Abstract
The benzocycloheptene core is structurally important motif that appears within a wide array of natural products, and benzocycloheptene has recently been demonstrated to undergo [3+2] photo-sensitized cycloaddition reactions. Thus, there is a need for efficient synthetic protocols to access this motif. Herein, we provide efficient strategies to achieve highly functionalized benzocycloheptene derivatives starting from commercially available 1-benzosuberone and 1-tetralone. We anticipate that these benzocycloheptene compounds will serve as excellent precursors for a diverse array of chemical reactions.

Abstract
A (3 + 2) annulation of allenyl- and, after rapid isomerization, propargylsilanes with internal 1-aryl-1-alkynes to form 4-methylenecyclopentenes is reported. The reaction is initiated by a silylium ion, and the catalytic cycle is subsequently maintained by the self-regeneration of the silylium-ion promoter. Unlike the well-established Danheiser annulation, where the allenylsilane serves as a three-carbon synthon, the present transformation engages the allenylsilane as a two-carbon synthon. Experimental observations and DFT calculations unveil a reaction cascade involving various β-silicon-stabilized carbocations, where a pentadienyl-to-allyl cation electrocyclization is the key step.

Abstract
A Brønsted acid catalyzed cyclization of o-alkenyl-o'-alkynylbiaryls for the synthesis of biologically relevant dibenzo-fused medium-sized rings has been developed. The outcome of the cyclization is determined by the nature of the substituent at the alkyne, with arenes favoring seven-membered rings and alkyl substituents producing eight-membered rings. These reactions proceed via a vinyl cation, which is captured by water and, notably, by C-nucleophiles, such as electron-rich (hetero)arenes.

Abstract
We present a transition metal-free approach to 2-N-substituted indenones, cyclopentenones, and 4-carbonyl oxazoles, based on the reaction of 5-acylated N-fluoroalkyl substituted 1,2,3-triazoles (prepared by a three-component click reaction of copper acetylides, fluoroalkyl azides, and acyl chlorides) with Lewis acids aluminium trichloride or boron trifluoride etherate, proceeding via the generation and cyclization of vinyl cations.

Abstract
This study addresses the challenges associated with vinyl cation generation, a process that traditionally requires quite specific counterions. Described herein is a novel intramolecular vinylation of arenes catalyzed by aluminum(III) chloride, utilizing practical conditions and readily available vinyl triflates derived from 2-aceto-3-arylpropionates. Comprehensive experimental data support diverse carbocycle synthesis, exemplified by indenes and higher analogues. Control experiments verify the applicability of the vinylation protocol, and synthetic applications showcase a potent tubulin polymerization inhibitor with anticancer properties. Density functional theory computations reveal a Lewis-acid-driven mechanism involving triflate moiety abstraction to generate a reactive vinyl cation.

Abstract
A gold-catalyzed cascade cyclization of naphthalene-tethered allenynes gave strained fused phenanthrene derivatives. The reaction proceeds through the nucleophilic reaction of an alkyne with the activated allene to generate a vinyl cation intermediate, followed by arylation with a tethered naphthalene ring to form the 4H-cyclopenta[def]phenanthrene (CPP) scaffold. When using aryl-substituted substrates on the alkyne terminus, the gold-catalyzed reaction produced dibenzofluorene derivatives along with the CPP derivatives. Selective formation of CPP and dibenzofluorene derivatives depending on the reaction conditions is also presented.

Abstract
A catalytic silylium-ion-promoted intramolecular alkyne carbosilylation reaction is reported. The ring closure is initiated by electrophilic activation of the C-C triple bond by a silylium ion, and the catalytic cycle is then maintained by the protodesilylation of a stoichiometrically added allylsilane reagent. Exclusive 7-endo-dig selectivity is seen, leading to a series of silylated benzocycloheptene derivatives with a fully substituted vinylsilane. Control experiments showed that the catalytically active silylium ion can also be regenerated by protodesilylation of the vinylsilane product.
