Abstract
Ipomoea batatas (L.) Lam. (I. batatas) is highly regarded by consumers and researchers in medicine and food due to their high yield and rich nutritional value. Due to the difficulty in applying starch polysaccharides from I. batatas in drug development, non-starch polysaccharides with rich pharmacological activity have become a research hotspot in recent years. Non-starch I. batatas polysaccharide has been proven to contain a variety of pharmacological activities, including immune regulation, improvement of intestinal microbiota, gastric protection, liver protection, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-glycosylation, and anti-diabetes. At the same time, in addition to traditional extraction methods, researchers have also utilized various new extraction methods such as isoelectric point precipitation, hot reflux extraction, and ultra-high pressure extraction to obtain non-starch I. batatas polysaccharides with various conformational features, including cyclic and chain structures. Its rich pharmacological activities and diverse chemical structures provide clear guidance for elucidating of its structure-activity relationships and developing products in fields such as medicine and food. Based on this, this article reviews the research progress on the extraction and purification methods, structural characteristics, pharmacological activities, structure-activity relationships, and applications of non-starch I. batatas polysaccharides in recent years, providing theoretical guidance for future research on non-starch I. batatas polysaccharides.

Abstract
Bangia fusco-purpurea polysaccharide (UBFP) with ultra-high pressure assisted extraction has good in vitro hypolipidemic activity. To be explored as a natural hypolipidemic agent, the alleviation effect of UBFP on in vivo dyslipidemia in high-fat diet (HFD) induced mice was further investigated. Compared with native polysaccharide (BFP), UBFP was better to reduce weight gain, fat accumulation, serum and hepatic lipid abnormalities for HFD induced mice. This might be caused by the factor that UBFP was more effective to improve the diversity and structure of gut microbiota especially with SCFAs-producing bacteria (e.g., Allprevotella and Akkermansia) increased. Moreover, UBFP could up-regulate tryptophan, 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, leptin and N-arachidonic acid glutamate levels, and exhibited significant differential enrichment in the pathways of lysine biosynthesis, arginine biosynthesis, and tryptophan metabolism. In addition, UBFP could regulate energy metabolism and enhance fatty acid oxidation by inhibiting PPARγ protein expression and activating AMPK and ACC signaling pathways. Overall, with ultra-high pressure assisted extraction, UBFP possessed better function of regulating lipid homeostasis, which resulted from the altered structure of polysaccharides, improved intestinal flora and metabolites. The findings can lay the theoretical foundation for the design and development of desirable polysaccharides on regulating lipid homeostasis through ultra-high pressure modification.

Abstract
The great potential of polysaccharides in immunological regulation has recently been highlighted in pharmacological and clinical studies. Polysaccharides can trigger immunostimulatory responses through molecular identification, intra- and intercellular communication via direct or indirect interactions with the immune system. Various immunostimulatory polysaccharides or their derivative compounds interacts at cellular level to boost the immune system, including arabinogalactans, fucoidans, mannans, xylans, galactans, hyaluronans, fructans, pectin and arabinogalactans, etc. These natural polysaccharides are derived from various plants, animals and microbes. A unique structural diversity has been identified in polysaccharides, while monosaccharides and glucosidic bonds mainly confer diverse biological activities. These natural polysaccharides improve antioxidant capacity, reduce the production of pro-inflammatory mediators, strengthen the intestinal barrier, influence the composition of intestinal microbial populations and promote the synthesis of short-chain fatty acids. These natural polysaccharides are also known to reduce excessive inflammatory responses. It is crucial to develop polysaccharide-based immunomodulators that could be used to prevent or treat certain diseases. This review highlights the structural features, immunomodulatory properties, underlying immunomodulatory mechanisms of naturally occurring polysaccharides, and activities related to immune effects by elucidating a complex relationship between polysaccharides and immunity. In addition, the future of these molecules as potential immunomodulatory components that could transform pharmaceutical applications at clinical level will also be highlighted.

Abstract
The gut microbiota plays a central role in maintaining human health and has been linked to many gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis (UC). Agaricus bisporus is a famous edible mushroom, and Agaricus bisporus polysaccharides (ABPs) and the two purified fractions (ABP-1 and ABP-2) were demonstrated to exhibit immunomodulatory activity in our previous study. Herein, we further found that ABPs, ABP-1, and ABP-2 possessed therapeutic effects against dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. ABPs, ABP-1, and ABP-2 could relieve body weight loss, colon atrophy, and histological injury, increase tight junction proteins, restore gut-barrier function, and inhibit inflammation. ABP-2 with a lower molecular weight (1.76 × 104 Da) showed a superior therapeutic effect than ABP-1 with a higher molecular weight (8.86 × 106 Da). Furthermore, the effects of ABP-1 and ABP-2 were microbiota-dependent, which worked by inducing Norank_f__Muribaculaceae and Akkermansia and inhibiting Escherichia-Shigella and Proteus. In addition, untargeted fecal metabolomic analysis revealed distinct modulation patterns of ABP-1 and ABP-2. ABP-1 mainly enriched steroid hormone biosynthesis, while ABP-2 significantly enriched bile secretion and tryptophan metabolism. In summary, ABPs, especially low-molecular-weight fraction, represent novel prebiotics for treatment of inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases.

