Abstract
This is the first report for C-Se bond formation involving the reaction of aryl halides with arylboronic acid and selenium powder to synthesis of unsymmetrical diaryl selenides in the presence of CuI as a homogeneous catalyst. A wide range of aryl halides react with various substituted groups under optimal conditions to provide the desired unsymmetrical diaryl selenides with good to high yields. Also, the same reactions were investigated in the presence of M-MCF@Gua-Cu as a reusable magnetic nanocatalyst under optimal conditions. The M-MCF@Gua-Cu catalyst allows for simpler (easy work-up) and greener methodology. In addition, the advantages of the presented method include the use of arylboronic acid/Se as a safe and cost-effective arylselenating system, the simplicity of operation, and green and cheap solvent.

Abstract
31P NMR spectroscopy is a consolidated tool for the characterization of organophosphorus compounds and, more recently, for reaction monitoring. The evolution of organic synthesis, mainly due to the combination of elaborated building blocks with enabling technologies, generated great challenges to understand and to optimize the synthetic methodologies. In this sense, 31P NMR experiments also became a routine technique for reaction monitoring, accessing products and side products yields, chiral recognition, kinetic data, intermediates, as well as basic organic parameters, such as acid-base and hydrogen-bonding. This review deals with these aspects demonstrating the essential role of the 31P NMR spectroscopy. The recent publications (the last ten years) will be explored, discussing the experiments of 31P NMR and the strategies accomplished to detect and/or quantify distinct organophosphorus molecules, approaching reaction mechanism, stability, stereochemistry, and the utility as a probe.

Abstract
Heterocyclic aryl selenides have recently attracted considerable research interest owing to their applications in biological and pharmaceutical fields. Herein, we describe a simple and general synthesis of 3-selanylindoles via a novel regioselective C-H selenation of indoles using a bismuth reagent as a catalyst. The reactions of indoles with diselenides in the presence of 10 mol% BiI3 at 100 °C in DMF afforded the corresponding 3-selanylindoles in moderate-to-excellent yields. The reaction proceeded efficiently under aerobic conditions by adding only a catalytic amount of BiI3, which was non-hygroscopic and less toxic, and both selanyl groups of the diselenide were transferred to the desired products.

Abstract
Organochalcogen compounds are prevalent in numerous natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, polymers, biological molecules and synthetic intermediates. Direct chalcogenation of C-H bonds has evolved as a step- and atom-economical method for the synthesis of chalcogen-bearing compounds. Nevertheless, direct C-H chalcogenation severely lags behind C-C, C-N and C-O bond formations. Moreover, compared with the C-H monochalcogenation, reports of selective mono-/dichalcogenation and exclusive dichalcogenation of C-H bonds are relatively scarce. The past decade has witnessed significant advancements in selective mono-/dichalcogenation and exclusive dichalcogenation of various C(sp2)-H and C(sp3)-H bonds via transition-metal-catalyzed/mediated, photocatalytic, electrochemical or metal-free approaches. In light of the significance of both mono- and dichalcogen-containing compounds in various fields of chemical science and the critical issue of chemoselectivity in organic synthesis, the present review systematically summarizes the advances in these research fields, with a special focus on elucidating scopes and mechanistic aspects. Moreover, the synthetic limitations, applications of some of these processes, the current challenges and our own perspectives on these highly active research fields are also discussed. Based on the substrate types and C-H bonds being chalcogenated, the present review is organized into four sections: (1) transition-metal-catalyzed/mediated chelation-assisted selective C-H mono-/dichalcogenation or exclusive dichalcogenation of (hetero)arenes; (2) directing group-free selective C-H mono-/dichalcogenation or exclusive dichalcogenation of electron-rich (hetero)arenes; (3) C(sp3)-H dichalcogenation; (4) dichalcogenation of both C(sp2)-H and C(sp3)-H bonds. We believe the present review will serve as an invaluable resource for future innovations and drug discovery.

Abstract
Selenium, originally described as a toxin, turns out to be a crucial trace element for life that appears as selenocysteine and its dimer, selenocystine. From the point of view of drug developments, selenium-containing drugs are isosteres of sulfur and oxygen with the advantage that the presence of the selenium atom confers antioxidant properties and high lipophilicity, which would increase cell membrane permeation leading to better oral bioavailability. In this article, we have focused on the relevant features of the selenium atom, above all, the corresponding synthetic approaches to access a variety of organoselenium molecules along with the proposed reaction mechanisms. The preparation and biological properties of selenosugars, including selenoglycosides, selenonucleosides, selenopeptides, and other selenium-containing compounds will be treated. We have attempted to condense the most important aspects and interesting examples of the chemistry of selenium into a single article.

