Abstract
A novel and efficient method for the intermolecular hydroxysulfonylation of vinylarenes using sodium sulfinates has been achieved through aerobic copper catalysis. This transformation proceeded smoothly with green air as the terminal oxidant in the presence of Cu (I)/1,10-phenanthroline as an efficient catalytic system, leading to an array of β-hydroxysulfones in moderate to high yields. The significant advantages of this protocol are the mild reaction conditions, readily available starting materials, good functional-group compatibility, synthetic convenience, and practicability. Preliminary mechanistic investigation suggested that the catalytic process should undergo a cascade of radical events involving the initial generation of sulfonyl radical followed by sulfonyl radical addition across alkenes and subsequent cross-coupling with air.

Abstract
An efficient and practical SO2 insertion protocol of NH-sulfoximines with aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates and DABSO toward N-sulfonyl sulfoximines has been developed under mildly basic conditions. This transformation features easy operation, readily available substrates, and mild conditions. A tentative mechanism is proposed, which indicates that the aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates would be radical donors under standard reaction conditions. The aryl radical produced in situ from diazonium salts would be trapped by SO2 to generate an arylsulfonyl radical and then undergo further transformation to generate the final N-sulfonyl sulfoximines.

Abstract
A nickel-catalyzed three-component tandem radical cyclization reaction of aryl bromides with 1,3-enynes and aryl boric acids to construct γ-lactam-substituted allene derivatives has been described. This protocol provides lactam alkyl radicals through the free radical cyclization process, which can be effectively used to participate in the subsequent multicomponent coupling reaction so that 1,3-enynes could directly convert into corresponding poly-substituted allene compounds. In addition, this efficient method enjoys a broad substrate scope and provides a series of 1,5-difunctionalized allenes in a one-pot reaction.

Abstract
The direct difunctionalization of inexpensive and widely available alkenes has been recognized as a strong and straightforward tool for the rapid fabrication of complex molecules and pharmaceutical targets by introducing two different functional groups on adjacent carbon atoms of common alkene moieties in a single operation. This synthetic strategy avoids the purification and isolation of the intermediates and thus makes synthetic schemes shorter, simpler and cleaner. In this family of reactions, the hydroxysulfonylation of alkenes has emerged as an increasingly promising strategy for the synthesis of β-hydroxysulfones, which are found in many biologically important molecules and widespread applications in organic synthesis. The objective of this review is to illustrate the advancements in the field of hydroxysulfonylation of alkenes with special emphasis on the mechanistic details of the reaction pathways. The direct difunctionalization of alkenes recognized as a straightforward tool for the rapid fabrication of complex molecules and pharmaceutical targets by introducing two different functional groups on adjacent carbon atoms of common alkene moieties.![]()

Abstract
A new class of cationic polymers containing tertiary amine, thioether, and hydroxyl groups are prepared via a catalyst-free, multicomponent polymerization method using dithiol, formaldehyde, and di-sec-amine with a ratio of 1:2:1, to access a library of water-soluble polymers with well-defined structures and suitable molecular weights (Mw ranging from 5000 to 8000 Da) in high yields (up to 90%). Such polycations are demonstrated to be promising nonviral gene delivery vectors with high transfection efficiency (up to 3.5-fold of PEI25k) and low toxicity with multiple functionalities: 1) efficient gene condensation by tertiary amine groups; 2) reactive oxygen species scavenging by thioether groups; and 3) positive charge shielding by hydroxyl groups. Both the thioether and hydroxyl groups are contributed to reduce the cytotoxicity of the polycations by tuning the oxidative stress and preventing the undesired serum binding. The optimized polycations can achieve high transfection efficiency under the serum conditions, indicating the great potential as a nonviral gene delivery vector candidate for clinical application.

Abstract
Recently, sulfonylation reactions using potassium/sodium metabisulfite as the sulfur dioxide surrogate have been developed rapidly. In most cases, the transformations go through radical processes with the insertion of sulfur dioxide under mild conditions. Additionally, transition metal catalysis is applied in the reactions for the synthesis of sulfonyl-containing compounds. Among the approaches, photoinduced conversions under visible light or ultraviolet irradiation are also involved. In this updated report, the insertion of sulfur dioxide from potassium metabisulfite or sodium metabisulfite is summarized.

Abstract
Metal-free insertion of sulfur dioxide with aryl iodides and 3-azido-2-methylbut-3-en-2-ol under ultraviolet irradiation at room temperature is achieved, giving rise to 2-(arylsulfonyl)acetonitriles in moderate to good yields. Alkyl iodide is also workable under these conditions. This transformation proceeds smoothly under mild conditions with a broad substrate scope. Various functional groups are compatible including amino, ester, halo, and trifluoromethyl groups. No metal catalyst or additive is needed during the reaction process. Mechanistic studies show that under ultraviolet irradiation, an aryl radical is generated in situ from aryl iodide, which undergoes subsequent sulfonylation via the insertion of sulfur dioxide leading to arylsulfonyl radical intermediates. Then the arylsulfonyl radical reacts with 3-azido-2-methylbut-3-en-2-ol giving rise to the corresponding 2-(arylsulfonyl)acetonitrile.

Abstract
A convenient and straightforward three-component transformation of quinoline N-oxides, sodium metabisulfite and aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates has been developed, providing the target products in moderate to good yields. Compared with previous studies, the present methodology avoids the use of transition-metal catalysts and excess oxidants, providing a simple and practical alternative approach for the construction of 2-sulfonylquinolines. Control experiments indicate that a dual radical coupling process is responsible for this reaction.

Abstract
Katritzky salts are used as the alkyl radical precursors with the insertion of sulfur dioxide under photoredox catalysis. This transformation first enables direct generation of various alkylsulfonyl radicals by photoinduced single electron reduction, leading to diverse dialkyl sulfones in good to excellent yields. A radical pathway is proposed under visible-light induced conditions with the insertion of sulfur dioxide.

Abstract
In this work, a selective synthetic strategy towards 1-azaspiro[4.5]deca-3,6,9-trien-8-ones from N-tosyl-N-(prop-2-yn-1-yl)aniline is developed. The transformation proceeds smoothly in a mixed solvent including acetonitrile and water when ZnBr2 and Oxone are employed. Mechanism studies show that the reaction proceeds in a regioselective manner via a radical ipso-cyclization pathway.

Abstract
A multicomponent sulfonylation of O-acyl oximes via iminyl radicals with the insertion of sulfur dioxide under photoredox catalysis is achieved. This multicomponent reaction of O-acyl oximes, potassium metabisulfite, alkenes, and nucleophiles under visible-light irradiation is efficient, giving rise to a range of sulfones in moderate to good yields. A broad reaction scope is presented with good functional group compatibility.