Abstract
Introduction This study aimed to investigated the effects of 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA) on the growth performance, intestinal barrier, inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and gut microbiota of chickens challenged with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Methods A total of 240 one-day-old chickens were randomly assigned to five treatment groups: (1) control group (basal diet + saline); (2) LPS group (basal diet + LPS); (3) Chlortetracycline (CTC) group (basal diet containing 75 mg/kg CTC + LPS); (4) 0.1% 10-HDA group (basal diet containing 1 g/kg 10-HDA + LPS); and (5) 0.5% 10-HDA group (basal diet containing 5 g/kg 10-HDA + LPS). All chickens were injected intraperitoneally with 0.5 mg/kg body weight of either LPS or saline at 17, 19, and 21 days of age. Results The results showed that dietary 10-HDA supplementation attenuated the loss in growth performance caused by the LPS challenge (p < 0.05). 10-HDA effectively alleviated LPS-induced intestinal mucosal injury, as evidenced by reduced bleeding, decreased serum diamine oxidase levels (p < 0.05), and increased villus/crypt ratios of the jejunum and ileum (p < 0.05). Dietary treatment with 0.1% 10-HDA reduced the concentrations of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6; p < 0.05), and increased immunoglobulin (IgA, IgG) and antioxidant enzyme levels (CAT, GSH-px, T-SOD) in the serum of LPS-challenged chickens (p < 0.05). These effects were similar to those observed in the CTC group. Moreover, 0.1% 10-HDA treatment reversed the LPS-induced variations in the mRNA expression of genes related to inflammation, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal tight junctions (p < 0.05). 16S rRNA analysis revealed that 10-HDA supplementation increased the relative abundance of Faecalibacterium and Clostridia_UCG-014 (p < 0.05). Additionally, it decreased the abundance of Clostridia_vadinBB60_group, Eubacterium_nodatum_group, and UC5-1-2E3 (p < 0.05). These changes were correlated with reduced inflammation and improved antioxidant capacity in the LPS-challenged chickens. Conclusion Collectively, dietary 10-HDA supplementation alleviated LPS-induced intestinal mucosal injury and the loss of growth performance through anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and gut microbiota modulation activities in chickens. Moreover, 0.1% 10-HDA supplementation had comparable or even better protection for LPS-challenged chickens than supplementation with antibiotics or 0.5% 10-HDA. 10-HDA has the potential to be used as an alternative to antibiotics in protecting the intestinal health and improving the performance of poultry.

Abstract
Introduction Peppermint contains substantial bioactive ingredients belonging to the phytoestrogens, and its effects on the production of late-laying hens deserve more attention. This study evaluated the effects of dietary peppermint extract (PE) supplementation on egg production and quality, yolk fatty acid composition, antioxidant capacity, and cecal microbiota in late-phase laying hens. Method PE powder was identified by UPLC-MS/MS analysis. Two hundred and sixteen laying hens (60 weeks old) were randomly assigned to four treatments, each for 28 days: (i) basal diet (control group, CON); (ii) basal diet + 0.1% PE; (iii) basal diet + 0.2% PE; and (iv) basal diet + 0.4% PE. Egg, serum, and cecal samples were collected for analysis. Results Dietary PE supplementation increased the laying rate, serum triglyceride, immunoglobulin G, and total antioxidant capacity, while 0.2 and 0.4% PE supplementation increased eggshell thickness, serum total protein level, and superoxide dismutase activity of laying hens compared with the CON group (P < 0.05). PE addition in diets increased the C14:0, C18:3n3, C18:3n6, C23:0, C24:0, and C24:1n9 contents in the yolk. In addition, the egg yolk saturated fatty acid content was higher (P < 0.05) in the 0.2 and 0.4% PE groups compared with the CON and 0.1% PE groups. The microbiota analysis revealed that the cecal phylum Proteobacteria was decreased (P < 0.05) in the PE-supplemented groups. A total of 0.4% PE supplementation increased the cecal richness of gram-positive bacteria and decreased the richness of gram-negative and potentially pathogenic bacteria compared with the 0.1% PE group (P < 0.05). Microbial function prediction analysis showed that the cecal microbiota of the PE group was mainly enriched by fatty acid degradation, fatty acid metabolism, amino sugar metabolism, nucleotide sugar metabolism, and other pathways. Regression analysis suggested that 0.28-0.36% PE supplementation was the optimal level for improving egg production and quality, antioxidant capacity, and yolk fatty acid in late-phase laying hens. Discussion Dietary PE supplementation improved egg production and quality (including yolk fatty acid composition) by increasing serum IgG and antioxidant capacity and modulating the intestinal microbiota in late-phase laying hens.

Abstract
As an important food crop, corn has an important impact on people's lives. The processing of corn produces many by-products, such as corn gluten meal, corn husk, and corn steep liquor, which are rich in protein, oil, carbohydrates, and other nutrients, all of which are inexpensive. Their accumulation in large quantities during the production process not only results in a burden on the environment but also the loss of potentially valuable food materials that can be processed. In fact, the by-products of corn processing have been partially used in functional foods, nutrients, feed, and other industries. There is no doubt that the secondary utilization of these by-products can not only solve the problem of waste pollution caused by them, but also produce high value-added products and improve the economic benefits of corn. This paper describes in detail the processing and higher-value utilization of the five main by-products: corn gluten meal, corn husks, corn steep liquor, corn germ, and fuel ethanol by-product. The utilization status of corn processing by-products was discussed roundly, and the development trend of corn processing by-products in China and other countries was analyzed, which provided the reference for the development of the corn deep processing industry.
