Synthesis of bisnitroepoxides and their applications in the synthesis of bis(thiazolidine-2-thiones), bis(dithiocarbamates), bis(xanthates) and bis(thiazoles)

Novel bis(nitroepoxides) were prepared based on terephthaldehyde and isophthaladehyde and their reactions with diversities of nucleophiles such as primary and secondary amine-based dithiocarbamic acids, xanthates, and ammonia-based dithiocarbmamates were investigated for the synthesis of bis(thiazolidine-2-thiones), bis(dithiocarbamates), bis(xanthates) and bis(thiazoles), respectively. It provides simple access to complex molecules in one step in high to excellent yields.

Synthetic exploration of electrophilic xanthylation via powerful N-xanthylphthalimides

Organic xanthates are broadly applied as synthetic intermediates and bioactive molecules in synthetic chemistry. Electrophilic xanthylation represents a promising approach but has rarely been explored mainly due to the lack of powerful electrophilic reagents. Herein, synthetic exploration of electrophilic xanthylation via powerful N-xanthylphthalimides was investigated. This strategy might provide a new avenue to less-concerned but meaningful electrophilic xanthylation in organic synthesis. With the help of these powerful reagents, electrophilic xanthylation of a wide range of substrates including aryl/alkenyl boronic acids, β-keto esters, 2-oxindole, and alkyl amines, as well as previously inaccessible phenols (first report) was achieved under mild reaction conditions. Notably, this simple electrophilic xanthylation of alkyl amine substrates will occur in the desulfuration reaction, consistent with the previously reported methods. Similarly, xanthamide and thioxanthate groups could also be transformed into desired nucleophiles via this electrophilic reagent strategy. The broad substrate scope, excellent functional group compatibility and late-stage functionalization of bioactive or functional molecules made them very attractive as general reagents which will allow rapid incorporation of SC(S)R (R = OEt, Oalkyl, NEt2 and SEt) into the target molecules.

Catalyst free one pot three components synthesis of 2-iminothiazoles from nitroepoxides and thiourea

Nitroepoxides were introduced as efficient substrates for the one-pot three-component synthesis of 2-iminothiazoles under catalyst-free conditions. Reaction of amines, isothiocyanates, and nitroepoxides in THF at 10-15 °C afforded corresponding 2-iminothiazoles in high to excellent yields. The reaction proceeds via the in situ formation of thiourea from an amine and an isothiocyanate, followed by nitroepoxide ring opening with the sulfur of thiourea, cyclization reaction, and dehydration cascade. The structures of products were confirmed by IR, NMR, HRMS analyses and X-ray crystallography.

Recent advances in the synthesis and applications of β-keto sulfones: new prospects for the synthesis of β-keto thiosulfones

This review mainly focuses on recent developments in the preparation of β-keto sulfones and their extensive synthetic applications. New prospects for the synthesis of β-keto thiosulfones have also been highlighted. Over the last decade, there has been exponential growth in the direct construction of β-keto sulfones using a wide variety of keto and sulfonyl precursors. Of note, the most promising photoredox transformations and electrochemical synthesis methods of β-keto sulfones are also presented. Moreover, β-keto sulfones are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis due to their three essential functional groups: sulfonyl, carbonyl, and active methylene moieties. The convenient preparation of β-keto sulfones allows the synthesis of many valuable carbocyclic and heterocyclic compounds, and the effortless removal of the sulfonyl moiety via transformations is supported. The chemistry of β-keto sulfones (2013 to present) can be divided into several sections based on the sulfonyl surrogates, and ubiquitous synthetic strategies were systematically outlined.

Catalyst-Free Synthesis of Benzofuran Derivatives from Cascade Reactions between Nitroepoxides and Salicylaldehydes

Different benzofuran derivatives are synthesized via a catalyst-free reaction between nitroepoxides and salicylaldehydes. In the employed methodology, K₂CO₃ and DMF have been used at 110 °C, and the reactions were completed after 12 h in 33-84% yields. The highest yields were obtained using 3-nitrosalicylaldehyde. Finally, a plausible mechanism was proposed for the reaction, and some evidence was provided for this mechanism such as the detection of released acetate anion (using FTIR) and isolation and structure determination of the critical intermediate.
