Preparation of injectable hydrogel with near-infrared light response and photo-controlled drug release

Photo-controlled release hydrogel provides a new strategy for treating tumours. Under the stimulation of external light sources, the ability to release the entrapped drug on time and space on demand has outstanding advantages in improving drug utilisation, optimising treatment, and reducing toxicity and side effects. In this study, a photo-controlled drug delivery system for disulphide cross-linked polyaspartic acid (PASP-SS) hydrogels encapsulating proteinase K (ProK) adsorbed with platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs) was designed. The injectable cysteamine-modified polyaspartic acid (PASP-SH) sol and PtNPs adsorbed by ProK (ProK-PtNPs) as regulatory factors were prepared. Then, ProK-PtNPs and lentinan were dissolved in the sol, and the oxidant was added to the matrix to form the gel in situ quickly after injection. Finally, the degradation of PASP-SS hydrogel by ProK and the controllability of drug release under near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation were elucidated. In vitro degradation of hydrogels and drug release experiments showed that the degradation rate of PASP-SS hydrogel significantly increased and the drug release rate increased significantly under near-infrared radiation. The results of cytotoxicity test showed that PASP-SS, ProK-PtNPs, and lentinan all had more than 90% cell survival rate on NIH3T3, and the lentinan released from the carrier obviously inhibited the proliferation of MCF7. PASP hydrogel has the potential to respond to on-demand light control.

Employment of ultrasonic irradiation for production of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone)/modified alpha manganese dioxide nanocomposites: Morphology, thermal and optical characterization

This work explains the production, morphology, and features of novel nanocomposite (NC) established on poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as polymer background and modified alpha manganese dioxide (α-MnO₂) nanorod (NR) asan efficient filler. At first, one-dimensional α-MnO₂ nanorods (NRs) were produced by a hydrothermal technique and then they were amended with stearic acid (SA) by a solvothermal process. In following, the NCs were made by adding different volumes of α-MnO₂-SA NR (1, 3 and 5wt%) in the PVP matrix through ultrasonic irradiation as a green, low-cost, fast, and useful technique. Structural and morphological descriptions confirm crystallinity of α-MnO₂-SA NRs and showed that NRs have been separately dispersed in PVP matrix with rod-like morphology and diameter of about 40-60nm. The use of modifier and ultrasonic waves is accountable for good homogeneities of NRs. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that thermal permanency of the obtained NCs has grown with increasing the α-MnO₂-SA content. Also, the UV-vis absorption of NCs was enhanced with the incorporation of the modified α-MnO₂ NR in PVP matrix. The substantial perfections in NCs properties are associated to compatible intermolecular relations between the surface modifying groups of the α-MnO₂-SA and PVP chain.

Controlled Dealloying of Alloy Nanoparticles toward Optimization of Electrocatalysis on Spongy Metallic Nanoframes

Atomic-level understanding of the structural transformations of multimetallic nanoparticles triggered by external stimuli is of vital importance to the enhancement of our capabilities to fine-tailor the key structural parameters and thereby to precisely tune the properties of the nanoparticles. Here, we show that, upon thermal annealing in a reducing atmosphere, Au@Cu2O core-shell nanoparticles transform into Au-Cu alloy nanoparticles with tunable compositional stoichiometries that are predetermined by the relative core and shell dimensions of their parental core-shell nanoparticle precursors. The Au-Cu alloy nanoparticles exhibit distinct dealloying behaviors that are dependent upon their Cu/Au stoichiometric ratios. For Au-Cu alloy nanoparticles with Cu atomic fractions above the parting limit, nanoporosity-evolving percolation dealloying occurs upon exposure of the alloy nanoparticles to appropriate chemical etchants, resulting in the formation of particulate spongy nanoframes with solid/void bicontinuous morphology composed of hierarchically interconnected nanoligaments. The nanoporosity evolution during percolation dealloying is synergistically guided by two intertwining structural rearrangement processes, ligament domain coarsening driven by thermodynamics and framework expansion driven by Kirkendall effects, both of which can be maneuvered by controlling the Cu leaching rates during the percolation dealloying. The dealloyed nanoframes possess large open surface areas accessible by the reactant molecules and high abundance of catalytically active undercoordinated atoms on the ligament surfaces, two unique structural features highly desirable for high-performance electrocatalysis. Using the room temperature electro-oxidation of methanol as a model reaction, we further demonstrate that, through controlled percolation dealloying of Au-Cu alloy nanoparticles, both the electrochemically active surface areas and the specific activity of the dealloyed metallic nanoframes can be systematically tuned to achieve the optimal electrocatalytic activities.