Abstract
In this article, a practical and metal-free method for the synthesis of poly-functionalized 3-selenyl/sulfenyl/telluriumindoles from o-alkynyl arylamines has been achieved. In this protocol, the in situ formation of selenenyl chloride, sulfenyl chloride or tellurenyl chloride is considered as the key intermediate and the 3-selenyl/sulfenyl/telluriumindoles can be obtained in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, the product 2-phenyl-3-(phenylselanyl)-1-tosyl-1H-indole can be selectively oxidized to compounds 2-phenyl-3-(phenylseleninyl)-1-tosyl-1H-indole and 2-phenyl-3-(phenylselenonyl)-1-tosyl-1H-indole in good yields.

Abstract
A simple and efficient method for the regioselective selenation of electron-rich arenes by employing non-metal inorganic iodine pentoxide (I2O5) as a reaction promoter under ambient conditions has been developed. The present protocol showed broad functional group tolerance and easy-to-operate and time-economical features. Additionally, this protocol also allows access to 3-seleno and 3-thiocyanoindoles by the use of readily available selenocyanate and thiocyanate salts. A mechanistic study indicated that the transformation operated through selenenyl iodide-induced electrophilic substitution processes.

Abstract
A novel metal-free one-pot protocol for the synthesis of potential biologically active molecules 3-selenylindoles via intramolecular cyclization/selenylation with simple 2-vinylaniline has been developed with moderate to good yield, thus representing it as a facile route to diverse substitution patterns around the indole core. The reaction proceeded smoothly with a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance. Moreover, the present synthetic route could be readily scaled up to gram quantity without difficulty. Mechanistic studies have revealed that in situ formed selenium electrophile species may be the key intermediate for the selenocyclization process.

Abstract
In this contribution, a metal- and base-free protocol has been developed for the synthesis of phosphorochalcogenoates (Se and Te) by using DMSO as solvent at 50 °C. A variety of phosphorochalcogenoates were prepared from diorganyl dichalcogenides and H-phosphonates, leading to the formation of a Chal-P(O) bond, in a rapid procedure with good to excellent yields. A full structural elucidation of products was accessed by 1D and 2D NMR, IR, CGMS, and HRMS analyses, and a stability evaluation of the phosphorochalcogenoates was performed for an effective operational description of this simple and feasible method. Typical 77Se{1H} (δSe = 866.0 ppm), 125Te{1H} (δTe = 422.0 ppm) and 31P{1H} (δP = -1.0, -13.0 and -15.0 ppm) NMR chemical shifts were imperative to confirm the byproducts, in which this stability study was also important to select some products for pharmacological screening. The phosphorochalcogenoates were screened in vitro and ex vivo tests for the antioxidant potential and free radical scavenging activity, as well as to investigation toxicity in mice through of the plasma levels of markers of renal and hepatic damage. The pharmacological screening of phosphorochalcogenoates indicated that compounds have antioxidant propriety in different assays and not changes plasma levels of markers of renal and hepatic damage, with excision of 3g compound that increased plasma creatinine levels and decreased plasma urea levels when compared to control group in the blood mice. Thus, these compounds can be promising synthetic antioxidants that provide protection against oxidative diseases.

Abstract
We developed a general and sustainable approach for the regioselective deoxygenative chalcogenation of 7-azindole N-oxides; the combination of an internal oxidant and a green solvent has been used successfully for the synthesis of mono- and dichalcogenyl 7-azaindoles which are of pharmaceutical interest. The regioselectivity is tunable by the variation of the reaction conditions. I2/PEG was established as an efficient and reusable catalytic system for C-H chalcogenation. This developed methodology has great potential for practical utility, with a broad substrate scope, green reaction conditions, and operational simplicity.

Abstract
A novel and sustainable procedure was developed for the synthesis of 3-selenylindoles employing diorganyl diselenides and indoles or electron-rich arenes as starting materials. Visible blue light was used to promote the reaction without employing transition metal complexes or organic photocatalysts as sensitizers. Additives such as strong oxidants or bases were not required. Moreover, ethanol was employed as a benign solvent under mild reaction conditions. Through this easy and eco-friendly approach, several 3-selenylindoles and a number of asymmetric diarylselenides were obtained in good to excellent isolated yields. A novel and sustainable procedure for the synthesis of 3-selenylindoles employing diorganyl diselenides and indoles or electron-rich arenes and promoted by visible light was developed.![]()
