with Pt, CoS and NiS, NiCo2S4 exhibited low charge-transfer resistances and excellent electrocatalytic activity for [Formula: see text] reduction, acting as a counter electrode for a dye-sensitized solar cell. The NiCo2S4-based solar cell showed higher power conversion efficiency (7.44%) than that of Pt-based solar cell (7.09%) under simulated illumination (AM 1.5 G, 100 mW cm-2). The device based on the flexible NiCo2S4/Ti foil achieved a power conversion efficiency of 5.28% under the above illumination conditions. This work can be extended to flexible and wearable technologies due to its facile technique.

Abstract
Ternary cobalt nickel sulfide as a novel and efficient electrode material in supercapacitors has recently gained extensive interests. Herein, we first report a highly conductive caterpillar-like NiCo2S4, composed of NiCo2S4 nanosheet core and nanowire shell grown on Ni foam via a facile and cost-effective chemical liquid process. Growth mechanism of the NiCo2S4 nanosheets@nanowires (NSNWs) structure was also investigated in detail by analyzing time-dependent experimental as well as the amount of additive ammonium fluoride in solution. Furthermore, the electrochemical measurements were performed among three different morphologies of NiCo2S4 including nanosheets, nanosheets@nanoparticles, and NSNWs structure, which were obtained from different reaction stages. Because the NSNWs structure has relatively high electroactive surface area, conductivity, and effective electron transport pathways, the as-prepared NiCo2S4 NSNWs structure comparing with two other morphologies exhibits the maximum specific capacity of 1777 F/g at 1 A/g and the highest capacitance retention (83% after 3000 cycles) at a high scan rate of 10 A/g with a mass loading density of 4.0 mg/cm2. These results indicate that the NiCo2S4 NSNWs structure has great potential in supercapacitors.

Abstract
Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are emerging as promising materials, particularly for electrochemical and photochemical catalytic applications, and among them molybdenum sulfides have received tremendous attention due to their novel electronic and optoelectronic characteristics. Several review articles have summarized the recent progress on TMDs but no critical and systematic summary exists about the nanoscale fabrication of MoS2 with different dimensional morphologies. In this review article, first we will summarize the recent progress on the morphological tuning and structural evolution of MoS2 from zero-dimension (0D) to 3D. Then the different engineering methods and the effect of synthesis conditions on structure and morphology of MoS2 will be discussed. Moreover, the corresponding change in the electronic and physicochemical properties of MoS2 induced by structure tuning will also be presented. Further, the applications of MoS2 in various electrochemical systems e.g. hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and supercapacitors as well as photocatalytic hydrogen evolution will be highlighted. The review article will also critically focus on challenges faced by researchers to tune the MoS2 nanostructures and the resulting electrochemical mechanism to enhance their performances. At the end, concluding remarks and future prospects for the development of better MoS2 based nanostructured materials for the aforementioned applications will be presented.
